GC on Additional Pet Scaling

The PTR notes for Patch 3.2 mention that starting with Patch 3.2, pets will benefit from their master’s resilience and spell penetration, spell hit chance, hit chance, and expertise.

Previously, however, Blizzard had stated that they’d like to make pets scale with a whole host of stats, not just those few. So what happened? Ghostcralwer posted a clarification today on the Damage Dealing forum:

We would still like to improve pet scaling for things like haste, armor pen and really just about everything. Resilience and spell pen were the two that seemed the most important so we tackled them first. The way this data is handled in WoW is a little complicated (you’ve got something that isn’t a player being affected by player spells, as well as having spells of its own) so the changes aren’t trivial. We’ll try to get to as many as we can for 3.2.

We’ll just have to keep an eye on the ever-evolving list of changes in Patch 3.2 and see what makes it in!

Maybe pets will be a little more viable as pvp attackers and generalls be a little more functional now? We’ll see.

Pets of course need to scale more.

BTW, in the thread that Ghostcrawler posted, someone had pointed out that Rhino’s stampede is inferior. Not only Rhinos, but Boars are also inferior.

I have some ideas to improve Stampede and Gore. Rhinos and boars have the same charateristics that their abilities should both benefit from charge.
Firstly, I proposed that both stampede and gore will have 100% chance to crit within 6 seconds after charge (instead of double damage).
Then one ability can be “stacking critical chance”, ex.:
Gore: Gore enemy for XX damage. If this attack is not critical hit, the critical chance of next special ability will increase 6%. This will last 12 seconds or until a special ability crits (a crit will reset the buff), and stack 5 times (30%).
The other may be a “expose weakness”, ex.:
Sampede: A critical hit with stampede will expose enemy’s weakness, that increse the pet and its master’s AP against that enemy.

I have no access to US forum. May someone please help me to post these ideas in US forum.

I am a little curiouse as to why spell pen was considered top importance rather then haste or armor.

Warlock pets have benefit of spell penetration more then hunter pets do. and I do beleve hunter pets would do better with haste rather then spell pen..

    Stranger,
Don’t forget that Boars and Rhinos are both Tenacity pets. Giving them “dps” abilities doesn’t seem right. i do think that both pet classe need to be buffed up, but not in the way of dps. I think the knockback ability of Stampede was right on what a Rhino ability should be. but then it was nerfed. I think both pets deserve something along those lines, but dps abilities. Otherwise, you will have a comminity full of whining hunters crying that their favorite Tenacity pet didn;t get a dps buff.

Give back Rhino’s knock back! NAO!!!

Palla is right……. also, what’s the use of having exotics if they are inferior than regular pets… other than a Devilsaur’s massive dps, every other exotic pet went from something “good” to something “blah”…. The bleed thing added to the Rhino a couple of patches ago made no sense if going solo. I feel they’ve become more or less fashion accessory than something actually useful for the tree…. BM was a viable dps choice AND have a good off tank during the BC glory days, now not so much. What good were extra pet points for talents even if your overall dps won’t make the cut in heroics/dungeons/raid? I was finally forced to pay up for dual spec just to actually do good dps as a Survival hunter in heroics and let my old BM main spec be used for farming/dailies/solo runs, etc.

Heh, sorry for ranting….. but again, I think that spell pen don’t make sense to a hunter pet… its more Warlock pet viable since their pet USES mana…. hunter pets don’t.

Several hunter pets will actually benefit slightly from spell penetration because their specials are considered spells. Serpents, Dragonhawks, Sporebats, Nether Rays, Windserpents, Chimeras, Wasps, Core Hounds, Spirit Beasts, and all tenacity pets (thunderstomp) will be able to hit more reliably with their spell based specials.

Will it make a big difference? Of course not. At most, those specials will be worth about 9% of their DPS, which would be less than 1% of our total DPS in most cases. I don’t see a reason to complain though. We’re getting it for free along with pet expertise and pet hit, based on our one stat, hit rating.

This is just something they needed to do first. It’s not done yet. I’m sure our pets will scale with our gear in a very intuitive manner once they get it all in place.

Remember the good old days when your stats didn’t effect your pet whatsoever, they became glorified vanity pets once you hit level 60. We’ve come a long way from there.

WTB correct pet pathing again, Jupiter’s been pathing back and forth when trying to get off SS on a target that should be easily shot, aka it’s just around a corner! Honestly I spent 30 seconds waiting for him to decide to finally come back to me, go up a ramp THEN into a room to eat a raider’s face.

And also when are they going to adress the ‘Cower’ bug? I’ve had it affecting talents ON the pet bar now! I never realised my lowest alt’s crocolisk had bad attitude on automatic again, untill I NEEDED it and oops it’s got the glowy bar and it’s still on cd!

TBH while this is a good change, this is not giving us the survivability we need or the pets the fixes they need.

And WTB RoS for ‘unfixing’. I’ve been abusing it in MGT and ZG, since out of the three of us, my friends and I, I’m the only one who can survive being wailed upon by two ‘raid bosses’, and RoS has saved me when my friends forgot to heal me.. And less crit chance won’t save us in pvp either.

Resilence and Spell Pen were the most pressing? Does anyone else find that a bit odd O_o I mean sure yeah Spell pen for the non-Hunters and Resilence for everyone, but I would think Haste, hit chance, or expertise would be more important then just those two. But maybe thats me XD

Exactly how many of us find a hidden snag here? How long will it take til the pet scaling (once implemented) becomes so “good” and “too much of a good ting” later on that Blizzard will pull another rug out from under us with a crummy excuse? They did that with the exotics, and now look where they are (and where BM went).

double on my earlier post….. just playing Devil’s Advocate here.

You’re right.. Blizzard has a reputation of nerfing us.. lol and yet.. I am constantly battling indestructible, rabid healing machines known as Paladins.. and what’s worse is that if you get the jump on one of these monsters.. they just put on that Overpowered shield that keeps them safe from harm and restart the process to own you all over again.. and yet Blizz claims they are going to balance them.. I seriously doubt it.. Does anyone know why..? Why are hunters being nerfed to oblivion.. they are either nerfing Pets damage (BM) or explosive shots… or giving us limited options in PvP. When will the madness end? does anyone know?
