Early Look at New Stable UI

The newest Cataclysm beta build — build 12479 — was pushed to the beta realms today. It’s a bit unstable at the moment, but one of my informants got into the game long enough to grab these screenshot of the new stable UI.

Cataclysm Stable UIThese screenshots were taken by a level 10 orc hunter.

The boar you see is the hunter’s starter pet, which has been turned into a proper pet by using the Control Pet skill.

The crab is … just a crab.

Note that in this build, at least, there does not seem to be any cost associated with unlocking the stable slots. They were just there as soon as the hunter opened the Stable Master.

As you can see, there are 5 slots for the five “active” pets down the left-hand side.

Cataclysm Stable UII believe the plan is that a hunter will be able to summon any of these five active pets at any time, so long as they are not in combat.

I have no idea if that’s working yet in the beta, though.

Maia, the hunter who sent me the screenshots, said that Call Pet at this point only seems to summon the very first active slot.

If there is no pet in that slot then you get the “You have no pet to summon” error message.

There are also slots across the bottom of the UI for “inactive” pets.

Cataclysm Stable UIJust like the old stable, you can’t summon an inactive pet and you have to go back to a Stable Master to move a pet from inactive to active.

There are two pages of inactive slots, with space for ten pets on each page. Adding this to the 5 active slots we can apparently store a total of 25 pets.

(You know, as strange as it sounds I don’t know if I can pick out 25 pets for Mania!)

I’m blatantly stealing these screenshots off of the Petopia forum, but since I posted them there I figure it’s okay.

And my thanks to Maia for graciously supplying the screenshots.

(I apologize for the broken tone of this post, by the way. It’s 4am here and I am very tired.)

  1. One of the first things I plan to do when 4.0 goes live is to go back and retame all my old pets before Cataclysm itself hits.

Grinand, Trogdor, Fizzgig, Ribs, Kosh, Essentials, Arbez, plus the current 5 (Fenrir, Grodd, Ourobouros, Iceheart, Bandwagon).

Huh, only 12 stable slots used, and that’s with bears and cats doubled up.

Still, if they do make our pets the raid buff gap fillers, that may take up some more of those 13 spare slots I’m currently looking at.

  2. @Corwyn

Well, if you look at other windows such as our Mounts and Minipets they follow the same layout scheme, so I figureit’s only natural that stables match the design that’s already used and implemented in other places.

  3. I think I read somewhere that you’ll be able to swap between the active pets with your Call Stabled Pet spell that you’ll get at 80.

  4. Naaah, I don’t think so, it will be kinda like today : “Call stabled pet” will give you the ability to swap between INactive pets as if you were at a stable master. :)

(btw “grand bravo” from France for your awesome work over these years Mania! :-] )
