Appearance Changes – Worms

Last week we talked about some cats that will be changing their appearance come Cataclysm.

Quite a few pets are changing their look, in fact. No looks will be lost in the overall scheme of things. (And we’re up to something like 130 new looks now!)

But just so you’re not surprised about the changes, let’s take a look at the pets that are changing. Today: worms!

Chromaggus – Core Hound of DOOM

Wain And ChromaggusOne of the more surprising changes – to me at least – in the latest Cataclysm beta build was a new tameable core hound: Chromaggus, a boss from Blackwing Lair.

Of course this look has been in the game for awhile, but we’ve never been able to tame it before.

I have to admit that I never clicked with the red and green core hounds. I like the Kurken a lot because he is fluffy and adorable, but I’ve always wanted more core hound options.

And Chromaggus? Amazing! Wonderful! Gorgeous! I want him.

Saber Cats Galore (w/Note on Rak’Shiri)

Cataclysm beta build 13277 may go down in history as one of the most pet-obsessed-hunter-loving builds ever.

One of the big sets of changes involves rare and named cats. Several of them – primarily the ones that looked a lot like the non-rare cats around them – have changed looks. Now instead of being normal cats they are saber cats – in other words, they use the high-shouldered, saber-toothed ‘riding’ models.

BlizzCon 2010 Mini-Pet Code

Mania And DeathyI got a rather suspicious-looking e-mail today from “Blizzcon@rayv.com” with the subject line “BlizzCon 2010 item redemption.”

All of the words were spelled right and the e-mail came to my real e-mail, not the one I use publicly, but all the links went to a URL in Israel that ended with a long string of gibberish.

As I said, suspicious.

But just in case, I went to battle.net manually (by typing in the URL to my browser), logged into my account, and found the Item Redemption area. I input the code in the e-mail and … it worked. I now own Deathy the little murloc.

I am guessing that RayV, who managed the paid stream and sent the e-mail, doesn’t understand how paranoid WoW has taught us to be about e-mails with weird links.

Anyway, if you get one of these, don’t trash it and don’t trust it. (You never know!) Instead head to battle.net yourself and see if the code actually works.

Angry Blue Ghost Birds [Updated]

Angered Arakkoa Protector[Update] As of build 13277, these birds are now Carrion Birds and not Birds of Prey.

Allow me to introduce you to one of the strangest birds in the World of Warcraft: the Angered Arakkoa Protector.

When you hurt an arakkoa enemy in Blade’s Edge Mountains, they may run to a nearby rune circle and summon an angry protector to help them out.

On the live realms, these little birds are level 11 – not a huge help for the poor arakkoa! – and cannot be tamed.

In the Cataclysm beta, however, they are level 66 and they can be tamed. And that’s interesting because:

  1. They are the only blue two-headed vultures we know.
  2. They are partially translucent.
  3. They are classified as birds of prey, not carrion birds.

See what I mean about weird? Also, kinda pretty …
