WotLK: Achievements and Pet Info
Today has been very odd for me, so I haven’t been as fast on the new news as normal. But thanks to MMO Champion and WoW Insider I just noticed that Blizzard has put up a Preview of the Player Achievements in Wrath of the Lich King. It looks a bit like the Deed system in LOTRO, but since I’m pretty fond of that system I’m glad to see it coming to WoW.
I’ve also been getting a lot of e-mail about what appears to be Blizzard posts leaked from the alpha forums. I’m not comfortable with the provenance of this info, so I’ll send you over to read WoW Insider’s post on the matter.
Suffice it to say that we already suspected that they’d be doing away with loyalty, since the pet talent trees don’t look like they’d require the concept. And it makes sense that they would also use this opportunity to adjust the pain of pet leveling as well.

“Update: New pets will only need to gain a maximum of five levels, implying that if you’re level 80 and tame a level 17, it instantly becomes level 75 [thanks, Wabbajack].”

Wow. I can think of a few low level pets I’d tame if that were true.
With the rumours of alpha being closed down and beta being not too far away, hopefully Mania will have some sources that can feed her solid info once the NDA is lifted ;)
Thanks for the heads up, Mania!
I think this is awesome news. I can’t wait to see more about the Achievements and, although I’d heard about it before, it’s great to see some in-game shots. One is even of the “barber shop” which is the first related picture I’ve seen of that. I’m really looking forward to unlocking not just titles but also vanity pets and tabards.
Not to mention… if those hunter changes stick it’ll be wonderful! I’ve always wanted more pet diversity and the change mentioned by Chris will be fabulous. :D
Huzzah, beta patch notes and the client download are up!

Mania, you were right about why I wasn’t able to log on to the 2.4.3 PTR - if you have any specific questions after reading the patch notes send them to me and I’ll see if I can find answers for you over the weekend :)
And for anyone wondering if the patch notes on WoWInsider are legit or not, the beta forums now appear to be publicly viewable:

Nimizar: Lucky devil! And thanks for the link. :>
Hey, I don’t suppose you’d be willing to use your contacts to get me a beta key? I can … hmm … well, I can probably get you a beta key for the next EQII or LOTRO beta, if you’re interested. Or, you know, cash or first-borns or what-have-you. *grin*
