Of course the big news for Beast Mastery hunters in Patch 3.2 is Skoll, the newest and first non-cat-like Spirit Beast.
In addition to posting one of the many lovely screenshots I’ve seen of this beast, I also wanted to point you guys at the Arcania forum thread where many hunters are coordinating information about spawn locations and times.
I’m sure there are other great resources for Skoll building out there, so feel free to share links in the comments.

*cry* Found him after THREE days of solid hunting with my hubbys help. He spawn *YAY* Hubby tags him for me I come running from my spawn spot. Hubby drops agro Skoll still has half life left……BOT KILLS SKOLL!!! Aaaaahhhh stupid boters!!!

Tamed him on Arathor server, Bor’s Breath spawn point Aug 12th at 4:45pm server time. He’s got the nice lightning effects, with crackling sound, also he has a very unique roar… kinda “Grahahr” is the closeset I can spell. and it does have a kind of echo to it. I’ve only seen 1 other hunter with him. So I may have either been first or second on my server to tame him.

Finished getting Exalted with Timbermaw, and hearthed back to Dalaran to run any remaining dailies. Did the JC daily, and then took a trip through Skoll’s spawn points – and saw it at the disc above Brunnhildar.
Tamed on Ysera at 9:45PM West-coast time, August 13th [12:45 AM, Aug 14th, server time]
So I now have Gondria and Skoll – but have yet to see Loque in the wild, except once – on an alt.
Tamed Skoll on Hellscream/US at 12:19 server on 8/14/09.
I had just finished taking a detour to help a paladin friend, and i used ‘call stabled pet’ to call loque to help kill a few mobs. I went back to camping and there he was. i started SCREAMING in vent as i realized that i still had 20 minutes on my cool down, so i start flying as fast as my mount would take me to K3, dropped loque off, and then flew back, telling my friend that i would KILL him if i missed the tame because of him. anyway, i get back and there he still is, so im freaking out, and i lay down my trap. well, in my haste, i used the wrong trap. go me. Halfway through my tame a tauren hunter drops by, and of course by now my heart is beating halfway out of my chest. however, He let me tame it and instead went after an herb. (thank you, whoever you are). Anyway, so i got skoll, and i count myself very lucky. Best of luck to ALL you hunters. Alliance or Horde.

after some horde taming him, and hiding behind trees and taking out their Skoll so my NPCscan would go off lol… i was used to the sound by now… so when it went off i wasn’t too excited. but there he was!
for this tame i would say its at least a 12+ hour spawn… a friend hunter tamed his at 9:30ish am server.. i found mine at 1:30ish am. both times at the disk

I’ve being hearing a lot lately about skoll that his stats were a little lower than the other 2 SB. Can anyone confirm is this is true or not?
Highly unlikely… they all scale the same at cap lvl, unless there is a bug/glitch is involved…

He’s soo cool looking! I wish he made more noise though. lol
Havent gotten him yet. Been camping almost 24 hours… but one of my friends has him and DOES Say he is weaker than Loque and Gondria.. Don’t have numbers on it but she says he kills slower. *shrugs*
Well… The Long Hunt…. as it will forever hince forth be known is over.
Skoll has been tamed.
The Hunt started on Patch day. A few hours a day for the first few. Skoll was elusive but there were many hunters in the peeks….obscuring the trail and hiding the elusive spirit beast from my eyes. Orcs are hot weather creatures and the cold leeched into my green bones. The wind tore at my fur lined armor, chafing my skin, burning my eyes.
After a few days of casual tracking, I committed myself more fully to the hunt.
Day and night I prowled the peeks…. Stalking above a village of giant blue skinned viking women…. under the temple amist harpiees and their foul stench…. Even braving the elemental laden Snowdrift plains. Hours an Hours were spent hunting and tracking. Hours and hours of failure… Circling on my mounts. Rotating them so no mount would be flown to death and meet it’s fate there in that frozen desolate place.
The frustration of the hunt intensified. Here and there others claimed victory… I tasted only bitter failure… Once I missed the beast by 10 seconds. Seeing a smelly night elf capture my quarry.. Another time I missed the hunt by 2 minutes…. Some Adopted Tauren of the same family (( Yes, one guy tamed it twice as I was camping…))
The snares and alarms I’d set in the snow went off repeatedly with false alarms. (( NPCScan)) Other hunters triggering the alerts, some just excited to show me their success…and yes… some Ally hunters purposefully setting it off to be jerks and laughing about it..
You know who you are and you will burn in a fiery hell for the transgressions you’ve commited!!
(( No joke people. If you tame a rare spawn, and you see others camping it.. don’t fly down and pull yours out to set off tthe NPCscan then fly away laughing. You’re not funny. You’re just an asshole.))
Still the hunt went on. I went with out food. With out sleep. My commitmet to the Horde was tested as I even went with out dailys. Least I be off target and the beast appear.
At one strech I was awake for over 48 hours straight.. only to be informed my quarry had been captured at spots I wasn’t at 3 times… I persisted. My son getting into the hunt and sitting for hours hunting with me (( for me….. taking shifts camping)) and still no joy.
Only failure..
My mantle was tested…
but I am ORC!

Never has a beast eluded me! Never would I admit defeat!! My eyes would rot out of my head before I lost a hunt.
Then today, as I endured the frozen windswept peeks…. watching dragons carry off full grown furry rhinos…. A call. “HERE! He’s HERE!”
The Hunter who had tamed it twice, had found it yet again. He called to me. The brotherhood of Hunters preserved! FAITH RESTORED!
The magic carpet, ‘A very swift rug’ carried me aloft.
“FASTER!! HURRY!” Rang out though the cold. I goaded my rug as fast as I dared. Flying though dwarves and elementals. Taking shots to the back as I hurried to another spawn point.
Descending from above I saw the beast. Gnawing on the other hunter. Seeking his blood.
“Hurry! Someone else is coming!”
Leaping from my mount far too high I crash to the ground. My armor clanging around me and doing me harm. Yet I lived. The Nesingwary 4000 was drawn and I fired into Skolls back. BOOM! BOOM! Yet still he did not let loose of the other hunter. Finally the tauren fell to the ground faking death and I attempted to tame… bloop…. an unknown failure and here… a PALLY ATTACKS! NOOO
Bloop. some other mistake….. another failed tame…
Then… I get though tot he best… I start bending it’s will to mine and the hunter crawled to it’s hooves and pulled the pally back. “No don’t! Don’t kill it!” The blood elf stood down. Skoll was almost dead but yet I persisted. And finally understanding came to the Pally.. He tossed me a heal…..
And the deed was done.
Skoll was mine.
Tamed…. now a member of my stable..
Elation! Redemption! The Long Hunt was over!
Many thanks and offers of showers of gold (( Not golden showers)) Were offered to the others. Both declined…true Horde Members both.
Skoll now fights with me instead of aginst me.. Now… we are one.

Grats on your catch.. it seems that lady luck has finally given you a kiss. As for me… I think my extended camping days are over.. If I catch, I catch.. If I don’t I don’t. THE GREAT SKOLL RACE is too chaotic right now.. no way im gonna sit out there and have a jerk.. make my scouter go off.. I’ll run across it someday.. if not.. heh.. Tough rocks.
its part of hunter tradition to make npc scan go off so deal with it !!! its a coming of age thing quit being a sore loser. i dont camp any pets and i have all rares.. just pick a spawn point and log in and out of the same place everyday eventually hes there. always worked for me and never spent more than 3 days on them. dont waste your time flying here and there. its like going fishing and dropping chum everywhere and fishing somewhere else dont know if that was a good analogy. but you know what i mean. anyways good luck if you spend over 4 hours camping him go do pvp.

It’s no ‘hunter tradition’ I know of. Nor any of the people I play with, raid with, or am in a guild with. The behavior by some hunters that did that, repeatedly and on purpose was universally considered a total douche move. I wouldn’t do that to another guy. Not even on the opposite faction. Especially one I knew was camping, much less doing it more than once. That’s messing with a player, why be that guy? Why admit you do stuff just to make people angry? What kinda person does that just for shits and giggles?

If you’re that kinda Jerk. I hope you don’t play on my server. I know with 11,000,000 people, there are a good number of assholes are out there. But don’t brag about being one of their number. Try and be better than that. Ugg… Usually Petopia is free of such asine behavior. Most people here are friendly to one another and help one another, even if we disagree, we don’t go out of our way to piss each other off. Just because we can.

In addition to what Pepsi Jedi said, you need to realize that not everybody in this game is you, plays like you, has your luck, or whatever. Some of us camp. Some of us just end up being extremely lucky. Most of us end up with a combination of both. To assume that anybody who doesn’t do things your way is a bad player or a “sore loser” is arrogant as well as jerkish.
This isn’t the place to crow “haha I’m a jerk and you suck, live with it”. Go to Thottbot or Trade chat if you want to do that.

I went out to check before logging for the night, and flew to the stone table by the protodrakes.. HE’S THERE! (and a BE pally is hovering over him, apparently afk).
So I land, go to swap “Loq for my wolf that I hate, and the stable-pet spell malfunctions, so I can’t switch pets!! Arrgh! (BE Pally is still afk).
So I fly back to Dallyland, swap pets, fly back, and HE’S STILL THERE!.
Land, abandon wolf, start taming… MINE!
BE Pally lands RIGHT after I finish taming.. but doesn’t emote at all. I figure he was either 1) looking for the time-lost proto drake, 2) scouting Skoll for an Orc hunter that showed up moments later, or 3) was there for the rare-spawn kill, but was afk.
Can’t believe he surived there long enough for me to fly back to swap pets and then come back.
Only one problem now.. For MM spec, I only have one pet, my cat that I won’t get rid of.. :-) (Unless I one day see King Krush….)

I just got him a few minutes before 4pm server on Blade’s Edge. I had camped mostly at Snowdrift Plains for about 10 hours a day for 7 days. I watched a lot of movies and videos and got caught up on my tv shows while camping. For the last few days I wondered if it was worth it.. but he is cool and I’m glad I hung in there.
He was a tough spawn, almost every morning I would hear about someone who got him at the other spawn points and I was happy for them. I knew my time would come… but I had to get rid of a favorite pet to do it… time to re-tame my wolf. :D
Finally tamed this beauty! Luck was with me while it was turning its back on my fellow realm mates. Tamed him when there was an urgent realm maintenance that had to be done, a lot of people were getting booted, but I decided to give my hunter one circle around Skoll’s spawn points. I didn’t even make the circle and BOOM there he was right where the white hawks spawn. I had a heart attack, I was getting attacked by a harpy while I was taming him, but it was no problem. Had this guy on the PTR and now he joins me on the live realm! Good luck to everyone still looking for him!

I have been SB hunting since December. Loq, then Gondria, now Skoll.
Yesterday at 9:00 AM Server Time (Oceanic Server) I was talking with another Hunter named Jabu who said he had tamed Goindria the night before. I told him he was lucky and that I had been searching for an SB for ages.
He said ‘you camp here, I lucked out yesterday’ I thanked him and proceeded to grab a Rhino for the Jorumungar Egg Sac daily. Ran that quick then dumped the Rhino. When I have been SB hunting I keep one empty slot in the stable just for the SB.
At 9:10AM Server Time, much to my surprise, Skoll spawned right in front of me just to the side of the metal disk in the ground. Trap and Tame and he’s mine. Others have said they were shaking when they found one of these Rares, and I am no exception to that. I nearly fell out of my chair when the taming finished.
I dont think Im ever going back to MM…
I finally got Skoll this past weekend, over a month after 3.2 hit and am probably the very last BM hunters to do so…
Having just got lucky with Vyragosa on another hunter on Zangarmarsh perhaps a half hour or so before, I decided to log in and give it yet another try with my orc on Uther (who I never expected to get it with, given the local server age and population size… and the fact that I just can’t seem to resign myself to sitting there waiting for hours or days)…
Nothing at Snowdrift Plains, so I headed south to Bor’s Breath and seeing nothing but the usual white eagles started off toward Central Storm Peaks when my targetting macro suddenly awoke me to the fact I was just about to leave Skoll behind – surprisingly calm, I landed, dismissed my Jormungar placeholder, trapped and tamed Mr FrickinHardToFind as if I did it every day.
Not sure why I didn’t freak out this time – I just barely kept it together on Loque and was a fumbling, chattering wreck on Gondria… but done is done! Now I just need to find a name for him – was going to go with “Storm” but that turned out to be reserved.
I tamed Skoll this afternoon at 1214 server time on Garrosh. I had decided to check out the spot and camp because I knew tuesdays is a usual maintenance day. I actually had my wow screen minimized until about 1214….and when I reopened it, bam there he was. He was realllly easy to tame and I didnt even use a trap. He’s sooooo pretty! He’s the first spirit beast ive caught…and well worth the wait!!!!
Oh, I found him at the Brunhilldar Village spawn point (or near there) at 46 65
Finding Skoll has been a loooongg journey for me. Not sure if there have been people waiting even longer for this one, but I suppose there have been.
I dinged 80 and was looking for that special pet. I already had a Northrend worg (the white one from Dun Niffelheim) but I ran across a hunter with Skoll. Figured it was an “Ulduar” mob that was tamed, I never put much thought into it. Later on my girlfriend had asked that very same hunter where he got it and told her that he was a rare spawn in Storm Peaks with about 2 hour respawn timer.
2 hours? Hell yeah! I’ll check that one out! Well…after days of waiting and circling, patrolling and staring at the screen, I read about Skoll and learned that he was a bit trickier to obtain. Not giving up I kept going and going.
Yesterday I got up around 4.45 am. Nothing. Went to bed around 8 am again, got up around 12 pm. I spent the entire day searching for him until around 23 pm I just gave up. Was tired, went to bed, slightly annoyed.
My girlfriend had been up all night with her pally, searching for it, so she could wake me once she had found him, I learned when she was still awake when I woke up this morning and sitting behind her computer. Aww ^^ Sweet!
So I took over the reigns with my hunter, deciding that if I didnt find him within the hour, I would just stop looking. Sometimes you find what you seek when you stop looking, I figured.
When I went for another round through Bor’s Breath, Snowdrift Plains, I returned to the Brunnhildar disk. Suddenly NPCscan went off! SKOLL!!! There he was!!! Just chilling – har har -. I landed while getting extremely nervous, did my fortitude scroll (in case trap would fail and he would hit me hard), frost trap, gift of the naaru (again, preparation is everything) and I stunned him. As I started taming, he walked into the frost trap and after 20 VERY nervous seconds, he was finally MINE!!
Funny though. Right after taming a Rogue landed and congratulated me on the tame! I have named him “Frostfund” as a play on trustfund – bank alt, so ^^ -. I am still very nervous and shakey, but since I have read alot of comments on this site, I thought it would be cool if I shared my story too.
Oh btw, his spawn time today was 8.50 am on the Anachronos server! Hope this helps someone! Those of you still searching, good luck and remember to install NPCscan!!
Just tamed him 12:05 GTM+1 on the azuremyst EU realm.
I have been camping his spawnspots every evening for an hour or two. Furthermore I’ve searched his spawn points each morning before going to work, and during my lunch breaks.
It was during my lunch break today I finally got him. He was at the snowdrift plains at the location shown on the image below. -A tad off the reported spawn points. :

I was shaking all over as another hunter was grinding elementals just a few hundred yards away from him. -But the taming itself went without any problems.
He took about 2/3 to 3/4 of my health as I diden’t want to bother with setting up a trap. (i sit at 18k health, 9k armor)
I used NPCScan to find him btw.
All in all I think I’ve used 1.5-2 weeks before I got him. Good hunting to all of you.
Last year (08) I dinged 80 on Nov 30.
I spent the next year hunting up Loq.
After taming Skoll in September this year, I was satisfied…for a little while.
Loq was still the one Pet I wanted.
After leveling 2 DKs and various other alts, today (Dec 24/25 Aussie server)
I felt like this was the day.
I went to SB at 400 AM Server time (which was 900 Pacific time as I am in Vancouver Canada) figuring since (server time) it was early Xmas morning maybe there would be very few people in the Basin.
I had a ‘feeling’ that he would spawn. Cant explain it, just gave me a little shudder when I landed in the Basin again. Having been away from the Basin for a couple months, I circled 3 times just to see what I could see.
5 Horde (including me) and 2 Allys (that I saw, one of which was a Nelf Hunter) were the only ones in the zone.
I camped the one spot (approx 70, 70 southeast gorilla spot) killing and skinning gorillas and listening to my iPod.
Everytime a toon went by I would target them and /wave. I got a number of /waves and /cheers in return. One pally went by me, stopped and came back towards me.
I /waved he /waved back and left.
About 2 minutes later, he whispers me asking “Are you looking for Loq to tame?”
I replied “You bet! I have been looking for him for a year!” Without another comment, he invited me to a group and says “come to me”
I fly over by Skyreach pillar and there is said Pally with Loq at his feet, just strolling along.
I dropped like a stone, abandon, trap and tame. Seemed like an hour, took about 24 seconds (I had all my stuff on hotbars to make sure)
After the shaking settled I offered the Pally every bit of gold (around 750) that I had on me, he wouldn’t take it.
Just said, if you see him again, whisper my Hunter if hes online.
I sent his Hunter 1K gold and the BoE bracers from Ulduar.
I have now released my Spirit of Atha (who was abandoned so I could tame Loq)
and My MC Core Hound as I needed a new Tenacity Pet.
One year later I can say that Loq is the hardest to find and tame (along with the Basin buddies Krush and Aotoana)

Well, i hate to sauy, i was lucky to find Skoll in Storm peaks after i found Loque after a week in a half..after i tamed both beasts i had one thing to say…that Gondria spawned right after i tamed Skoll…i swear sometimes that Skoll likes Gondria, and that Arcturis just hates them all if the mighty bear just has one spawning area, and i am still hoping WOW opens up new pets..

On Madoran, after numerous expected hours….Tamed Skoll in Bor’s Breath on March 10 at 0337 server time. I killed Vyragosa while waiting at 0153. Happy hunting and I hope you don’t have to wait as long as I did.
