Cataclysm Brain-Bugs Back to Normal

Harakiss the Untameable in Cataclysm BetaOne of the more interesting – and contentious – pet changes in the Cataclysm beta so far was way that two previously-tamed rare silithids were becoming Buru-like ‘brain bugs’.

If you need to catch up on exactly what was happening here, check out my previous post on the topic: Bug Boss Bug in Cataclysm.

The situation has changed.

In beta build 12803, Haarka the Ravenous and Soriid the Devourer are back to their normal silithid selves – although for the moment, both are still marked as untameable. Beta testers who tame one of these silithds on the live realms and then copy the character to the beta realms end up with the same perfectly normal silithid that they started with.

The brain bugs, however, are still there – albeit with different names. The blue one from the Gaping Chasm in southeast Tanaris is now an untameable rare named – most amusingly – Harakiss the Untameable.

Yup – The Untameable.

Now we have irrefutable evidence that Blizzard loves us.

And what about the purple & red brain bug from the Noxious Lair in northwest Tanaris? An untameable rare named Ainamiss the Super-Exotic. *shake head*

I have hope, by the way, that those names are placeholders. I’m not exactly sure, but I suspect Super-Exotic isn’t the sort of title that the Ahn’Qiraji normally use.

Aside: This is one reason I didn’t have this information up on the Petopia website proper, by the way – because adding new models like this is a pain and I don’t like to do it until I know the darned things are staying. And this was obviously not going to stay.

Although we can still hope that the brain bugs will come back as their own pets – in which case I will happily add the models, of course.

And just to be extra clear, Petopia did not request that anyone keep the info on these bugs quiet – and never would. We’re all about sharing the informational pet love here.

  1. It kinda got buried in the Petopian forum thread, but we figured out that their names are directly lovable references to us!

Harakiss the Untameable is an anagram: Haarka is (the) Untameable.
Ainamiss the Super-Exotic is a loose backwards spelling: Mania is (the) Super-Exotic.

It’s a definite <3 from Blizzard to us, though I think I speak for most of us when I say that we'd prefer the big boss buggies to become real tameables instead. ;)

  2. Congratulations Mania on getting your name immortalized backwards! On a brain bug! Hope it’s not just a placeholder…

  3. Heh, I remember suggesting Ainam Ainarca (or something along those lines) as a possible NPC name after Breanni was added and you said you didn’t want an NPC named directly after you :)

  4. As much flattery as Mania deserves, i read Ainamiss as “And a miss” and then i get rather annoyed. But the tribute idea sounds much healthier to focus on.

So grats, Mania, you deserve it!

  5. That’s how a lot of people read it the first time, but it would make some degree of sense that BOTH silithids have anagrams for names, since Harakiss is AWFULLY similar to “Haarka is.” Besides, if one silithid was named “And a miss,” then shouldn’t the other have been named “Swing?”

  6. I think that in cata, there should be a stable master or pet trainer named Ain’am.

C’Mon, over a week and no news from the beta world?

  7. Sorry, Jaraii – been busy is all. Big build went live tonight though – I’m waiting for the servers to come up now. So perhaps I’ll have more for you soon.

  8. So just to clarify…You DO NOT have to go out and tame these on Live server RIGHT NOW, because they are making the 2 new or w/e mobs in Tanaris tamable atm on Beta right? Correct me if I’m mistaken so I can get him ! lol

  9. @Rak: right conclusion, wrong rationale. There’s *no point* in taming these on Live servers (unless you like the ordinary Silithid pet model), since the brain bug model is untameable and will probably stay that way, and Blizzard have now fixed the bug where certain ordinary Silithid pets tamed on live were being converted to that model during the character copy process.

  10. Hmm, there’s a post over in the petopia forums suggesting there are tamable brain bugs in the latest beta build, so perhaps don’t give up hope just yet Rak :)

  11. And, according to Wain’s “untameable skins” thread, Mania (sorry, “Ainamiss”) is now “the Hive Queen” and tamable :)

  12. I saw a screen shot of a tiger with red glowing eyes and a metallic sheen to its fur on BRK’s blog, but I can’t find any information about it. Is it a new cat skin, or is it the new Cataclysm Spirit Beast? I thought you might know. :)

  13. Enlarge the BRK screen shot. It’s a talent called Roar of Courage for pets something like Bestial Wrath that makes the pet look like that.

  14. @ Namaria
Yes, that’s a new tameable beast. Just a normal cat, not a Spirit Beast. They’re similar to the Cursed Offspring in Zul’Drak. They retain the eye glow and metallic body after taming, also the unique pose of the head scrunched down.
