PTR 3.0.8: Flutterers can be Tamed! (Slime Cannot)

It’s true! It’s finally true! On the Public Test realms right now, Blue Flutterers and Royal Blue Flutterers — the low level blue moths of Bloodmyst Isle — can finally be tamed!

And just in case, I re-checked the following as well:

  1. OK, while we are talkign about what is and what is not tamable in the next patch, ther are a couple I am hoping will become tamable. Can anybody check to see if these are now tamable?

    Sunblade Dragonhawk
    Dawnblade Dragonhawk

I am guessing neither are tamable, but I would give my left *** for the dawnblade… even though they are a mount, i would still like to knw. lol If anybody on the PTR’s could check that, i would be grateful.

  2. that reminds me, does anyone know if the green warpstalkers ive seen on the site becoming tamable? those are my fave skin by far for warpstalkers and im tired of my white one and dont wanna go through much effort for gezz =P

  3. Reply to Brad..

There used to be RED Warpstalkers which looked awesome.. they were on the plataeu where Ogri’la is now, in Blade’s Edge Mountains. They were unfortunately removed along with some of the other demon mobs in the area when that place got revised. They were level 72 so nobody could have tamed them either.. until now. If they were still there that is.. :\

  4. I find it a good thing that the flutterers will be tamable, but I don’t like the news on the Hive Queen. As for the ghost croc, ooze, and hydra I already have the ooze but it’s still a shame :( however, something that Blizz should have focused more on are the spiders. Y would anyone get a spider for web when a crab does the same attack but also does damage? they should either make the duration of the web longer, reduce cooldown, or make it to where the enemt is in a cacoon and can’t attack either. Does anyone else agree with me?

  5. I do Rottingham, to an extent, but I also hate spiders. But I wouldn’t compare the Crab’s Pin to the Spider’s Web. Pin is channeled and can be interrupted, but the spider can web and then continue to attack while the mob is stuck. The Silithid attack, however, is almost the same. They spit a Poison Web which does the same as a spiders web, except that it does poison damage.

The spider is a cunning pet, so it’s more used in pvp situations. In pvp, your pet isn’t gonna be doing butt loads of damage, but you can use them to make things difficult for other players. Webbing a flag runner so your buddies can catch him is great. So what if he can still attack? Besides, if Blizz did make changes to web, they’d probably have to make bigger changes with the other pet abilities, and pets might become more powerful than intended. As it is, I don’t have a problem with web, but I don’t use spiders.

  6. To aramaru, would u happen to have a link to somewhere that i can see a picture of the red ones? Red is my fave color and i would like to see them =P

  7. Here is a question for anyone who has access to the PTR.

I have read that actions that aggro a mob without damaging it will now “tag” the mob, meaning that it will give no xp or loot to another player who kills it. When fighting multiple mobs I’ve lost out on kills when freeze-trapping one, because someone else can shoot it and tag it. So…

Can someone see whether taming a pet now reserves that mob for the hunter (greys out the name for other non-party players for example) because that would solve a buttload of issues when someone decides to axe the beastie you’re halfway through taming. (Especially the spirit beastie)

  8. As long as the critter is trying to eat your face, the tame goes as normal and it SHOULD tag. That however would stop people who just wanted to be *Insert some random swear here* by killing what you’re trying to tame just to annoy you. As far as I know it won’t stop anybody trying to kill it.

  9. back to my original question =P, can anyone on ptr tell me if the greenish yellow warpstalkers in the arcatraz are tamable? last i checked the petopia said it wasnt but with some new pets becomin tamable who knows =P

  10. I finally tamed the sapphire hive queen last night in the wee hours, after a week of power leveling from 70-78 (“power leveling” for me = finding creative ways to squeeze in extra wow time around lots of RL commitments; a dedicated guild player probably could have done it in a quarter or half the time)…

Originally I was kinda blase about the idea esp considering how much exp grinding was entailed, plus the fact that the “regular” silithid wasps are cooler looking IMHO (well not a “fact” then, but eh), but the collector madness came over me and I decided I just had to have it…

  11. @55 Rottingham:

I disagree – my SV hunter uses a spider, crab and hyena and they are each “special in their own way”; while it’s true that web and pin are very similar, they remain different enough to give each pet it’s own “feel”.

Web – goes off the instant you start shooting and seems to buy more time for me to burn the mob down to 0 hp while it’s still at range; it may only be the 0.5 second while the spider is closing the gap but it still seems to make a difference for me, and since it is ranged you don’t usually have any problems with delays from his gcd (and spiders can lock down flyers, which is a small but nice bonus).

Pin – even with charge this doesn’t seem to work quite as well for me; by the time the crab is close enough to use it, his AI is already thinking about using growl and claw, and which can cause pin to sometimes be “put off” a bit due to his gcd. OTOH having some extra damage is nice, I just have to hold my fire a bit more until he’s had a chance to land a pin.

When you get down to it though I think both pets are good enough to be worth taming, each with a little something to recommend it.

  12. I think the reason for making the Hive Queen untameable is Blizzard somehow isnt able to properly size it down when tamed? Or whatever issue.

Might have missed it, but will she (Hive Queen) remain the size shes having on Live atm with patch 3.0.8?

  13. Logged in to see what the Oracles quest of the day was and if I can get the ghost pets, and I am getting a patch instead. Argh! Sigh.

Oh well, at least I got the Hive Queen. To the poster above: all of the Sholazar wasps retain that huge size when tamed. Are you saying the others can be scaled down, except the queen? That seems odd, since I think they are the same model.

  14. Not positive as it was 1am when I tamed her (see above), but I seem to recall the hive queen DID scale down quite a bit post-taming; still very large but not nearly as big as her “wild” state… this is on live though, no idea if it’s the same on PTR…

  15. Got my hydra (now named Rusalka) last night after going from 70->80 in something like nine days.

I did have to hack my sound files to delete the hydra idle sound so she wasn’t burbling and hissing constantly, but now she’s perfect. ♥

  16. Taming that ooze was the one thing I was looking forward to on my hunter. Now that blizzard took it away from me I might as well just delete him. Especially since we got nerfed hardcore.

  17. @andy: “Nerfed hardcore”? BM hunters lost 5% pet haste and 10% pet damage, while gaining a 9% bonus to Arcane Shot damage from a “mandatory” talent in the tree. Arcane Shot now costs as much as steady, Kill Shot is on a much shorter CD (so is Tranq), and–in general–the changes were largely to correct exploits/unintended benefits and encourage us to do something OTHER than mindlessly spamming steady shot and volley.

Overall, I’m pleased. I use an Arcane/Serpent/Steady rotation already, and I will be gratified that my DPS will now line up or beat that of people who use volley on every single pull.

  18. Old Cliff Jumper, I loved that wolf skin so much I forced myself to camp the zone all the way to 52 with my hunter to tame him. now working on the white monkey.

  19. I managed to get Old Cliff Jumper after about a day of camping near Aerie Peak, and I love him very much. So much in fact, my outfit is in purple tones to match his mouth, and my Bone Slicing Hatchets with Agility enchants look like his eyes. I won’t get a gorilla, and I want a slimealisk, but I fear the new patch has eliminated the Spirit options.

  20. I tamed the hydralisk a few weeks back, and its been in my stables since. went to take it out yesterday (its my only tanking pet) to try soloing some instances and i couldnt remove it from the stable? anyone else experiencing this?

  21. @Daegmund hope your question get answered since I want to know too.

And there is another thing, there is a risk that blizz deletes our pets if we already tammed them right?
