Name That Pet: Silithids Galore

Name That Pet: Zinagaro & SilithidFinal Names:
Zinagaro: Neretzek
Luminial: Sharpjaw
Knyghtlander: Dizz
Nessima: Nefertiti

I was going to call today’s post “A Bouquet of Silithids”, being that we have four lovely creatures in four different vivid and beautiful colors. But silithids are perhaps a little bit too deadly to be going around calling ‘em delicate flowers.

First up is Zinagaro, a troll hunter from the Thrall (PvE) realm. Zinagaro writes:

My name is Zinagaro and I need a spot of help. I can’t think of any great names for this absolutely awesome pet. Hopefully I’ll get some great suggestions from the community though.

Being a Troll, I usually tend to name my pets something that sounds primal in nature — I admit to being a WoWnerd on that part. I love exploring the vast regions of Azeroth in the daytime and raiding at night.

I often had thoughts of what would happen if we could ever tame the silithids, and to my surprise now we can. So out of compassion from old school raiding in AQ I decided to befriend my once-hated enemy, the silithid. Any suggestions are welcome.

Name That Pet: Luminial & SilithidNext up is a blood elf hunter named Luminial (or Lumi, as her friends call her) from Zul’jin. Lumi writes:

Ever since the patch, I’ve been going out, testing the new exotic pets. And this is my newest pet, a Silithid. I am gonna use him in PvP for his web ability. Despite not being on an RP server, the story may contain some RP-like stuff since I am an RPer at heart

Luminial the Blood Elf was everything a Hunter should be. Swift, deadly, cunning… She fearlessly stood up to any enemy with a pet by her side. Her first pet, Aidyn, was a beautiful Springpaw Cat from the Eversong Woods.

The two were pretty close, but eventually the poor cat came to a disease which caused him to grow wild and violent. Lumi was forced to release him, sadden by her loss. Not long after, she got a new pet, an armored boar from a place known as Razorfen Kraul. He became her main pet, defending her against any enemy who dared to threaten her. The two hunted all kinds of enemies and defeated them.

Not too long ago, Lumi learned that the Devilsaur, a huge beast that looked like a T-rex, was now tameable. Excited, she placed her boar Dreadtusk away in a stable and rushed to get herself a Devilsaur. She found a beautiful pure white and purple Devilsaur, which became hers within minutes.

She named him “Whitefang” due to his color and his sharp fangs. As she began to leave, she saw something yellow. She saw it. A cunning-looking creature, which she later learned was called a Silithid. She decided at one point, she would tame one.

After training her Devilsaur to perfection, she went back to the former home of Whitefang. She searched all over, eventually finding the Silithids. Finding one away from the others, she took her chance. She began to tame it. Instinctively, the beast attacked in self defense. She shut an eye, enduring the harsh blows.

Her spirit began to bond with this beast’s. Their minds becoming one. Their very being began to come together, becoming one. And finally, the beating creased, and the creature stood by her side, ready for action. With a small grin, Lumi went off, her new pet following loyally behind her…

And now, I want to find a name for him. As you’re aware, my two other pets are Dreadtusk the boar and Whitefang the devilsaur; I want a name that is similar to those two. Something in the front, with the name of a body part on the silithid. Try to make it sound cunning-ish, or a name any Alliance would think twice of messing with. Thank you for the help!

Name That Pet: Knyghtlander & SilithidNow let’s hop over to the Alliance side! Knyghtlander, a night elf hunter from the Fenris realm, writes:

After having come of age AFTER the final battle atop the world tree, Knyght felt the hero’s call. As he started his journey out from Teldrassil, he could feel the bonds of the various animals around him. So it was that he decided he would answer the Hero’s call as a Hunter.

He tamed many animals as he worked his way around the world. Traveling to many places, even dangerous ones. He traveled to the Outland where even more exotic beasts called home. Finally he settled on two of them: WinterHarte (named after his druid partner for she loved serpents and was enthralled when he found an ice-blue Wind Serpent) and Evangalina, a Dragonhawk he spent many days travesing the Botanica to find and call to him (named after a guildie who was just as much a spitfire as the Dragonhawk).

Now with the frozen wastes of Northrend blowing their cold wind upon the world, Knyght thought back and decided that he must have a third true companion to call friend and partner. He remembered the buzzing wastes of Silithus and decided to try and find what he yearned for there. After settling Eva & Winter into their stable stalls, he embarked out from Cenarion Hold.

Moving quietly thru the dunes and constant background buzz, he almost literally stumbled upon her. Finding himself so close without frighterning her, he set his mind and quietly whistled at her. She whirled around and out of camoflauge. She charged him, but Knyght was ready. He dropped his trap to slow her down, and then started humming the tune he had first learned, hoping by the time she was finally upon him, that instead of feasting upon him, she would instead befriend him.

As luck would have it, his tuneless hum to her worked. She finished her slowed charge, and lightly headbutted him for a tidbit to eat. So Knyght now has found his third friend and partner to continue his journey into the northern wastes with. But alas, what should the saga’s know her as?

This is actually my fourth tame since we now have 5. I also tamed Kurken, but she was already named after my four-legged baby girl. I’ve thought and thought, and haven’t been ableto think of a name for this Ambusher. Not many so far to my knowledge have tamed any of the bugs, but she has proven worthy of the taming so far. I turn to those who are like me and love bein a hunter to help me craft a worthy name.

Name That Pet: Nessima & SilithidAnd finally we have a simple request from a Draenei by the name of Nessima. Nessima writes:

I am a very pet crazy person. So far I managed to level three level 70 hunters. And I aim to tame one of each color pet in the entire game … so alot more hunters are ahead of me.

Anyhow … my latest level 70 hunter just tamed a lovely rare Silith. I normally dont have any trouble naming my pet, but this exotic one is giving me a bit of a headache. :) I’m both looking for fun, serious etc. names. I am not a roleplayer on Nessima.

Nessima’s others pets are the blue cat from Winterspring named Tsunami (I thought that was sooo brilliant), and a tanking turtle named Snøvsen (a Danish name). But my little critter Silith needs a new name … so maybe you could help! :)

[edit] After deciding on the name Nefertiti, Nessima sent along this pic of her newly named silithid:
Name That Pet: Nessima & Nefertiti

We try to help everybody here! So let’s see what we’ve got:

  • Zinagaro, a troll with a blue/green silithid, is up for anything.
  • Luminial, a blood elf with a yellow silithid, needs a name that matches her other pets, Dreadtusk and Whitefang.
  • Knyghtlander is a night elf with a solid backstory and a red silithid that needs a name to match.
  • And Nessima is a draenei with the rare tan silithid who is looking for something fun or serious.

That’s a lot of ground to cover, but I know we can do it! Let’s get started.

Lumi: I’d suggest something like Scytheclaw.

    Silly Silithid names I’ve considered:
    Twitch, Epileptic, Skitter, Jitter, Riddalin

  2. Nirvana - November 1st, 2008 @ 2:02 am EDT

    Hm, some serious names…

Reaper, Sandstorm, Rapier, Neretzek (which is “Blood Drinker” in Qiraji)

  3. shibumi - November 1st, 2008 @ 2:10 am EDT

for some reason ‘blightsting’ came to mind thinking of the slithid for Luminial. kinda fits the pattern.

have to admit, don’t much like those bugs. Didn’t like em much when they stomped me trying to quest em, and don’t much like em now. might have to try one, get over that bit of bias…

How about Seethun? If you are an old school pre BC raider like me, you will get it.

For those who don’t get it, it’s how at least half of your raid would pronounce c’thuns name. God, I used have a macro just for spamming ITS PRONOUNCED KATHOON in raid warning chat.

  6. Sukulatae - November 1st, 2008 @ 4:27 am EDT

Zinagaro: Xurrem from the Rajaxx encounter?

    Lumi: Sharpjaw

    Knyght: Qiraji

    Nessima: Khamsin (desert/sand storm)

  7. Behemot - November 1st, 2008 @ 5:58 am EDT

I always liked the name ‘Adaru’. It means “fear” in sumerian (not a language you see much) and silithids always seemed like things you are supposed to fear.

  8. BloodGod22 - November 1st, 2008 @ 8:07 am EDT

Thats Becouse Silithids are the Zergs of Warcraft, they have Hives in most of the Southern Kalimdor, especialy Desert areas.(Their a spoof of the Arahnoids in Starship Troopers)

  9. Lucasta - November 1st, 2008 @ 8:56 am EDT

Bloodgod22 also has some nice names.

  13. Thorondil - November 1st, 2008 @ 10:13 am EDT

I called mine Trooper, an obvious reference to Starship Troopers, from which the Silithids and Zergs were modelled/based. I’m happy if you wish to use this name too! :D

  14. Luminial - November 1st, 2008 @ 11:33 am EDT

That’s a lot of names. I’ll look them over and see which I like the most. Thank you all again for helping me name my silithid^^

  15. Stagdal - November 1st, 2008 @ 11:45 am EDT

    LockOn

    OnyxDessert

    Tirk

    and Creep

  18. Teridom - November 1st, 2008 @ 1:25 pm EDT

I originally named mine Harpoon, after my (now gone in lieu of a gorilla) scorpid

After a while, I realized that it had a personality all its own, so I decided to call it Sideswipe (fits the clawing, side-hopping, craziness of silithids)

  19. Knyghtlander - November 1st, 2008 @ 3:25 pm EDT

erg/ST bug, i think i shall be naming mine Ricco.. AFter Ricco’s Roughnecks!!

  20. Gwelynora - November 1st, 2008 @ 5:05 pm EDT

For less serious names, I’d suggest “Hungry”. Mine eats 5 times more food than my bear, and (not being my tank pet) it hasn’t died nearly as much.

For more serious names, I like Scythclaw out of the current suggestions. Also, I like to find names for the pet sounds, but I’m having problems thinking anything besides “pur” for their little “rrrr!” battle charge sound. I also like names based off colors, especially using gem names. I’ll list everything for those of us with short attention spans:

    Hungry
    Scythclaw
[something with the battle charge sound]
    Amber
    Emerald
    Turquoise
    Sand[claw?stalker?]
    Ruby
    Quartz
    Rose

  21. Latharanth - November 1st, 2008 @ 6:52 pm EDT

    Onyx

    (dramatic pause)

    lol

  22. Seraje - November 1st, 2008 @ 7:42 pm EDT

    I named mine Igor. ^ ^

I really like Scytheclaw or Blightsting suggestion for Luminial.

  23. Korrupted - November 1st, 2008 @ 9:24 pm EDT

I named my tan one Espresso. He’s always jumping and Hyper like he’s on Coffee.

  24. Swagga - November 1st, 2008 @ 11:26 pm EDT

I called mine Tweaker. You can have the name for yours if you like it. The bug’s tweak left to right constantly.

  25. Selesti - November 2nd, 2008 @ 12:23 am EDT

My silithid is one of my very favorites, though my brand new white devilsaur is starting to really grow on me. I named my Silithid Hibiki, a Japanese male name meaning “Sound” or “echo”. Considering how loud Silithus is, I found it appropriate.

  26. Conga - November 2nd, 2008 @ 1:30 am EDT

hmmm, Dune would fit the tan one and Dancer is perfect for all of them, it’s just the way they move ))

  27. Nessima - November 2nd, 2008 @ 1:39 am EDT

    Dune.. i love it..
That and Expresso are now my new favorites… so many names to choose from… hoow will my poor SIlith ever get a name :)

Thanks for the suggestions so fare.. Good names and good imaginations out there

  28. Chiana - November 2nd, 2008 @ 3:21 am EST

I was trying to name my cute blue silithid a few days ago and decided i wanted the name to reflect how i like his dancing around me all the time even if we were idling in Shat.

First i thought of “Jive” but i didn’t quite like the sound of the word… Finally i named him “Boogie” and i really love him :) i keep him with me at least as long as my lvl 66 corehound (who isn’t named yet, but i think of him as Stompy) is still shaking the ground (actually i wanted to level all three of my new exotics to 70 first but the stomping makes my head ache).

    So here are my ideas:
    Jive
    Boogie
    or maybe Jitterbug ;-)

  29. Nessima - November 2nd, 2008 @ 4:12 am EST

..i logged in to name my Silith Dune.. i love that game… BUT then.. i thougth Dune.. and its a bug.. DuneBug :p.. and i think those cars are a bit.. ugly :P so no name for my Silith yet

  30. Knyghtlander - November 2nd, 2008 @ 10:02 am EST

I thought bout it, and i’ll be actually naming my Silithid Dizz. Since i’ve got a red Ambusher, Dizz was the redhead after Ricco n Troopers. Thank you everyone for your wonderful suggestions. In reference to Dune, i’ll be saving Sha’tain fer a wurm from Northrend.

  31. Jysafayra - November 2nd, 2008 @ 11:08 am EST

Out of all the names, when I tamed my Silithid, I couldn’t help but call the thing “Jitterbug”. When in AQ40, my raid friends would always be saying the dang things were dancing just to mock them (They were having trouble with the place, of course), so I found calling him a Jitterbug was appropriate and addorable.. Although, now I can’t help but sing the song whenever I see the pet on my screen. Do the Jitterbug! Do the Jitterbug!

  32. Noba - November 2nd, 2008 @ 12:12 pm EST

Along the “sithilids live in deserts” theme… I would suggest:
    Sahara (name of a desert)
    Kalahari ( “)
    Sonoran ( “)
    Mojave (”)
Xerocole (the term for animals adapted to live in deserts)
perhaps you could also consider names of precious gem stones that match their colors. Citrine(yellow), Malachite(green), Garnet(usually red) ..ect.

Some silly names: Jitters, Twitch, Raid(the bug spray). all for the way they dont stop moving around, ever.

  33. Ethgrì - November 2nd, 2008 @ 1:22 pm EST

I believe in naming pets based on Blizzard’s extensive lore. Seeing as these (and the entire Quiraji idea) are based on Starcraft’s Zerg, a zerg name seems fitting. Being that this particular creature, much like the fel beasts, were based on the zergling; it seems fitting to call it Zergling.

Well, that’s my vote anyhew. Plus that’s what I named mine.

  34. Nessima - November 2nd, 2008 @ 2:24 pm EST

Nessimas silith final name: Nefertiti. Thanks for all the help. It really set my mind working. I desided i wanted to stay with the Desert theme.. so therefor gave her an Egyptian name. The choises i had in my head was Isis, Nefertiti and Cleopatra..And ive choses Nefertiti
    Thanks again

  35. Ryll - November 2nd, 2008 @ 3:42 pm EST

i read Lumi’s story and thought of Fleat.

    as in fast and agile.

might be able to tie that in with something on the Silithid.

  36. Luminial - November 2nd, 2008 @ 5:08 pm EST

I’ve chosen Sharpjaw for my Silithid’s name. Thank you all for the help^^!

  37. Rottingham - November 2nd, 2008 @ 5:14 pm EST

    Hopper
    Energy
    Jumpy
    Excitment
    BidBadBug
    Arachnattack
    Thumper
All names I would have for a Silithid (If my hunter had exotic, I just switched him from BM to survival because He’s better that way in BGs)

  38. Beastkeepa - November 2nd, 2008 @ 5:27 pm EST

I named my tan silithid Kookies, because its tan and black appearance reminds me of chocolate chip cookies, and im a bit of a goofy person. Naming it after an ingame sweet would sound cool for something ferocious and grotesque as a servant of C’thun named after something positive and apetizing.

Im not sure if this is serious enough, but since most draenei of the playable generation should remember draenor creatures well, but not azerothian ones, and everyone that doesnt pay attention calls my silithid a ravager.

    NotaRavager, if it will fit.

  39. zifero - November 2nd, 2008 @ 6:23 pm EST

    Zinagaro: Skitter
    Luminial: Venomsythe
Khyghtlander: considering you tamed him to brave the frozen wastes of Northrend id say a fiting name would have to be Lichbane
    Nessima: Apples
    Hope you like them :)

  40. blake curry - November 2nd, 2008 @ 9:06 pm EST

id name him beeper or hopper or something like that they jump around =)

  41. Estella - November 2nd, 2008 @ 11:34 pm EST

Normally I’m not good at naming pets, unless I’ve already a theme in mind. I struggled a little with naming my own pink Silithid, but finally just decided to call it ‘Tantrum’ due to these pets’ unusual idle movements.

While I don’t have ready suggestions for the others, one that did pop up in mind for such a bright yellow one, like Lumi’s, was the name “Glow”.

    Good luck!

  42. Messyah - November 3rd, 2008 @ 8:54 am EST

    I named my Silithid “Twitch”

  43. Nevwyn - November 3rd, 2008 @ 7:53 pm EST

I tame one of these playful buggies for my Lady Troll its just adorable. I named mine Dathu, not very creative but since we aren’t allowed spaces in a pets name and I refuse to use squished names I wasn’t able to call it One of Many

  44. Belthazar - November 5th, 2008 @ 3:39 pm EST

I ended up naming mine “Buggers” as a nod to the novel Ender’s Game.

  45. Doomtrain - November 5th, 2008 @ 4:58 pm EST
