So … What’s Going On?

It’s been quiet around here lately for a whole bunch of reasons.

One of the reasons is that I’ve been sick a lot: repeated colds, sinus infections, and my first ever asthma attack. (Woo hoo? I’ve had allergies for awhile, especially to our two adorable pet rats, but I’ve mostly ignored it — which according to my doctor is why my symptoms have advanced from sniffles to raised welts to an inability to breathe. So let that be a lesson for you! Take your allergy meds before you get to the point where you can’t breathe!) I’ve also been struggling with my mental health. (My husband says I shouldn’t tell you that, and perhaps he’s right. But I like to explain why I sometimes disappear for weeks on end, and that’s a big part of it.) And lastly, I’ve been trying to drum up new contracts so my husband and I don’t go broke in a month or two. Anyway, I’m not looking for sympathy or making excuses; I just want to let you know where we are.

As you may have noticed, I’ve moved most of the ‘newsy’ stuff off of this blog and over to the new WoW Petopia Community forums. This way, when I am unavoidably detained, community members who are more on the ball than I am can post any news that happens, and my loyal staff of moderator (hi, Vephriel!) can make sure it shows up in the news feed. I’ve added a display of the most recent news items from the community to the top of the front page here, or you can subscribe to the news feed and cut out the … err … middle-blog.

So what’s going to go here, on Arcania? Well hopefully I’ll get back to some more sort-of-in-depth-but-not-necessarily-literature-for-the-ages type posts, like (and these are just examples): “How Many Spirit Beasts Do We Have Now Anyway?”, “Best-Looking Pets for a Goblin”, and “15 Unusual Pet Choices”. I’d also still like to highlight interesting stuff from other hunter blogs … if I ever get caught up with the 1000+ unread posts I have on Google Reader. (Amusingly, I first typed that as ‘undead posts’, which is also appropriate.) And if I ever get back to actually playing WoW, I’d like to talk about that as well.

(I have been futzing around in WoW a bit, via the US branch of the forum-based Petopians guild. Of course, being the difficult person I am, I had to start a druid for this hunter-oriented guild. But on the good side, my druid appears to be stuck at level 7. I also started some new hunters there but so far haven’t progressed beyond level 10. And Mania (the main character, not the writer of this post) hasn’t been any further than the auction house in weeks. Once Blizzard gets the armory-based auction house functuionality out, I won’t need to log her in at all! *sigh*)

And of course Cataclysm is coming up — sooner or later! — and what is Arcania without incoherent, stream-of-conscious live-blogging? (In fact, I’m somewhat glad that I’m not playing too much right now. I just hope that my disinterested phase lasts until I can get into the beta so I don’t wear myself out too early.)

So that’s Mania’s State of the Blog address and Five Year Plan all rolled up in one.

I can appreciate why your husband wouldn’t want you to mention that to us, but I for one fully understand and have my own battles with that (I’m sure other visitors do too). It’s understandable, I think we all would prefer you to take as much time out as you need so you can come back better rather than continue to post when it’s taking its toll on your health.

Anyway, I’ll subscribe to the forum feed, thanks for pointing it out! Get well, we’ll wait patiently for you. :)

P.S. – my Google Reader seems to constantly have 1000+ entries to read. :/

I do too have my struggles with mental health sometimes, so i fully understand what youre going through! Just keep on fightning and things will get better. They always do!

As Suzi said, look after yourself first. Far better to take a necessary hiatus than to feel obligated to play or post when you have other things you need to focus on.

Aww Mania, sounds like you’ve got your hands full right now. Like the others said, you have got to take care of yourself first and foremost. We’ll be here when you’re ready/have time to write again, trust me. :o)

Your hard work on the forums really shows. They’re absolutely awesome!

Mandatory 3 day posting freeze ;)

Get well and dont let yourself feel any responsibility to post. No one here would want you to stress for even one second over this blog.

I don’t post much due to shyness, but i’ve read every post of yours for about a year and bit now, and i’d just like to say I wish you luck with feeling better, and luck in your life in general :) Although I look for new posts everyday, I’d never expect them if you feel unwell. Again, I wish you all the best with everything

*raises a cup of hot tea!*
Cheers, from someone who can relate to the health and job “fun” – actually I know probably way too many of us out here understand those issues! Hope you feel better soon. I tend to go play alts on other servers solo when I’m feeling particularly mopey/untalkative, which seems to help.

I wish they’d at least announce when the expansion is coming out – I think that much of the lull I’m in now has to do with not knowing then that’ll happen.

Kind of figured that was what was going on. Glad to hear you are more up beat now, and that you are keeping the Arcania going. You have been missed, my friend.

Best of luck Mania, I hope that you get well soon, and i’m sure that you and your husband will be back on your feet in no time.

As for the more in depth articles, as I am sure you are aware of, I am very interested in your articles on the best goblin hunter pets. Of course I hope to get a pet fox, but if that falls through, then I’ll be looking your way for advice. ^^

    Regards

    Nikk

i just want to know if the zuk’ash wasps are tameable or if they will eventually be tameable

  14. Mania - February 21st, 2010 @ 1:55 am UTC

You mean this Zukk’ash Wasp? Current not tameable. Currently no word on whether or not they ever will be.

  15. mattjw - February 23rd, 2010 @ 9:08 pm UTC

ahh well that sucks:( but thanks for telling me

  16. Kristy - March 10th, 2010 @ 5:09 pm UTC

Eh, you shouldn’t have told us that you have brain problems. Ew.

  17. Mania - March 10th, 2010 @ 11:25 pm UTC

Thanks, Kristy. I know I can always rely on you to be blunt about things. *grin*
