One of the more interesting – and contentious – pet changes in the Cataclysm beta so far was way that two previously-tamed rare silithids were becoming Buru-like ‘brain bugs’.

The situation has changed.
In my write-up of the new Call Pet functionality in Cataclysm last week, I mentioned a bug you could run into when your pet died and you called another one. The few days later, however, Blizzard hotfixed that bug.
Now Ghostcrawler has posted to clarify how all of this is supposed to work.
I logged into the Cataclysm beta tonight to test whether or not you can use Call Pet in combat. This would be particularly useful to call a new pet immediately after your previous pet dies.
And … I can no longer use Call Pet when my pet has died. When I try, I get the message:
You already control a summoned creature.
I have to revive my dead pet and then dismiss it before I can switch to another.
Beta build 12759 contained a bit of a surprise for hunter: three brand new pet families!
Monkeys, which had been grouped with gorillas into the Primate family, are now on their own. (And gorillas have gone back to being Gorillas.)
Meanwhile, foxes and mastiffs both moved out of the Wolf family into the Fox and Dog families respectively.
Hunters have had 5 ‘active’ pet slots in the Cataclysm beta for several weeks now, but until yesterday (build 12759) we didn’t have any way to call them to use without using a Stable Master.
Call Pet, our one and only way to .. err … call a pet, would only ever call the pet in the first active slot. And Call Stabled Pet did not actually let us move pets around.
