Call for Beta Info & Screenshots

Now I know there are some hunters who have been invited into the Cataclysm beta already (lucky so-and-so’s!). And I am really hoping that some of you are willing to give the rest of us a glimpse at your phenomenal luck.

I want your screenshots.

Particularly screenshots of you with cool new pets, of course. But other huntery stuff would works too. E-mail them to me at mania@maniasarcania.com (along with the name you want me to credit or whether you’d like to stay anonymous) and I will feature them here on the blog. You’ll be famous! (Unless you are anonymous.)

To whet your appetite, I have two beta screenshots to share. These were taken by a level 80 night elf huntress on Gilneas, the beta PvP realm.

First up is our beta hunter with a black fox from Redridge:

Cataclysm Beta Pet - Forest Stalker (black fox)

And here’s a gorgeous shot of a new bird of prey called an Emerald Spirit. Yes, yes — that owl is partially transparent.

Edit: And yes, that owl is a tamed pet in this screenshot.

Cataclysm Beta Pet - Emerald Spirit (ghostly jade owl)

That’s all I have right now, but I hope to have more to share soon!

  1. These are lovely screenshots; thank you for sharing! (Especially the Emerald Spirit; that’s the first one I’ve seen of it anywhere.)

  2. How do you know you’ve been invited to the beta? I got an email saying I was invited but I was suspicious of it since I didn’t want to get a virus. How do I know if it’s legit or not?

  3. Great shots! In the fox shot, what are the weapons the huntress is carrying? It looks like there are two 2Hs on her back…

  4. Pookii, check the domain that the email came from for misspelled words and extra letters (like “warcrafft@blizzarde.net” or something). Also, don’t click any link without hovering over it first to see the destination. If it looks fishy, it probably is.

  5. Also Pookii, check your battle.net. If you’ve actually been invited then it will say the Cataclysm beta under “Manage My Games”. If the beta isn’t there then that email is definately a scam.

  6. At this point in beta, they aren’t giving out codes — just flagging your account directly. So ignore any e-mails that give you a code.

If you think an e-mail might be legit, go to battle.net (by typing it in, not by following a link) and log into your account.

If you’ve been invited to beta, you’ll have a new ‘game’ attached to your battle.net account. It uses the Cataclysm graphic instead of the other WoW graphics, so it stands out pretty well.

When you select the beta ‘game’, you get links for downloading the beta client and transferring over characters and whatnot.

I saw images of the entire process somewhere, but I can’t seem to find them now. Does anyone have a link to those pictures? Or if you are in beta, can you get me pictures? I’d love to do a post on how to tell …

  7. Restokin posted some info as to what a beta flag looks like when you log in to battle.net.

Battle net URLs (type these in to your browser, to not click on links in emails):
    Oceanic/American: http://us.battle.net/
    EU: http://eu.battle.net/

There was also a blue flagged post with screenshots on the US official forums, but I don’t have a link handy for that one (Lissana’s pic shows the relevant detail anyway).
