How to Tell if You’ve Been Invited into the Cataclysm Beta
Blizzard mention on the official forums today that a new wave of beta invites is going out to some lucky players.
The post included a reminder about how to tell if you’ve been invited:
As a reminder, we’re distributing World of Warcraft: Cataclysm beta invites the same way we distributed StarCraft II beta invites. Instead of sending out a beta code via email and requiring the user to flag their own account, we’re doing all of that for you.
This means that selected beta participants, once their accounts have been flagged for beta access, will be informed not only via email, but also via Battle.net Account Management (https://us.battle.net/account). So, if you’re concerned about phishing emails, that’s okay; just keep an eye on your Battle.net Account Management page today to see if you’ve been invited.
This is important because beta scams are very common right now. So I suggest that you stay as safe as possible when dealing with a possible beta invite.
If you get an e-mail about being invited to the beta that you think might be legit, or if you are just curious and hoping that you were invited, so this:
- Open a fresh new browser tab or page or what have you.
- Type the following* into the address bar and hit return: battle.net
- Log into your Blizzard battle.net account.
- Look for the Cataclysm icon on the Account Home -> Manage My Games page. If it’s there, you’re in!
* I know this works for US accounts. I’m not entirely sure if it will redirect for EU accounts appropriately. If not, you need to remember two extra characters: eu.battle.net.
If you’re not sure what the Cataclysm beta icon might look like, here’s a handy screenshot. Click on it for a full page view of the account page.
And yes, that is my account. *grin*

I specifically told Ghostcrawler, “No invites for Mania. Period!” I’m gonna have a talk with him.

*smirk*
I got into the beta yesterday, noticed by chance logging into my battle.net account. I still haven’t gotten the email about it, but I’m happily playing on the server. :)
I’ve gotten at least 100 scam emails about it, though, so be VERY careful indeed. If you see one that looks real, then don’t click on anything, just log into battle.net and see for yourself.
Goblins are fugly, but kinda awesome and growing on me. Worgen I am waiting for females to give a good go, but liked the little bit I did. I haven’t poked at the stable yet on my hunter because Dalaran hates me as much on PTR as on the real thing, but I am looking forward to pet collecing; I’d be in the 4-spirit-pet club if I wouldn’t have to give up either my slime or my raid pet to do it. :)
Congratulations, Mania! Have fun with it!
My husband and I keep hoping, but neither one of us has gotten in. :( I hope they do more beta invites. Neither of us got into the BC or WotLK beta either, so I thought we were due, but… I guess not.
*comfort Namaria* There’s plenty of beta left for you to get into. I’m a little surprised that I got in as early as I did, but I bet we’ll be in beta for months yet.
Grats Mania! :D
*wave BRK* Loving your coverage too, sir! xD
What name is your beta toon? I assume you’re on US pve?
Frostheim: Yup. Mania transferred over as Manai and I copied a pre-made Alliance hunter called Manialla.
Congratulations on getting in, Mania! Yeah, I’m late. I really haven’t been paying attention to stuff recently…
I can confirm as an EU-type that entering “battle.net” in the address bar automatically redirects to the European version of the site. If you’re in Europe. It probably won’t if you are somewhere else…
Mania, you and I are finally in a beta together? I feel special XD
Yeah I managed to get my key finally in last night, woohoo!
Durkonkell: Good to know — thanks!
Rikaku: Excellent! Congratulations!
Do you have to sign up to be chosen, or is it completely random? I’d love to get in, but I don’t pay much attention to online news. :P
The only thing you need to do is ‘opt-in’ your battle.net account so that they know you would like to be invited.
Go to battle.net and login, then on the Account Home -> Manage My Games page look for the link called “Beta profile Settings”. (If you click on the picture of my account page above, you can see it just above the fourth game in the top row.) From there, tell them which betas you are interested in (WoW, Starcraft, or Diablo) and your account goes into the hat for the random drawing.
Thanks Mania! :)
