I decided when Cataclysm launched that leveling Mania to 85 would be my first priority. Today I finished that goal. I didn’t push myself, but I did happen to have more time to play than usual. Plus, the levels in Cataclysm go pretty quickly.
So what do I get for hitting level 85? Not a whole lot – except the ability to tame these fine unusual beasts.
(I’m only hitting the ones with 85-only looks. If you are just looking for a level 85 in general, check out this list of level 85 pets. You can always use the Advanced Search on Petopia to find all pets of a certain level, which is useful as the database gets updated.)
Spirit Beasts
There are two level 85 spirit beasts in Cataclysm, Karoma the spectral wolf and Ghostcrawler the spectral crab. You can find Karoma in the Twilight Highlands while Ghostcrawler hangs out in Vashj’ir.
Cats
Level 85 opens up the possibility of taming two new cat looks as well. Sambas is the impressively maned lion who matches the Alliance guild mount. Sambas roams the Twilight Highlands.
You might also tame one of two ‘hunched tigers‘ – an orange and black cat with the same posture and glowing eyes as the Cursed Offspring of Har’koa in Zul’Drak. Tigers can be found in Neferset City in Uldum while Tamed Tol’vir Prowlers are in the Lost City of the Tol’vir instance.
Shale Spider + Beetle
The final two looks that can only be tamed at level 85 are a purply-red scarab, the Venomous Skitterer from the Halls of Origination, and Jadefang the rare green shale spider from Deepholm.
Frankly, Jadefang is the only reason I ever want to set foot in Deepholm again. But man do I love the look of that little guy. (That’s him up top.)
I wish you luck on getting Jadefang, I love the green look on the shale spiders but I’m to lazy to hunt a rare to get it, I settled on purple for now but mabye someday I’ll get lucky

I’ve seen Jadefang on the tracker since days, but did unfortunately not yet get the quest to reach him – well, maybe tomorrow. ^^
I saw Jadefang the first time I stepped into Deepholm. Literally walked right up and killed him (hey, I wanted the minipet, I collect those D:). I kept the bombs so I can keep going back there to tame him eventually XD
Terrorpene, Ghostcrawler and Sambas I managed to find all inone day O_o but then again, I was in the “early wave” of lvl 85′s so there wasn’t much competition.

Why do I say that? Cause when you get him, you will be hounded by a bunch of people on just how you tamed Nemesis (“It said untameable for me!”) and/or how you got it @_@
Personally, I’m happy to explain where and how (heck, I even hold onto rares for Hunters into the area so they can tame them <3), but please… don't ask me when I'm trying to win Tol Barad ;_;
It’s worth noting that the monkeys in Deadmines keep their pickaxes after you tame them. :D
Picking up Burgess (guess what he is!) as soon as I hit 83 was my one must-tame for Cata.
I’ve been travelling for the last few days, so still have a fair bit work to do to finish the journey from 84 to 85.
Managed to tame Ghostcrawler around 8am on Dragonblight EU server. Seems this guy doesn’t yet have his own page on WoWhead so here’s some info for anyone else looking for him.
1. He doesn’t have static spawn sites – he wanders in an anti-clockwise direction around the abandonded reach.
2. He’s immune to traps so don’t waste your time dropping one.
3. He WILL hit you hard (3k-4k per tick) and from a distance as well so where you are when you start to tame him really doesn’t matter!
4. He vanishes like the warp stalkers, hunters mark does mitigate this a bit but not enough to keep him targeted if he pops out.
5. Respawn timers are still unclear, suggestions are anything from a few hours to 24+hrs.
Basically he’s a “Spot him, get in range and hit tame” kinda pet.
Good Luck to everyone trying to get this guy, he’s GORGEOUS!

Don’t forget he uses “Nerfbat”, which is why those hits hurt so bad @_@ I remember getting smacked around by him and even at 85 it hurt like heck ;_;

Well I just got jadefang and her minion.. Took a couple of days.. Tamed her first then went back every once in awhile till she was back up. But now I have matching pets..
Tamed Sambas on friday, pretty neat pet.
I have not seen the Ghostsaber figurines since Cata and trying to avoid the trolls too lol so is Ghostaber gone now?
Showtiger: they were there in beta, and I got a Ghostsaber on my worgen hunter during Beta, so I -hope- they made it to live. It is a -lot- easier to get now, because you don’t have to abandon a trash pet in the midst of the trolls. Just dismiss your existing pet, and call it if you don’t get a Ghostsaber.
I’m currently camping Jadefang, because it looks like it would take weeks to get my L84 shale spider to 85, now that my Hunter is 85… :(
I’m looking at you -STUPID- character/pets getting 10% experience at max level. :(
Can I brag??.. I have Terropenne, Ghost Crab, Karoma, Jadefang and mini, Winna’s kittie, No Sambas yet, not sure I like the looks of the mane on Him/Her..

Well I’m back to playing Cata with all these exciting changes. I’ve put Gebe on hold and rolled a goblin hunter instead – it’s a great starter area and fun story and I should get a monkey with a mining pick as Drotara suggests! But all this talk of spirit beasts reminds me I need these new ones – thanks lol!

It’s either a status thing, or the stats are uber. I’m not a hunter, but it seems every hunter on my server is using Jadefang now.
