PTR 3.2: Skoll – Wolf or Spirit Beast? [Updated]
[Update] And the answer is: Spirit Beast! More details at the end of the post.
Commenter Clawclaw pointed us at this post on the MMO Champion forums about a new Northrend beast named Skoll that was found on the PTR in the Snowdrift Plains.
Skoll is … well, as you can see here, he’s an ice-blue worg with built-in lightning bolts which are constantly flickering about his body. (Even with the model viewer it was hard to get a pic that does justice to the lightning.)
We don’t have a lot of information on this creature yet. Skoll is described as a neutral (yellow dot) tameable rare. Unfortunately the only in-game screenshot shows him dead already so we don’t have confirmation that he can be tamed.
And assuming that he can be tamed, we also don’t know for certain which pet family he might be in. Yes, he is clearly a saberworg … but he is also a neutral rare beast with a spectral look and built-in lightning. It’s not beyond the realm of possibility that he qualifies as our first non-feline Spirit Beast.
What we need most now is data! If you happen to be flying over the Snowdrift Plains on the PTR, keep an eye out for a yellow dot below you — and let us know what you find!
[Update] Commenter Safrienaer (aka Nanyana on the PTR) has tamed one of these bad boys and confirms that they are spirit beasts with the skills Prowl and Spirit Strike. And yes, Skoll keeps his lightning effect when he’s tamed. (You can just see the lightning around his ears in Safrienaer’s pic.)

That is one sexy beast. I truly hope it’s not an exotic (sorry BMs). I’m really not impressed with the wolves we have at the moment, and I would love to have a badass looking one like this for raiding. Curse you Blizzard for promising to leave the ghost wolf and then going back on your word!! *grumble grumble*
ZOMG! What a pretty wolf that is. I’m kinda hoping it -is- a new spirit beast, actually. It’d be nice to have the option to have once that ISN’T a glorified cat. I mean, it’d be nice if it were a wolf, too, I guess, but…

Ever since we got Gondria I’ve been hoping for some more pet families joining the Spirit Beast group, it’s is Spirit Beast afterall and not Spirit Cat.

To be honest I doubt that is a NORMAL wolf. Lightning Bolts? Glowing paws, mouth, eyes? I think we’re looking upon a new member of the Spirit Beast family, finally. Because think about it; Loque is the mate of a god. STD Cat, from what I’ve seen on her via others running around with them [cheers folks], she’s what a real spirit/ghost creature, not sure, and has this etheral spirit smoke glow thing like Skelly horses and Paladin chargers have.
I just am curious if like Loque Skoll is a Demigod/God animal, and if this means there will be a second non god wolf released later. Or if there are now more spirit beasts.
Ooo, now I’m going to live in the PTR in hopes of finding this beauty!

I just hope we had more info on where exactly he appears. I’ve been flying randomly around Snowdrift Plains and would love some consistency.
Lol, I’ve never been around to look for a new rare on PTR, so I think I’m spoiled. XD
Luckily there isn’t any competition, only four other people in Storm Peaks and I’m the only Ally Hunter – not counting Horde though, but at least I haven’t seen anyone.
I’ve got a sneaking suspicion that he will be a Spirit Beast. He has a lot in common with the already implemented Loque’nahak and Gondria, and although there is the possibility of it being a first, there are currently no rare neutral wolves among us.
Which brings me to ask myself trhis question: If it is a Spirit Beast, do I end up with all 3 in my stables and get rid of my beautiful new Dragonhawk? And if it does turn out to be a wolf, do I get rid of my life long companion, Freki? Because there is no way I’m not getting this bad boy. Curse you Blizzard, with your infinite amount of glorious new pets, and no stable space to accomodate them! /shakes fist
Considering the similarity in function between spirit strike and rake, and the fact that gondria and loque have prowl, I would hope that if they DO make a spirit wolf, that it has a superior version of howl, rather than the cat skills.
Hmmmm, I’m gonna hazard a guess and say… Spirit Beast. All the signs point to it; Glowy parts, etherial feel to it. Although I’d be more than happy if it was a normal wolf too, means I could take this gorgeous pet with me when I raid.
I’m gonna part a premade hunter in Storm Peaks and camp out for him on the PTR, see if I get lucky, will let you know the results if I snag him.
Hmm since “Prowl” is more of well, a stealth sneaky ambushing skill, maybe the name will change so it will match other form of spirit beasts, cause heh spirits can go invisible… I guess.

*squee!* I just logged onto the PTR to do a quick trip around Snowdrift and io and behold – saw a yellow spot on my minimap. Quick Freezing Trap, start the tame… A Jormungar decided to attack me mid-tame. He would’ve probably wanted to be tamed, too.
So he’s a Spirit Beast who Prowls and has Spirit Strike.

I’m a bm hunter, but i really really really hope this is just a plain wolf and not a spirit beast. spirit beasts are cool and all, but my current wolf does a lot more dps than the spirit beast that i have in the stables. it’d be cool to have an epic looking wolf.

okay, if it is just a plain wolf… my armored wolf is replaced… if it’s a Spirit beast.. I ain’t touching it, unless hunters get 2 more stable slots as well.
I’m going to place my doubts in for Spirit Beast. It seems all Spirit Beasts have prowl, which of course used to be a cat only skill (Until it was replaced by Rake). Since both Loque and Gondria have cat-like appearances, they were given the Prowl ability. However a prowling Wolf would be freaking awesome. >_> Perhaps it’ll have it’s own ability as well. I do kind of hope it’s not a Spirit Beast. =/
Hmm, is it just me or don’t my earlier comments show for anyone else but myself? <.< A couple of hours ago I posted about having tamed Skoll in the PTR, but nobody seems to have noticed it. Do the links I posted keep them from being seen? XD

QQing aside, 99% sure its a Spirit Beast. A Yellow+Rare+No other Wolf glows like that and is neutral Wolf that no other Wolf in the game is=Spirit Beast.

Huh, GL to the people who want to go after him. I’m still very happy with Loque’nahak, and the way the Northrend wolves move bothers me. Skoll is very pretty, I’ll give him that, but my snow leopard is better.

I agree, I find the Northrend wolves pretty awkward looking. They look like they haven’t had a decent meal in ages…
Just cause it glows, doesnt mean it’s a spirit beast. Look at those Zul’drak wolves? They glow, the have fire on their feet, they’re still wolves. But, what *IS* making me think its a spirit beast, is it’s status.

Personally, I’ll be happy either way, Spirit Beast or not. I’m hoping to heck it’s a Wolf though. I know everyone is like “OMG SPIRIT BEAST PLEASE FOR WOLVES” and I know it’s cool, but Spirit Beasts just have such serious lackluster damage and Blizz has no intentions of changing that until Spirit Beasts are more common. Sure, I use my Spirit Beast all the time, but when wolves and raptors do some serious damage compared to my Loque, I switch him out.
So I’m hoping Skoll’s a wolf JUST because I’d like to see an awesome wolf. XD

What I’m wondering is: why does Blizzard make all super rare pets exotic? I really do appreciate them finally catering to our huntery needs, but c’mon. I’d love a pet that’s rare AND that the other two specs can use. In a way, they’re forcing pet collectors and lovers to be BM, and doesn’t that go against everything they’re trying to do with the specs? Just seems kinda silly to me. o_-

Guh. Such a gorgeous pet, and as I am an avid rare collector, I will spend hours upon hours looking for him. And then there goes a third stable slot for a third Spirit Beast. Definitely agreeing with Talaaya about all the new ’super rare’ pets being for BM only as well. With the state the spec is in now, I have my pretty cats out when I run around Dalaran to pass some time, and that’s it. Occasionally they make an appearance when I do dailies, but even then I feel the pain of BM’s lack of damage :[
It would have been interesting to see a completely new wolf model as the Spirit Beast, similar to the way Loque is the only tamable cat with his model. Not too big of a fan of how the Northrend guys run/lope around.
Spirit Beasts are only ‘crappy’ because Blizzard doesn’t realise if they were on par with Devilsaurs or other exotics, they wouldn’t be camped more or less.

The Zul’Drak hounds are different, mostly as they’re creatures that have been hoodooed or whatever by Arthas or his minions or something; the same way the beasts in VH have been ‘dragontouched’. What I -meant- with the glowing is compare it with Loque.
Loque is a demi god basically, or mate of a demi dog. His mouth glows. His eyes glow. His spots glow over half his body. Compare it to Skoll, who shows off these exact same charaistics, PLUS, has lightning shooting around his form! No other pet afaik, outside of STD cat, HAS a special effect like that. Infact this could be -why- they were removed from other pets. It might have been turned into an Exotic only for show trait.
But yeah that’s what I meant with comparing Skoll’s glowing to Loque and STDcat and why I left out the Vargul hounds. [They could just be magic eaters, there's several legends of them, Felpup is based off one too somewhat, not just zergling]

Oh I knew what you meant, and trust me, I do know the lore of most of the animals in the game (I’m a freak like that *cough*. I just meant on the base level of the “special effects”, that it sounded like you meant special effects = spirit beasts. So I just misread and ran with my bad idea. Apologies =)
I’m just glad that Skoll doesn’t use the method of “spirit beast” like Gondria. No offense to Gondria lovers by the way, I just was not impressed with “lets make a cat transparent and aura effects” cause when you do that to one of the oldest models in game, it doesn’t look right (at least not to me).
I do wish I had more stable slots though. If they continue with this pattern of a new SB evvery content patch, I’m screwed before Icecrown D=
Awesome looking no matter what it turns out to be, and if it turns out to be a spirit beast it will be to spirit wolves what loque was to ghost sabers…
While I am fully aware this would entail too much work to implement and will never happen, and smacks of ingratitude and blah blah blah… if I could have my way it would be this: 1) they will be one species that actually has models of many different animals (which may still happen if Skoll turns out to be one) and 2) that they will have spirit strike and something related to the form each one wears i.e. so the cats have prowl, Skoll would have howl, and etc…
That would give you more incentive to camp them than just trying to do the Pokemon thing.
I’m glad there’s a spirit beast that isn’t a cat. I’m glad he’s not just transparent. (Or pink. Heh.)
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… NO raid group I’ve ever been with will even LET hunters have devilsaurs, so they aren’t a “raid viable pet”. No one is willing to endure their hugeness and their tendency to die on every fight thanks to their massive hitbox for the sake of a meagre 50-100 points of dps (which usually doesn’t even matter because the thing is tanking the floor the whole fight).
Both my main raid leader and I use spirit beasts. I much prefer them to wolves (I use one on fights like Heigan where I have to leave it on passive), and they do NOT in any sense do “crappy damage”. The difference between a properly talented SB and a cat/wolf/raptor is a meagre handful of points, and with the ‘improved scaling’ we’ve been promised, is likely to become completely irrelevant.
Of course, as neat as Skoll is, I’m sticking with Loque. I love his unique model, his eerie roar, and the fact that I’m on an RP server and he suits my main FAR more than sparky dogs or pink powderpuff tigers. *sagenod*

Safrienaer, do you have a rough guestimate of where exactly in the snowdrift plains, you tamed Skoll? I’m going to build a spawn map for Skoll.
Tbh I thought Devilsaur hitboxes were for the most part fixed; Jareth is. Only rarely have I seen him acting up, granted I haven’t run any instances for awhile, but as I was saying he only messed up one time in the last few runs I ran, and that was only on my error. If anything the hit box seems to be affecting all pets, randomy. Hell against Ahune Erebus a ‘Hydralisk’ aka hydra crocolisk, when I hit BM in one of our gankings of the seasonal boss, he was tanking Ahune right by my side and I was far from close to the boss.
So really it’s not a Devilsaur problem, it’s a pet problem.
And Rikaku it’s ok, no hard feelings meant, I figured I had goofed up for not explaining well enough that I meant Skoll seemed like Loque- and I doubt STD cat owners will hate you for the comment, one person did name their cat STD basically so it’s all good.
And lastly concerning spirit beasts but, I dislike them again atm. Jupiter is acting up, he won’t path right, he’s starting to pull the good old oh lets stop go stop go stop go stop go to cast spirit strike and it’s like /facepalm.

If it is a spirit beast, then I’m glad they’re adding more… But, at the same time, I can’t help but feel kinda sad about it, because my luck with tracking down the already existing ones has been particularly abysmal.

Oh my god! A spirit beast I finally want!!!!
This is both good and bad. This means I’ll have to camp for him. xD I love him though. I’m not sure if anyone else is aware, but in Norse mythology, Sköll (Old Norse “treachery”) is a wolf that chases the horses that drag the chariot which contains the sun through the sky every day, trying to eat her. Sköll has a brother, Hati, who chases the moon.

Heh to the guys who said “no no, spirit beasts are cats. End of discussion.” on my realm. And personally, I love the way the new worgs look, my favourite pet look in the game! I’m not a fan of the new Howl, and I just love the colour blue..so this pet is dreamy. ^_^ It’s kind of odd..wolves are super-awesome in real life, but I don’t really like the old-style wolf models. These new worgs really float my boat, though, so all’s good. Here’s to more spirit beasts from all sorts of families!
Oh man. I don’t know that I can ignore this SB like I ignored Loq and Gondria. My Corehound might be taking a hike unless we get some more stable slots (oh please oh please, ‘locks get 7 pets why not us???). I would definitely appreciate subbing out Prowl for Furious Howl, so hopefully that’ll happen before 3.2 goes live.

This new wolf is a spirit beast, and what is its focus-dump skill? Claw or bite?
The previous spirit beasts are cat-form and have the same focus-dump skill (claw) as cats. But this new spirit beast is wolf-form. Should he has the same focus-dump skill as wolf (bite)?

Very unhappy that this is a Spirit Beast – I never see my Loque (when I’m Beast Mastery, I’m tanking a lowbie instance or something with my bear), and so I’m running always with my white lion or ghost wolf.
I’ll camp for it anyway, just… is this how the new pets are going to be? Any exotic skins will be Beast Mastery-only? Because, speaking as someone who played all the way from original beta, that would disappoint the crap out of me. I’m fine with them being ultra-super-special-secret rares that only appear on left-handed Tuesdays when the moon is flat and the sun’s shaped like a trapezoid, but let every hunter run with them if they have the luck to see them, please.
Um Nyx, you do remember Aotona is an exotic skin and NOT an exotic, right? Skoll is an EXOTIC for a reason, please, listen. Sure it sounds bad but someone posted the most likely legend this WoW Skoll is based off of, and look at him. Just look. This is past Exotic. If he just -glew- -slightly-, I would have had doubts of being a spirit beast. But no look at the glow on him, it’s the exact same as Loque’s, he has lightning flickering about his body. No normal wolf can do that.
If you want the super cool looking pets you’re either going to have to roll BM, if not please stop complaining, BM’s only compensation atm,are shiny pets.
Anyways this made me think of something; guys what if there’s more spirit beasts? Or what if Skoll gets a brother? I don’t remember any Blizz announcing a new spirit beast, there could be more as ’surprises’?

We should have a video up within the next 6-8 hours (taming + action shots). Found him on the 3.2 PTR in the Foot Steppes near Brunnhildar Village, though, not the Snowdrift Plains.
He’s a neutral rare Spirit Beast like Loque’nahak and he has the same basic skills. Until the video is up (I’ll post a note here), you can already find a dozen high-res screenshots (1440×900) of the blue “electric” wolf here (at the bottom of the page):

While I appreciate the condescension, one or two exceptions don’t make the difference. And you know what? BM should be unnerfed and it should go back to being a reasonable damage spec with proper pet management. It’s not then especially fair to rearrange a mechanic that’s been in place since old Azeroth because there’s no other bone to throw to Beast Mastery hunters. You know what’ll happen? I’ll tame this, because I have dual specs, and then it can sit around in my stable because I run 5-and-25 man instances and don’t have the inclination to be doing 500 less DPS with a really cool pet skin. Great. We can all go back to having cats, so Beast Mastery hunters can feel special.
Hunters have been camping rare spawns with funny skins long before this expansion and the daft “exotic” game mechanic. Bring it back to the old-school game, where the only obstacle was your patience and how long you were willing to wait for the mob to spawn.
LOL I wonder if my pet will have to be renamed… I named my Vargul Blighthound Skoll after the wolf that chases the sun gods in norse mythology (no doubt what this spirit beast is reference to)
Nyx, tbh now you just sound like someone doing the Sour Grapes ploy. If you’re not going to use it, if you’re not going to appreciate the pet. Why tame it? Why waste someone’s chance of getting it, just because you’re feeling sore that BM got a SPECIAL SKINNED BEAST. This is NOT like the old world rares, like Lupos and Brokentooth. Those animals are just the same as the rest, these are DIFFERENT. And NOT all the rares are exotic, and besides, as I said, at the moment BM compensation, are these rare special pets.
I don’t complain when people have ghost wolves. I don’t complain when ally can tame a soon to be retired dragonhawk. I’m not complaining I missed out on it and Gezz.
So please can you not rain on our parades just because unfortunately, SV and MM don’t get shiny special pets too?

for now I will wait to see if the sunreaver’s dragon hawk in my stable changes to its new armored skin and then I will decide.
A spirit wolf!!! YAY!!! I am happy that they’re adding a none-cat one to the family…hmmm if they have two cat models, and now a wolf…if they come out with another wolf…maybe they’ll be making 2-models per family for the spirit beast family. conspiracies aside :P

I can understand why people would want another wolf but I’m glad he’s a Spirit Beast – it never sat well with me that the only two Spirit Beasts were cats.
This makes me wonder though… will they add a ghost wolf in the next patch as a 4th SB? Would make sense in some way…

Spirit beasts are lovley and this one is a welome addition but the damage is poor for an exotic I really hope Bliz scale them up as they are a nice size to take into an instance. At the moment my spirit beast is really only coming out for my dailes as the poor dps of BM means MM or Suv for instance runs. I cant afford a vanity nerf on top of low BM damage ^_^ All the same I love my gondria especially enraged just looks evil!
I go BM whether outside or inside raids, I don’t care who you are, I always rock the DPS meters, and this guy will hopefully help me out.
As promised, the ‘Skoll’ video (taming + preview) is now online. I found him on the 3.2 PTR in the Foot Steppes near Brunnhildar Village, though, not the Snowdrift Plains. This is apparently a 2nd spawn location.

A video of this beauty would be very nice, and please please please add combat sounds to it. Half of the pet families are added to or removed from my favourites list because of their sounds. Spirit Beasts are not just great lookers, but the sound department also did a wonderful job with those deep growls.
Hats off to whoever made this little beauty… the only Northrend wolf I would even think about taming (like so many others I hate the eternally starved look of the saberwolf model).

Cat SBs have prowl, spirit strike, and CLAW
Wolf SBs have prowl, spirit strike, and ? (bite or howl)?
I would assume bite since claw is a focus dump. But as many have commented, howl would be better.
SO for those who have tamed him on PTR, does Skoll have bite or howl?
At the moment he has (after the taming): Spirit Strike, Claw and Prowl (along with Cower and Growl). This might still change, though, as we are in early beta.
Skoll is really cool; tyvm for the info. Like others, I wish we could have more stable slots – at least as many as warlocks get pets. But further, I wish we could purchase stable slots, like we can with our bank. I’d happily pay gold to be allowed to keep as many pets as I wanted, since there are many different reasons for having various pets, and then so many shiny rares are out there. Because I like to raid and pvp, and collect rares, in order to tame Skoll, I’ll have to abandon a useful pet yet again.(rip Humar) Either that, or I’ll keep only one spirit beast, and that will be Loque instead of this guy.

Warlocks can have; Imps, Felhunters, Succubus, Voidwalkers, and with talents, Felguard.
Hunters now can have up to five pets.
I don’t consider Doomguard, Infernal or being able to enslave other demons as ‘pets’ as they turn around and break my chains faster than I can sneeze and aren’t worth the troubles imo. So er yeah can we stop the ‘warlocks still have more minions then us!’? I know I might have started it; but at the time THEY DID. Now they don’t. Thank you.
If you watch Nobbie’s vid, you can clearly see it still has claw and all the same skills of the current Spirit Beasts.

No, Skoll has the standard roaring/barking sounds of this type of WotLK/Northrend wolves, plus a unique “electricity on fur” sound when you stand next to him ^^

I missed out on the ghost hydra and I’m very sore about it, but oh well. I’m sure we’ll get a hydra eventually. Maybe in the next expansion if there is one.

Yeah, I was pretty sure spirit “beast” meant we’d see a non-cat sooner than later… that said, I’m guessing they won’t use any families outside of the ferocity tree, or at least not tenacity models – even as a semi-corporeal entity, the idea of a stealthing bear/rhino/etc just seems too goofy.
Incidentally this seems like a decent compensation for taking spirit wolves away from us, IMO…
Now I like the static lightning effects, but I don’t know how I feel about the sound. Flapping pets annoy me enough (which make me re-think keeping the sunreaver hawk after all XD) but that lightning might drive me nuts after awhile. Hmm I’ll have to think about this guy XD
The sound volume of the above video is pretty loud, so the lightning effects are actually very acceptable ^^

The sound of the lightning is very low, you’ll barely hear it. I only turned up the volume of the vid so you can hear the lightning clearly.
Holy mother of… I can’t wait for the patch. /kicks out Loquenahak from the stables.
I can tell the sound is actually loud. i could tell when the person casted Eyes of the Beast, but the lightning effect is as clear as bell chimes to me even when I turned my sound down to compensate what would be the level of sound I use.
The slightest sound, like Core hounds with a flickering fire effect, or flapping wings, or lions yawning all the time, drive me bonkers. I would love to get this wolf, and I probably will. But I’ll probably stable him for Loque since I know that one is silent XD
So basically another badass pet that I get to look at in my stable since BM is a Joke Spec right? Bummer but cool…
YESSSS! Finally a wolf skin to tame in rememberance of my lost puppy Xena. Some of you may recall my post of my search for a ghostish puppy to tame and name after her. Skoll is deffenatly worthy of being named after her.
I think i just died a little inside, unlike the opinions of most ive always liked the northrend wolf model, and this is iceing on the cake! (and ive always wanted a SB wolf, grimtotem spirit guide ftw) However i cant let my DPS suffer for the sake of aesthetics…and i dont have the money for duel spec…i suddenly regret spending 2kg on making my twink the best it can possibly be lol
I gotta say I really like the shooting electricity on this new Spirit Beast. I might Tame this. But it’d really put me off if it barking “vocals”. I hope it keeps the “deep voice” that Loque’nahak has. I’d love different, additional Spirit Beasts. Preferably an albino (I adore albinos!) Spirit Beast(s).
as a bm hunter i know we have a tough time putting out the dps these days… however, i’m stubborn, this bm of mine was primarily a farming toon, though over time i’ve found i’ve really enjoyed playing her… a couple of days ago i lucked out while lvling one of my first pets Mazzranache (i love it, how humiliating when you get your butt whooped by a p*ssed off looking pink ostrich) in zul’drak while killing the air elemental elites around the one altar and i stumbled across Gondria, i knew about this gorgeous spirit beast for awhile now and had spawn points marked on my cartographer but figured i’d never have the luck and assumed it would be severely farmed as loqu was…
Skoll would make a nice addition, but to me it really depends on what tree it falls under, i already have 3 ferocity pets… if blizz would make more stable slots it wouldn’t be an issue… regardless i’ll try my hand at farming him if it ever hits live.
I really dont get people who sit there and complain “I WANT THIS SO BAD BUT BM SUCKS SO I CANT GET IT I’D BE SO HAPPY BUT IT RUINS MY DAMAGE”… like, seriously, if its the coolest pet on earth to you, just get it :S who cares if your not max dpsing, its not like people praise you for it, they just compete with you, everyone trying to have the biggest epeen. I know a common reply to this is “but i wont get in raids and i wont get gear” .. gear for what? gear so you can get more gear to max your dps further for…what? I could understand getting gear to look cool, then once you get it change to BM and get your dream pet, but just trying to be like everyone else and max dpsing and making yourself miserable is silly.
Sorry for the rant, I just have a friend who’s all about max dps and shes miserable playing because she hates her pets she has to use and hates her spec, yet does it anyway because people put out this mentality that if you dont max dps, your a loser or a noob and its just stupid
So everyone out there, just do what makes you happy and tame your lightning wolf!
The “do what makes you happy” policy is a good thing to remember, as it’s easy to get caught up in the arms race. But to be fair, while some people go after better gear for the addiction of getting better gear, many also want to get into raids to experience the game content and story (I’m still saddened that the most important conclusion to the Burning Crusade storyline was barred to all but the most powerful guilds).
Having said that, if anyone loves this beast so much, then saving for dual spec should seem a small price. Use BM for solo play and enjoy the pet. And I have BM friends who have no trouble raiding with their guilds in that spec… not all guilds are that brutal or competitive and they still do well in Ulduar!
i agree, after all, we do pay to play, why pay to make yourself miserable in a spec you don’t like just to have access to the phatter lewts?
that and as bm, especially at this point in the game, i’ve found that people aren’t as strict with who they let into the raids these days as long as you know how to play your character(s) and have a relative knowledge of the pulls. And i know people complain that PUGs suck, but if you’re in a casual guild that doesn’t raid all the time you find yourself having to resort to these, and really it’s not that bad, of course you find yourself in bad groups now and then, but generally speaking the overall successes out-number the fails. not only that but it’s a great way to get to know other players on your realm.

That’s actually why I switched to a Northrend wolf for my dwarf. It’s all ragged and shaggy and Norse-looking.
Skoll is incredible though, I might have to finish leveling her to 80 so I can try for him.
Congrats on the Sexy spirit beast tame. now, only if i can get him since all spirit beasts on my server is scarse and all the alliance Bm hunters and a few horde Bm hunters have them but me.
I had just tamed Gondria with my Hunter… but I may have to replace her with this one. The lightning effects are to die for.
And I have been a BM Hunter since I started playing the game (I just recently got Dual Spec, and use Marksmanship for groups without another MM in them), and I don’t think that the “BM Hunters have crappy DPS” is well-founded at all. My DPS is usually well up with the other MM and Survival Hunters in my guild (which is a raiding guild), so I don’t see much of an issue with being BM. BM DPS is going to be boosted slightly with the patch, though, as Kill Command can have a 30 second cooldown with Catlike Reflexes, which will help. That’s just my two cents, anyway.
i hope they make Spirit beast raptors and wind serpents, i think those would look the coolest, rhinos would be pretty sweet too.
This wolf is attention catching.. I know that you all… are sick of Cats.. but they must make a fire-elemental lion.. as a Spirit Beast! with a blazing fire as his mane..! Whaddya say? You guys know it would be awesome!

I’ve only just this second found out about this, and omfg.. I actually need this pet.. I’m a sucker for rares etc and bagged myself Gondria as a server first tame on Agamaggan, but my god. I actually NEED this pet!! Have just been pacing back and forward in my kitchen waiting for the PTR to load, to no avail. Looks like I’ll be waiting on 3.2 hitting Live for my chance to tame this beautiful demon!

Just wanted to throw out my own 2 cents on the ‘Do What Makes You Happy’ topic. :) I wholeheartedly agree with that statement!
When I started the game I chose a hunter for my main character because I loved the whole idea of them. I’m a big animal lover in real life, so the Hunter class suited me perfectly. I tamed the pets that I wanted to, the ones that I loved. I didn’t care if they ‘weren’t the best’ for levelling or raiding. It was all about aesthetics for me. :) Same thing goes with my talents. I’ve always been a BM hunter…since day 1! And I’ve never switched. I liked the idea of focusing on your pets, and again…this is my game, I’m paying for it, and I’m playing what I want to. Regardless I’m still in a great guild that raids. We may not be up to Ulduar or anything, but I’m sure we’ll get there someday.
I’m not overly concerned though. I hate when people come up and tell me that my Talent tree sucks, or that I should have put point in this or that. Not everyone’s obsessed with being the best DPS. Mine is still fine, I know it’s not epic raid worthy, but it’s not shitty either. I’m not going to change my character to suit someone else’s idea of the perfect play style.
Enjoy the game your own way, otherwise why play?

For the record, I never called anyone an idiot over it. The first two spirit beasts were both cats with cat looks and prowl, which is a cat ability. *shrugs* It was just logical that they’d all be cats’. Chain’s been broken now though, so we’ll see where it goes.

I saw that “do what makes you happy” line, and I completely agree. Hell, even before Wrath when alot of pets sucked, I tamed a sporebat and went everywhere with it because of looks, and before Wrath sporebats couldn’t even learn a skill like bite.

I just got Skoll today on the ptr, 10 am pacific. I was hoping I would see it on the ptr and tell myself that I did not need another spirit beast but here we go, I know where my hunter is going to be parked when 3.2 hits!

I’m not on your server but I can tell you how I found my Gondria. Providing you know where all the spawn points are you can go by the steps up close to Zim’torga. On the huge pillar on the right (when you are facing the stairs) You can fly up to the top of it and use eyes of the beast to look at all the spawn points for it. Just make sure your terrain distance is set to max~
I sure hope that Blizzard AVTI makes up for teh Worgen mistake and gives hunters a realy cool pet aside from a Spirit Beast.
Cross your fingers it might just happen. But rest assured the they are no worse than the company the has teh distribution rights in China, cuase they sure make dictatorship decisions.
wantwnatwantwantwantwantwant i don’t freaking care if i don’t use him in raids, i dont care if hes in the stables a good bit of the time, he looks BADASS!! while everyday i pray that they let non BM’s get a skill or something where you can get them to or that they just go for broke and make all beasts tameable for all specs, I WILL STILL HAVE THIS WOLF. as to how the NR wolfs look as i believe they look half starved for a reason, i mean consider this, NR seems to be a place of primal powers and might (best example protodrakes as compared to dragons) and so it makes sense that A) a lot of them are skinny because they don’t eat as well as the rest of the wolves in outland/azeroth and B) they look less refined and more robustly powerful than their counterparts. point being when 3.2 goes live i WILL HAVE THIS PET!

Just tamed Skoll on Darrowmere server at approximately 29,63 in Storm Peaks. Shows as yellow, 80+.
Skoll is mine, got up before work this morning at 2:55am pacific, and tamed him at the 45,62 spawn point. I’m almost positive he shares spawns with the other 3 rare elites in the zone; Dirkee, Vyragosa, and the Time Lost Drake. I think they may have changed it to let two of the rares spawn at a time. A hunter I talked to who had the Time Lost Drake claimed he killed it the same time last night I killed Vyragosa.
i’m getting Skoll and Loque’nahak :3 yeesh stop complaining on how there arn’t many pet slots in the stables if u want him u want him if u don’t u don’t yeesh >.< BM hunta goin PvP don't complain that BM sucks for everything like my brother does ppl can spec wut they want… only getting Skoll and Loque cuz i want to keep my rare cat duskstalker niknamed Dusky :3

Found Skoll (the new spirit wolf) yesterday in the southern part of Snowdrift Plains, just sitting there waiting to be tamed. Makes up for the long hours of searching for Loque.

So I tamed Skoll my problem is that he has less paper doll dps than my normal wolf. Same spec same lvl.. can someone explain ???
I tamed Skoll yesterday (august 20th) at 11.35 in the morning on Terrokkar server at the spawn location in Bor’s breath . There’s a map for his spawn locations on http://www.HuntsmansLodge.com there are 3 locations known so far and he walks about at 5 places (including the 3 near Brunhilldar village) I know that he spawned 3 times at the excact same time as when I found him at the excact same place but almost every time there was a 12-48 hour respawn time so i waited two days every time I heard he had spawned somewhere. I hope I can help another hunter with this bit of info.
yes, this beast is tamable, i saw a hunter in dalaran with one, immediately after i searched for more info.
Just to let you know i tamed skoll today, this is one very happy hunter :) only been looking for him for 3 days, and i beat 2 hord hunters to him.
