My husband and I are taking a little mini-vacation to see more of Southern California before we move away in about six weeks. We’re planning to ride the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway and then visit the Salton Sea. We’ll only be gone overnight, but it means that I won’t be answering e-mail or posted comments until Thursday, probably. I have, however, scheduled some content to post to fill the void. *grin* Just wanted to warn you!

I have jury duty tomorrow. Because I chose to delay my service for several months, I can no longer just call in the night before to see if they need me. Instead, I have to drive up there tomorrow and sit in the courthouse all day. (But hopefully just for one day!) I need to be there at 7:45 am, so I probably need to get up around 6:30 am. Now, I’ve been working more or less second shift hours for the past two months, so my normal wake-up time has been around noon. (For the record, I sometimes cheat on this blog — I often post before I go to bed early in the morning, or schedule posts to go up while I’m asleep).
So I plan on being very unhappy for most of tomorrow. But at least I have Thursday to recover before BlizzCon starts! (Not that I’m going, but I plan on being glued to the monitor waiting for snippets of news.) Anyway, I’ll schedule one of the Kaet posts for after midnight, but I probably won’t be around much tomorrow.

So Comic-Con was a bust. I somehow thought that since we’d bought tickets ahead of time, we’d be able to, you know, get in. But there was a two hour line when we got there, and after we wandered around downtime for a bit and had some lunch, it had gotten longer. *sigh*
We weren’t going to wait that long in the sun. My husband’s bald head just got over being badly sunburned and I have a bad tendency of passing out when I overheat.
So we came home instead. But I used the rest of my day wisely – getting a big update for Petopia ready to go live. So that was something. :>

I’m off to Comic-Con today. I missed it last year and we theoretically won’t be in the area next year, so my husband and I made it a priority to go this year. I’m not a huge comics person, but I wouldn’t mind meeting Neil Gaiman (although I think he’s talking tomorrow, not today) or the Penny-Arcade folks, or a handful of others.
Anyway, I’ll catch up with the comments and e-mail when I get home this evening.

Every year about this time I suddenly have this intense desire to go to BlizzCon. A week ago I wasn’t at all interested, and now suddenly I am. Unfortunately, tickets are sold out so it seems fairly unlikely that I’ll be able to attend. And it’s a particular pity this year since I’m only a two-hour drive away and I don’t have a full-time job to interfere.
On the other hand, if I were at BlizzCon it would be difficult to keep up with all the news coming out of BlizzCon. Ironic, but true. From here I can more easily filter through all the reports to find out what’s going to affect my beloved hunter pets. And to be fair, I did expect to have relocated to Florida by now. (In fact, since we haven’t moved yet we’ve caused some trouble for ourselves — my husband and I are blowing our yearly vacation on a trip to DragonCon in Atlanta later this year, but now instead of being a long but feasible drive away, it’s a whole continent (and an expensive flight) away.)
But that’s all rationalization. The fact is that I suddenly really want to go to BlizzCon — to be immersed in the excited, geeky crowds; to be surrounded by people who understand my stupid Ghost Saber jokes. *sigh* If I were smarter I would have foreseen this and bought tickets back when I didn’t want them. Ah, well. Maybe by next year we’ll have moved back out this way and I can go then.

Never, ever, under any circumstances whatsoever, watch the movie “Future War“. You have been warned.

It’s a good week for random lists, what with the holiday and all. And since I just had to re-install all of the MMO games that I play (which took many, many, many hours, let me tell you), I figured I would list them here for your amusement and edification.
- World of Warcraft (of course!)
- Asheron’s Call: Still the best game on the market after WoW, to my way of thinking. AC1 enjoys many of the features of WoW, including a very solo-friendly experience and relatively low system requirements. But it has a feel all its own. Nothing compares to the sensation you get when you enter an Olthoi dungeon – the hot purple darkness filled with the quiet chittering of hundreds of Olthoi; the moment when they notice your presence and all turn and run at you, an angry black tide of acid-dripping mandibles; the sheer joy of laying waste, killing Olthoi after Olthoi in a seemingly endless influx of terrifying insects. And then looting all the corpses, of course. *grin*

Saturday morning, the one and only hard drive on my home computer went kaplooey. I spent all of Saturday securing a new drive and fighting to install an OS on it and all of Sunday trying to get set back up and recover what I could from the old broken drive. In the end I was able to save most of what I care about, including all my in-development files for this blog, Petopia, and my other hunter pet projects. The only really important thing I lost was my personal e-mail. (All the e-mail for this blog and Petopia I route through GMail, so it’s all safe.) Still, that was something like three years of messages from family, friends, and business contacts so I am … reeling a bit. And I still have some recovery left — I need to install World of Warcraft and all the other massively-multiplayer online role-playing games that I play, for instance, plus all the smaller utilities (like the WoW Model Viewer and my HTML editing tools). Anyway, if you don’t do normal back-ups of your important stuff — well, you might want to take this opportunity and do one now. *grin*

Egad! Time just flies when you’re working hard! I had no idea it had been so long since my last post. Things are beginning to lighten up a little for us, although I’m unfortunately not making any headway on getting us moved. Still, I ought to have time to post some info here that’s come in over the past week, maybe respond to some of the new comments, and I’ll also see if I can get an update done on Petopia. We’ll see how the week goes. :>
