What’s Wrong & How To Fix It
The rash of hunter and pet changes in Patch 3.0 and Wrath of the Lich King have generally been pretty welcome. But changes often bring bugs and similar weirdnesses, and this time was no exception.
But the WoW hunter community has kicked into gear with some nice posts on bugs you may run into and various ways to deal with those bugs. With no further ado:

Ah! Finally! Something to stop the Autocast issue! Thank Mania :)
(Oo, first!)
Thor
Hey Mania & everyone else in here.
Now that we talk about issues – am I the only hunter having problems with my Chimaera’s Dash ability?
I am also having a few issues with Zolom (my fuzzy worm) when I send Zolom in to attack the target manually, he “Glitches” towards the target and then just comes back to me…No problem if I attack first, or if I am being attacked, just when I send him in first…
To use macros is no solution to the problem – macros don’t show the cool-down and take away valuable space in the action bars!
Blizzard needs to get this severe(!) bug fixed ASAP!
Aggro… wierdness ;)
At 70, a crocolisc can barely hold aggro, a gorilladin has no problems at all (ok, the ape uses an AoE to taunt with damage, without it, the aggro is comparable to a croc, thus too low).
Don’t know, how/if this will sort out at higher levels…
The butt-chasing with it’s following “area-dance” is still there, leads to a lot of button smashing to position the pet and the target :(.
(“area-dance” := pet and mob are circling each other while dancing through the hole area and collecting adds).
My guess is, there will be several changes incoming…
Hey Makoes, it sounds much like my chimaera…
The weird is, I think it’s only when he uses dash, I’m not sure yet :/
Zolom uses Charge I believe….so maybe its a bug with the dash/charge speed things… Also, I still have to turn cower off every time I login or switch pets…its very annoying…why doesnt Blizz just get rid of Cower? I dont think anyone actually uses it…
@Ghanur: if the macros aren’t displaying the cooldown properly with only #showtooltip, add a #show line as well.
@Makoes: The bug with pet stutter-stepping for autocast ranged attacks still exists. Does your worm behaves better with Acid Spit switched off until it reaches the target?
I disagree with the folks calling this a major bug though… it’s something which is mildly annoying to members of a single class, easily worked around with the builtin UI, doesn’t cause server stability problems and doesn’t cause any balance problems in PvE or PvP. Of such things, major MMO bugs are not made.
I’ll give that a try, thx Nimizar.
Hmm, my pronouns got a little ambiguous at the end there: “this” refers to the autocast bug, not the stutter step bug (although even the latter isn’t a major bug as MMO issues go).
@Minizar
I don’t know, but functions turning on randomly is a major BUG.
Building macros for everything that the game should handle without fault, is no solution – there are far too few action buttons already!
For a class with only one button (labeled “I WIN!!11!”), adding several buttons more might not be a problem, but as a hunter, it is.
I think the issue with the dash thing is the pet trying to cast it’s special ability and dash/charge at the same time, causing the ‘studder dance’. My worm does the same thing…and also seems to be much farther away from the mob it’s attacking, though I have no problems killing and looting the mob. This may be a graphical error.
Selesti: Yeah, that’s exactly my thoughts too :)
I think it’s because my chimaera is trying to use Froststorm Breath while dashing – it’s pretty annoying, because it takes a bit longer for the pets that have this problem to get to the mob you want to attack :/
Btw, just call me Icecrystal from now on, because that’s my main’s name /lol. xD
(Oh, and sorry if my english is bad :))
Thanks for the links, Mania.
I’m currently having issues with pet pathing in and under water; my rhino Rocksteady seems to get stuck on invisible terrain off the shores of Borean Tundra. It’s particularly bad near Winterfin Cave; there’s a spot there that desummons him every time I swim over it. Not anywhere near as irritating as constant Dash/Charge bugs, but it makes doing water-based quests difficult.
Sedna: I had the same problem with my cat. He just didn’t want to cross the underwater gorge between Winterfin Retreat and Winterfin Caverns.
Mania, aren’t cats affraid of water? ;)
Lol, just kidding. I got the same problem with all my pets. :/
Lol, Icecrystal.
“But…but…there’s whales down there! With big pointy teeth!”
Lol xD
And here I got a Devilsaur aswell…
He’s affraid of whales?! O.o
lol
I was once diving, can’t remember why though…
But I had my eagle with me, and she was actually flying/swimming randomly around, like she was exploring – it looked pretty weird xD
Also, I was in that Alliance camp in Dragonblight (Wintergarde Keep?), and I had to take a ride to another camp (I really cant remember the name).
But for some reason my wolf didn’t dismiss, and he was like… Um… Hanging on the Gryphon’s belly all the way xD. Flying wolf!
I had the same thing as Icecrystal with my non-combat wolf, except he was flying along behind me instead of riding the windrider! This was during a quested flight (ie someone flying me to an area and throwing me on the ground when I get there) in the Tundra.
Thanks for the links, Mania :)
Yeah it was a quested flight for me aswell. From WinterGarde Keep to that Alliance camp in Grizzly Hills. (Amberpine Lodge?)
Right now I’m not using macros to fix this issue. Instead I noticed that any skills you have on your pet’s skill bar WILL NOT reset to autocast! With my Ghostsaber Dethkat I put cower, prowl, and dash on the skill bar with one free space for any other skill. It seems that these problematic skills only reset to autocast if they aren’t on your pet’s skill bar. Therefore I leave growl, rake, and claw off the skill bar since I have them set to autocast anyway. Hope this helps anyone who doesn’t want to macro ^^
