Patch 3.2 has finally made it to the live realms! Of course, the live realms aren’t up yet as I type this, but they will be soon enough I imagine.
In the meantime, read on for the hunter patch notes (or head to the official site for the entirety of the patch notes) and feel free to comment your brains out while I work on getting Petopia updated.
Classes: General
- All pets now receive 40% of their master’s resilience and 100% of their master’s spell penetration. In addition, if a player is at their appropriate spell hit chance or hit chance maximum, their pet will be at the maximum for spell hit chance, hit chance, and expertise. If they are below the maximum, their pet will be proportionately below those maximums.
Classes: Hunters
- Aspect of the Cheetah: Can now be learned at level 16.
- Deterrence: This ability now allows the hunter to parry spells and attacks from behind as well as in front. Now has a new visual spell effect.
- The time that traps will exist in the world after being put down has been reduced to 30 seconds, down from 1 minute.
- Frost Trap: Will no longer “fizzle” on targets immune to snare effects, however Lock and Load will not succeed when using Frost Trap if the target is immune to snare effects.
- Snake Trap: The Mind-numbing Poison effect has been reduced to a 30% increase in casting time, down from 50% to match similar effects.
- Traps now have separate 30-second cooldown categories: Fire (Immolation Trap, Explosive Trap and Black Arrow), Frost (Freezing Trap, Frost Trap) and Nature (Snake Trap). A hunter can have one trap of each category placed at one time.
- Beast Mastery
- Catlike Reflexes now also reduces the cooldown of your Kill Command ability by 10/20/30 seconds.
- Survival
- Entrapment: This talent no longer works with Immolation Trap or Explosive Trap.
- Lock and Load: Now has a 22-second cooldown. The Lock and Load effect cannot be obtained on targets immune to snare effects when Frost Trap is used.
- Pets
- Roar of Sacrifice: Redesigned. This ability can now be used on any friendly target to make that target immune to critical strikes, but the hunter pet takes 20% of all damage taken by that friendly target. Cooldown is now 1 minute, up from 30 seconds.
Bug Fixes: Hunters
- All ranks of Sonic Blast now properly have an 80 Focus cost.
- Black Arrow Ranks 5 and 6 training costs have been lowered significantly.
- Furious Howl: Ranks 1-5 will no longer give slightly more attack power than is listed in their tooltips.
- Lock and Load: The tooltip for this talent has been updated to indicate that it also works with Explosive Trap.
- Roar of Sacrifice: Damage transferred to pet is now considered Nature damage.
- The tooltip for Improved Tracking has been slightly re-written to indicate that it only works on the hunter, and works on melee damage as well.
- T.N.T. (Rank 3): Now indicates that the talent works with Black Arrow.

Yeah as she still has to add the Owl that is a Carrion Bird, but there’s no rush really. I mean Thott/Wowhead probably has the spawn locations already or links or etc.
I’d just like confirmation of ‘Froggle’ either being another untameable npc skin [like the onyx panther or black warpstalker or the changing warp in netherstorm] OR if it is tameable.
As the green skin isn’t as bad as the Turqoise skin [just brown tails, broooowwwn urg]

Saw a hunter with Skoll on Tortheldrin server. She captured him near Engine of Makers. Happy hunting.
Just to confirm for anyone that is reading here but hasn’t logged in themselves yet:
- Animal Handler has changed to grant 5/10% additional AP to your pet (since pet expertise now scales with the hunter’s hit rating)
- Wild Hunt has changed to grant 15/30% additional AP conversion (up from 10/20%)
- Cat Rake is now “an additional 19 to 25 damage every 3 seconds” rather than the old “an additional 19 to 25 seconds over 9 seconds”.
I checked the rake change on a training dummy – my cat hit for 124/75/75/75, so that looks about right.
Actually I’m not sure how cat rake scales with AP, so I don’t think the numbers I got from the training dummy actually mean anything at all.
As high a factor of cool Skoll has, I’m completely bowing out of the race to tame him. A sparkly blue wolf is awesome-SOUNDING, but then I saw that they use the god aweful saberworg model. Siiiighhh….this would have been absolutely squealolicious if they would have used the dire wolf model. Hell, I could have even used the coyote model!
I think there should be a spirit animal for every animal family…we’ve done cats and wolves, now how about bears? Or even………TYRANNOSAURUS REX? =D =D =D As you can see from my huge smiles, that would be just perfect. But seriously, everyone, good luck getting him. I have Loque and Gondria, and I’m good with that.
I noticed they added a sound effect to the devilsaurs. When they do the crouch down and roar animation it now has a roar sound effect with it. It sounds similar to the sound they make when you send them in to attack.

Oh yeah! I saw that too on the PTR, which is good, cause when a devilsaur roars it’s like a full body motion and to not have a sound at all is kind of like………what? I’m totally in favor of this new change! Also, they cut down on the amount of times it’ll roar within a time period, and I’m guessing that this is to keep people from being pissed off with the new roar noise. =) Thanks for reminding me.
Blah I’m used to noisy pets tbh, I mean I have a Spirit Beast and a Wasp, you can hear them from half a mile away.
But I’m glad they DID give Devilsaur’s a roar- I wonder what other pets got a change? I hope Corehounds too, I’ve got an acid green on my orc and I’m kinda sad when it throws both heads back, it’s as quiet as a rock :(
Now that the new rake does damage every 3 seconds, with a 9 second duration, it’d be ticks on 3, 6, and 9 second marks. How does this work with Longevity? THat makes rake castable every 7 seconds. Does it chop off the last tick? Or will it patiently wait till after the 9th second to refresh, as if the pet didnt have longevity?
The devilsaur roar was surprising. I thought I heard a raptor roaring too, but I had my minipet out at the same time (hatchling raptor) and it roared as well. So I’m not sure who really roared. I wish the Spirit beasts had a roar when they yawn. That sound effect when you talk to Har’koa would be perfect.

by the way i am starting to think that skoll wont spawn if there is another rare in the area. i camped him for almost 12 hours straight and he never showed, did kill a rare dragon but that was it. i finially had to get some sleep for a few hours lol, logged back on and he was still not there and no other hunters campin him. so….round 2 of the camp begins! *ding*
Now if they can STOP my pet from trying to hit a mob from behind……
Bears are back as low level tanking pets! I’ve been leveling a hunter alt (currently 12) and have found a 12 bear can hold 3 of the Troggs in Loch Modan.
Nice little add on to get is silver dragon sounds an alarm for all rares and if your close enough use your hunters mark to pinpoint him faster thats how i tamed gondria quick without alot of camping

Silver Dragon add on I hope has been remodified for 3,2?It is sweet detects all rare in area if your in close to the area the rare is a portrait or 3d image pops up and your choice of alarm goes off and when the portrait/3d pops up click on click target and if your real close the target like in battle comes up!! Oh yeah there is a icon that appears on the map ring go over it in the place your ar like tanaris Icecrown whatever and will tell you all rares in those areas!! I just use hunters mark so i can see them faster just in case of some trees bushes etc.. might block the view in some way was great for finding aotonna too and wish krush would appear more He reamed me hard once but havent seen him since when i went back after Rez he was dead but i skinned him what a shame i like that big green cuteness of teeth LOL Want a Green Devilsaur
I use SilverDragon as well, and I agree it’s a fabulous addon, but it hasn’t been updated to include Skoll yet. I’ve grabbed npcscan for the time being. Hopefully SilverDragon will be updated soon.
I believe there is a new Spirit Beast called Skoll now available, this was noticed due to a change in the add-on _NPCSCan since the patch, does anyone have any further info on this new beast? It has virtually the same name as one of my characters Vargul Blighthound, Sköll.

I have just noticed something, and don’t know if it came before Patch 3.2 or not, but the Sapphire hive drones have a different face now then the sapphire hive wasp and queen. the wasp and queen have large jaws and the drones have a more “Wasp” or “bee” face to them…
I don’t know if anybody else noticed this or not…

I ran with a Hive Drone for a looong time….that was until 3.1, when the changes you described went into effect. They basically swapped the model out and slapped the texture on the oldworld slithid wasps instead of the boss wasp model. Unfortunately most hunters seem to have approved of this …..oui..
You know what would make me roll BM? If the Devilsaurs made the Jurassic Park T-Rex roar (you know, the 4 er 5 seperate animal noises mashed into one one) attached to each and every command and attack, over and over, stacking on each other, really really loud. I’d prolly die from laughter of how annoying it would be. I’d love it!
I would like to scope out the phase hunter in Arc, but I’ve actually never been in there and would need a friend to guide me…heh.
I can confirm Skoll is available as I just tamed him on Daggerspine. By the ehinos just above Brunhilldar village on the ledge.

as for more info he has all of the same abilities as other spirit beasts. He is a large ice blue worg though instead of a cat with electricity around him.

Because Blizzard has yet to make Sithilid wasps tameable [hell don't see why not, they could be the exotic versions of wasps, 8% armor reduction on their sting kaching], and they have made Sithilid tanks broken and not fixed them yet afaik [people have reported dash problems or something I forget], so untill then this is the ONLY wasp of the sithilid model you can tame …
… I find it cute how much it shrinks hehe.
Then on the occasions I bring out Aurelius my HIVE QUEEN :D I get stares and such or like this last time Aria said ‘damn even the text is big’.
But tbh there’s nothing wrong with the change imo, I mean you still get one insanely large wasp to tame.
Ok now .. now I don’t know if this was implimented before now or not as I’ve not used a chimera recently but ..
I think .. froststorm breath is messed up or something, atm I’m trying to do the orphan quest on my lv 72 hunter who has Nuramoc, and when he/she/it used Froststorm breath, I AGGROED A NETRUAL MOB.

True- the hive wasp is still there, but I personally didn’t care for the black and blue or red ones…
Annnnnd Roar of Sac is now pretty darn near useless=( I was hoping the change would be Crit Immunity on other targets, 20% reduction when casted on yourself, but it’s just crit immunity all around. Was running some test duels with my rogue buddy just now – it was bizarre: since the transfer damage was altered to count as nature damage, my pet was getting hit for tons of ones….seriously, ONES, 1 1 1 1 1 1…. And I was taking full damage… Course this may be because he had poisoned blades, but that never negated damage when rogues in the past focused on hunter pets (which does oddly happen much more than you’d think in BGs.) I honestly never really liked wolverine bite because it seems far too situational when you are adding pet expertise or hit rate. Picking that or wild hunt instead…well I might as well run with a Hyena in pvp or something.
I was kinda concerned that the resilience change were going to make the stat stacking far more mandatory, and from early signs, it sounds like it’s going to be the case. I’ve said before, I’ve loved stamina stacking and more tankerly hunter builds, but with the loss of burst and resilience coming to pets, while it was not very efficient to begin with, I’m concerned it’s gonna be completely ineffective now.
I know I know, I just don’t like feeling totally cookie cutter when it comes to pvp stats, like every other hunter stacking agi/crit/resiliance and a hint of hit, and spell pen…
A one-button trap macro seems to work – I can setup a casting sequence for frost/fire/nature to one keybind, tap the key repeatedly, it will lay out all three as the cooldowns clear up, no problems (just not at once to be clear.) I wonder if that’ll be fixed later since priority paired cooldown abilities macros (i.e. putting esplosive shot, kill shot, aimed shot, etc together on one key to cast when the CDs are up,) can’t be macro’d together anymore… For now, I’m gonna try to make it more complex with modLshift/alt changes, etc…
*like every other SURVIVAL hunter stacking agi/crit….etc, I should correct.
Saranette, Wolverine bite is more of a PvP tool then a PvE one. It works in PvE for leveling, but at hit cap will be far less useful. However PvP gear does not contain the hit stat, therefor things will still be dodging, making it useful there. As for situational in leveling and pre-hit cap, not really. If your a beast master then your pet will pretty much always be attacking at a .98 speed, not to mention focus dumps and family skills. They are GOING to dodge some where in there, and they are going to take a massive bite to the face when they do.
I can confirm at 30, 65 at Bor’s Breath Skoll spawned. Tamed him just now on Chromaggus, around 5:40 server time. :D

I’ve seen pvp hunters gem little bits of hit rating though – including the bonuses on titanforged mail peices. I’m not saying NO UUUU or anything like that just, I gotta check this out later.
I’m still wondering about the Roar change too: flat 20% reduction from all damage (old) vs. unreliable damage reduction based on the attacker’s crit rating, dropping round 30% damage (unless your a DK or talented/glyphed to increase crit damage) on some attacks (the criticals) and about nothing absorbed from dots… Cooldown change is negligable to me because skirmishes tend to end quickly and start up about once a minute or two anyway, so it’s generally always going to be there as a desperation. No loss to base damage all around still seems to be pointing toward a nerf…
It was a nerf, and fair sized one all around. I won’t even bother taking this talent now, whats the point? Yes, one target is immune to critical hits, but your pet eats 30% of ALL DAMAGE DONE ANYWAY. I won’t say it’s pointless, but it’s pretty close. Even considering the worst case scenario of being hit by a really big critical and having it nulled, you still have the entire rest of the damage coming your way. All in all it’s just further bad pet design on Blizzards part.

pft I don’t need to gem for hit in my pvp gear unless they changed it, just logged on now and I have a 323 hit rating :/ if you’re gemming for hit rating for pvp armor than either the armor is the wrong kind or I dunno what, but I don’t have to gem for hit in pvp.

Then they changed it where I couldn’t even start to make a macro to save my friends from being squashed [as they're balance droods and they squish sometimes], then I was disgruntled at the change but hey, it let me tank the tiger boss and the male troll add! pewpewpew crap pulled aggro off of Erebus ROS!!!! then it was crap crap GUYS A HEAL [mean I just stack stam not dodge].
But now?
Plz unhook RoS from [Wild Hunt?] and put it stand alone somewhere else. I mean the -crit thing is GOOD. RoS? Not so good.

I think pets lost hit points, pre patch I was sure my devilsaur Jareth had 14k hp, now he has around 12k, not sure if it’s because wild hunt is possibly pulling it’s infamous I WORK I DONT I WORK I DONT.

ahh they changed RoS dmg 2 nature so that it can b further mitigated with AotWild :) thx blizz
