“I’m a Petopia fan too.”
I’ve been playing way, way too much the past few days. But as far as I can tell, everyone else is too, so I can’t feel too terrible about it. (Although I can feel somewhat hung-over from lack of sleep.)
But I did want to share something that happened to me yesterday — no, wait … earlier today. (What day is it again?) This isn’t the sort of thing I want to encourage, but it is kinda cute.
So I’m logged in on Mania, waiting on the platform outside Orgrimmar for the zeppelin to Warsong Hold in Borean Tundra. (Aside: I much prefer Borean Tundra to Howling Fjord.)
It’s just me and my cat Cloud, waiting patiently, but then a level 70 hunter runs up with his black devilsaur. (Since I didn’t ask him about posting this, he will remain nameless — unless he happens by to claim his identity. He did happen by! As he posted in the comments, it was indeed Nenva and his devilsaur Killasaur that I met.)
“Nice name”, he says.
I look around. I’m the only other one there — well, me and Cloud — but neither of us exactly have interesting names. I do have my own one-person guild, Arcania, but unless you know about this blog that’s not terribly interesting either.
“Who, me?” I ask.
He nods.
“Thanks!” It’s only polite to thank people for a compliment, even if you have no idea why they’ve delivered it.
“I’m a Petopia fan too,” he adds.
Oh, I get it. Maybe he does know about the blog. That’s cool that he recognized me by name. Very few people do (which is generally a state of affairs I prefer, since I wouldn’t want any of my frequent screw-ups in game to reflect on the site).
I answer, “Well that’s good to know!”
And then he floors me.
“You even made your character look like her, like that person that runs Petopia,” he says.
I burst out laughing, in-game and out. Here’s someone who knows what Mania looks like (okay, so I did just post a picture, but still — how weird is that?) and doesn’t know I play on his server. But even weirder, he thinks I made a … what? a tribute character and guild?
Now that sounds like I’m making fun of him, but I’m not. I was just surprised — very surprised. So after a pause, I answer: “I’m not terribly surprised that I look like her.”
The zeppelin arrives and we board. I see him studying me, targeting first me and then Cloud and then me again, probably inspecting my inferior equipment. Finally he asks:
“Wait, are you the REAL Mania?”
And I have to laugh again. There’s probably a Mania on most realms, and I bet very, very few of them ever get that question. Or have any idea who I am, for that matter. But I know what he means, so I just say, “Yes.”
“No way!”
“Way!”
“OMG!” And then we zone into Northrend.
He hadn’t been there before, so after we arrived we wished each other good hunting and I watched him run off excitedly. I’m sure he’ll have a blast there.
So anyway, here’s a long post for a very nice hunter and his very cute black devilsaur. Yes, I am this Mania, and yes, I’m a Petopia fan too. *grin*

I think that’s very sweet. That you DIDN’T make fun of him, even though it would’ve been easy. You have fans. *Yet another myth debunked: Mania- Real person with inferior gear, actually playing the game. Ranks right up there with,: Females- actually DO play WoW. Love your site, My hunter character would be lost without it. /kiss
Frankly, and I think I can honestly speak for everyone that logs onto this wonderful site, I would be honored beyond belief to meet you in-game. Just for the simple fact, that Petopia.com has become invaluable to game play, and you being the fanatic pet lover like the rest of us, makes it that much better.

Petopia is what got me hooked into Hunter’s in the first place. Now I have 3. None of them have ever been anything but BM spec, none of them have ever raided and only one has ever grouped with any regularity. I play my Hunters to have fun, for cash and for solace. If I had never stumbled across Petopia, while I was researching the class to figure out a Hunter’s role in a raid, I probably never would have started one.

Hello Mania!
I ran into you today as well. (Well, before the server shut down anyway.) It was really strange; there was an idiot in /1 of Borean Tundra asking “where cn i get a kewl pet,” to which my usual reply is, “go look at Petopia. It’s the awesome.” And then, like some jaunty Victorian play you entered stage left to say “I think so too.” I was expecting BRK to chime in with: “Oh, and tame a rhino” as well.
And then I twigged who you are, anf gushed how awesome Petopia is, naturally. If you need to run Utgarde Keep and/or Nexus I’ll be more then happy to tank it on my main, Fuzz ;) Sadly my hunter is being levelled as soon as get my warrior to 80, and he’s geared enough for Naxx. In my heart I am hunter, and get overly excited about pets too much <.<

Its always exciting when you actually meet someone who’s a big influence on you. I myself have had some peple ask me If I’am the Makoes who posts on petopia, and I always /lol and say yes and then usually give them a free enchant if I have mats on me (and if I have something useful for them.)
But yeah, wish I could meet the real Mania /lol.

I have to say, Mania, Petopia is one of the main reasons I rolled a hunter when my husband first convinced me to play. I spent a good couple hours looking through the different pets and such. As soon as I found out that there was a purple tiger I could tame? I rolled a hunter. XD (I don’t have one now, though. I tamed an orange tiger from STV at level 30 and she’s been my main pet ever since.)
Now I continue playing a hunter since it’s the one class I can really get into and really love. Any alt I roll that isn’t a hunter doesn’t make it past level 12. XD

I once had some one say “Hey are you the Emowin who often helps name pets on petopia?” (Its one of my fave things to do on your sight) and when I answered “yes” He thanked me and told me he used one of the names I posted. YAY! Not only are you a celebrity you create them to rofl.
I share a realm with Mania’s alliance alt Kaet, but unfortunately thats not my hunter. Plus, I am a bit shy about talking to celebrities. *grins* But seriously, it just never occured to me to do a /who to ever see if she was on. *Laughs*

With 300+ realms, just in the US, it’s amazing that so many of us do end up on the same ones. But yeah, I play Horde on Farstriders and Alliance on Sentinels — two RP realms, you’ll note, although I don’t do much active RP. I have my own tiny guild on both of them, largely for the guild bank but also so people stop sending me random guild invites.
If any of you happen to see me on, please do feel free to say hello — although note that since I am easily distracted, I may very well be AFK (which usually means I wandered off to watch TV or do the laundry and forgot to log out).
I do indeed, my friend, my warlock is there, and am myriad of other little alts. I didn’t even realize Kaet was there until a few months ago when you mentioned it.
I had a similar moment when I met Niami Denmother in EQ2 who ran the EQ2Traders website. It is fabulous when you meet someone who has influenced how you play the game.

I once ran into someone named Bamoo on the EQ2 test server. It turned out to be Brash Endeavors. We were both terribly surprised since we didn’t realize the other played EQ2. :>
That does remind me, if you ever need a healer and DPS on Sentinels, lemme know. Argial is my warlock there, and I have acess to a few willing helpers. Working on a tank at the moment. Itty bitty casual guild.

I’m a Farstriders resident also. I’ve seen you around quite a few times, Mania, but I always thought it was a tribute character. I can’t tell you how many times a day I tell people to come here for hunter information. If you ever need help with a group quest or feel like seeing the inside of an instance just let me know and I’ll be glad to help make it happen.

I made an RP character on Farstriders once, played her for a couple levels, and deleted her. Now I just RP on Hellscream. I haven’t gotten any funny looks yet, even with my emotes to NPCs or random descriptions of the current situation and/or landscape. I don’t find it awkward at all. :P
Was there a point in there? Anyway, like everyone who just read Nevra’s post, and everyone who is a huge fan of yours, you know I have to make a character on Farstriders. Sorry! :P
As for Sentinels… eh… no Alliance for me. I find their side rather boring. :P
Thats okay Tashi, I find the horde to be barbaric and overly brutal. Plus, I loathe and detest the undead and the blood elves, no offense to anyone. Later day blood elves, once they get the !@#$ over themselves aren’t so bad, but for a while there, they were just evil.
I did not mean to trigger such a response, just stating my opinion. It’s not that I hate Alliance, just that I’ve abandoned every Alliance character I’ve had, simply for the reason that I don’t particularly enjoy them as much as I do my Horde characters. I do, however, enjoy the Draenei race. :)
My main is a blood elf, so thank you for the “no offense” part of your post. None has been taken. :)

I have a BE hunter I RP with on a normal realm (Durotan), he even has a whole backstory. :D I nearly always solo with him anyway, so noone has said anything to me either.
Its just a matter of opinion, Tashi, and mine varies from yours. I find the horde lands to be far and away more boring then the alliance ones. Everyone has a different feel that they go for. As for the blood elves, eh, that is more of me despising what Blizzard did with a noble race. I highly doubt every elf in Silvermoon would have gone “HEY!! Thats a great idea! Lets hold a Naruu captive for power!” Just….drives me insane. The whole idea was simply to give the horde a ‘pretty’ race. Just….gah…..
That, of course, is not saying I don’t like Blood elf or horde players in general. I don’t think I’ve met a horde player here on the Arcania that I don’t like. My experience with the horde on my servers doesn’t constitute the behavior of the horde as a whole.
Blood elves irritate me. Durotar, the Barrens, and (to a lesser degree) Mulgore irritate me. I really don’t like forsaken. And all of my characters above level 20-some-odd are Alliance (or, more specifically, draenei).
However…humans and gnomes irritate me, Elwynn Forest bores me, I’ve gotten really tired of Bloodmyst Isle, and Dun Morogh gives me psychosomatic Raynaud’s attacks (oddly, other snowy zones don’t have the same effect…go figure). So…your mileage may vary.

Hehe. That made your day, I bet Mania. I’ve had one similar occurance, since my characters are legion and there are a few other Tzia’s out there you can’t always be sure if the hunter running next to you with Tzia is actually me or not, but I was in Stormwind one day on one of the Alliance Tzia’s I have, and a little lowbie NE hunter wandered up to me and asked if I was “…that Tzia from Havebow?” I giggled for about 10 minutes after that.
And don’t be suprised if I show up on Farstriders or Sentinels at some point just to say hi and end up staying and playing… hey it happened with BRK’s Server!
