I’m getting a lot of questions about the pros and cons of each pet family and in particular the pet family skills. But there’s no way that I really test all the pet families in every situation myself, so I want to hear about your experiences with them! (And yes, with 32 pet families this could take awhile.)

As you may have noticed, Petopia had a period of unexpected downtime earlier today when our host suspended us for overloading their servers. (Generally speaking, I’m pretty satisfied with our host, but it’s not their fault when all you people flock to Petopia during scheduled maintenance two days before a new expansion. Bad people! *grin*)
Can you believe that we have less than 48 hours until the Wrath of the King launches? I can’t! Somehow I lost track of time. Just … completely lost track! This is awful! I still have so much to do!
Luckily, most of the WoW community is way ahead of me! Here’s a bunch of links I kept meaning to share before Wrath snuck up on us.
Patch 3.0, with its very pleasant most-pets-are-really-pretty-good changes plus five new pet families, brought a flood of new pets. And the Wrath of the Lich King expansion later this week is going to add another 115 or so tameable pets, including two completely new families and a whole bunch of completely new pet looks.
All these new choices — plus the extra stable slots we have now — mean that lots and lots of hunters are picking up new pets. And those pets need names. And that means another round of Name That Pet! But … I’m having some problems with the Name That Pet feature.
I noticed a few days ago that BRK was organizing another of his events, this one in memory of Ezra Chatterton, the young fellow who gave us Kyle and Ahab Wheathoof.
I had every intention of posting about this event in the hopes that a few of my readers might participate or, even better, donate to the Make A Wish Foundation. Unfortunately, I completely forgot that the event was scheduled for today, and by the time I got home this evening it was over.

Speaking of popular new pets, there’s the gorilla. And you can’t blame them for enjoying their new-found popularity — what pet doesn’t deserve a turn in the limelight?
Today we have three gorilla-owners looking for the perfect name for their new furry friend. First up is Adams, a pun-loving dwarven hunter. Adams writes:
I’d like some assistance in naming a Gorilla I happened accross. My hunter’s name is Adams. He has had a variety of pets.
Ghostcrawler posted on the Blizzard Damage Dealing forum this evening looking for some feedback specifically about the way that Defensive pets now behave:
We recently changed the way defensive stance works for pets. In the old design, the pet would not attack a target that you were attacking until it did something to generate threat - typically attacking you. In the new design, as soon as you attack a target, the pet will attack the target too. Our thinking was that this made defensive a little easier to use and you still have passive to override that behavior.
I thought I was all clever posting a red devilsaur and a white devilsaur the day after the US presidential election, but unfortunately there’s no blue devilsaur to round out the visual pun. Blizzard, we need a blue devilsaur!
