PTR 3.0.8 Update

I haven’t had much chance to stay updated on the current Public Test Realm, but I noticed today that MMO Champion reported an update to the PTR patch notes yesterday — complete with handy old-vs-new notations — and a new build (9438) today. So if you’re jonesing for PTR info, swing by MMO Champion, ’cause unfortunately they know more than I do.

I was able to log into the PTR briefly today to verify some unforunate news I’d heard. It’s true: on the current PTR build you can no longer tame the Sapphire Hive Queen in Sholozar Basin. Nor can you tame the three Oracles spirits: the Spirit of Ha-Khalan (aka ghostly croc), the Spirit of Atha (aka ghostly hydradile), or the Spirit of Koosu (aka crocoslime). We were expecting the change to the Spirits, but to be honest I have no idea why the Sapphire Hive Queen would be made untameable.

I happened to have the three Spirits in my stable on the PTR, and all three still exist, still retains their unique looks, and still think that they are crocolisks. In addition, they can still be fed. So for the moment at least it looks like we’ll get to keep previously tamed Spirits. I didn’t happen to have a Sapphire Hive Queen in the stable, though, so I am uncertain what might be happening with that pet if you’ve already tamed her. If you like the look of any of these pets, though, now might be the time to grab them.

Personal note: As you may have noticed, I haven’t been doing well catching up after the holidays. Suffice it to say that while I avoided my husband’s stomach flu, I failed to avoid the nasty head cold/flu-like thing he came down with afterwards. *si- *cough cough cough* -gh*

  1. @ Noba

I believe they’ve stated previously that wasp sting clashes with faerie fire, as worm acid clashes with sunder.

And I am hugely happy that wasp DPS has been fixed. Now roll on silithid wasps… anybody checked those on the PTR (beg, beg)

  2. Well the hive queen is a quest mob, i guess they didn’t want people griefing each other that way..

As for the crocoslime fix, i wonder if existing pets will be changed retroactively.. would be a shame on one hand, but more fair to future hunters who aren’t able to get one after the patch.

  3. Bbr:
I doubt that’s the reason they’re removing the hive queen. It’s a huge possibility, but in the time between taming her and doing her talents (which doesn’t take me long since I already know what I was gonna take) she respawn. She has like a 45 sec – 1 min respawn O_o

  4. Bradagore answered it mostly but I’m going to expand a bit.

Armor reduction (minor): Sting (wasp), faerie fire (feral), and Curse of Recklessness (like warlocks use that curse anyways) will not stack with each other.
Armor Reduction (major): Sunder Armor (warrior), Expose Armor (rogue), and Acid Spit (worm) will not stack with each other.

As far as them making the LSD Acid wasp of doom untameable, who knows what runs through the devs’ minds when they make changes like this. Can you imagine if they made Princess Huhuran tameable? Now that would be cool.

  5. Anyone know if the purple spider in storm peaks(I think they’re there anyway) are tamable on the PTR? I’d give my left nostril for one of those cuties

  6. Well, now I’m glad I went ahead and got the hydra on my hunter. I actually really like him, noises and all, so he’s probably a perma-pet now, since I won’t be able to retame him.

The hive queen doesn’t bother me that much, if I get a wasp it’s gonna be one of the Zangarmarsh ones.

  7. I’m lucky enough to have tamed the queen and a Hydralisk in time. [or for that matter leveled up in time]. I don’t really mind noisy pets, I have the SB and that thing is so damn noisy.. roar roar roar >> explosion from SS and roar some more.

    Anyways.

Quoting bbr here ‘As for the crocoslime fix, i wonder if existing pets will be changed retroactively.. would be a shame on one hand, but more fair to future hunters who aren’t able to get one after the patch.’

Er no, that would not be fair. Yes I hate the fact Blizz retired Ghostwolves after SAYING that they would REMAIN tameable! Yes I hate the fact Blizz retired the Armani warbear, making it even harder for my tauren to get 50 mounts [untill the patch comes out]. But to punish the players? No. That’s just no.

While I envy them I wouldn’t want their hard earned rewards taken away from them, or would you like to lose your fave pet if it suddenly became stealthed untameable?

  8. Its sad that the Oracle spirit pets are getting nerfed. I finally got a hydralisk and a slime in my stable today (today being the first day I’ve ever been offered the quest! Talk about waiting). I hope they don’t change it retroactively, as my slime is just the cutest thing.

Did anyone check and see if the Zul’Drak wolves are still tameable?

And how about those ghost worms (from the Sons of Hodir daily)?

Yeah, lets just say my stable is stuffed with pets I probably shouldn’t have (zuldrak hound, ghost worm, slime, and hydralisk…and one normal cat).

And I’ve become really attached to my ghost worm. I’m going to be really mad if he gets taken away from me.

  9. I don’t think they’ll change it retroactively. Your ghost wolf, hydralisk are safe. However, the only one I fear (now this is personal opinion, not something on the PTR) remaining is Gezzerak. The last time they had a severely bugged pet like this (Death Ravager and th Serpents before they were tameable) they made it impossible to feed the pet. Also, Gezzerak is gimped in it’s reactions, so even if they make it untameable in the wild, this pet still has bugs that make it ill-suited as a companion (by definition). I wouldn’t be surprised if they remove this pet from stables (if they don’t fix it) or just leave it to where you can’t feed it either. =/

  10. Trowabarton:

Gezzarak the Huntress… has been fixed you say? Really? This brightens my day considerably… Can anyone else confirm this on the PTR? ^^

  11. Rikaku – you’re right about the respawn on the hive queen – I had the same thing, where I my tamed queen’s first kill was…. herself. The Night elf who turned up halfway through the fight to do the quest was utterly bewildered.

  12. Noo! I busted my butt trying to get to 80 for the ooze and hydra. Was 70 on Thursday, and way 79.5 tonight when the servers went down. Help pray to the WoW gods that the patch isn’t this week and I have more time to get them! =(

  13. i put a sc of her with buffs n heals and a stats display

lol i cant wait to take her to raids n call lightning from the sky

  14. Hey, all!
One question: (well, I actually have more, but i forgot them xD) Are the “low lvl” moths tameable now? The ones on Bloodmyst Isle?

  15. >_< Okay. Next time check to make sure I’m responding to the right person.

    @Mythan
We get at least a week’s reprieve. The patch wasn’t released today!

  16. @Damita
Yay! Now I can stop stressing out at work about it. My Guild thinks I’m nuts, but I’m such a collector.

    My pets:
    Fenrir – Ghost Wolf
Shazzam – Gezzarak (Black Warp Stalker)
FreeHugs – Sapphire Hive Queen (Huge Wasp)
    To be mine:
Ooze-alisk and Hydralisk. Names pending. Currently I got Uhk’loc, the White/blue monkey. Named him Stormcloud. I don’t want to let him go, but I’m running out of slots.

  17. Good luck in getting the right quest from the Oracles.

This is the way the hunter class advances: at level 70 3 stable slots weren’t enough. At level 80, 5 slots aren’t enough in exactly the same way.

  18. Damita – yeah i know, just wanting to know if she really is fixed and taht she still will remain tameable when the patch hits.

  19. i was looking for an unusual tenacity pet. have a gorilla, but wanted something fun. i did try out the hydra, but the sounds were snarly, loud & non-stop. lovely to look at, but annoying as all hell. however, that being said, i did tame & am keeping the slime. named him “what”. constant bubbling sound, but so much more maneageable for a fun pet.

but, my favorite pet’s still my dreadsaber “Samual”.

ps, had the queen wasp. WAY too big. being unmanageable (not to mention it’s hard to target around her), unfortunately, overshadows her beauty. if they shrunk the Scholo wasps down, in a second!!!!

  20. Trowabarton – ty. the alliance mark and pvp text next to her makes me happy.
looks like i might have to go tame her again and maybe this time when the patch hits she will bite horde back and not just stand there like a huge non-combat pet. :)

Have you tested her in a dungeon? the priest that helped me taming her the first time could inded buff and heal her after the tame, but could not do anything inside an instance, no healz no buffs, nothing. not even ferosious inspiration would trigger. So i let her go in the belive this would end up just like the Death Ravager.

  21. Not sure what is going on today, but i did happen to get Hive Queen to level 80 today…and she seesm to be doing comparable dps with Cats and carrion Birds. I am still gettig the best dps from Moths though. Thius is on live play and not the PTR, so i don;t know what will happen when the patch comes. For me, Moths are the way to go for max dps. On another not, I have my slime doing 1700+ crits on a consistant basis. not bad for a ferocious pet. the only problem is, gotta have Bad Attitude, kill Command and bestal Wrath going at the same time. So,you get about 19 seconds of great dps and over a minute of not so great dps. lol same hold true for crocs and the hydra (natutally). Gonna go ahead and try some of the Cunning pets now, since I have a week to experiment. i’ll keep posting my finding on here.

  22. looks like she works like any warp stalker now b4 idk if any1 noticed i bealive she had the same model as the dal hunter pet warp stalker who was also unbuffable exct blah blah amd some fixed codeing by bliz L8r and now its fixed and does everything my other pets can do

and it keeps the LIGHTNING N FIRE :D

imo hardest tank pet to get but sooo worth it go get urs back

  23. Trowabarton – Backbitter in Dalaran is the only one that shares the same colors. its the pet of a npc so i dont see why people would go on and buff it XD
im trying to get more people to confirm this atm,
but i will sometime during this week go and gnab Gezzarak again. the priest has already said yes to helping me whenever we both got the time.

  24. lol i was bored n wanted to beast lore it

bring more then a priest ur talking pally stuns or pally healers they can hammer stun or druids who can take hits (and shadowmeld) cuz wow she loves to change agro i think more pets should be as hard to tame as she was also place ur back against a tree ull still get charged but u wont fly lolgl 1 sham is a must for hero faster tame

ok since ive been trying to be such a big help i have a question…
has any1 found out why bliz is making hive queen untameable ive seen no bugs could it be a move by blizz to create a ghost wolf status pet?

  25. “has any1 found out why bliz is making hive queen untameable ive seen no bugs could it be a move by blizz to create a ghost wolf status pet?”

Not sure I understand the question here, but judging by how it sounds they’ve fixed Gezzerak, she’s working far better than any “fixes” Blizzard would do for my ghost wolf. It was one year ago today exactly that my wolf was made untameable, yet my little Odin still suffers from some major flaws. He cannot run, nor can he do the idle animation howl. The howl really doesn’t bother me since he has a unique soundset, but the fact that he cannot “run” drives me nuts.

Think Im gonna go suggest they fixed ghost wolves’ running animation to be fixed, cause yanno, seriously if they’re gonna fix one pet in a few months but not one pet in a year…

  26. yea i agree on the ghost wolf ive got the speed walker 2 and i wish he howled

as for the wasp why are they makeing him untameable it cant be quest boss cuz he respawns sooo fast and theres a ape quest boss in ungoro whos tameable does he have unknown gliches?

  27. aww the ghost puppy aint that bad. (i love my little Lycan) he does run when he have to. it would be sweet with a ghost howl, but in the end these are just minor issues that doesnt affect its performance, like the curent live gezzarak.

for the queen…the only reason i can think of would be the “idea” of it beeing the big queen wasp that wont budge to a mere hunter….somewhat like the elite green bird Torgos in terokkar forest. there is no good reason for you not beeing able to tame it other than that its “THE” Torgos.like its worth more than to become a pet..eh sounds silly XD
    .
    ..
id want a green bird of terror..

  28. Trowabarton – i forgot to say. the first time we did have a pally with us, not sure if he wanna go through it again though.
but it all took so long and me trying to build some aggro on her i managed unintentionaly to burn her down to like….400-600hp, by then when not warping around, she was so sluggish and would only walk, that i managed to tame her without the stun. oh the pally did stun her everytime his cd was ready and i was trying to tame but all the time she would knock me over after it or run to the healer :(

  29. hy88 – Try bringing a rogue as well. What I did to tame Gezzarak was kept haste armor from quests, kept a few potions of speed for a few attempts, had a rogue friend help me, and a pally friend came and helped as well on the attempt that I got her.

The haste set I had + the potion took my tame beast channeling length down to around 14 seconds. I summoned Gezzarak and ran to a decent taming range (a good way to do that is have the rogue stand on the skull pile, target you as you go to full range. They have abilities that are around 20 yards and can tell you when you’re at the edge of their range.) Then lay a trap there for a visual marker of where to run to once you’ve summoned.

-Summon Gezzarak, run to the range-marker, pop haste potion, begin tame beast
-The rogue uses their misdirect on you and uses any stuns they can. When kidney shot runs out (and ventrilo helps wonders with this) have them call out for the paladin to stun. [THIS IS IMPORTANT] – When your rogue is finished getting the stun off, they NEED to vanish! Otherwise they still will likely have higher threat than you. The misdirect to you is so that the pally won’t pull aggro when he/she stuns.
-Paladin uses hammer of justice, and the tame finishes. (Again, this is with enough haste to drop the tame beast time down to 14-15 seconds, so make sure you have haste OR bring another paladin for a second stun.)

I hope this helps anyone interested in taming Gezzarak, I have yet to see anyone else with her, and while she’s bugged, she’s still my absolute favorite pet so far. =)

  30. I tamed Gezzarak with a shaman using Earth Shield and Heroism while i summoned her, then he quickly took his flying mount and flew away, so Gezzarak didn’t charge at him. I also had a druid cast Regrowth on me (he did the same trick with his flying mount) but I don’t know if the healing-over-time is neccesary…

And I ask again: Does anyone know if the lower level moths (the ones on Bloodmyst Isle) are tameable now? Has anybody checked? :P

  31. in total boredoom today i went to try and solotame gezza, after 5 tries i did manage, used a substitute pet to keep her busy while i got ready with deterance, gift of the naru and haste trinket.
noticed something though. right after the tame she worked perfectly. got the alliance sign next to her, was pvp marked and would trigger ferosious inspiraton and she could be missdirected. though when i mounted up she changed back into the bugged self. now waiting for patch to hit and beg she really gets fixed.

  32. It would be interesting to see if the Hydralisk, ooze-lisk and the ghost-o-lisk were to be classified as spirit beasts, along with the Grimtotem wolf, also if Blizzard would get rid of the stomping around

But it is also annoying to here ROAR from the damn spirit beast now, and of course we also have devilsaurs and corehounds that stomp around, and I have seen WAAAY more of those than hydras

Still, ALL hydras should be tameable, in a class of their own, with 3 headed strike!

  33. I don’t think the roar from the Spirit Beast is annoying at all. I hardly hear it when I’m in a raid. Though, I have to say despite everyone’s hopes and dreams, I’m tired of people hoping the hydralisk and ghostwolves becoming spirit beasts XD They’re not going to be. No pet family looks that drastically different within itself. Worgs resemble wolves, no wolf-like creature is going to be a cat right? Well expecting a hydra and wolf to become the feline-like spirit beast family is also far outside the realm of reality D=

As for Hydras being their own hydra family, Yes. That SHOULD be implemented.

On another note, I went to tame Gezzarak and let me say:
HOLY CRAP. That really was probably the hardest tame I’ve ever had. And the longest. Even more then ghost wolf. She kept warping all over the place. Finally backed inbetween two trees where the shaman was out of LoS and she stayed put long enough for me to tame. Totally worth it =)

  34. From of couple of recount damage calculators, this is what i got for the T rex, Raptor, and Wolf.

When I tried them all for 5 mins with the exact same buffs with everything this is what is got for damage.

    T rex was third.
    Raptor was second.
    Wolf was third.

I’ll try cat at some point to see if they are making it one of the best dpsers again but from what I have heard was that cats actually got nerfed.

  35. I need to level my hunter and find room for the crocoslime and hydra >.< And possibly Gezz :P

I’m surprised raptors are doing so well, dps-wise, with their longer cooldown family skill. I abandoned my raptor not long after the patch when I noticed my bear had higher dps :(

  36. Rikaku – Im not sure you understand the concept of Spirit Beasts. The word beast implies ANY beast and not just felines. The attack itself is also not designed towards any of the other families. Therefore any creature could be a ‘Spirit’ beast. Whilst cats also have prowl you could view the Spirit Beast prowl as an extention of its spirit nature. So it would not be unfeasable for the Ghost Wolf or Oracle quest spirits to become spirit beasts. However it is less common for them to change quest creatures into tamable ones though it has happened before.
