Human Hunters? Undead Hunters?!

MMO Champion has posted a massive load of unofficial, unconfirmed information about the supposed upcoming WoW expansion, Cataclysm.

I haven’t read through it all in detail yet (I’ve been doing 12+ hours of Java coding each day this week) but one thing immediately caught my eye:

New Classes
The expansion doesn’t have any new class. Instead, Blizzard will offer more race and classes combinations to players, some of them have been datamined on the 3.2.2 Test Realms.

Human Hunter
[... snip uninteresting classes ...]
Undead Hunter

Again, this is all unconfirmed and unofficial. But very interesting, no?

Head on over to MMO Champion to read the full post, then let me know what you think about this in the comments. Meanwhile I will be …. finishing another few hours of Java coding. *sigh*

  1. Ryai is right, I just ran to Mulgore to check on Mazz. Compared it to Petopia’s pic in the pet listing: matches perfectly. Like Ryai says, might’ve just been lighting.

  2. Eh, you and Ryai are probably right, Rikaku. It WAS late, and I was half asleep. And just happy to see that my pink flamingo of doom was still pink.

Ugh, I hope your wrong neutrallo. I don’t WANT every race to have every class. I like the flavor of “This race can only be these classes, and this race can only be these classes.” You are right, of course, it would be easy to lore into the game. But it just wouldn’t feel good to me.

  3. Yeah that would be silly, it would ultimatly lead to some races never ever being used. The Trolls atm are pretty low on the played setting, they might go player extinct if every race could use every class.

I am aware of how ill written that statement is too, sorry bout that, hehe

  4. that might be true.

i just can’t wait the few days we have left to find out if this is all true!
(and, more importantly, if it is, when we can expect it)

  5. Forget that, Forest! I have wanted a human hunter since day one! I say bring on the human and undead hunters, whoo hoo!

  6. That might be true for Trolls, but I don’t think it’s the reason for Undead and Human Hunters. As it is well known, both of those races are the most commonly played (with the exception being Blood Elves being fairly dominant). Anyways, I think this:

If Worgen are going to be playable in the expansion, we know that these worgen are humans who are cursed Worgens. If these worgen have Hunter as a class, then we would have “human” Hunters (something which ahs occured in lore before). Anyways, if these humans can learn to be hunters, perhaps they have taught other humans how to become Hunters. And if these Human hunters died well then, there you go, Undead Hunters.

I know, silly, but that’s my thoughts XD

  7. @Rikaku

I agree about the worgen -> human -> undead issue.

Also: Dwarf Shamans because #1 not a very much played class (in the bottom 2 or 3?) and #2 with the ablity to pay faction change coming soon it will give hordies more options if they transfer alliance (if Worgen get shammys too then that would make it equal)…i think the pay faction change is a number two reason for a lot of the class aditions.

  8. #4 Reason for Dwarf Shammy: because i amz Gimlion, King of teh Dorfzez, and shammies are my 3rd favorite ‘rpg’ class out of any playable, so i would be a happy King =D

  9. I personally think that the humans and undead should have all classes except: neither have druid, and undead don’t have pally, while humans don’t have shamans

  10. Thrall for the Guardian of Tirisfal!! yay

By the way, according to Lore… I guess… you don’t have to have inherent
ability to become the Guardian. example, there has been Four Guardians so far,
the first two had no relationship with Aegwynn. Aegwynn, of course, had some
inherent magic power I guess… and therefore, her son had great power as well.
[Not to mention the power from Sargeras as well] However, the Guardian does not
have to have “Inherent Aracne Power” nor have to be in the same blood line.

Recently, the New Order of Tirisfal had decieded to accept users of natural and
divine magic – that is Shamans and Pallis. On the side of Shamanisn, Thrall is
probably the best shaman in existance, only comparable to traditional Orc Shaman Drek’Thar. Therefroe, Guardians do not have to use aracne power….

However, Guardians originally inherit the magic power from the Sunwell as well..
Currently, Sun well is down… so I don’t know how it will be.

  11. Humans as hunters does make sense. Personally though, I’d rather see the Forsake be Paladins than Hunters. They already have light followers otherwise they wouldn’t be able to have holy priests.

  12. Kayb I think it has to do with them being undead- the only time I’ve seen a undead paladin/fought against one, mean an actual scourge npc USING paladin attacks, are what appears to be freshly dead/turned/killed/turned Argent blokes.

I mean a quest in icecrown, as much as some people hate it SHOW how strong the scourge infection is, even in the most faithful of the light; how much it can dampen your ability to call forth its powers or save yourself. A Paladin is more with the light than any other class.

Oh and also this brings up another point, Tauren Paladins and priests but I’ll get back to that in a moment.

And it was shown even the Naaru, all that they could do was rescue the souls of those they could. Nothing more. This means unless wanted by Arthas/whomever turns you, you’re NOT going to be able to have enough power to be a paladin.

    But that’s my two cents.

Now, going onto Tauren Paladins and Priests, as it’s been brought up ingame by the npc, Taurens are all about balance. For years they only had one set following the guidance of the one eye of the earthmother- completely ignoring the other. For Night Elves the moon/eye also represents a goddess that is real I think.

So it’s NOT that far fetched for the Naaru to represent the light to the Tauren, given the fact that Mu’ru sacrificed himself [as they are basically gods], allowing himself to be caught to save the blood elves, and get them addicted to something more ‘stable’ than arcane.

But like someone pointed out the belves still got the short end of the stick as willing or not/wanting or not they HAVE to stay with the Naaru. Unless they’re able to get something to supplement the power.

Or; the tauren could go to the blood elves for teachings. As much as they hate arcane addicts, according to lore now, it’s not arcane energy most belves are getting high off of.

  13. Re: Cairne being assassinated by Garrosh for a supposed coup.

    One name: Magatha Grimtotem.

She’s been after Cairne’s leadership for a very long time. To be painfully honest, I have little doubt the supposed “bloody coup” Cairne was supposedly planning is an elaborate set-up created by Magatha.

She’s enough of a bitch to have the mind, and the means (re: The Grimtotem Clan) to twist Garrosh’s hate of traitorous members of the Alliance and the Horde into something more malleable that would work excellently in her favour. Cairne’s son taking over is probably something she didn’t foresee/take steps to plan for. Either that or she’d play the situation as if she was innocent of all accusations in his father’s brutal murder.

That being said, like Deathwing and Queen Azshara, Magatha’s been quiet long enough methinks…

    Re: Human & Undead Hunters
Makes sense if you have one, you’d have the other, really. Lore or not, having a human hunter turned into an undead, yet not retain its knowledge of the Wild Hunt seems a touch off O_o

Also, is it just me who sees the epicness in having an Undead Hunter with a bird of prey pet? Cannibalise & Carrion feeder FTFW! It would be epic. Enough said.

Though Blizzard disappoints me slightly with no mention of Gnome Hunters. Something that small with a bear five times his size and a boomstick he needs to build a lil’ red wagon for = EPICWIN
Then again, I like gnomes and I just think that sort of thing, whilst an OTT suggestion, would be awesome.

I have a friend of mine who told me ages ago that if Blizzard ever introduced Gnome Priests, he’d quit Horde on Icecrown and roll Alliance on Saurfang.

I am aware nothing’s set in stone, nothing at all on MMO is to be taken seriously until Blizzard confirms/denies it.

But I am holding my buddy to his word until they do so =D

  14. “Personally though, I’d rather see the Forsake be Paladins than Hunters. They already have light followers otherwise they wouldn’t be able to have holy priests.”

I’m with Ryai. Just because your race has priest as a class, doesn’t necessarily mean you follow the Light. I’m not 100% sure, but I don’t believe that the NE’s follow the principle of “The Light”. I believe (again not 100% sure) that their use of holy powers comes more from their belief of Elune the Moon Goddess (aka Mu’Sha for the Tauren).

Also this is from wowwiki about Forsaken Priests:
“Forsaken who once followed the tenets of the Holy Light often alter their philosophy upon their transformation. Forsaken have abandoned religion, just as they believe it abandoned them. Lost and hurt, these priests founded a new religion based on a self-centered version of their former faith. Dubbed the forgotten Shadow, this philosophy centers around self-empowerment and a desire to balance life with death. While they can no longer use the Holy Light, and have since learned how to use the Shadow; the priests teach that there must be a balance between Light and Shadow, and members must learn the Light as well, but never forget they were born from the Shadow.”

So apparently undead don’t use the healing powers of the Holy Light (like Paladins) and instead use a different source. Also, I’m fairly certain (but again again not 100% sure) that by abandoning the belief in the Light (as it says Forsaken believes it has to them), the Light would no longer serve you.

That makes me think about why I always thought Undead couldn’t be Hunters (other than my weird reasoning earlier). Because according to the lore, once you’re undead the powers of nature never listen to you anymore (technically thats why Sylvanas became a Dark Ranger “When Sylvanas Windrunner, Banshee Queen of the Forsaken, regained her physical body, she realized that the natural world would never respond to her wishes again. Angered by this development, she turned to the arts that were becoming more and more natural to her: necromancy.”[wowwiki again])

But like I said before, its Blizzards game, they’ll lore it how they want.

Now if only Blizzcon would start already so I could watch the stream XD

  15. I would like to see the gnomes get a healing class seems a little unfair for any race to have no healing class fair is fair…

  16. I think the basic idea of each race’s priests are tied into the trees. Humans, draeni and dwarves follow the light which translates into the holy tree, night elves and trolls follow Elune and….whatever it is that trolls follow which translates, albeit roughly, into discpline, and the blood elves and undead follow a more twisted path, translating into the shadow tree. Bbbbuuuuttttt you can’t exactly just give each race one tree, right? That’s the way I see it, at least.

  17. @ 74, Rikaku.

Hoo boy, I took to long to answer. From what I thought, (night elf is lore is confuzzling to me still ,even if it’s been explained multiple times to me. >.<)
Azshara had her sect of magic using night elves, the Highbourne. However, when bad things occured and the Sundering happened, night elves/most Highbourne went, "Hey. This is bad. Maaaaybe magic isn't so good." However, there were still some magic addicted elves, who continued practicing magic. Eventually, these become blood elves.

So, Night elves didn't approve of Arcane arts anymore, blood elves are all for it.

  18. That’s a good concept/reasoning behind why each race has a priest class.

And tbh now I’m DREADING this, why? Anyone ever been in AV lately? Altleast 50-60 av? Horde side atleast?

I’ve been wanting to scream, face desk and rip my hair out at the ammount of whiners, and no matter how much I report spam they don’t stop! They screech over Wotlk, they call anyone who has a DK or Wrath retards, they insult bash, whine, want Blizzard to cater them with special servers and it’s like LESS INSULTING MORE KILLING BELINDA!? PLEASE?!

And oh god even though it’s a nice way to funnel my lowest hunter up, it’s just, how worse is it gonna be with Cataclysm? did I spell that right .. anyways.

I hope with -this- expansion they DO make lv 60 servers. So all the whiners go away. Far away.

I don’t think my keyboard can take litteral facerolling when I’ve scared off druids, rogues and DKs at lv 60 on my lv 54 hunter.

BIG RED OWLS ARE EVIDENTLY FRIGHTENING.

  19. Ryai, the horde have been whining about AV since AV was introduced. I know. Me and my shaman were there. Unfortunately. Even when the horde had a large distance advantage, they whined. Now that everything is more or less equal….they whine. I just want to choke them DED!

  20. tbh I hate the ‘equalizing distances’, by the time we reach field of strife, even with pally aura up, alliance have usually cleared it and are hurtling forth towards Galv.

And it’s just blargle- that’s the ONLY thing I hate about the fix they did.

I guess I was unlucky enough to get spoiled on my hunter and warlock- I managed to get into sane AV’s with them while they were lv 50-60.

And just now it’s just oh god the whine just everywhere, shut up and play! Stop insulting us! Seriously I mean, just aurg. AURG.

Sometimes I shout STOP WHINING GIVE THEM HELL- LOK’THAT OGAR.

Theeeeen other times I just /afk in the gy for a free mark.

  21. Then something is veeerrryyyyy wrong on your realm, Ryai. On average the alliance pass the horde in the fields of strife, and on an average day, Belinda get’s attacked at about the same time as Galv. I am sure you understand though that before this the horde had a pretty big distance advantage over the alliance, and even now they can just skip part of the trip by not going through the tower on the way down, instead opting to go over the edge and cut directly through the little town there.

  22. then I dunno what it is, mean on my main, or atleast my lock atm as been farming for marks, I’m usually in the ‘first pack’, and it’s usually by the time we get to our ‘second’ grave yard, that the alliance visuals start cropping up.

Tbh before the change it felt like we got to the middle of the strife- on my realm horde’s realm atleast, evenly with the alliance. But then at the time there were very few belf paladins our side and half the ally teams seemed to consist of them.

Tho still remember that first day and I went D:

  23. To the whole phasing thing…I love it. THe only time I had problems was when a friend of mine was talking my 72-73ish druid to the Tourney so I could participate in a RP event. (I’m a RPer, thank you, and I’m a decent one if I do say so myself!)
I was on her mammoth when, much to our horror, I was pulling lots of aggro. So, we got dismounted, and I was running, trying not to die. (Thank you, cheetah.) When I phased.

Luckily, I could see one of our escorts, so we navigated enough so I could see the mammoth owner, and I mounted up, and voila. Tourney with little muss and fuss.
