Warcraft Mounts: Not Quite Dead

I’ve just posted a long-delayed update to Warcraft Mounts. A huge, huge thanks to everyone who wrote to ask me if there was a problem and what you could do to help. I really appreciate your thoughts and I’m sorry I couldn’t respond to all of you.

So, what was updated tonight?

  1. You should be able to make goblin and worgen characters. (I could have sworn I did that before, but I only added them in one of the two places they need to be.)
  2. I added the Patch 4.2 mounts.
  3. The Cataclysm page now has a listing for mounts added in Patch 4.2 and Patch 4.3, although the Patch 4.3 mounts aren’t up yet.
  4. You can now search for only mounts that fly or swim, and the search results tell you at a glance what the mount can do.
  5. I fixed the image of the poor Winged Guardian but I still can’t get a decent pic of the Flameward Hippogryph.
  6. I went through all 300+ mounts in the database and updated costs, speeds, and methods of obtaining the mounts. (This was the biggie!)

Some of this work required rewriting bits of the database. Plus I am absolutely certain that I made some mistakes with the corrections. So please, please let me know about anything that looks wonky or information I got wrong.

I have a list of other things I need to do soon as well:

  1. Add the Patch 4.3 mounts. These should be up tonight.
  2. Add something about the 310% flight speed – or at least some way to handle the scaling of speeds more elegantly. Hmm …
  3. Add the data for faction switch conversions. First step is getting it displayed; second step is doing the conversion automatically for site accounts.
  4. Noting which mounts can be in the Satchel of Exotic Mysteries and putting a list of those somewhere useful.

There’s more, of course – there is always more! – but I think those are the immediate tasks.

Thank you all for being so patient with me!

Oooh, I’d definitely be interested in knowing which mounts are available in the Satchels. I’ve got a rough idea, but it would good to know more concretely.

Thank you for all of your hard work!

Hey Mania! Great to finally see you back. wb ^_^ I would like to make one teeny tiny note on the website though, Tyreal’s Charger you put down as a ground mount. It is in fact, according to MMO champ and Boub’s great video, a flying mount. Those ethereal looking drapey things are actually wings. ^_~ Hope to see all the new updates soon. Keep up the great work.

    Thanks for updating!! :D
Typo: Flame Talon of Alysrazor –> Flametalon of Alysrazor

I think you should update the “Updated on May 12, 2011
for Patch 4.1.” section to show you’re still updating the site.

    Again, thanks :)

Is it possible to somehow list which mounts are profession specific? Or alternately, which mounts are not available to all toons, or all toons of either Alliance/Horde?
In specific, thinking of mounts like Tarecosa Rest, which will only go to the person who gets the Legendary, but it is only certain toons that can even do this.
Other than this request, all I can say, is that this is a very good resource, and nice job!

I’d just like to start off by saying, I LOVE your site. I am a mount hunter, and I don’t think I would be where I am today if I didn’t have this site to help me out, lol.

    A few mounts your missing:
There’s the Chromatic dragon. I’m not entirely sure where it drops from, and I’m still looking for it =’( . Perhaps on here someone will know.

Then there’s also Experiment 12-B which I know drops from Ultraxion (http://www.wowpedia.org/Ultraxion#Ultraxion.27s_drops)
    I’m pretty sure that’s all that’s missing, though…

One of the items so far ‘confirmed’ for MoP is achievements that require multiple characters to accomplish. Another possible is Mounts that spread across an account.

I think either of these possibilities could benefit from general mounts (Rep grinds, rare drops) that are available to both factions being moved from the Alliance and Horde pages to their own page.

I’ve tried logging in to manage my collection on the site but couldn’t. I tried to reset my password several times but the one it gives me to login gets rejected every time.

Not sure if you’re still reading this, but they added a new mount for the Love is in the Air holiday; the Swift Lovebird (a pink tallstider, sold by the goblins running the even for 270 love tokens).

  9. Peterpaul

A third vote for the Swift Lovebird. Couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t get my warcraftmounts.com count to match until I figured out that it wasn’t there! Keep up the great work!

  10. Krovikan

New mounts through Resurrection Spell. Spectral Gryphon for Alliance and Spectral Wyvern / Wind Rider for Horde.
