PTR 3.1 – Yes, There is a New Spirit Beast
A new Spirit Beast has been found on the 3.1 Public Test Realms.
His name is Gondria: he is a Spirit Beast in family, he is Exotic and uses the Ferocity tree, he is a rare elite, he knows Spirit Strike, he looks a bit like a cat — and he doesn’t look anything like Loque’nahak.
And no, I didn’t find him. :> BRK posted about Gondria early this morning (and gave me a head’s up around the same time), but I was deep asleep. It looks like Gondria was found by Wowhead user flatty and first reported there. You can check out all the info yourself on the Wowhead forum thread — including a map of the only spawn point we know so far.
(My thanks also to all the readers who e-mailed me to make certain I’d heard about this new find!)

YAY! A new Spirit Beast was certainly needed and much wanted. <3
But I kinda wish it wasn’t a cat… not that I have anything against WoW cats – I just wish there could be other pets with a Spirit Beast form…
/Crosses fingers for wolf Spirit Beast/ <3
It’s a shame that blizzard didn’t put much effort into making another Original spirit beast. they just took the winterspring saber and made it transparent. *sigh* I’m disappointed :(
Thank god, I still can’t find Loque despite my efforts. :( Is this mob rare, also?
yay! new spirit beast! not as awsome as loque though oh well to bad it wasent a warpstalker or somthin ;)
Lunayoshi:
Yes this spirit Beast is Rare as well, he spawns in Zul’Drak.
Too bad it wasn’t a different Spirit Beast model (like one like Loque only black instead of white). I like Loque’s model alot better as a SB.
If these guys were cats tho, I’d be all over that.
I updated the post to include the fact that he’s a rare elite.
hopefully he only has one spawn area so there isnt any circling… takes too much time on a reg flyer
BRK says he tamed his at 69, 48 — which would give us at least two spawn points.
Gah, plz not too many spawns… luckily if he still exists come Patch day i’ll have a reason to start questing in Zul’Drak xD
Yay I can’t wait to tame it on my hunter Mew! She’s already got Loque whom I named Shiva, I think I might name this one Raidne :3 can’t wait to hunt it!
Yaaaaaay and Booooo….
Yay)
For a new Spirit Beast that is rather sexy IMO. I’m glad Blizzard is living up to this promise of adding more beats to this rather interesting family.
Boo)
For the fact that I am a little disappointed in blizzard for the
/copy model, /paste model, /edit opacity. And of the screen shots that appeared on MMO earlier of this beauty, I really did prefer the blue, or even white model over the purple one, but that’s just me ^^
I’m not alliance, but this would look great with any alliance players who have the winterspring mount to go with this.
@ Tillamooke
I too am a hordie, but I have been lucky enough to pull a Spectral Tiger out of a pack of cards. But for me, the blue one would be absoultey purrrrfect! Or yes, Gondira’s purple and the allys wintersaber mount. Thats if your into the whole matchy matchy thing, which honestly, I can’t help myself :D
I figure’d it’d be apparent by this point that spirit beasts would use cat or cat like models. What is disappointing is that they just reused another cat model, and didn’t recolor a Lo’ version. And having it be rare AGAIN is more then a little annoying.
Mmm… I like Loq’s look better. This one is too much like a normal kitty for my taste.
Yay for another spirit beast…but damn…yet another cat model…and rare, and old model new skin…why not just make the spirit beast spirit cats…thats all it is now…
Again with the rares grrr… I still haven’t got Loque.. maybe i can at least get this one… or maybe Loque since maybe more will camp him an not the one i really want..
i’m fine with the rare elite. just add a spirit wolf and a spirit bird of some sort (eagle would be best, but even a plainstalker giant chicken would be awesome). at least, something non cat. i love cats in real life, but just don’t dig them on my hunter.
Yeah, they really should implement other beasts into the spirit beast family. Otherwise change the name to spirit cat or something, I mean really. Then again, this is the PTR, could this be a placeholder model?
Even though I do have Loque, I’m disappointed as well that this is another spectral kitty. I was also hoping for wolf or bear or I don’t know, something neat and not cat-like.
It almost feels to me that somebody at blizzard absolutely loves cats and can’t get enough, so we get cats and more cats.
And, before anyone blasts me about cat hating, my main pet on my 80 hunter is a frostsaber pridewatcher that I’d had since level 59. I love kitties, but even I’m getting a little sick of them.
Ryno? I highly doubt it. If its showwing up as is… that’s going to more than likely be the model we see come live.
I’m starting to sound like a broken record here, but….
So much for the idea that each Spirit Beast was going to be an ethereal version of every other pet family. A Spirit Bat would of made my week.
They need to name the family Spirit Lazy Ass Cat Palette Swap and be done with it, already.
Its also possible that this model is a placeholder for a new model (possibly a loque recolour) that they’re still working on. just a thought
Just a thought about the spirit beasts all being cats…
their other ability, besides spirit strike, is prowl, so it’s not very likely they will have anything but cat-like spirit beasts unless they change that.
Seriously tho, I LOVE the pride watcher model, but the thing I like best about Loque is his unique skin, & I really wanted another like that. Also, not being a rare spawn would be really helpful /shakefist @ blizz
p.s. going on more than 3 months on Loque-search, & still havent seen so much as a whisker. :( would really love a sympathetic fellow Gilneas alliance member giving me some kind of heads up if anyone sees him. /w Kelesaria if anyone wants to help save a hunter’s sanity…
Looks a bit like a ghost saber on steroids…hurray
THIS IS MADNESS.
No. really. I mean it looks nothing, like a spirit beast. It’s a cat. Made invisable. How does that qualify as a spirit beast? Harkoa’s mate, Loque’Nahak [tho 'rp wise' I have it as a purified child on my hunter] is basically a demi-god animal, explaining why it is a ’spirit beast’, going by this reasoning there could MORE animals in this family, including dragonhawk’s, bears, devilsaurs/raptors, lynxes, serpents…
So instead of using a little bit of creativity, Blizzard took a Ghost Saber and gave it steroids.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I LOVED the models when they first showed up. I would have LOVED the white or blue one- mostly the white as the riding skin model is NOT tameable, even tho there is ONE in existance [in Darn], and I’d gladly haul my ass into ally territory to tame that. On any of my hunters.
But to turn a CAT into a spirit beast, just because the current Spirit Beast is a CAT is not pleasing for me- as said it’s Spirit BEAST. Not Spirit CAT. Beast can be used for cats- but it usually denotes beasts, not just of one family.
/rant
And … anyone else think it’s name sounds like an STD?
Me just now:
I hope all the mist tigers get in, lazy or not they do look nice :( But as Spirit Beasts? Makes no sense as they’re practially ghost sabre made big. C’mon placeholder I’d love a bird of death.
Edit: Btw as much as I hate it- if it does go live I won’t kill if I see it, I’ve asked the same of my guildies to spare Loque and Krush [soon to be Aotona] when/if they see them. So anyone wanting to tame it can have a shot on my realm if I’m in the area on any alt.
Stupid achivements.
> And no, I didn’t find
> him. BRK posted about
> Gondria
True story: BRK posted about it after *I* sent him the link to my post on WowHead. Don’t want to be boring, just giving credits to myself being the first time in my WoW “career” I find something no one found before ;-)
Ah, yes — that would be why the next sentence is: “It looks like Gondria was found by Wowhead user flatty and first reported there. You can check out all the info yourself on the Wowhead forum thread” …
I also believe in credit where credit is due. Good job! :>
Me has new spirit beast now, too ^^
Spawn location for me was at 62/62 between Zim’Torga and Har’koa’s Altar. Taming video should be ready later today.
PS:
Regarding the comments about the look of the new spirit beast: Yes, Loque does have a brand-new, very cool skin. But hey, this ia true *spectral tiger* at your command now – that isn’t too shabby, ey? Plus, Gondria definitely looks more spirit-/ghost-like than Loque.
@ Mania
Touche, I completely missed that. /apologize
Underwhelmed. If I wanted a transparent cat, I would let Prowl “work as intended” on a ghost saber. I was rather hoping that we would see the other spirit beasts be the mates/offspring of the other animal gods encountered in Zul Drak during that excellent quest chain. (It was excellent because it actually held my interest all the way through)
But I guess I had set my sights too high. If anyone doubts the cop-out that is Blizz’s “Cat Affair” feel free to review the historical uberness of cats as raiding/pvp pets and count the number of models of cats vs. any other two families. But I’m sure everyone knows this by now.
That Gondria is now a different model raises an interesting question: What is a ’spirit beast’ by Blizzard’s definition? Maybe it’s not just Har’koa look-a-likes, or cats in general, but any beast in the game which is blessed with some kind of spirit?
It’d be an interesting idea to have unique, spectral beasts of all types like bears, raptors or even spiders in the game, so that everyone can pick his favorite.
It’s nice, but I already have Loquenahak and I’m not about to add another cat to my stables, after adding Rak’shiri (/sigh) to my stables a few days ago. WTB more stable slots and spirit beasts in other animal forms. (Cats aren’t the only beasts in the game, ya know?)
Doubles for the win.
Regolith-Oh I would die if they came out with a spirit wind serpent. I would go back to BM and never respec ever again nor use another pet.
Well, this is the test realm, a time for Bliz to test out things, and gain feedback. If there’s enough outcry about the lazy model swapping, they might just oblige and re-do this beast.
I too believe the hunter pet roster is a bit too cat-heavy right now, and they just keep heaping more on. The new wolf models were nice with WoTLK, but how about the bears? Bears have had one boring shitty model since launch that has been re-skinned a few times. I want a new bear model!
Especially annoying since WotLK: The unnatural underbite because they were too lazy to make a new bear ^^
Long time reader…. first time poster….
Lame-sauce…. I want a spirit Bear, or spirit ooze even (I had the ooze… but needed more space in my stable q_q …. wtb more stable slots!). Really, just add spirit kids of all the gods in zul’drak… that would be really super.
Yeah, although a new spirit beast is a great new, the use of an old cat model and just applying “New Paint” is quite dissapointing. Personally I don’t love nor hate cats but I’m in agree with Jash, there are lots of cats. Blizz should try another pet from another family, I do love Birds of Prey and Wolves and I would love to see a Bird Spirit Beast
Well, this Spirit Beast looks cool, buuuut I think I prefer Loque’nahak tbh… :/
Personally I love that model, but wish they’d update the skin. I’m slightly inclined towards skins that match my mount, so when I mount up it looks like I’m riding off on my pet.
I get the feeling that Blizzard considers Spirit Beast to be the Cat form of exotic. Exotics seem to be paired with a regular pet, (e.g. Devilsaur and Raptor) which is a bit less powerful (or not depending on blizzards balancing abilities that day).
While I think we might hold out hope for exotics patterned from other pets, I doubt they will be spirit beasts.
Thank You Kindly.
Two words: Ghost Rhino.
‘Nuff said, in my opinion. =o
OK, now they have no excuse not to put the ghost wolf back in the game.
For those who don’t know, BRK posted a video of this little guy in action over at Project Lore. She does look much better in motion, and has some neat swirly ethereal smoke left behind while running…
It’s impressive but….again, too many damn cats! I’d rather have a spirit wolf since LAST YEAR!
After watching a video of Gondria, I’m really not impressed. Doesn’t do the yawn sound with the animation, doesn’t have the spirit beast attack-roar. So other than have ethereal smoke, this old-model just doesn’t beat out Loque.
I honestly think this was just added as a means to make hunters stop whining about Loque being the only spirit beast in the game. But this one is no easier to get. Already he’s got 3 spawn locations found in just under a day. His spawn timer may be easier (or the fact that PTRs arent as crowded as live servers may help), but looping around Zul drak is gonna be just as bad as looping around Scholazar =/ At least Loque has a new model and not an old model with the opacity trick.
Man people need to chill out a bit. We get a new spirit beast and people start QQing Oh Noes!! It’s a spectral tiger! on NOES!!111!!!!
The Spectral tiger is one of the most wanted and highest (Real world) Cost mounts in the game. The card goes for 100s of dollars. People love them. HOW DARE Blizzard produce something that people want and love. HOW DARE THEY!!!!
Geesh. Chill out. Noone’s putting a gun to your head and making you go tame it. Really. If you don’t want one. Don’t tame it. Don’t complain about something that clearly other people want.
As for the ‘Oh it’s just a cat QQ” Again. Get over it. It’s a “Spirit” Beast because it’s ghostly. Ghost… spirit… geist….. what ever. It’s a ghostly cat hince, spirit beast. It shoots he spirit beast laser. Why the complaints? They could have given you nothing at all. Or givenn you a spirit spore bat or something. I swear, some people are not happy unless they’re complaining.
The fact that blizzard IS indeed adding in new pets before the next expansion (( Two rare elites in this upcoming patch alone)) Shows they are still broadening the horizions. Take what they give us and THANK them.. if you keep bitching and moaning they’ll push such things on the back burner and we won’t get them as often.
to tell the truth I am a bit disapointed and a bit relieved and a bit annoyed.
disapointed that bliz broke their declaration that loq was a one of a kind beast- a kind of ultimate challenge to tame. adding another beast to the list-of-one feels a bit like cheating those who worked so hard on loq out of their well deserved credit.
relieved that spirit beast are more accessible even if by a little bit since its an interesting family I am sure many want to try out.
annoyed that the added model is a cat… with no reason yet to believe there will be more kinds of beasts added to the family- if only in shape.
I dont mind the purple color, its nice IMO.
-wit
Witrely:
I don’t think they made Loq anyless unique. Gondria and Loque may be the same family, but they look extremely different. I would feel cheated if they made Gondria look just like Loque, but as it stands I don’t think anyone’s cheated.
Pepsi:
Tbh, I think people would be happier if they did add a Spirit Spore-beast (I know I wouldn’t, I don’t like spore bats, but I digress) or spirit-bat XD
Personally I do not find at all that the model uses the frost saber. I know for a fact there are a LOT of people that do want the spirit beast, but hate the ‘cheetah’ like model Loque uses, that and it’s over all skin. Our guild leader and several other hunters that I know thing Loque looks ugly and or the model looks horrid and is a turn off to them wanting to tame it.
Having a more widly used model also count to the spirit beast will give people who hated how Loque looked a version that they may like.
This also could open up to Blizz briging us even more spirit beasts, perhaps one of each cat model?
WorldofWar.de now have a taming video of Gondria plus screenshots up. Enjoy! :)
Clicky! –> http://wow.gamona.de/2009/03/12/gondria-die-zaehmung-der-neuen-geisterbestie-erstmals-auf-video/
Kai: Er Loque isn’t a Cheetah, it’s a Leopard- yes a distorted leopard but if you look at all the godly animals, they ususally aren’t the same build of normal animals. I mean King Dred is supposed to be a ‘Raptor God’- and it’s a frelling T-Rex.
I don’t hear people complaining about that- and so what if you don’t like the model, then don’t use it. I don’t like alot of models so I either abandon them, or say I don’t like them and don’t use them, I mean no one is forcing you, to use a Spirit Beast- and with the changes to the animals and everything being equal, Blizz probably took away the +10% dmg Exotics can dish out.
Then there’s the fact that BM can nearly make any ferocity pet a force to be reckoned with; Exotic or not.
And to be honest… this really is not a solution- I am NOT saying it should have been the same model as Loque. But this is NOT a Spirit Beast imo, and it is NOT a Spectral Tiger equal. And even if it was a Spectral Tiger equal, I still wouldn’t really willingly dub it a spirit beast- it is just a ghostly Wintersaber.
That got very lost.
This would be an alright normal cat model- it, the white and the blue. But as a Spirit Beast? I’m sorry, it’s not that special. I mean if glowing lazer eyes and ghostly bodies make a beast a spirit beast, then by rights, Hydralisks, Ghostdiles, Ghost Wolves and Ghost Sabers should be Spirit Beasts.
I’m not mad at the fact they are making more Spirit Cats. I am mad at the fact how tacky, lame, and lazy they are going about it.
I mean look at Blackmaw; http://petopia.brashendeavors.net/html/mobs/mob_blackmaw.html
I would consider something like THAT a Spirit Beast- and wouldn’t you rather tame that then a Ghost Saber on steroids, for an exotic?
Make the ghostly cats, cats, so everyone can tame it if they want, and give us some real looking exotic creatures, please. Then everyone is happy.
Arg why was my post slaughtered by moderation? /sigh
/rant
Anyways as I basically said if you don’t like Loque don’t use him, this doesn’t count as a spirit beast imo because if making a cat half invisable with lazer eyes counts as Spirit Beast, then there’s 4/5 existing, retired or not, pets that would count as that.
Damn moderation. Am I really that much of a bad poster here? D:
Ryai:
You’re not a bad poster, we love you here! =D
Honestly, I agree. Looking at this beast, aside from the whole “cat spirit beast” debate, I’m trying to figure out why it’s here. I thought the ghost wolf was removed because it didn’t fit in with the “hunter class”. Yet the Ghost saber remained, and now they added another spectral/ghost beast but clearly meant for it to be tamed. (Not that I mind Gondria being what she is, I’m just thinking logically here.) If this is the case, I want to see the ghost wolves back, just slap on the name “Spectral Wolf” or something.
But this is assuming Blizz is logical, which they haven’t been for a very long time.
Well IMO people are not thinking too logically*. SPIRIT beast. A spirit of a beast. This is what i have imagined when i first heard the name of the family, and when i saw Loque, i was kinda disappointed. I think this is what a real spirit beast it.
Loque’nahak is not, to me, a spirit beast. I can’t figure out a good name for a family that would fit Loque to me, but it wouldn’t be spirit beast.
I think this is what should a Spirit beast be like, and Ghost Wolves could be added in too.
* Back then when Spirit Beasts have not been seen yet, i am pretty sure this is what people imagined them like. I highly doubt anybody would imagine a marble-like cat with glowing teeth, which has absolutely nothing “spiritish” in it.
But that’s just my opinion.
Honestly, I’m dissapointed in the new model- it looks like it’s in perpetual Prowl mode. The reason I loved Loque so much was his highly polished design. This cat just doesn’t do it for me. Less laziness, please, Blizz! We want to see NEW models in the NEW xpac and patch, not tweaks of what we’ve seen many times before!!
I think I’m also another one of the hunters who had been hoping to see a Spirit Beast representative of all non-exotic families.
Pepsi-The problem that people have with the new ’spirit beast’ is that it’s still a cat, no matter how much they dress it up. Some of us are just tired of seeing nothing but cats every time we turn around. (I’m being hypocritical since I have both a cat and Loque, the cat is for min/maxing and the Loq is because it was actually a challenge) Is it so wrong to want something different or are you happy with everyone having the exact same thing?
Well it seems lots of people disliked the new Spirit Beast, I do not hate it just makes me feel quite annoyed that Blizz just followed the easy way to add a new Spirit Beast. But it is not the end of the world, maybe blizz will add more pets and not precisely Spirit Beast. I would like to see new and fresh tameable pets like a mammoth for example they have everything to be a new Tenacity pet or even penquins!!! Just think about it XD!!!
On the contrary, Rikaku, as already stated, a Spirit Bat, a Ferocity Bat with a unique skin, would make my week. It’s been a shame I’ve had to shelve the pet I’ve been using for years thanks to it getting stuffed in the red headed step child talent tree along with a lousy ability for good measure: think of how many hunters would be happy if that could finally pick any pet model with a great set of abilities and arguably the best talent tree of the lot.
Hell, they don’t even have to put much work into it. Set up in various zones a transparent version of several pet families every few content patches, a pretty skin is optional. If you can’t tell from the dozens of posts stating as such, it would make alot of people happy.
Oh. I misread your post. Yeah. A Spirit Sporebat would be pretty awesome, too.
While I think it would be really awesome to have more Spirit Creature Variety (I mean they already have the model for the spirit wolf, they’d just have to put it BACK in game – luckily I got mine already…).
Also this is only the 2nd Spirit Beast they’ve added – perhaps in the future we’ll start seeing non-cat Spirit Beasts.
I personally am just glad to have a ghosty purple cat. It looks like the model similar to the ghosty cats we’re ALL wondering about in Uldar – at least now the one I would have tamed is outside Uldar :).
I mean I’m not into cats but..purple..yea…gotta have Purple!
Volcan:
I can see your definition of Spirit Beast, and I think, honestly, that’s basically what this whole SB debacle comes down too. What *is* the definition of a Spirit Beast?
But personally, I find Loque spirit-based enough without being Ethereal. I mean, his head looks almost hollow (that blue glow pouring out of his eyes and mouth also has some bright blue spots on his head). So Loque does in fact look Spirit ish to me.
The only thing I dont like about ethereal or spectral beasts is, well, their blockiness. The old world models (which this new spirit beast has) is rather blocky, and by being so transparent, it really stands out. Mind you I am OCD, so little things like that bother me (but that’s the main reason I’m glad spirit beasts aren’t all spectral and ethereal). But I still think Gondria is gorgeous.
I think it’d be cool to see some other spirit animals, but like I have stated, I’m not gonna hold my breath for non-feline SB models.
Either way, I’m glad theres more Spirit Beasts for people who don’t like Loque. Personally I love my Loque and I wouldn’t trade him for any other pet here or previous.
*Waves to Ryai*
First off, lemme start by saying that spirit beasts, by all appearances, were animal’s that were stronger then your average beastie. The spirit beast’s of Zul’Drak are all considered gods to the trolls, for example. Loque and Gondria here both exhibit characteristics that place them above ‘normal’. Does that mean that there could possibly be other spirit beasts? Yes. Do I think that there WILL be non-cat spirit beasts? A fervent heck no. This is BLIZZARD. BLIZZARD. If you’ve just joined the WoW party, lemme fill you in. Blizzard will almost alway’s take the minimalist approach to any problem. If it isn’t a huge or major deal, don’t expect it to change any time soon. In fact, it’s only recently that a large number of the hunter problems have been addressed. I am sorry, but if you think Blizzard is going to make a spirit rhino or a spirit dragonhawk, you have another, unpleasant thing coming.
And spirit wolves weren’t removed because they didn’t fit in with hunter lore. That was the story, but my theory at the time, and still today, was because it caused coding issue’s with the shamans summoned wolves. Those wolves are the same model as the spirit wolves, but garner a different amount of stats from the shaman, as well as healing the shaman for damage dealt. If I had to wager, I’d say it was causing some problems in the system to try and have the same PC controlled model do different things. But of course Blizzard would never tell us that. Could you have imagined the outcry of “WTF?!”’s had they of?
Now I wish they would make a Spirit Raptor, using the old style skin as I hate the BC raptor skin. Or a white raptor with skin color like the white cobras. Oh well. Nice to see another Spirit Beast finally. i got very lucky and tamed Loq, but would drop it in a heartbeat for a spirit raptor.
I just wish that they would make BM a worthwhile spec again. I’ve been running tests with Loque on the PTR and basically, except for soloing elite mobs, it’s a lousy DPS spec. It sucks for raiding and it simultaneously sucks and blows for PvP. After all is said and done, we’re still left with one viable spec… Survival.
So even though I’ve tamed Loque, I’ll never get to use him. Sure we can have dual specs, but what is BM for, sitting around Dalaran showing off your spirit beast?
Early on the PTR there was apparently a mistake that gave hunter pets too much DPS. When I was playing, it felt like the old BM. I could actually win a fight against a Pally or Death Knight, or Rogue. I didn’t feel over powered, basically just right. I had the old enjoyment of being able to manage my pet and fight at the same time, the whole BM style of play was back. It was so fun. Then I find the very next day it was a “mistake.”
I should have known that winning a fight in PvP as a BM hunter would have to be a “mistake” as far as Blizzard was concerned.
So back to boring old repetitive OP Explosive shots. Boom boom boom. You’re dead. I’m so leet.
@ Bestiarius; yeah I was figuring the numbers people were throwing out for pets would get nerfed eventually.
And sad fact is, when I rolled Ryai SV on the PTR, blamo, I was out dpsing my 51/20/0 with a hodgepodge of 11/9/51 that I ‘borrowed’ mostly from an SV hunter there, and tested it out and even tho my shot rotation is shakey, thanks to explosive shot and black arrow [I skipped all pvp talents as for the most part I've stopped pvping on Ryai] and the sad, sad fact is, I was doing MORE damaged UNBUFFED than I do WHEN buffed as BM. And this was before I tamed a pet.
So .. I figured… I would.. have to finally give in.. BM will by my guild instance specc [for 'tanking' Strat, ZG, and for the Ravenlord mount] and Surv is gonna be my raiding specc.
I hate you blizzard, I hate you so much.
And yay I am loved.
@ Palla; I know they won’t, and I know they won’t make Hydra’s tameable. But I still hope, because there was still a glint of possibility that other animals could become tameable atleast.
And I’m not really downing Gondria that much- it’s just that the model for a spirit beast is .. tacky. I’m not saying that I wanted another Loque- this is more incase others misunderstand. I’m just saying that Blizzard could have worked on the model, made a new one, maybe make it look like a tiger on steroids that would melt your face with lazer eyes.
Cause I mean while yes it is nice there is another ‘riding cat skin model’, what does this mean for the White and Blue spectral models? Are they too, going to become spirit beasts? Untameable by MM and SV, even tho they look like normal cats for the most part [compare to ghost/spirit wolf/saber], I know I shouldn’t judge by appearences, but I mean look at cats- for the most part there are three models. Cheetah/leopard. Saber lion/tiger and Riding Tiger/lion models.
So just taking a Riding Tiger, making it transparent and putting it ingame as a spirit beast is a bit of a ripoff to people. If Loque is SB’s ‘Cheetah/Leopard’, then Gondria could be an equivalent of ‘Riding Tiger’ model, without being such a rip off and badly renderd model.
But mean if it was a normal cat well hell I might have tamed it on my lil lowbie hunter… well one of them.. if they ever got that high. But to waste a slot for an SB when I really only wanted it on Ryai? And go thru more grief and luck chances for it? No- I’ll let someone who truly desires and yearns for it, a chance to tame.
‘In fact, it’s only recently that a large number of the hunter problems have been addressed. I am sorry’
Along with the ones they’ve yet to fix or admit they caused Palla? :/ was in SM earlier, Aria was helping me level up one of my hunter alts pets via mass smashing humans for exp for my white n black lions. So while waiting for her to come back from an afk moment, I go to loot a corpse that ran into the fountain in Cath I think, and after a few seconds realise poor Chaos is pathing back and forth over the same spot, trying to follow me and failing.
And the GCD bug wwas still happening on the PTR- and I really do think it IS tied to some hunter abilities, sometimes when I shoot AS or SS off, my pet’s GCD will suddenly activate at the same damn time- when nothing but growl is being used. And sometimes when nothing is being used at all.
And the random pet talents turning off don’t seem to be fixed either, offensive abilities keep turning off, the prowl bug isn’t fixed, tho it’s still not as bad as live atm.
I forgot to check before a run in UP and realised Jupiter’s Claw and SS were off, along with Grow, Cower and everything else.
I /facepalmed majorly.
‘I’d say it was causing some problems in the system to try and have the same PC controlled model do different things.’
I don’t think that’s the problem really- mayble slightly.. but not fully, because it wouldn’t explain how the models of the existing spirit/ghost wolves can run around in WoW, and there are bugged pets as it is anyways. Some pets do just act funny and bug. Like the Devilsaur’s, King Mosh, King Dred, Tyrantus[the black 'saur] and King Krush are all proven to have nearly perfect running animations. It can’t be tied to the fact that their large size = ok running when small. Because if that was true when Cherry, my belf’s saur grows in size, it should run too. It’s the coding for the mob, intentional or not.
I think Blizz just lied to us saying it’s working as intended, then decided oh lets just take it out cause it’s to hard to obtain anyways who wants it already got it, lets’ ignore everyone else yada.
Tho what they did with Gezz took me by surprise- they fixed her, for pvp and pve, yet made her untameable. Even tho there IS an npc with her as a pet.
For the love of God bring the ghost wolf back!! We were tripping over ourselves trying to get one. Make him a rare elite spirit beast and bring him BACK!!!
I think it’s fantastic that there’s a second choice for the Spirit Beast family!
And I have no issues with the model they chose except one thing (which is also my issue with Loque-nahak): THE EYES. Seriously… is the person responsible for choosing them eight years old?
Too much ridiculous glowy nonsense, and strange psychedelic colours for no particular reason in this game.
I’ll stop now before I start swearing about Draenei tentacles growing out of their nipples. Le sigh.
*sigh*
Great, ANOTHER bloody cat. Cats cats cats cats and more cats. So many pet familys they could draw from to make something special and unique, but no, its another cat.
Not even as nice as Loque, either.
While I love my Loque, I’m not a fan of this new one. I have nothing against cats. I don’t really care if Blizzard decides that they’re going to put fifty new cat models in. I like cats, I love it when I can use Loque (which is pretty much never these days, /sigh I’ll miss you BM)… but this is lazy. At least put some blinkin’ effort into it, Blizzard. My only real hope lies in this model being just a placeholder.
…also, I want a Spirit Dragonhawk. My little Draenei used a Dragonhawk for most of the run from 1-70 (pre-3.0), and I still love the pet type. Sadly I don’t PvP and cunning is no good for much of anything else, so I’m a tad stuck.
I would note that I wouldn’t mind a Spirit Sporebat either. Originally I was going to make my ‘grouping pet’ a Sporebat, mostly just to make pickups go “WTF”, but sadly I had to nix the idea due to to stable size limitations, as well as me actually figuring out the new pet system…
…not that I actually have room for that many pets, nor can I afford to roll with that many exotics since it doesn’t look like they’re going to make BM raid-viable anytime soon.
Well, if anyone had read my posts about the spirit beasts in the past, I never had much liking towards them. Loque was at one point my least favorite pet in the game because everyone made such a big deal out of one cat whose face was blue. adding the new spirit beast was alright. never before had we seen a pet with both glowing eyes AND transperancy… but then again we have only seen one ooze, too (Which I proudly state that I have :D!!!) adding this new cat-look-alike will at least draw people away from Loque, now. this one at least looks alright but they used yet another cat model. it’s a big cat model, whereas loque is a medium cat model, but it is still a cat. All in all, though, not a bad update :)
Also… WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO MAKE ARMADILLOS FOR TENACITY AND PRAYING MANTISES FOR CUNNING?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? :P
thank you for your time :)
Ryai
And I’m not really downing Gondria that much- it’s just that the model for a spirit beast is .. tacky. I’m not saying that I wanted another Loque- this is more incase others misunderstand. I’m just saying that Blizzard could have worked on the model, made a new one, maybe make it look like a tiger on steroids that would melt your face with lazer eyes.
Exactly my point. didn’t notice this before, just was rereading through the posts. Ty for the better explaination then me, Ryai :)
i’m thinking about it more and more, and i bet if i find gondria, i’ll kill it. rare = blues and achievement. loq i’d let a hunter tame, but not this one. this one is toast.
and i am actually kind of mad at bliz. hunters are *really* attached to their pets, and to add another spirit beast, raising the hopes of every [insert pet] lover, then only to have it as another cat, and one which isn’t quite as cool looking… major let down.
crabs are my fav pet, but suck horribly, and no, i don’t think there should be a spirit crab, but still… wolf is needed, maybe bear and some sort of bird (tallstrider would rock, too… another lazorchikin). c’mon bliz. this isn’t show some love to someone other than cat owners. it is show at least a modicum of respect.
Ryai: I pulled your post out of moderation. I think it’s a combination of length plus links — it’s a very common tactic for spammers to post long excerpts from books with links for drug or porn sites intermixed — but in any case it’s not personal. I’d whitelist you if I could.
i’m loving both the spirit beasts, but then i have a rage-on for big cats and still have my bright orange lynx from the belf starting zone. i think a spirit beast wolf would rock though and i’d be down to tame that as well.
i’m just hoping that this will take some of the pressure off of hunters who want one of them–i’ve spent 36+ hours camping loque with absolutely zero luck and gondria looks really neat to me–he’s got the same mistiness about him that my green skeletal warhorse has. :D
btw, if anyone feels kindhearted, send a tell to marais on bronzebeard if you don’t want to kill/tame–i’ll be eternally in your debt!
i wont tame or kill it,but damn is that a let down (its blockyness and eyes ruin it for me).
its been MONTHS since i last saw a ghost wolf that wasnt mine or a shamans.theres the frostbitten achevment to.so loqs camped to death for two things now…
People focus too much on spirit beasts. why do yuo need a spirit crab or spirit raptor or any of those things. Instead, why not have Blizz help some of the pets that actually need it. Spiders, for example, have the worst pet skill, web for 4 seconds… Why get a spider for web when you can get a crab for charge then pin? or get a silithid if you’re BM. they should focus more on spiders and tallstriders and other pets that people rarely have because of there ability, not make the strong stronger and the weak weaker.
I’m very excited about the Spirit Beasts. However, I have a question. I’m a Survival Hunter, so I was wondering: Can a Hunter spec BM to tame an exotic pet and then respec to MM or Survival and still have the exotic pet?
yes, but u cant use it
come patch tho, u can have a spirit beast, and just have to switch spec. then choose a dif pet via stable spell when switching to SV
I don’t mind the looks my self, No Loque but maybe i can at least get this spirit beast.. camped Loque for a month now.. i manged to see one last night recently tamed but still yet to see it myself.. I hate to go Surv but on the PTR bm is… well i wish they had bm the way it was.. what was wrong.. other then saying we were op.. so what eveyone is op now to a bm
well as of BM, im currently doing alright dps… im not an frequent raider, but with Dsuar i can pull off 2.5k on most Nax 10 bosses. which is pretty good. but i will most likely go BM/sv or BM/MM come patch for a raid dps spec
@Gimlion
Then with luck i was just using wrong pet.. i might go Bm/Sur tho.. as for now went mostly surv with some marks for raiding.. I just know i want a spirit.. cat as it seems to be.. who knows maybe there is anther spirit beast we just haven’t found yet (i can dream)
If they make another spirit wolf, I want it to look different from mine. I fought hard at a time when I had almost no money to get that wolf, and it would piss me off to have everyone be able to get one. I realize that’s being selfish, but they’ve taken away the raety of everything else I have worked for. My winterspring saber, my deathcharger, everything. It pisses me off.
Gah, another freaking cat. It’s “Spirit Beasts”, Blizzard, not “Spirit Cats”. Just make Loque-like textures with differing colors and a couple tweaks to the models for every pet family and have one Spirit Beast representative of each family, how hard is that?
Nachtwulf pointed out a good point on the forums, so I’m going to post it here cause of all the “another cat!?” comments. XD
Even if they made a spirit bat and spirit crab (etc. etc.), it would still use claw (Claw is the focus dump of the SB family), it would still eat meat and fish (diet of the spirit beasts); thus how would a spirit bat or crab make sense? If my Bat started eating fish and using Claw, it wouldn’t be very bat-like to me.
Like someone else pointed on here, Spirit Beast seems to be the exotic version of a cat (much like a Spider’s counterpart is Silithid, and Raptor’s Devilsaur). It sucks for those tired of the Cat love, but it’s kinda the inevitable truth thus far.
Simple:
change spirit beasts so that their favorite food is only drinks!
(better yet, their favorite food would be alcohol – spirits!)
‘Ryai: I pulled your post out of moderation. I think it’s a combination of length plus links — it’s a very common tactic for spammers to post long excerpts from books with links for drug or porn sites intermixed — but in any case it’s not personal. I’d whitelist you if I could.’
Ty for explaining that to me, and pulling my post out of moderation. I’ll try to not link in the future because of that- and I’ll try to cut down my rant length too.
And since it is now all dawning on us Spirit Beasts are possibly the Exotic varriant of cats or atleast their equivalent, Blizz should A: rename them to Spirit Cats or possibly try to prove us wrong .. hopefully.
I mean not all animals have an exotic equal.
._. not like it matters atm untill Blizz really cares about balancing and fixing the trees outside oooh flashy talents. Oooh jazz hands BM hunters, jazz hands!
Btw speaking of Prowl- does it boost SS’s power or not? I’ve been confused about this and so I’ve rarely used it outside a few times just before a boss fight. But then again rarely since it’s a ‘one off buff’.
Well… this leaves me a bit dissapointed and confused. Honestly, I wish I could tell what the folks at blizzard were thinking.
A. If it’s a new pet family tree (spirit beast), why give them all the models of cats? It’s a new tree – new looks.. make them.. not cats?
B. If they intend to make them all look like cats – why bother giving them a new family tree? Just throw them in the cat tree (they have the same stats, +1 new ability) – and call it that.
C. So – okay, they have a new ability which merits a new family tree. But what I don’t get is.. if it’s a new tree, new family, extra ability.. Why oh why make them all look like cats? We… DO already have a “cat” section – which is quite full, might I add.. the only thing they’re missing is the “druid panther form” really. *rolls eyes* So, if they’re going to make a new family for it, why be all cats? And more to that point, why make this new one literally a cat? At least with the other Spirit beast, it was something other than “ghost saber with stripes”… You know?
I can understand them doing something to make it statistically sound (new ability merits new family)… But.. Being somebody who runs a game myself, I find it particularly lazy that with getting $165,000,000 PER MONTH (minimum), they cannot possibly afford the man-power, time, etc that requires them to put a little effort into it and make it at the very least consistant with the new “standard” they’ve set with the Spirit Beasts (them having new models).
Not to be nitpicky really but;
’section – which is quite full, might I add.. the only thing they’re missing is the “druid panther form” really’
the Nelf cat form is tameable. It’s been reskinned Red and tawny-yellowred.
The Tauren catform has not been made tameable- nor been fixed. It’s as badly made unfortunately as this current Spirit Beast. And I should know. I got a nelf and tauren drood to lv 22 respectively, and while ratbear scares me, squishcowcat is worse.
@Rikaku
It never made sense when they regulated all pet speeds and turtles moved as swiftly as cats.
Ghostcrawler admitted that most pet mechanics and changes are made not due to any sort of homage to reality, but to maintain gameplay balance.
Also, while both reptiles, a Devilsaur is not a palette swap of a raptor. Two different models completely. Nor are sithlids palette swaps of spiders.
So far, Spirit Beasts are exclusively palette swaps of cats, the only pet family in the game that is tameable with that (dis)honor.
@ Raze
‘It never made sense when they regulated all pet speeds and turtles moved as swiftly as cats’
Well not only that but have you seen how swiftly turtles can haul their lil bums around? My dad and I rescued about a dozen or more over the last few years, from becoming literal speed bumps on the road. And they moved FAST. I looked away for a moment and one had gotten 25 feet and was still charging along, and two others were running in opposite directions.
Now add the fact one was a snake head/soft shell whatever, and it gets REALLY FUN ROUNDING THEM THAR TURTLES UP.
My dad laughed as I swore under my breath when it bit me
One of my earliest memories is my brother leaning over the ditch in the backyard, showing me the tiny hatchling softshell that thought it was hiding in the grass. And then it leapt up straight out of the water and grabbed hold of his finger so hard! Heh. Poor thing was terrified.
Aha ouch and lol. I know they are terrified, but why do they have to bite, whatever happened to turtles hide in their shells when scared!
Tho it didn’t stop me from helping the turtles to a safer home- I just wish it involved less of the biting.
Raze:
Yes I realize that, I think you misunderstand my words however. I’m not going for realism. Trust me, if I’m playing a 6 ft 1 purple skinned, silver eyed Night Elf, it’s obvious the last thing I’m going for is realism.
I’m trying to point out that if they made a Spirit Bat (for example), it still wouldn’t seem like a Hunter-Pet Bat because 1) It’d *Prowl*. 2) It’d *Claw* 3) It’d have the diet of a Cat. Why? Because all those skills belong to the Spirit Beast family, not just cats. So even if my “Spirit Beast” looked like a Bat, it still wouldn’t be a Bat-family-esque Bat because of it’s properties that make it seem *like* a cat and thus, like a Spirit Beast.
If that made sense O_o
*meant to add this above*
Prior to this new Spirit Beast, Spirit Beasts were NOT a palette swap of a cat. Loque’nahak looks as much feline-like as Devilsaur does a Raptor. But that’s also not what I’m saying. I meant look at their family skills: A Silithid is like an upgraded Spider, Devilsaur an upgraded Raptor, Spirit Beast is perhaps the upgraded (though Cats still outdps them) Cat.
Again not sure if I made sense, it’s early.
Yay another magic cat… bleh. At least the ghostly slimes and hydras were sort of interesting in their glitchy way, but this is just Blizzard reminding us once again that kittehs are teh specialz, yo. i.e. w/e – how about revisiting the spirit wolf now?
@99 Rikaku:
I think cats and very possibly also spirit beasts fit less rigidly into the new pet skills system than other pets, i.e. where other pets got 1 skill, cats got 2 since devs didn’t think prowl was cool enough by itself, i.e. even though they rolled out a fairly comprehensive new formula for pets, they obviously are willing to make exceptions for the pets they especially like.
So, with that in mind I don’t think it’s beyond the pale that you could start seeing new “spirit beasts” in the form of bats or etc that have an arcane blast plus a smack or bite, lack prowl (although I think a case could be made for any sort of spirit beast having prowl due to their semi-corporeal nature) and instead have some other inherited skill like charge, swipe or etc.
We’ll see. So far though the few indicators we do have seem to suggest they just stick with cats…
Er actually… Prowl really isn’t that special- unlike most other pet buffs it can’t be cast if in combat, it only buffs one attack, and for the most part it is useless and I don’t use it on any of my cats. I do see lowbies with it on… it’s usually what explains the ‘why are they without a p-’ shoooooooo goes a cat after them. Oh I go.
That and people DID COMPLAIN ABOUT PROWL. So this is NOT Favoritism. Sheesh.
Scott:
“So, with that in mind I don’t think it’s beyond the pale that you could start seeing new “spirit beasts” in the form of bats or etc that have an arcane blast plus a smack or bite, lack prowl (although I think a case could be made for any sort of spirit beast having prowl due to their semi-corporeal nature) and instead have some other inherited skill like charge, swipe or etc.”
Keep in mind this is the same lazy blizzard who just swapped on old cat model and made it transparent and slapped on a Spirit Beast tag. I seriously doubt they’d take more time out just for changing a pet family (Spirit Beasts) to have 2-3 different Family-based Skills (Prowl, Smack, Bite, Claw) just because 1 Spirit Beast is cat-like and another one (for example) Bat-like.
Sure it’s possible. I’m not saying it can’t happen. But I will say based on Blizzard’s track history thus far of pets, and especially the Spirit Beast’s history, I severely doubt it will ever happen. And I know I’m not the only one who thinks this, Palladiamors points out plenty more than I do (and much more eloquently XD).
Consider all the changes that WOULD have to be in place for Blizzard to make this change:
1) Family Skill Change. Prowl and Claw (from the Spirit Beast family) are not skills that many other families have.
1a) So Blizzard would have to make a Spirit Beast family have seperate family skills based on what the animal is. (i.e. SB Bat gets Screech & Spirit Strike, and Bite; Loque’nahak comes with Prowl & Spirit Strike & Claw; etc. etc.)
OR
1b) All Spirit Beasts use the same skill. Prowl and Spirit Strike & Claw. Bats and Spore bats wouldn’t seem very… Batty to me.
2) Talent Spec changes.
2a)Obviously the Spirit Beast is ferocity. If we make SB Bats (again, example) we’d either have to make it Ferocity (even though Bats are Cunning).
3. Obviously more work on Hunter Pets would be time consuming.
Add that all up and add in teh factor that Blizzard is not the most effecient group out there regarding Hunter pets (It took them 4 years to give us more stable slots, revamp the pet system, and give ALL pet families some sort of family skill.)and you’re basically looking at the 0.01% chance that Blizzard will actually add more non-feline looking beasts to the Spirit Beast family.
Now, I’m not saying I wouldn’t *love* a Spirit Wolf (that had the sexiness factor of a new model that didn’t look like a ghost wolf with a slapped on “Spirit Beast” label AKA the Gondria of Wolves), but I am saying I don’t expect it to happen.
As a long time BM hunter (trying SV not) I cant say I am happy about the choice of model. Love it or hate it Loq was special, not just by class and trouble you had to go through to find it, but because of its looks.
different (better looking IMHO) body, with the glowing eyes and spots, even if you saw it from a mile you knew what it was. This new model … while many will say that the spectral tiger was popular and cool, to me it just seems as a cheap solution. Same old cat only transperant. If they wanted to be lazy about it – fine – but then at least make a new spirit beast a variation of Loq (different color of fur and glow).
Because of prowl, and to a lesser extent spirit strike being derived from rake, I expect all spirit beasts will end up being cats, even though a case could be made for phantom wolves coming out of the shadow. And the whole “spirit” thing is to set them apart as trophys from other pets. So whenever you see “spirit beast” think “trophy cat”.
Not that the loque model is really that appealing to everyone. To me I can’t help thinking that its only one letter away from “sequined leotard”. And for better trophies, instead of making a new pet family, or populating spirit beasts, they could just add more unique skins/effects (examples: Icehorn could be tamed and keep his icy glow, trow a rare elite on a tamable drakkari raptor mount that would have to be tamed while both are alive, add a raven that doesn’t incongrously have ears)
Looking at everything presented I’m afraid I’m probably going to have to agree with everyone stating there won’t be non-cat Spirit Beasts.
Guess that means old Rune will never see the light of day again, as a renamed ‘Spirit Bat’ or otherwise.
/end QQ
I’m also disappointed with the laziness on Blizzard’s part, just changing the transperancy of a wintersaber cat. They could have used Loque’s model, but made a fun and interesting recolor of his skin. Perhaps a “dark” version since Loque is white and pale blue, a new version could have had maybe blacks with either red glows, or a venemous looking green. But, oh well. I guess its better than not adding one it all, it will spread the pressure some for spawncampers.
As for Spirit “not-cats”, well, as others stated, only ferocity pets would truly make sense in the role. I could imagine IF they choose to make a non-cat, it would most likely be a wolf. I say this because wolves seem to be Blizzard’s 2nd favorite pet after the cat (new WOTLK model, GC calling wolves “such an iconic wow creature”). Some wolves DO prowl in the “wild” of Hinterlands. And claw is reasonable, they have clows as well as teeth. Still, it’s unlikely to happen.
Speaking of lazy- Blizz made a minor boo-boo on the Loque model, too.
*disclaimer* if you’re in love with your loque by looks alone, and a flaw will irritate you endlessly, stop reading, and dont be mad at me.

Loque is actually toothless on his left side of his lower jaw. There’s just no teeth on that half. This is most noticable as he yawns. Blizz needs to give the poor boy some dentures in a patch.
You know, so many people for a long time have been wanting another spirit beast added to the family, and when they finally get one they are disappointed… WHAT THE HECK?!?!?! For a while, Spirit beasts were the only thing that people on these forums were talking about, and wanting a second one was one of the main things they wanted. now there is a second one, and people are disappointed… I actually like this models looks better then Loque’s. sure it’s just another cat model, but isn’t that what Loque is, too?
Also, nobody has been responding to my other posts… is it because I disrespect the ALMIGHTY AND POWERFUL *cough cough* Loque, or just because people don’t care to read it?
Rottingham:
Loque doesn’t use another cat model. His movements are like a cat’s, that’s it. *Model-wise* Loque is not the same as any other “cat” in the game. If you took the skin from loque and put it on say, a Durotar Tiger, the tiger model would still not look like Loque. Loque’s shoulders are wider, his tail is a bit different, as are his paws… there’s numerous things that make Loque’s model different then a cat’s model. So no, Loque is not another cat model =p
i dont get whats so wrong with cat models… i love cats tho so that might be it
I am 99% certain there will never be a spirit beast that doesn’t look at least nominally like a cat. Why?
The are cats. Cat diet, cat skills, cat talent tree. They are cats with a special attack, plain and simple.
And yeah… if you don’t want it, don’t tame it! If nothing else, maybe having half the people circling Zul’drak will mean I’m not competing for Krush with eight other hunters at 4am in the freaking morning. That’d be nice.
Rikaku:
I understand that Loque is not a normal cat model, however if a lower level looked at him, they would not say “WOW! A spirit beast!” they would say “Well thats an awesome cat!” Basically, He is a cat. A different model, but a cat nevertheless. When I first heard spirit beast, I thought that it would be some sort of creature with fog around it. I NEVER had in mind a cat with a glowing blue face. Don’t get me wrong, If it were under the cat family then I wouldn’t complain about his looks at all. I think that Loque’s looks are beutiful, however they don’t put wolves apart from worgs or skinny spiders apart from the tarantula-like spiders. They don’t even move apart tigers, lynxes, panthers, and all those other types of cats apart from one another. If Blizz had made a newly-modeled bear with a blue face, sure it would look awesome for a bear, just not a whole new family apart from bears. anyways Rikaku, Thank you for responding to my post :)
Gimlion:
There is absolutely nothing wrong with cats or cat models, just not for a whole new class of pet. It would be like saying “Ghost Beast” pet family and the creatures model is similar to a bird. personally I think the bird would be awesome, but not enough to separate it from the Birds of prey or Carrion Birds.
Nachtwulf:
That is exaclty what I am saying :) At least I know somebody’s got my back on this.
I think the model of those flying serpents around the Nexus would make for a great spirit beast. Serpentine types are best for a spiritual vibe.
Does anyone know if the silithid wasps are tameable now?
well caserno, if they did become tameable they would first off have to be move out of the Dragonkin npc family, secondly, well i think cats FTW so i could care less.
Well, I’d love to know if there are any old world creatures that have had their classes/tameable flags changed.
Course, with the 40s wasps, there’d have to be 1 or 2 lower ranks of sting put in the game I assume. I dunno if dataminers have foudn such stuff, and I don’t the drive space (or patience) to get the PTR client.
—–
For all the crying bout the lazy model, I don’t run with cats, but I will say I thought this one was impressive as I was expecting it just to be a strait up opacity altered cat like the ghostsaber. If I were to tame a cat, this would be it, as I think Loqur looks like a silly, mobile, fanged, blacklight. But it being a cat, I could care less… Just be thankful it wasn’t a level 81 instance mob…
(seriously, just change the Spirit Beast diet to moonshine, and any manor of spirit creature would work with prowl/lasers, icon be damned. I mean plenty of Birds of Prey are hawks, but use the owl icon, granted they’re all birds, but you get the idea. The icon is nebulous enough to be any creature with ears…)
’seriously, just change the Spirit Beast diet to moonshine,’
Does this mean I could carry booze for me and my pet!?
BTW ‘Meat’ and ‘Fish’ isn’t just the diet of cats. Carrion birds had/have that diet too and they could learn claw…..
But unfortunately Blizzard is not as original as we would all hope so thus Spirit Beast will probably really mean Spirit Cat.
Absolutely!
I’m sure pouring a stout in the ground for your ghostly buddy could make them very happy, and wouldn’t be too far fetched. I mean, we’re talking about a spirit that controls ion cannons FROM THE MOON willing to fight by your side.
(Or regular drinks if we need tobe PG-13 about it…’cuz I’m sure people would get into a hissyfit about that too…)
Just tamed this cat a little south of the altar of Quet’lun, 10 PM server on the PvP PTR – was wandering placidly among all the hostile bears and leopards doing whatever spirit beasts do. (I think there may be a pattern, all the reported spawns I know of have the frost leopards and iceclaw bears around them)
Much like Loque’nahak – he’ll leap right on yer face and use a move called frozen bite – a little frost DoT and about a 50% debuff to movement. Doesn’t hit terribly hard (600 or so on a normal hit, crit me for 1400) and is susceptible to both fear and trap.
Gave up my Drakuru raptor “twilight” for this amazing animal – likely it will inherit my raptor’s name.
Lots of interesting posts here.
Bottom line?
I WILL HAVE BOTH IN MT STABLES!!!
Someday…./sigh
Kitairra
I am glad you understand me Rikaku. Thanks, to be honest i expected a rude reply from every single user here that i fail.
I like cats, but there are many types of cats that can be tamed.. I’m really hoping that a new beast wil be a spirit beast, like the wolves,(hoping the spirit wolves they will come back as spirit beasts) & i bet even a warp stalker would make a nice one.
Hehe I never thought about a Warp stalker being a Spirit Beast [if Spirit Beasts really aren't 'Spirit Cats']
Heh, Warp + SS, screw prowl. WARPSPEED MOONFIRE.
I believe that the spirit beast pet classification will prolly remain a dump location for when people tame storyline related creatures. Because of this I doubt it will see much individual attention as far as variety in tameable models and ability variety.
On the other hand it would be nice to see many of the Beast spirits get added to this category due to their nature.
If they do intend to keep this pet family alive and worth going for, original models befitting of the unique creatures that they are would be almost a necessity. However that depends on if their storyline dev team ever bothers to interact with the implementaion teams…
Last night I tamed Gondria at about 6:43pm normal PTR server time at the location just southwest of the Altar of Mam’toth. I’ll just point to the story and more screen shots
Link didn’t post properly, so here it is again: http://dblbbl.com/content/taming-gondria-ptr
Too bad the 2nd Spirit Beast wasn’t an all white/albino-looking “cat”. Too bad it doesn’t have unique, original colorations on it either. That sucks. At least Loque’nahak’s original. And I like Loque’nahak’s non-transparency thing too.
These are all interesting and lengthy posts… Here’s what I’m thinking.
I’m thinking… we are Hunters. We can tame our own pets in the game. We can pick almost any of the beasts to tame! OMG. That’s something every warlock with it’s pre-named voidwalker can be jealous of. I am grateful for even that.
Second, I hate the model. Hate it. So I won’t tame it. Yay!
Third, Spirit Raptor FTW! The light coming out of the jaws and eyes, and pure white coloring… Something a raptor fan such as myself can only dream of. It won’t happen, but also…
Couldn’t they change “Prowl” to “Fade” or something? That way it’s more spirit-like and more models can enter the family.
I think Blizz is doing great for even trying! We’re a hard to please crowd these days. ^_^
Oh, one more thing! I think this beast should be in Crystalsong Forest. Not Zul’drak! There’s nothing trollish about it, and it’s purple coloring AND the whole night-elf ruin theme there would match this pet ENTIRELY. And, there is hardly any traffic at all in Crystalsong Forest, perhaps a rare spawn Spirit Beast there could help to even out population in Northrend. ;)
Tashi’s idea of changing “Prowl” to “Fade” sounds like it would be a great idea – if that was changed, it might open a couple more options for other SB models.
For the diet case, Birds of Prey, Carrion birds, and Crocolisks have the same diet. A few other families, in my opinion, could have the same diet as well.
Wolves and some bats are known to eat fish. Hyenas pretty much eat anything. Raptors might be able to pull off the diet, too. Other families could do it as well… fish is technically meat – our pets are just being picky. >.>
Or Blizz could just change the SB diet. Cats are great, but variety is even better! :D
At least there’s an alternative to the overcamped crap we got to deal with in scholazar now… but still.
Another rare!!! ugh..
Had to see this for myself. Nice another Spirit Beast is out there —but wait–why the heck did they not allow the Spirit Wolves in Black Temple to become tamable(again). Once apon a time they were then Blizz made them untamable.
Loque wins the beauty and originality contest hands down over this winterspring re-make cat. (I guess the development team is on strike or something or we are not paying Blizzard enough monthly coin to come up with new models) The only thing I will do on sight is shoot it and loot it.
While I think the new SB looks like it might have a few genetic inbreeding features I am glad to see blizz might be trying to be more accommodating. I will not personally be taming this cat due to the fact I am still wanting the Loque. This all being said I am a little disappointed in this community. Assuming most people use their Wow names posting here I see very few posts relating what has been posted here on the ptr forums. If you all feel so strongly about this post it somewhere that it might actually help.
Sorry for the horrible abuse of the English language. Just finished a 48 hr work rotation and am barely awake
As so many others have said, this is rather a big let down in the general sense. I DO however like the purple aura feel to this cat however I just don’t enjoy the fact that it’s just a normal Riding Saber with the ghostly appearance to it. I have Loque’nahak on my hunter and I LOVE HIM!
This cat is just a normal tiger turned into something. I like Loque because well the kickass roaring he does and he just looks so unique and different from anything else in game. Hopefully the next spirit beast won’t be a let down in the general sense.
i personally love the skin… love my ghost saber and Rakshiri and i want a spirit beast, so it combines all 3 together into pure awesomeness IMHO.
Awww, this would have been the perfect rarespawn for Crystalsong Forest, not Zul’Drak. :/
I agree as well that this guy would have been better placed in Crystalsong rather than Zul’drak. You know, I’m almost wondering why they didn’t put Loque’nahak IN Zul’drak himself since that’s where his mate Harkoa is. Then again, Blizzard is weird in a sense.
I do like this model, but I’m preferring that Blizzard would have spent a bit more time considering the looks of the pet. A tiger is a tiger even if it is ghostly, but then again this guy does look rather amusing after I look at him for a bit longer. Just those eyes are now too blaring for me. Not saying I won’t TAME him if I do find him, though he’ll probably stay stabled up in my stables at that point.
frankly idc which of the 2 spirit beasts i get, just want one… lol
I hope that this is the model and stats that the beast becomes live with since I love tigers and I got all the named tiger modes in WOW so far and would love to get this guy if he/she is a tiger. And after that the fun part will to come up with a name that means the same as Sacred and/or Holy since the mode looks like a FrostSaber and since I a Night Elf Hunter the FrostSabers are Sacred animals to the Night Elves I use the names, Sacred = Shy’ Rotam and Holy = Rak’ Shiri, so know I need on more for this uber cat.
Can it be tamed by the ice trap?
To Shrek:
No, only by tame beast :)
I think Shrek means can it be trapped by Ice Trap. Yes it can.
But like Volcan said, only tame beast can tame a beast XD
Gondria should’ve been in Crystalsong, you’re so right. I also think Blizzard purposely made fun of us Hunters there. The ghost hunters there have Ghost Wolves for pets, I bet thats a subliminal jab to patch 2.3.2
Also Gondria got some new vocals, but personally I find them not as awesome as Loque’s. But still an awesome addition to the SB tree.
well i like the new spirit beast… not as much as Loq tho… but as far as i know, he has WAY less spawn points, so it should be easier to find, i hope *crosses fingers*

Wow, look at all the QQing about it “being another rare”. ON NO IT’S RARE!
Okay, let’s make it SUPER COMMON instead, would you still want it?
Spirit Beasts are for accomplished hunters only, if you don’t have the patience to hunt this, go tame a Bangalash or something.
Why doesn’t blizz make Ghost Saber and Grimtotem Sprirt Guide tameable as well as sprirt beasts
Though it isn’t a new model, you’ve have to admit that it looks extremely cool.
