New Pets for Young Blood Elves in 3.1

In the latest version of the patch notes for Patch 3.1, current on the Public Test Realms, Blizzard mentioned that:

Turtles and Crabs now dwell in waters of and off Eversong and the Ghostlands, giving Blood Elf hunters access to local Tenacity pets.

So of course I went out as soon as I could to see what they’d added.

Golden Crawler (5-7, Eversong Woods)

Golden Crawler

The Golden Crawler is an attractive little bronze crab that can be found along most of the western shore of Eversong Forest. I found a few up on the Tranquil Shore, north of the undead murlocs, and a whole bunch south of there along the Golden Strand, all the way down to the border of the Ghostlands. They do not intermix with the undead murlocs, which either means they are pretty smart or pretty tasty …

In either case they are non-aggressive, so have no fear of walking up and making friends. While there were already plenty of low-level bronze crabs in Azeroth, this is the first one that lives in a Horde starter zone.

Rotting Crawler (12-13, Ghostlands)

Rotting Crawler

Golden Crawlers only occur in Eversong Woods, but on the west coast of the Ghostlands you will find what happens to cute little crabs when the Scourge moves in — they bleach out and become Rotting Crawlers.

Rotting Crawlers can be found down the entire western shore, from Golden Mist Village past Windrunner Spire all the way to the southern mountains. And apparently they taste as bad as they sound, since even the undead murlocs won’t touch them. Oddly, they are still non-aggressive.

Lake Snapper (7-8, Eversong Woods)

Lake Snapper

Lake Snappers are simple green turtles in the same vein as the Snapjaws in Hillsbrad. They live in the Eversong Woods section of Lake Elrendar, from about Zeb’Watha north to Elrendar Falls. They are also non-aggressive.

Note that Lake Snappers brings the lowest level turtle down below level 10. Previously, the lowest level turtle was the level 15 Oasis Snapjaw in the Barrens. They also expand green turtle accessibility quite a bit, since before you either needed to wait until level 30 for the Snapjaw or venture into Blackfathom Deeps for an elite Aku’mai Fisher.

Plagued Snapper (12-13, Ghostlands)

Plagued Snapper

Lake Elrendar bridges both Eversong Woods and the Ghostlands, so as you might expect we can also find turtles in the southern part of this great lake. But like the crabs, the turtles have also been touched by the Scourge.

Plagued Snappers can presumably be found throughout southern Lake Elredar, but in truth I only saw two of them there: one just south of the Isle of Tribulations, and one hiding out under the ledge of the Farstrider Enclave.

However, I also found a couple (exactly two!) Plagued Snappers in the big pond northwest of Zul’Aman (just outside Zeb’Nowa). I checked the small ponds further west, as well as the pools in the Amani Pass, with no luck. So perhaps this is just the beginnings of the population spreading out from northern Lake Elrendar.

And More?

I searched the inland lakes and rivers of Eversong Woods and the Ghostlands and turned up no other new beasts. But I may well have missed something — so if you run into something unknown in the Blood Elf lands, please let me know!

LOL!! I need to read more clearly before I do anything…

When I first read this,I immediantly logged onto my horde hunter and made a bee-line for Eversong Woods to tame a turtle……

    ….halfway there before I realized Mania said “Patch 3.1″. D’OH! /facepalm

    LMAO! <—–nub

Good find, but I find it funny Bliz didn’t give Belves this long ago.

    Calx:
To be fair, turtles weren’t really made “tenacity” pets til 3.0, so there’s was no real need to have a viable tank pet option.

Too bad none of them are the blue crab option though, looks like I’m still running to Dun Morogh for Timber.

Cool! The only fun part though will be to get those on Alliance at level 10-11. I’m just waiting to see which become the flavor of the patch the turtle or crab as it seems one or the other will displace the gorilladin.

  7. Rikaku - March 7th, 2009 @ 10:31 am UTC

    Ziboo:
Neither of those will displace the gorilladin, Bears will. Swipe + Thunderstomp = Bringin’ the Thundah!
But out of those two, I have my pets on crabs being popular.

I almost got a bear anyway wo thunderstomp, im happy it was equalized!

I was lucky enough to see the lovely Mania before she went on this little excursion. I can safely say she’s the first WoW-site celeb I’ve ever met. And even better? She’s got a slime, like me. :D

i saw her a few days ago in the Argent Tournament area but this is great if I ever make a character start at or go to Eversong (my favorite horde starting area) Thanks

Rikaku: Crocolisks aren’t out of the running tho, given the fact Bear has to have targets infront of it for swipe, and I’m able to have my Hydralisk go and aggro 5 mobs and they can be infront or behind and still get hit by Bad Attitude.

One mob did 3k dmg to itself that way olo. Less shots to waste to kill :D

Turtle’s racial isn’t something to laugh at over either, it may not be damage dealing, but a damage reduction? Like a paladin bubble? That’s not something to scoff off either.

Now while not saying a Bear is a bad choice- for BM, who have the Longevity talent 3/3 [well who as BM doesn't have it], Bad Attitude is just under a 2min cd or so and lasts 45 seconds, not bad. And turtles racial lasts for 12 sec and has a one min cd, so going by intimidate that should be down to a 40ish sec cool down, which isn’t such a bad deal either, given that Paladin’s bubbles come with a debuff and can’t be used once every 40 seconds.

And in general, while this is a nice change, and will help out given how many wandering elites are in ghostlands.. KNUCKLEROT AND LUZRAN HAVE CLONES I TELLS YA- I still don’t regret taming a lv 18 albinolisk from WC.

  12. Rikaku - March 7th, 2009 @ 4:22 pm UTC

    Ryai:
Yes, but Crocolisks are annoying with that hissing sound they make D= that’s why I think bears will be the new Flavor of the Month pet. Personally, my Warp Stalker is mine XD

And as now playing a Blood elf, Knucklerot MUST have a clone ><

  13. Ryai - March 7th, 2009 @ 4:41 pm UTC

Oh yeah you managed to tame Gezz rite? D:

And yeah forgot about Warp’s, they got a good ‘solo’ ability along with Thunderstomp, and worms too… hm.

Personally I don’t mind the sounds, hell, sometimes I bring a pet just for the sound to annoy others. I mean if people want to hate me for just rolling a hunter, I am going to make thme HATE ME MOAR.

And yeah they have to or they have quick path times.

Atleast it’s not as bad as the reaver tho, with atleast 4 running around all glitched. Ever see a glitched Reaver? Scary sight.

  14. Gort - March 7th, 2009 @ 6:41 pm UTC

Saranette, you know those Blood Elf girls like lobster. Unless there is something more expensive on the menu>

  15. Rikaku - March 7th, 2009 @ 7:14 pm UTC

    Ryai:
Lmao yep. There’s like 3 Gezz’s on my realm. Ironically I named mine Raiju (after the Thunder beast in Japanese myths) only to find a dwarf hunter doing the same.

    I call conspiracy XD

Yeah I get called out on annoying sounds with my spirit beast sometimes, but I just tell my group to suck it up XD

  16. Gimlion - March 7th, 2009 @ 7:43 pm UTC

    Ziboo-
Frankly… i could care less about crabs… Intimidate > pin any day. IMHO i think that bears (swipe + shock) Croc (total AoE ownage) or Turtle (Shield + Shock) will be the best Tank pets… especially for AoE farming.

  17. Shinryu Masaki - March 7th, 2009 @ 10:51 pm UTC

What do you mean by Intimidate > pin any day? That’s wrong! They work great together! Well, more when one is after the other, really. =P

Assuming the mob isn’t immune to them all, Charge (1 sec) -> Pin (4 secs) -> Intimidate (3 secs) = mob stuck in place for 8 seconds. Not too bad when you think about it. =)

    And a little something strange I noticed the other day when I met with a druid while leveling up my crocolisk. The druid casted Thorn on my pet, and for some unknown reason it stopped completely using Bad Attitude! Only when Thorn finally faded away did my croc started using it again. o.o;

  18. 84 - March 8th, 2009 @ 9:16 pm UTC

    to Shinryu Masaki
perhaps its set up so its only useing one reation damage attack thing at a time?did the thorns cause more damage then bad attitude would have?did you report it incase its a bug?

oh goggle.green turtles at 10.WANT! the white ones at 12 will be nice…

  19. Ryai - March 9th, 2009 @ 2:52 am UTC

    @ Shin

My druid friend, Ariamodasu and I found that Bad Attitude and Thorns do not mix. When she tried to cast thorns on my Hydralisk when we were taking down a rarespawn [we wanted tp be prepared because I saw it horribly smoosh someone who later turned out to just be a complete idiot], she told me afterwards she kept getting ‘A more powerful spell is active’ so it seems Bad Attitude and Thorns ‘share’ the same coding or something.

But hey does it really matter? Unless it’s imp Thorns, and even then, at level 80 Erebus does 220-330 dmg per whack per mob.

    Srs bznz

  20. Ryai - March 9th, 2009 @ 2:56 am UTC

    Double Post

Rikaku; Aha and; ‘Yeah I get called out on annoying sounds with my spirit beast sometimes, but I just tell my group to suck it up XD’

I sometimes see people telling wolves to shut up too XD

  21. Dweezill - March 10th, 2009 @ 12:31 am UTC

OK, not o level things out, how about some lowe level Dragonhawks for lower level alliance players to tame. It’s only fair.

  22. Aeira - March 10th, 2009 @ 8:00 pm UTC

Well, Dweezil, you have to admit. Having Dragonhawks for alliance would be similar to adding snow leopards or polar bears in for horde. It would take all the fun out of running for hours, dodging angry guards and that final exhilarating moment when you see your goal in sight… getting killed by some other punk. :)

As for the ‘Silence of the pets’ I’d have to say my Gezzarak the Huntress Warp Stalker fits the bill nicely. She’s quiet, she’s cute, and she packs a wallop. All I hear are the occasional hisses when she’s in battle or the sound of her warping around. Cats are obnoxious, along with birds, wolves and raptors. When they enter a battle it’s like they want everyone around them to know they are beating the crap out of some poor mob. Dragonhawks make a fun noise, halfway between a sneeze and a warble, so they are fun. I would go through the rest of the pets and rate them, but no one wants to listen to me rant :)

  23. Mdragonlord - March 10th, 2009 @ 9:30 pm UTC

    to Dweez,
You should know better than to play alliance anyway:P

  24. Zulfyr - March 17th, 2009 @ 4:37 am UTC

I WANNA tame a DAM MANA WYRM

  25. Mania - March 17th, 2009 @ 4:43 am UTC

Zulfyr: Me too. Oh, me too …
