Public Test Realm testing for Patch 3.1 continues with a new build — build 9722 — today. I don’t see any new patch notes from Blizzard, but as usual MMO Champion has mined the client data for changes. They found a short list of hunter changes including:
Marksmanship
- Hunter’s Mark now lasts 5 min. (Up from 2 min)
Survival
- Black Arrow shares a cooldown with Trap spells.
- Entrapment now prevent target from moving 2/3/4sec. (Down from 2/4/6sec)
- Trap Mastery now increases the number of snakes summoned by Snake Trap by 3/6/9. (Down from 30/60/90, typo)
I’m not able to get online yet, and even if I could I’ve mostly been concentrating on the Argent Tournament. So please let me know if you hear about any other fascinating changes!
Not quite, Grimhawk. In a one on one situation vs. a melee, your absolutely right. However think of it like this: You have a new weapon to deploy against other hunters, casters, and any melee who isn’t focusing on you. It’s like being able to put a higher powered immolation trap on some one up to fourty one yards away. And that, my friend, is no bad thing. If I had a complaint, it would be that that particular talent should be baseline.
As a double, don’t worry. I’ll still be around, and if Blizzard does something outrageous or changes anything major, I’ll pick up a game card and log back in to test it for everyone. I just really need to get away from it for a while, but I am still very interested in helping people out when they need it.
Aww Palla, that’s a bummer to hear. Though, it seems to be a common epidemic these days. My friend list has been dark for quite awhile. I’ve been taking a break from my hunter and partying it up as druid lately, but honestly, 3.1 can’t come soon enough. In TBC, Blizzard was too quick with updates, now they’re too slow!
@ grimlion
The wasp is the minor armor reduction buff, which stacks with the major armor reduction buff, so there is no need to compare them, but for a 25 man raid, with no tanking warriors, the worm will be a better choice for applying the major armor buff, over a dps warrior, due to the threat issue. Whether or not the dps difference between ferocity and tenacity is worth 15% armor reduction is debatable, but i would argue for the extra armor reduction (for one hunter only), unless your raid was really light on melee/hunters.
I should mention that the wasp’s ability also changes from a flat number to 5%.
Palla- are you breaking from mmorpgs period, or intend to dabble in another while vacationing from wow? If it is B, and you find a mysterious one with a great pet system, maybe we can all come bug you when we get frustrated with wow from time to time ;)
I’ve got a small guild that will call and text me to get my butt online for instances, so that keeps me playing mostly.. but the level 80 deadness syndrome seems common. For anyone who cant do regular raiding, there’s just… not much to do, and meaningful challenges are few and far between.
I am playing around with WAR at the moment, but not seriously. Mainly I am trying to get my novel finished, and I hardly ever log onto WoW anymore, and I haven’t actually played in nearly two months.
The pet system in WAR is only medicore at best, but I enjoy the synergy between pet and master there. The goblin squig herder is the most like WoWs hunters, but that isn’t saying much. See, both of the ‘ranged’ physical classes have three options for play. Long range bombardment ((Squig herders have a pet, so this one is classic hunter)), on the move ranged ((Ranged abilities continue to build up or cast even when you move, you can ranged attack on the move)) and melee. Yup, you heard me. Melee. I can’t tell you how much it amuses me to go into the squig herders melee form….you get swallowed by a giant squig, and control it from the inside.
Otherwise, I am poking around some free MMOs trying to find something to pique my interest. I’ll let you know how that goes.
Ihlos-
… i dont see how a worm has major armor reduc… it only maxes at 700-800 where as wasps are at 1200
@grimlion
Worms armor reduction is currently 785ish and stacks 5 times.
On the ptr side of wowhead, but sunder armor and the worms acid spit are 20% armor reduction, and acid spit needs two stacks to reach that number. On the ptr, a wasp’s sting is now 5% armor reduction.
eliminate the word *but* in the second paragraph, for clarity
Palla:
Let me know if you find a good free MMO. I’ve been playing around Perfect World a bit but that gets a bit burned out after awhile. XD
I tagged you again. Sorry. I don’t like it when all you talk about is the PTR. I remember the good old days before patch 3.0.2 hit and your blog posts talked about the new pets coming out. I miss the “Name That Pet” section you had up, too. Don’t know how the comments got out of order, either. It looks funny.
Well Palla, while it will be sad to know you’ve left the comunity WoW-wise, I understand when breaks are needed. And as a fellow writer too [8D] I hope you get that novel finished.
And many thanks for the debates, the pally tank tree and for not leaving Petopia too.
Late responce is late.
Edit: /doh
Also thanks guys for the screenies, and gotta say, shine or not that is a NICE look for the Emperor Cobra- and makes me curious if it’s just that skin or the skin in ZG too.
You know paticular mob or the whole skin.
Oh don’t worry Ryai. If there is one thing you can always depend on me for, it’s to be my normal ornery, debating self.
Ryai:
Just about *anything* with a metallic sheen. Stormwind Horses’ armors do it, Dreadsteed armor does it. Cursed Offspring, Serpents, etc. It’s the “effect” added ontop of the skin (which is ontop of the model) that’s bugging out.
That’s too bad. I kinda like the tarnished metals, but sounds like it won’t make it live.
And are you serious about the 5% flat rate to wasps? That’s awful! Considering the 5% would only benefit bosses with massive armor, and when you’re fighting them, you generally have a Druid on the team too, so that seems like another strait up nerf to me…
Dead serious about the 5%
If you look at it from a percentage perspective, the maximum armor of acid spit was 3925, sting 1260, or 32%. Now its 25% of acid spit. In relation to acid spit it lost ground, but both skills gained something valuable, scaling. I know the armor values have been well known at least at one point so i think ill have to dig around a bit and see what i can find on whether this is an initial nerf or not.
Mmmm, I actually like the Kaiserkobra skin-type-thing. It’d be nice if they started introducing more dynamic, interesting skins like that. Or even better, different models for serpents. I love the very Word ‘serpent’, so I guess it may just be me.
I was kinda hoping there’d be this whole thing about world environ-based pets. I.E., Regular raptors for the two Vanilla continents, those armoured raptors for poor ruined Draenor, and some new refreshing reptilian raptor-type pet for Northrend. But I suppose that’s being optimistic. May not even make sense, considering they may be considered ectothermic beings..Northrend cold an’ all that..sure they could make it work..-rambling mumbles-
As for me, well..I never really made it to 70, just sort of an alt-itis type thing. And I play BM, simply because the pets half-way make the class, for me. So the technical details escape me, and I’ve never actually been on a raid. Far be it from me to sound pretentious, but I say only traps should share the trap cooldown.
Palladiamors, I’ve seen you around here quite a bit, glad to hear you’re staying here at least. Hopefully you’ll eventually make your way back to WoW. May I suggest an alt someday? :P If not, oh well, I’m glad to have had you here, though we’ve never spoken. By the way..Palladia – Mors, or Palla Dia Mors? Nice name in any case. -grin-
Yarrr,Palladia Mors. The translation was, I think, Pale death, and sometimes I toss on Deus for Pale death god. Course I could be wrong….I still like the way the name sounds.
I have alts, Jenata. *laughs* Seventy Druid, seventy three warlock, seventy five paladin, seventy eight death knight, seventy warrior, fifty four shaman, fourty eight shaman, fourty two paladin, fourty five rogue, fifty nine death knight, fourty hunter…….none of them hold any joy for me anymore, at least not for now. And be assured I have a myriad of other little alts running around, including a hunter of every applicable race. I may not feel like playing any more, but that doesn’t mean I don’t feel like talking to my friends here, and trying to assist in what way I can, and I don’t mean I am done for good, yarrr. But thank you for your well wishes, I appreciate them.
I have alts too- alot of alts. Hellscream is full of ten, from lv 2 to lv 80. And hellfire was invaded and a few other realms..
Anyways Palla, with what you’re saying it sounds like you’ve just wowed to much and need a break, as you said. I get like that and usually focus on other things or browse the web or read or watch things that make me laugh my rear off.
But as I said when you need a break take it for aslong as you want- and the prot tree you gave me is a godsend, as even if it’s not 3.1 yet, rerolled from ret to prot as I’ve gotten him up to 56 and when we hit 60, my friends and I are gonna do the charger quest :D
YES THIS HAS NO MEANING TO WHAT THE TOPIC WAS ORIGINALLY.
I blame icecream.
Looks like petopia caught fire again…
Thanks, Saranette — I’m on it.
