More beta screenshots! *cheer*
Riske of Shadow Council, who goes by Biske in the Cataclysm beta, sent me several screenshots of her level 80 hunter with some of the new pets — namely a red fox and a monkey.
She says:
So far I’ve tamed a few different colors of monkeys (I have both my level 80 Orc hunter as well as a level 10 Goblin hunter over there), two foxes, and a mastiff. The Monkey isn’t quite as big as he appears to be in that picture. I think it’s the angle.

Riske also has some information to share about the stable situation in beta:
As far as I can tell, the extra 20 stable slots for in-active pets aren’t, well, active yet. If they are then I have been unable to figure out how to get to them. I’ve been working mostly with 4 stable slots, as the last stable slot appears to be heavily bugged. For me at least.

I can’t wait for foxes, but that gorilla/monky seems really ‘off’. It looks alot more like a baby npc/critter/minipet to me. I’m wondering if this is actually a bug kinda like the baby bear cub during Wrath testing =(
I sure hope foxes make it to tamable though, they look alright, at least on par with old world wolves.

Hmm, both of these models look quite chunky to me… I guess they might not be the final versions though!
I think it’s that monkeys and foxes are both quite slim, dainty creatures (in my mind), so having them (relatively) large and beefed up doesn’t appeal to me.
I’m not too keen on the new models. Both the pets seem like they would be small as a Hunters pet. (that’s just me though, others seem to like the idea)
But one thing is for sure, the monkey does seem ‘off’.
What’s the foxes specil ability? Got the monkey on my goblin though :)
Foxes count as wolves, so right now they have Furious Howl. All the family skills will be changing, though, so we’ll have to wait to see what they end up with.
I imagine that the foxes will be on par (size) with the hyenas, which are another smallish pet.
I’m not even going to comment on the monkeys. Suffice it to say that if they make it to Cata, I’ll be pointing and laughing (and shooting) every goblin hunter, ever.
Oh my God..do I see the same standing animation for the fox as for the wolves? Yet again Blizzard fails to make REALLY good looking pets.
Long time fan, first time poster, woo. I’m basically terrible at hunters, but I love the pets, and therefore pretty much everything about what you do.
And this is a chance to contribute. I made it into the beta and I’d love to help out, but I’m pretty useless poking around on my own and looking for things that maybe somehow changed a little, and the only new non-mastiff pets I’ve seen are already posted here, haha.
Is there anything in particular you’d like to see? Poking around for new tamable crabs in Vashj’ir, scouring the land for some kind of crazy new warp stalker?
I just hate how blizzard reuses the same models for new beasts all the time. Like the fox is using the wolf model and i think the monkey’s using the freaking gorilla model, which is insane. I don’t know. I wish they’d pay a little more attention to beasts, at least the tameable ones.

Why is everyone hating on the fox model? It’s a fox. A tameable fox. A FOX. How often do you get to tame a fox, ever, in any game? And btw, I think that the coyote skeleton is a perfect fit for foxes in general, and that they should update the actual coyotes to not stand all knock-kneed.
The babboon model will probably get updated….keep in mind, this beta. They’ll probably all get brushed up before release. Have you all seen the way the mastiff runs? He clunks along with feet that act like hooves. I’m PRAYING that he gets fixed so that I can tame one in Cata, and not hate the way that he runs.
It’s borrowing some aspects of the wolf but it’s very cool, the fox. I’m taming one when they come out.
