Blizzard has a post up on their forums that outline some known issues in Patch 4.0.1.
Some of these are important to know about. And one of them is just plain fascinating. Here’s a round-up for hunters.
I’ve marked a couple that seem particularly troublesome to me.
Hunter stuff:
- Newly created Hunters have a pet bar.
- Beetles cannot be tamed.
- Several Hunter Pet spells appear in the Pet tab of the Spellbook before a Hunter is able to actually use them.
- Pets have no animation for the ability “Carrion Feeder.”
- Wolverine Bite’s is displaying incorrect numerical information in the combat log.
- The exotic pet spell Froststorm Breath does not function according to its tooltip.
- The debuff tooltip for Froststorm Breath is inconsistent with the spell tooltip.
- The tooltip for Chimera Shot does not mention the healing effects of this ability.
- The spell effect for Cobra Shot travels past creature models.
- The survival talent Black Arrow does not do the same amount of damage as indicated by its tooltip.
- Many hunter pet abilities are removed from the pet’s action bar upon relogging into the game or zoning.
- Devilsaur are not displaying correctly in the hunter pet UI.
General stuff:
- Spell penetration does not update dynamically on pets.
- Ferocious Inspiration, Communion, and Arcane Tactics, are appearing inconsistently on the buff bar.
- Orgrimmar Arena: It is possible for players to get their pets stuck on the large pillars in the Orgrimmar Arena.
- Character and Pet UI can disappear if the player uses the LFD teleport to dungeon immediately after leaving a quest vehicle.
If you make a new hunter, you’ll start with a pet – and a pet bar. But the pet bar goes away almost immediately. It wasn’t actually supposed to be there at all. You shouldn’t get a pet bar until you learn Control pet at level 10. So if you aren’t expecting it, it can be very confusing.
It’s even worse when you head to your Spellbook to see if you still have the pet control abilities – because you do, but they don’t do anything. (This is only true for characters under level 10, by the way!) You can turn off auto-cast or set your pet to passive or whatever you like, but your start pet will ignore your settings and keep acting like a guardian (defensive, autocast all) no matter what you do.
So be aware of that if you make a new hunter.
The other note I’ve bolded is my favorite. Apparently it’s a bug that we can’t tame beetle. (Pun!) I assumed that they’d come in with the cataclysm launch, but now it looks like we should have gotten them today.
Of course, we have no idea if Blizzard will fix this bug before the Cataclysm launch, but if they do … Beetles! Beetles! (I love beetles.)
“Many hunter pet abilities are removed from the pet’s action bar upon relogging into the game or zoning.”
This one bothers me the most. That was a MASSIVE pain in the butt on the PTR and I’m very unhappy that it’s traveling to live.
Seeing this list makes me wonder why I even bothered to provide feedback on the PTR. :(
One thing I noticed last night on the PTR which isn’t in this list, is that if I let a Misdirection to my pet expire without shooting anything, I then couldn’t cast another Misdirection unless I relogged! I hope that hasn’t gone live too, but I’m probably in for a disappointment.
There was also a bug while I was on the PTR- evidently if you dismissed your pet, mounted up then dismounted, no matter the length/duration of time, your pet would -always- come back to you.
Which was hilariously funny when I switched from BM to SV on Yasindra and all a sudden my core hound was all I BREAK THE RULES and appeared all huzzah at me.
BTW whomever decided ‘lol lets make hunters level 1-10 with NO ABILITY TO CONTROL PET’ needs to be kicked in the shins by a toddler who is NOT being controlled by their parents! I leveled several hunters on the PTR and one of the biggest glitches I ever encountered was the damn fact of no pet bar! I had no ability to set my pet to passive, defensive or aggressive! I had no way of commanding my pet to retreat or attack! It was horrible! My pet would readily get set to agressive for no reason whatso ever, attacking anything from red to yellow mobs, to even critters.
The fact that I nearly died five times in between lv 5 and 6 because the pet wouldn’t listen to ‘ATTACK THE GNOLL EATING ME CHICKEN’ was very horrible to say the least.
I also reported this FIVE TIMES, via bug and suggestions and it also does depress me too that my own pleas over something so important were overlooked.
I mean I can’t believe how many new people will get fed up and disgusted over this, or worse, NEVER control their pet.
/double posting
I reported something similar on the PTR about bear pets. They use their demo roar and aggro EVERYTHING in the area. >_< Ugh…
The forums were slow to respond for many, many hours and now have been down for many more. Is there a technical glitch or are they being subjected to a targetted attack? :(
I think it was the stress of to many hunters trying to post/surf/browse due to no wowcra- warcraft. I doubt it was a real attack.
Well I hope it wasn’t.
how about the fact that many of the ranged weapons are incorrectly scaled? one of the biggest hunter problems of them all atm!
zods repeating longbow 10man is currently higher dps than a heroic 10man njorndar bow(or however u spell it)..pretty fail
“Many hunter pet abilities are removed from the pet’s action bar upon relogging into the game or zoning.”
Ugh, I agree Kalli. I try to organize my pet bar, especially adding Stay to it, but it’s always reverted to default whenever I log or zone. -_-
On an off-note….AH THE FORUMS what do I do for the rest of the day! *runs around like a headless chicken*
About the forums:
When talking about pets with a GM, they redirected me to Petopia. You could be getting traffic from that.
Lol. Petopia is to infamous for it’s own good.
I’ve been trying to get on the forums since last night around 2am pacific time and it shows “Whoops! The forums are currently offline due to high traffic. With luck we’ll have them back soon. Sorry for the inconvenience!”
Said the same thing for 12 hours now. :(
Iz cant livez without mah petopia!
Oh and regarding the new changes. (sorry for double post) They suck. I spent easily 300 gold last night not just to reglyph but to also relearn everything. But alas my dps just completely sucked in a random dungeon. Lowest dps EVER! Ranged weapons were yes scaled incorrectly or however you put it and focus drains extremely quick. Much quicker then mana ever did. I was ashamed to be a hunter for the first time. Guess I got just way to used to being top two in dps. Now I’m at the bottom wrung just above the healer.
Focus is a totally different mechanic than mana. You need to balance regeneration with other dps shots. As marks, I found that due to the bombardment talent, I could basically multishot indefinitely. :)
Oh, also, I can’t speak of anyone else, but I have NOT had any pet buttons go missing on live, despite this being listed as a known issue.
I have a rather amusing glitch… when I send my spirit beast out to fight… urm… he barks… rather like the sounds a wolf makes when you get the buff (no, I do not get the buff) when a wolf attacks. Myst is a bit confused, I believe, at all the changes… I have a ticket in, but it really doesn’t bug me all that much; it amuses me more than anything. ;)
It’s the sound currently associated with Roar of Courage and Terrifying Roar, unfortunately. >_< Blizzard just copied Furious Howl as the base for those abilities, then never changed the sound associated with it to something appropriate for cats, spirit beasts, or devilsaurs.
Hooky posted about weapons not scaling properly , quoting the zod repeating longbow 10 man as an example, there is no zods from 10 man icc as far as i know. theres a 25 man normal and 25 man heroic version, i lvl 264 and 277.
That’s right, Taggart, though I totally believe that the weapons aren’t scaling right, even though the example is inaccurate.
With their mention of a known issue involving Cobra Shot up there, is it possible that they were lazy and just copy-pasted from possible Beta issues? If so, maybe we weren’t actually supposed to get beetles anyway… :( I really want my Christmas Beetle too.
Hmm… now I really want to try out a level 1 hunter. But I sort of want to wait until Goblins happen. Decisions…
Hmm I feel like I’ve missed something somewhere but I don’t feel like looking through the archives so… can anyone tell me why on Earth they changed our pet’s special ability to an ability that does no damage? Example: Dragonhawk and Wind Serpent… their abilities were changed to just increase magic damaga taken.. I may be missing something here, but I thought Hunters didn’t use magic damage? How is that going to help us? And their basic attacks aren’t magic either… so why? =/
Are they trying to box pets, like really, really box them, so that using a Cunning pet is not useless but worse to use for soloing than a Ferocity?
I appologize if I sound like a total noob but this has me confused to no end!
Nalain:
Primarily so that there isn’t One Best Pet that all hunters bring to raids–all Ferocity pets should, in theory, do nearly the same damage, with Cunning just behind them, and Tenacity bringing up the rear.
In addition to that, the dragonhawk/windserpent thing you mentioned? That’s so that we, as hunters, can provide that bonus to magic damage to the rest of the raid/group we’re in, in case the raid/group is lacking [whichever class it is that provides that normally].
(The exception to this is Exotic pets, which have one extra ability and should, I think, do a little more damage.)
This chart might help a little: http://img837.imageshack.us/img837/3914/petflowchart.jpg
If you look at all the non-damaging spells that hunter pets have now you can see that they all have parallels that other classes can bring–wolves and devilsaurs have Leader of the Pack; cats have Horn of Winter; core hounds have Heroism/Bloodlust; silithids have Power Word: Fortitude.
I was experiencing the problems with disappearing pet bar or disappearing spells from pet bar on the PTR but I never once saw it on live.
I have been seeing a bunch of other bugs instead, which Blizzard doesn’t list themselves. Maybe more people need to report them? I don’t have a US account myself so I can’t post on the US forums.
I wrote about the bugs in this blog post, if you’re experiencing them too. Please help us get the word out to Blizzard.
Cheers,
Gav
@Jayson: some families of exotics can do slightly more AoE damage than other pets (specifically Worms and Chimera have additional AoE options) but, in general, a BM hunter can still choose to use a non-exotic pet without losing out on any damage potential on boss fights.
I started a new hunter in a new server to see how it worked out? And I can tell you
when ya hit level 10 its way to expensive to get all the training!! the amount you get from the quests is not enough!! I saved all i could of what i made from the quest except for paying for just the lower trainings!! like i said new server no 80 support and the cost was outragous for a new player….
Ferocity pets currently lost Dash with the currently patch. It will appear in their talent tree as learned, but they lose the ability from their spellbook (permanently) when you zone. Strangely, they also get an extra talent point when this happens, so you can spec into charge if you don’t have it.
