Of course the big news for Beast Mastery hunters in Patch 3.2 is Skoll, the newest and first non-cat-like Spirit Beast.

In addition to posting one of the many lovely screenshots I’ve seen of this beast, I also wanted to point you guys at the Arcania forum thread where many hunters are coordinating information about spawn locations and times.

I’m sure there are other great resources for Skoll building out there, so feel free to share links in the comments.

  1. Tamed this bad boy at 4:50 server time on Exodar at the edge above Brunnhildar location. I plan on staring at him in awe for several hours. Been camping on and off since the patch and spent 9 hours today before i found him

  2. I’m not too fond of the Northrend wolf design either but ya have to give this guy credit.. He looks pretty darn cool.. My only Rant is that he still has the voice of a normal worg.. lol when was this guy first discovered on the Public Test Realm? lol I’m sure they could’ve came up with something.. Ahhhh well… I’ll be waiting for the next spirit beast (Hopefully the red lion with the fiery mane..) lol I can dream right? Hopefully I run into Skoll soon. but haven’t seen him at all on Shu Halo.. But I hear that a hunter has already tamed him.

  3. See, I’m the exact opposite. I love the new Worg model, hated the old wolf models. Absolutely adore wolves in real life, but in Vanilla and BC WoW they just didn’t excite me. I’m always the one to stand up(and usually get shot right back down..) when someone begins talking about ‘anorexia dogs blegh’. So Skoll, for me, is the coolest looking pet in the game so far! To me.. Worgs look like half-starved, feral, vicious Northrend loups that have to fight every day for survival in a harsh and brutal environ, and I love it. Almost makes we want to terribly gimp my character by going BM. /sigh

    The moment they make BM viable, I’m shooting at it like an max rank arcane shot fired at a flagged level twelve gnome scrabbling about Durotar.

    As for Gondria and Loq’…well Gondria looks like it’s only partially phased into this reality. Not even ghostly, just ethereal in an odd, incomprehensible-to-us-mortals kind of way. And Loq has a freakin’ sweet model/skin, but personally I never really went out to tame her. It was awesome to have those pets in, but I never personally wanted them. Not too fond on cats. I got a pig before I saw every goddamn hunter in Kalimdor running with one for the stun, after which I quickly abandoned..(rotting agam’ar, poor thing) and I never jumped on the gorilla bandwagon..so not liking cats sort of goes with the flow. Skoll is officially the only Exotic pet I really want right now. Anyway, good hunting to everyone who stalks this beauty! You, and I, will need all the luck we can get. :D

  4. Just tamed him on Alexstrasza at 6:15pm just above Brunnhildar. Got home from work and was just making the circut through the four points I know of. Saw no one else around, so thought he had been tamed already. So I was really surprised when he popped up on the radar. Laid down freeze trap, he tripped it and was in the trap for the whole taming, did not attack me once.

    Was never one for the wolves. Was turned off of them after I tamed Timber and saw how he ran. Other wolves run ok, but for some reason the run animation for Timber just looked wrong. But I really love the look of Skoll and he runs half way decent.

    Also not sure if it was lag or not. But Skoll was running slow way behind me in Dalaran and out in the tourny grounds.

  5. theres 4 spawn spots now? i only know of the one in snowdrift, foot stepps and the one at bors breath near the small waterfall…whats the last?

  6. Just tamed him the first time on Argent Dawn. Spawn point was at the edge of the Foot Steppes, right as you come over that little lip from the south.

    I was frantically scared to death, honestly. I found out my entire BM tree -reset-. So I had to spend literally 5 minutes *putting down Frost traps to keep him from killing my ass), to get my tree recoordinated in order to tame him.

  8. Tamed on Malorne 8/5 the 27, 51 location is good. He was up near the base of the mountain near some trees pathing behind them. Incredible pet, easy tame.

    Yep – after taming Loque I was kind of disappointed by Gondria, for that reason. Don’t get me wrong he is still worth having imo, but certainly nowhere near on par with the others.

    You can see Gondria’s exact same effect if you check out the ghostly gryphons in Dragonblight (the ones on the beach – can’t remember if they show it standardly or just during the Arthas scene, but it’s the same light purplish color, swirling mist, glowing eyes etc)

  15. Just tamed this beautiful guy on Llane server at 4:14pm! Logged in at my spot above Brunnhildar Village by the disk on the ground and there he was! My heart skipped and I had to stop my hands shaking as I dropped the trap and tamed him. :D Good luck to everyone looking for him!! Now I just gotta name him…was thinking Fenrir might be a good name :)

  16. The four spots that I know of from here and a few other sites are…..

    1. Look at the map and find BRUNNHILDAR VILLAGE. Try to get yourself on the second letter “N” in the word Brunnhildar. You should be on a ledge over looking the village. There is a stone dias there. He can spawn there. That is where I found him. Non-aggro beast are the rhinos.

    2. Just north and to the left of that area and kind of around the corner is another spawn point. BUT…..this could just be a part he was walking around to from spawn point 1. Again non-aggro beast are the rhinos.

    3. Bor’s Breath. This is the frozen river just between the west of Brunnhildar village and east of Frosthold. Most people have found him at the top of the river, just north of Frosthold. There is a cave just the the west of this top part of the river. Non-aggro beast are the Hatchlings. Forgot first part of their name, but they are white birds that fly back and forth along the frozen river.

    4. Snowdrift Plains. Again looking at your map, you will see “…..” “dots” coming up from Valkyrion going north leading to a cave. He can spawn near this caveand should be walking around the plains. No non-aggro beast that I have seen.

  17. Tamed him by the cave in Snowdrift Plains 12 Midnight August 6th, Bonechewer Realm silly me dropped a frost trap instead of a freeze trap but all was well. Very nice pet indeed.

  18. Tamed him last night/early this morning 5am. Stayed up all night to do it but well worth it. I found him at the Borr’s Breath Location. It might be interesting to note that all three spirit beasts have spawned for me on the hour or ten past the hour. Could just be a coincidence but who knows. My server is very low pop so no one had heard of Skoll and I got the first server tame and quickly became a Dalaran celebrity. Or at least my pet became a celebrity…lol. Prepare for a million whispers every time you enter a major city and unfortunately you’ll get a lot of rude people demanding you tell them where you got it. I only tell the ones who are friendly :) Anyways patience is the only strategy here, I camped one spawn point, entered BG and after finishing BG flew around all three points and then repeat. If your server is highly populated you might not be able to do this as someone will tame him while you’re in the bg. Good luck fellow hunters!

  19. I tamed Skoll at 10.30 BST 7th august 2009 on bloodhoof EU. Now all my sparkley blue friend needs is a name. The only problem I had was the unexpected talent reset.

  20. As I couldn’t sleep, I decided to hunt for this fellow all night, from Half past midnight to almost 8am. I’ve been circling around the spawn points for 7 hours, and I saw no sign of him… It’s really frustrating, I hope I’ll be able to tame him tomorrow.

  21. I’d been spending all of my wow time circling that stupid stupid little circle of spawn points in SP for days now, haven’t seen anyone with Skoll yet on my server, was starting to think maybe he’d found a tiny out of the way area no one had looked in yet…

    Logged out at 3:15am pacific and decided I’d give it one more go around and logged back in at 3:18am pacific and there he was! Thankfully I was ready for him and got him first try. He was right by that disk at 45,62. I was standing just to the right of the disk with the blue people village at my back and all the drakes in front of me, and he was walking towards me along the cliff edge on my right.

    So.. confirmed sighting/taming on Undermine. :)

    I tamed Skoll this morning on Tyrande EU spanish realm.
    I saw it first around 2 am dead at 45,62.

    Then this morning 11 am, I found it safe and sound at Snow drift plains, spawn point approx 28,50.
    Tamed without any problems, trap and tame.

    More spawning points have been reported here. Maybe it helps.

  23. Skoll tamed on TM EU at 11-29 this morning (eu time) – looks like plain luck again=) yay! now, what shall i call him?

  26. Found him dead, so sad, near Valkyrion, after 5 hours of camping, at 12 midnight server, trying again today!! Drenden realm.

  27. so we’ve figured out his spawn points and such, has anyone figured out what the timer is suppose to be for him yet??..nobody on my server yet has admitted to seein him.

  28. a little update on my previous comment: so, I’ve watched the spawn point for about 8 hours (from 1.00am to 8.45am server time) without any sign of him. There was another hunter looking for him form the opposite faction. When I came back online, the hunter was still around the place, along with a third one, so Skoll didn’t appear while I was offline.
    A little while ago, (around 8. pm the same day, server time) I managed to ask the alliance hunter whether he managed to tame or not. Turns out he did find the beast, at around 7pm, at the spot near Brunnhildar village.
    I don’t want to jump to any quick conclusions, but it’s pretty likely that Skoll didn’t spawn for 18 hours on our server, as at least one hunter has been camping the known points constantly – a very long time IMO.

    You know, that doesn’t sound too outrageous. I watched Muradin’s spawn points with a few fellow Hunters just to try and see if we could get a timer up. I ended up being the first one to tame the beast after the server came up. On Muradin, it didn’t spawn til August 6th at 11:44 PM (server time). The server came online again at August 4th, 8:05 PM. During those 2 days, Skoll did not spawn. To my knowledge, since August 6th, Skoll has still not been found.

    I’m beginning to think he might share a timer with Time Lost Proto and Vyragosa. Now I do know rares can be up at the same time in an area despite what a GM stated about Loque awhile back. But I think it would be strange if 2 rares could be up at the same spawn point (Skoll, Vyragosa and TLPD share 3 spawn points with each other, maybe more). So I’m thinking this guy has a much longer respawn time. If he’s on a timer with Vyragosa and TLPD, I can easily see an 18 hr spawn time, if not more @_@

    Of course, this is all just speculation.

  30. I am to the point of hating the spirit beasts. I can never find them anywhere. I once flew over Loque, but the second i landed and flew back (was on a taxi) he was gone. Same happened with Gondria, but that was right after 3.2 and i lagged so hard looking for her i got booted and couldn’t log back on. I would love to find Skoll but as hard as it is to get 4.5K gold for my priest’s epic flying lessons, i’m starting to give up on ever taming the ONE pet family in the game i’ve never tamed.

  31. I netted Gondria during a whimsical circling of Zul’drak two nights ago on the way to do Heroic UK. Why did I trip over him on the first go around after having wasted probably 2-3 weeks camping all his spawn points and doodling in circles for hours at a time?

    Because EVERYONE is trying to camp Skoll right now.

    Everyone. Jeebus. Storm Peaks is like a hunter-filled version of airborne rush hour right now.
    I sorta want him… which means after the next SB is released, I should be able to just nab him without competition. *nods* Patience is a virtue.

  32. still no luck taming this guy =[ anyone know for sure his spawn timer? i have heard lots of guesses…but ive camped him for 12+ hours straight while duelboxing all 3 of his spawn spots and have not seen him pop…seen a few other rares but not him.

  33. Timer may be associated. It may not be.

    Either way I also got him. Yesterday. NW of Brun. Village like others. Spawned near the brown teleporter pad. I spent some time whipping around TLPD course. Figured if I didn’t get one, I’ll see the other.

    There wasn’t alot of hunters lurking for him on my server. So I don’t attribute it to TONS of hunters camping him out. A few sure. But since BM is generally looked down on these days, most don’t care for a “ok” dps pet for looks.

  34. Yeah same on my realm. There’s not alot of BM Hunters left, so I figured that’s the real reason behind the so few campers issue. I also attribute the lack of campers also being that it took almost a week for WoWhead to even put Skoll on the list. XD

  35. Spenta few hours looking for him the last few days… and today when I logged on their was a hunter standing right in font of me with Skoll tamed… I was ticked…

  36. Here’s a trivia… Skoll is a part of Norse mythology in regards to a Wolf that devours light.

    “…The wolves Hati and Skoll chase the sun and the moon across the heavens each day, but it shall not always be so. The time of the Ragnarok will come, the time of the Gotterdammerung, when the world shall be plunged into a winter as it has never known. This is the Fimbulvetr. There shall be three such endless winters, winters of unspeakable cold that will freeze the hearts of men and gods alike, for this is the beginning of the end. The wolf Skoll shall devour the sun and his brother Hati, the moon. The world will know no light. Yet, there is a wolf still more terrible, and he is called Fenrir.”

    It is kind of in keeping with the Norse-style theme of Northrend’s inhabitants.

    It makes me wonder if there is another “Wolf” Spirit Beast in the future named “Hati”….. or maybe even Fenrir.

  37. … Skoll, by the way… chases the sun… when Skoll devours the sun partway, it signifies a solar eclipse… and when Hati devours the moon partway, it signifies a lunar eclipse.

  38. ? WoW Head STILL haven’t added Skoll. They have yet to add it. There is no “non-player character” search when looking for Skoll.

  40. well all, I just tamed him, got very lucky I had just logged on, was in the kitchen for a few minutes.. Popped back to my computer.. saw this blue creature walk by me.. not sure but thinking it was just me i moved and saw him… Tamed him at around 10:20am on Zul’jin…. at 46.1/65.6

  42. Wowhead does NOT have Skoll on it’s database yet. has a dagger called Skoll’s Fang. The pet itself is still NOT listed on wowhead.

    Yeah um, Skoll’s been on WoWhead since like 1 AM yesterday morning =) I was working on my own comment on it for quite awhile yesterday. So yes, it’s there.

  46. @Rikaku: Thats awesome how you macroed a sound clip.. can you only do that for Illidan or others and if you can do that for others do you mind me getting your help for setting up a macro for a certain sound effect the drakes in coldarra make?

    You can do it with any sound contained in the WoW folder in your computer. I just used Illidan because he’s loud XD However, I’m not positive how to change it to other sound files as I’m not proficient in that. I made that target macro a very long time ago when another Hunter showed me how. If I figure out how to make the other coldarra drake sound, I’ll let you know.

  48. @Rikaku thanks so much!! lol I may sound a little geeky but Its the daily right above the nexus where you have to mount the red drake and slay 5 blue ones.. the noise I wish to macro is the drakes’ deathwail right after you slay them. but if you happen to figure it out.. feel free to let me know. and thanks.. and also… grats on your spirit beast acquisition.. I’m still on the hunt.. Hopefully I run across him soon.

  49. I am having terrible luck with this pet. Have not seem him once but have seen vyragosa 5 times now and have personally killed it 3 of those times. Skoll just will not spawn for me at all.

  50. So I thought I’d try and grab Skoll before maintenance, and found him at a slightly different spawn point on Medivh. He was at 27,47 more NW from the spawn point at the mouth of the valley, and he just spawned right under me. Total cake to tame, didn’t hit hard, just landed on him, dropped my ice trap and started taming. Probably would’ve taken a little less damage if I would have remember to turn of AotV. Heh.
