Cataclysm Safari: Intro

Azeroth MapCataclysm beta testing continues apace, and although we are still very far from pinning down talents, skills, and pet skills, Blizzard is marking more and more of the old Azeroth zones as ready for testing.

Now ready for testing does not mean done. These zones are going to see additional changes, I’m sure, even outside the necessary bug-fixes.

But we’re beginning to have enough information to get a decent feel for the distribution of beasts in the post-Cataclysm world.

Smart Mining Monkey … With Pickaxe!

Usual disclaimer: This information comes from the Cataclysm beta which, as I write this, is still in a pretty early phase of testing. So this information could — and probably will! — change before Cataclysm launches.

Remember the monkey screenshot that Riske of Shadow Council shared with us a couple of weeks ago? Well she’s back with a truly intriguing discovery:

I’m sure you’ve noticed that the new monkeys are “color changers” at the moment, or at least all of the ones I have tamed are changing colors every time I call them, but it turns out that when you tame one of the pickaxe-wielding monkeys in Lost Isles… they keep their pickaxe!

How to Tell if You’ve Been Invited into the Cataclysm Beta

Blizzard mention on the official forums today that a new wave of beta invites is going out to some lucky players.

The post included a reminder about how to tell if you’ve been invited:

As a reminder, we’re distributing World of Warcraft: Cataclysm beta invites the same way we distributed StarCraft II beta invites. Instead of sending out a beta code via email and requiring the user to flag their own account, we’re doing all of that for you.
