I made some updates on Petopia today based on information coming in from the US realms.
Starter Pet FAQ
Most pets do not get their Special Abilities until level 20. The exceptions, for some reason, are raptors and carrion birds which get theirs at level 10.
Transformed Pets
Black Crows have become Black Hawks – they changed from Carrion Birds to Birds of Prey.
Mottled Worgs from Silverpine Forest have become Rabid Worgs and changed from the basic Black Worg look to a Diseased Black Wolf look.
(Aside: My intention is to use these posts as a change list for Petopia but I haven’t gotten the feed plugged in yet.)

I am disappointed by the move of my ravens from the Carrion Bird family to the Bird of Prey family. Birds of Prey are very poor pet for my style of play. Maybe if did any PVP I would appreciate them more.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I recognize that some players like the look of the other Carrion Birds but to me the raven was the only Carrion Bird that wasn’t ugly. Several of my Hunters made the long trek to Northrend at level 10 just to tame a Daggercap Hawk. Now my ravens will join my Owl in the stable seldom to see the light of day.
I tamed one because it was the only Carrion Bird look that I liked. Birds of Prey are decent, but their ability is useless in PvE. Guess Lola is gonna be stabled permanently.
These changes didn’t show up on Beta/Test? Or was it just not noticed?

I’m wondering if this because they are going to add an actual raven/crow model… I remember seeing the image floating around somewhere. But it still makes little to no sense to have crows in Birds of Prey. …Well, parrots don’t fit either, really.
None the less, I hope that we get some more crow birdies that aren’t in the BoP family.

It uses a seagull’s rigging, but…maybe, just maybe, there will be a tamable model?
I’m really really bummed that my “Ferocity Owl” has finally been “fixed.” After all this time… Our true DPS Owl is now cunning. RIP Nicodemus the Akkarai Hatchling… You were awesome.
Mania, have you seen how Birds of Pray (parrots in my case) fly straight up in the air. I sent my pet after patroling dragon around 100 feet above the land and it attacked without problem. Are there more pets that fly in the air like that???
Testing again, Aotona can’t do that, only the new looks seegulls.
After an hour testing found that:
1. All parrots exept Aotona fly 100 feet in the air when command them to attack
2. Yellow and Green two-head carrion birds fly 100 feet, but Angered arracoa protector and Trachela don’t
3. Chimaeras don’t fly either
… where is the logic? Ravens and crows are actually “carrion birds”, in that they subsist at least partially on dead things. They are not bird of prey. And it’s not as if the Bird of Prey family didn’t have enough models and skins already…
Parrots aren’t birds of prey either, but neither are they carrion birds, being vegetarian, so what the hell…
I feel that they should rename Birds of Prey to simply “Birds”, so at least additions like parrots won’t look so darned odd.
I think Guntitan mentioned earlier that Parrots should just be detached from the Bird of Prey family entirely, and become their own pet family with ‘Nutcracker’ for their Special Ability. Maybe next expac? :P
