Do you remember that presumed bug back in beta that let hunters tame a ghostly crocolisk, plus a ghostly hydra and an ooze that thought they were crocs?
Yeah, well … apparently it never got fixed.
That’s me there with my new pet “crocoslime”, who is as yet unnamed. Isn’t he just soooo adorable?
The Pets
All three pets — the ghostly crocolisk, the hydra, and the ooze — believe that they are crocolisks. Before you name them, their default name is Crocolisk. Like crocolisks, they eat meat and fish, they have Tenacity talents, and their family skill is Bad Attitude.
I haven’t yet played enough with my slime to know if there are any other weirdnesses with these pets (other than their basic nature, of course), but that is always a possibility with something that seems unintended like this.
How to Get Them
In order to tame these three beasts, you need someone to summon them. They are summoned as part of the daily Oracle quest “A Cleansing Song” in Sholazar Basin.
In order to get to the daily quest, you first have to finish the entire Oracle/Frenzyheart quest chain that starts with “Playing Along” and ends with the group quest “A Hero’s Burden”. During “A Hero’s Burden”, you kill Artruis the Heartless, who forces you to choose whether you will align with the Oracles or the Frenzyheart Tribe. (You can change your mind in the future by attacking Artruis and choosing again.) Once you choose the Oracles, you can start their daily quests, including “A Cleansing Song”.
[edit] As pointed out in the comments, “A Cleansing Song” is randomly available, not available every day. I got it the first day so I didn’t realize that. Thanks to Behemot for the correction!
Or you can skip all that and just find someone to summon the beasts for you. Once they are summoned, they are tamed like any other creature. The spirits are non-elite and not immune to frost traps. Keep in mind, however, that all three spirits are level 80.
The crocolisk is the Spirit of Ha-Khalan and is summoned from the shores of River’s Heart. The hydra is the Spirit of Atha and is summoned from the shores of Bittertide Lake. And the ooze is the Spirit of Koosu and is summoned from the shores of the Wintergrasp River.
By the way, my sincere thanks go out to Vafrous of the guild Ex Obscurum, who helped me with the nasty group quest in the chain not once but twice (after the first time bugged out and I had to log out to help the husband with a contract), and who also helped me tame my pretty slimer. For his pains he now has a “hydradile” named Franka. That’s him to the right.
Caution
And just to be clear: It is extremely likely that being able to tame these creatures is a bug and that Blizzard will fix this bug sooner or later. Since the ooze and hydra are not part of a normally tameable beast family (oozes aren’t even beasts!) it is quite possible that the existing tamed pets will be removed from any hunters that have them, or shapeshifted into a normal croc or something along those lines.
So tame these beasts if you want to, but don’t expect them to be permanent!
[edit] And .. err .. my apologies the the posters on my own forums, especially Kweri, who posted about this 5 days ago. *cough* I’m still kinda out of it after a week of leveling, I admit.
Yep they havn’t removed the daily and it’s still tameable.
I’m surprised blizz hasn’t done anything about this…. looking at the forums i see no blue posts, and looking at the PTR patch i still havn’t seen any bug fix on these pets.
They acturally might make it a proper pet 0.o
If anyone on the PTR is able to get this quest, could someone check if their tameable there?
I just tested them on the PTR (build 9386) and the hydra and slime, at least, can still be tamed.
I just tamed both hydra and ooze, I really prefer the hydra, I like the animation on it (the head constantly fighting each other, really nice to login and see my hunter with it in the background ^^) but the screech it makes every 5 seconds is kind of annoying ^^
Just a thought but going with the whole “Can’t feed a pet and it runs away” thing, if you have a Glyph of Mend Pet, you can just spam that until your pet becomes happy.
Thats what I do so I don’t have to waste money on food. 8D
Or Carrion Feeder? That restores Happiness.
4 weeks now, keep getting Song of Fecundity and Song of Wind and Water :S
I tamed the Ooze and the Hydra after many days of “Is the patch tomorow? Is it going to be removed? WHen am I going to get that stuped daily?!!”. Needless to say I love my Hydra (Named Seamist, although I am going to rename him.) THe sounds don’t bother me, usualy I have music on anyway so I don’t notice.
I’ve been wondering, anyone have the “problem” where the hydra can attack an enemie from much farther away then a normal pet? He doesn’t seem to have to move towards casters that are 5 or 6 yards away. Hmm. Not that big a problem, really, but interesting.
Still thinking of a name for the Ooze! I don’t think there are any mythical piles of goo, are there? :-)
I wish i could tame these pets!!!
please blizz make them spearit beasts!!!
As of patch 3.0.8, these pets are no longer tameable, as well as Gezzark the Huntress. Since I’m the worst Hunter ever, and no one on the Azjol-Nerub server ever tames anything but gorillas or wolves, I don’t know if you got to keep these beasties prior to the patching.
I know, because I did everything to get to the quest to tame the Hydra, (after spending an hour or so to try to get enough Time-Lost scrolls to summon Gezz), and I got the ol’ red message of doom: “creature not tameable.”
Tamed my ooze before 3.0.8. Name . . . “OozeYerDaddy”
