Cataclysm Leak: Goblins & Worgen

According to WoW Insider, we will soon be learning from Blizzard that the next expansion is called “Cataclysm” and that there are two new races: the Goblins for Horde and the Worgen for Alliance.

If this is true — and it seems quite possible to me that WoW Insider has some sort of insider connections (Heh! Insider connections! Get it?) — I am very excited.

First off, there’s the distinct possibility that the Worgen, at least, will have access to the Hunter class. It’s possible that Goblins can also be Hunters, although I suspect that as a kind of gnome-analogue they won’t be able to. But I can’t imagine Blizzard adding two classes and no new Hunter races.

And Worgen on the Alliance side will give me a second Alliance race that I really like. (I’m fond of draenei but dwarves and night elves just don’t do it for me as characters — even though I play all of them. I’ve often bemoaned the lack of human hunters.)

More exciting than that, however, is the promise of fresh new newbie zones. I adore newbie zones — the content, sure, but the pets .. the pets! Especially since so far Blizzard has used expansion newbie zones like Azuremyst and Eversong to introduce new pet families to tame.

I’m drooling just thinking about it. What new families might be introduced in a Worgen zone? Or a Goblin zone?

Of course it’s possible that both Goblins and Worgen might not have newbie zones proper: they might start out at level 55 or 65, or even start in an existing zone. And if that proves to be the case … well, I’ll be disappointed, but I’ll get through it. Either way I am certain that there will be plenty of cool new pets in the next expansion to console me.

  1. Think about this. I just had the strangest idea while reading comments….

Concerning mounts, I think goblins would get shredder mounts, like walking robotic humanoid type robots since thier alliance cousins the gnomes get a robotic chicken to ride. The worgens would ride a taunka buffalo mount. Now hear me out and how I came to that conclusion. Really, it was this glorious flash of inspiration!

Think wolves….and the American West, and the wide open plains were wolves bring down these huge buffalo with nothing more than thier teeth! Now I’d think that a race that was even mildly intelligent would figure out that if you kill the mama buffalo, and you’d have a calf left! Or maybe, even just steal calves! Then the worgen could canter across the wild snow-kissed fields of Northrend (or whatever) with thier maned shoulders ruffling with the cold wind, thier buffalo’s breath streaming on the breeze in short snorts. ….Omg….. /drools a bit

    Ahem! Discuss.

  2. Though that could just be because I’m from Nebraska, and love buffalo altogether, majestic beasts they are =D

  3. I’ve been pondering over Ony since it’s been mentioned. In Blizz lore it’s said that for WoW Ony is officially dead. What if this is just FINALIZING IT since her head won’t be lootable [unless it's still lootable?]

The other thing is, I rolled my eyes at people wanting Ony and etc to get upgraded, not out of spite just, you know, of all the things to complain over.

And now that Blizz has done it, I’ve seen some of the VERY EXACT SAME PEOPLE do 180 flips and it’s like …

You’re no better than the droods wanting armor on a cat or bear- you can’t be happy about -anything- can you.

I would be happy if pets got fixed plz :/

Anyways I’m still not 100% certain over Goblins, it’s just, they seem a race TO invested in gold, and they don’t come off like the trolls or the dorfs or anything else it’s just …

they just don’t feel horde like. Ok Belves don’t either but atm they make more sense even without retcon imo.

  4. I’m from Pittsburgh, but no, seriously, werewolves should get bison/buffalo taunka-ish mounts. Those would be FANTASTIC, especially since the alliance really don’t have any sort of Native American based races. Maybe the worgen could be like…idk, sort of based that way? We don’t really know anything about thier culture, aside from the fact that they’re very aggressive…ahem. But it would be nice if we could get something like the tauren have.

  5. Edit: the remark over Ony wasn’t directed to people here- it’s my thoughts over people I’ve seen ingame in passing thru cities on mains/alts complaining in trade. Prior to this, and after.

  6. Personally i dont think bringing Onyx back will screw lore up too badly, all blizz is doing is upgrading it for an anniversary thing, not like she isnt still in game anyways…

  7. Eh, Blizzard is fond of !@#$ing their own lore, they do it constantly. I think the 3.2.2 update is a way to stave off the Aion release. Blizzard pretty much always does something similar when another big name MMO comes out, they’ll release a ‘fan pleaser’ of some sort to keep people interested or to bring back old subscribers.

At least Aion didn’t call itself a WoW killer, the most they said was that they’d come in a distant second to WoW. As for FFXIV…..I dunno if I like the sound of it or not, which is odd because I am a huge FF fan. Just don’t have enough information on it yet, I suppose. But at least I could play it on my PS3. *Laughs*

  8. Jangalian: I’m sorry but I have to say no O_o the forsaken get undead horses- because they were originally human, and the horses originally alive before being raised from the dead to continue to serve their masters.

But I don’t believe Worgen should get ‘Taunka’ or ‘Tauren’ like mounts just because you want a free Kodo, I want a horse on Ryai but the closest I know will be the Argent Horse, but hey it’s a horse- alliance can get a kodo, the brewfest one. So I would rather have Kodo’s remain original.

  9. ‘Omg Ryai, you are always such a downer. Let people dream. It’s a game….’

Um I’m sorry for having a different opinion. And I’m not telling people to NOT want goblins, and I won’t tell people to NOT roll Goblins, it’s just imo it just doesn’t feel right, and in the end I have no say in what blizzard will do, and when the changes come around, either as rumor has it or not, I might roll a goblin for kicks and then delete it, because as I said it just doesn’t feel right to me.

I mean while I WANT to play Worgen, too, after I calmed down from my rage and omg worgen thoughts, I realized, Worgen barely have it any better, but there IS a bit more lore that originally SOME force gave them to a night elf to have.

While Thrall has to bribe with shinies.

  10. You actually didn’t listen at all, Ryai….. I said a BUFFALO style mount, not an ugly kodo. Yech. And I’m not gonna argue with you, cause you seem to enjoy it too much. =)

  11. …..now I am going to be a downer. Buffalo, kodo, doesn’t matter, neither make sense for the worgen. At all. As a side mount from a rep grind or a drop, sure, but not as a worgen racial mount.

  12. Palla:
    (about the Aion FFXIV stuff)
3.2.2 probably isnt to stave off Aion. Aion’s release is in Sept, so I would say maybe 3.2.1 around that time as well. But more to the point, neither of these games will hurt WoW really. WoW was what took many players from FFXI. I think the big thing is because there’s a different feel for Asian MMO’s (before people spaz thinking I’m being mean or something, I’m not).

Asian MMO’s tend to focus more on tactics and working together than Western MMO’s. Weaponskill (or skillchains as some FFXI fans remember) are common in Asian MMO’s, where planning out special abilities in time with the abilities of your foes and comrades reacts different than in Western MMO’s (like WoW). Generally, these two types of MMO’s garner two different types of audiences. Most WoW players won’t be too interested in Aion or FFXIV, they may enjoy the free trial but it won’t desire them to play consistently.

And I dunno if I like FF14 either. I mean, it’s like XI v2.0, they didnt even change the races! Ok they gave them a new name but pffft please. I know a mithra and an Elvaan when I see one. But uhh that doesn’t mean I might not try it out a bit ;)

I also agree that while we are free to speculate on mounts and races, you are free to get as carried away with the ideas as you want (YAY for free thinking!) but just remember that some people will be more linear in thinking (nothing wrong with that either). That said, I’d love a buffalo mount, but I wouldn’t expect it to be what the worgen get.

Now Worgen, worgen can have an unlimited number of mounts. I mean, there’s so many possibilites, Im betting on its a creature we’ve never even heard of. I mean Hawkstriders for BE’s seemed kinda outta left field to me.

  13. Could give the Worgen a “travel form” type mount, like a druid’s bird form, only this one doesn’t really have a special form. Just let’s them run fast, but unable to attack unless they debuff from it.

    Just my free thinking.

  14. Then again if I think about it, they goblins would have to come with some sort of traveling thing that doesn’t count like a mount, to balance it out… or the goblins just buy another faction’s mounts? Ah well. Still pretty cool that the worgen would be all “I don’t need to ride anything to chase you doooowwn!”

  15. On a side note about Nagas:

Boots? Change boots models to look like tail spikes or something like that.
Mounts? A chariot, pulled by something…. fishy?

  16. Palla: But which skin? Tbh the only one I like is the creepy glowing eye one- the black skin I think.

I always wondered also WHY they weren’t tameable O_o

  17. Hypnotic:
Actually, if I’m not mistaken. When Nagas equip some armor like pants and boots (back in Pre-BC wow, not sure if the data is the same anymore) it used to affect their tails kinda like boots on draenei do.

    Ryai:
That blag stag is schweet. Wouldnt it be funny though? the hunter (worgen) riding it’s prey (stag)? XD

  18. It isn’t about threat level, Rikaku. It about Blizzard making sure that it never CAN become a threat. We’ll have to see when they release 3.2.2, but I am betting it’s around Aions release, probably within a week, a most two.

And there is a ton of new information up on MMOChampion, but take it with a grain of salt. However, if they are right, we may very well see human hunters.

    And tauren….paladins?

  19. WAIT WHAT.

    WHAT.

what oh god what Palla what.

    /looks

GARROSH!? GARROSH IS GOING TO BE HORDE CHIEF NO NO NO NO NO NO NO

    PLEASE BE JOKE OH GOD

    TROLL DRUID!?

    MY MIND OH GOD *explodes*

    I .. I …

    I ..

    I hope this is a joke ._.

  20. Worgen should get warp stalkers. How awesome would that be. Really!

I’m all for goblins getting shredder mounts. After all, remember deadmines? And the goblin on the Shredder. >.>

  21. OMG! Right after i posted that comment, I thought of something… Worgen Death Knights! That would be awesome!

  22. pala if u read this i apologize i was wrong on the EMFH, still don’t like the horde or the alli gets treated worse or better bit though, i hear it a lot on doomhammer.

  23. They don’t really get treated better or worse anymore, Feraleth, but back then they did. I do think that wrath was the first time it really got balanced out though. You really don’t have to look much further then TBC’s blood elf and draeni racials to see that. Yes, I LOVE gift of the Naaru, but the blood elves got a double tierd ability. A mana damage, and an AoE silence AND mana restore. There really wasn’t a contest, even back then.

  24. Imho, a human druid would be pretty amazing. Just thin of what animals they could turn into. Different cats and bears, hopefully. Also, imho, i hope the new “Hero” class is a blood knight.

  25. I was reading on Wowwiki bout the next expansion there making barrens different adding new areas lvl capped raised Uldum is released it is worgens in the area i said for them and sadly it is goblins for horde new cooler areas deathwing returns something about Garrosh Hellscream so go there and read.

  26. To 82, I think I want druids to have a Dragonsworn hero class. Y’know those Wyrmcult in Blade’s Edge, and when you are fighting them, they call out for some blessing and become dragonkin? Welllll….I was thinking if druids could do this chain to become Dragonsworn. They lose their resto-feral-balance trees and get Time-Dream-Life trees, which correspond to bronze, green, or red. We could even use it along the Occulus lines. Bronze are DPS, Red tanky, green healy.

So, they’d use their dragon forms also as a flying form, but can’t attack in air. (Like bird form.) They CAN use dragon form in Azeroth, but can’t fly.

And so the trees you’d have like the Time tree. It works on your sand attacks, and your stuns. (freezing time) So, samples would be:

Time Freeze: Stuns target for 5 seconds.

Sand Blast: Does X amount of damage over X amount of time.

Sand Sycthe: A finishing move that does X damage by X percent.

Greens would work on healing, with attacks like Nuture, but also could do offensive, like Poisonous Fang, so that they’rew a stronger priest.

    Samples:

Poisonous Fang: Poisons the target for X damage over X amount of time.

Nuture: Heals a friendly target for X to X.

Dark Growth: Heals a friendly target for X for X time. Damages a hostile target for X damage over X amount of time.

Lastly, red dragons. THey focus more on tanking, with abilities like Wing Shield (replaces the use for shields) and Wing Slice, (disarms target) They also use their flame breath as ranged and AoE aggro getter.

Wing Shield: Shields caster for X amount of damage.

Wing Slice: Disarms target for X amount of time.

Cleansing Flames: Does X damage to X amount of target.

THey’d be able to get quests at 55-70.

  27. If you would like to Tame a hippogryph as a pet, there are brown wild hippogryphs in Azshara just sitting there waiting to be tamed, also yes this is true, Worgen can be most classes, including hunters, mages, warlocks, and priests, there also will be Dwarf Shamans, Blood Elf Warriors, Tauren Paladins and Priests, and Gnome Priests.

  28. Im pissed cause the worgen were my fav creature in wow and i dont care they made a new model for them in fact it looks better the reason im pissed is cause i have a draenei hunter as my first charater and hes lvl 80 now and worgens have hunter and druid XD

  29. Adding the Worgen and opening Gilneas is great, but the Worgen in the trailer looked nothing like the current npc worgen which kinda makes it disappointing. I love the fanged baring look of the npc worgen and was hoping that would be the model used for the playable ones.

  30. Edit: So, I tried to tame every hippogryph I found, (wasn’t biased on feather color) and I can only assume you had a chance encounted with the Evalcharr or mistaked hippogryph for chimeara, for I got same -creature not tamable- error.

  31. what’s next? gnolls for the alliance and murlocs for the horde? (I know there are one or two murlocs in orgrimmar next to the fishing trainer :O xD)
