Name That Pet: Nuramox

Apparently there’s just something about chimaeras and dwarves. Or maybe it’s Nuramoc in particular — maybe having a huge flapping purple monstrosity by your side is just the bee’s knees for a dwarf. (I guess I shouldn’t really make fun — I mean, Kaet likes crabs.)
At any rate, we’ve got three hunters today that need help finding the perfect name for their purple monstrosity — two handsome dwarven fellows and a very stylish blood elf. The dwarves are up first.

I tamed this beauty on Beta, having gotten quite lucky in finding him at the first time of asking. Live server was a whole different matter and it’s taken me constant circuits of Netherstorm before I finally got lucky today.
For some reason everyone is running around with Core Hounds on my server, which I find a little odd as we are a PvP server and as many of you know, the classes we struggle with are Melee, not Casters.
Anyway, this pet will be my PvP pet, but I am really stuck as to what to name him. (It’s definately a ‘him’ — I checked!) [How?! No, no, I don't really want to know. - ed.]
My pet since level 25 has been the Black Skinned Lion (Humar) who I named Nightfang. My grinding tank is the white Gorilla who is named Avalanche so I like my pets’ names to reflect their appearance and purpose/demeanor somewhat. Night and fang for obvious reasons, and Avalanche because he’s white and hits you like a truck and nothing stands in his way.
What possible names could we have that represent this purple 2 headed monster?? (And avoid the obvious jokes please!!) [Yes, please do! - ed.]

The second dwarf to write in with a request for Nuramoc is Nelmug of Steamwheelde Cartel-EU. Nelmug writes:
The chimera in question is Nuramok from Netherstorm - it took 3 days of hunting for her, and suffering fierce competition a few times before I could claim her as mine.
Nelmug is your average dwarf in many ways, he likes ale and explosives - especially when combined. But instead of just going out and shooting stuff like most of his fellow dwarf hunters he’s usually experimenting with one of his contraptions in an unending quest to modernize the way of the hunt. Despite his good intentions, he hasn’t shown any real success thus far.
The “Big Picture” stuff tends to elude him, he doesn’t really feel concerned about the Burning Legion, the Lich King or such matters. He ‘d rather avoid such dangerous affiliations if at all possible. But the family funds are running low, and as the eldest sun he has started exploring the world out there looking for an opportunity to sell some of his “inventions” and, perhaps, a little fame and glory.
I play on an RP-realm so I’d prefer a mythical or lore-based name.
Finally there’s that stylish blood elf I mention, complete with sombrero. Ethgri of the Runetotem realm writes:

I quite enjoy naming pets after Warcraft and Starcraft lore, such as Mutalisk, but anything’s open. Yes, I have had suggested: PurplePeopleEater, PrplPeplEter, PrplGnomeEter, etc. — and I do enjoy those kind of ideas as well. Anything along these lines and many more is greatly appreciated and nothing could or would be ignored!
Ethgri seems pretty easy going for a blood elf!
Okay, so we need one mythical or lore-based name for Nelmug (on a RP realm, remember), and we’ve got two hunters who are wide open to names. So whaddya think?

I like Prysm, Shard, Nexus, Planar(kinda like a warped demon world, like outlands), or King, Queen, Duke, or Prince(since purple is the color of royalty)
For Torgar:
I think that Frostfury would be a cool name. He slows people down and does breathe ice. Since im betting that the chimera will be PvP, fury seems to add a certain amount of rage. Also, I think it sounds pretty awesome.
For Nelmug, I think Belerophon would work if it fits. Belerophon is an ancient greek hero, said to have killed a chimera by mounting Pegasus and firing arrows from on high out of harms reach. That chimera will certainly be able to kite, and naming it after it’s nemesis will hopefully grant you luck.
For Ethgri:
Purplehaze?
Deeppurple? That chimera seems it might like rocking out pretty hard.
Athgruo? Play off of your name mixed with Duo.

I don’t have any big suggestions of my own atm, but I did want to chip in and wholeheartedly agree that Ethgri IS quite stylish! (Perhaps something like GoingSometwhere for his chimera would fit, heehee.)

Frostbite, Coldshock, Amethist and Predalien are pretty names for a Chimaera.

Eggplant was a good one :) This only works for a green Chimera I think but when I had mine his name was TROGDOR!

All good names. I got lucky finally last night and on a whim went out to Netherstorm. Took a cruise flight around the area and finally came across her. Nuramoc, our wonderful rare 1 of a color Chimaera. I’ve been suprised by the lack of hunters on my server out gunning for her, so into range i went. Button mashed my tame and after all the poison left my system, i had a wonderful new partner to tackle Northren when we can finally sail into the cold north. I had no trouble with a name for my flyin beauty. But for those with trouble.

I like “Amethyst” as a good color-based name (probably best for the female pets). I also like “Froststorm” for a skill-based name. Maybe “Nether-[something]” since he’s a similar color to a lot of netherstorm things like the domes and pink lightning. I’ll list it for the impatient readers

What’s with the “Trogdor” name? There’s a troll hunter in my guild with a devilsaur AND ravager with that name (why both, I don’t know.) Kudos to these guys for finding Numeroc…I’ve NEVER seen it before, and I’m not too inclined to go looking.
I briefly had a brown chimaera named Jirou, which means “second son” in Japanese. Seeing as they have two heads I thought it fit. Otherwise, I love Amethyst and Frostbite.
mmm… What about ”Babyeater”?
Took me forever to name my brown chimaera from Stonetalon, finally named her Keehara after a character in the book Watership Down. I think Frostfury for Torgar gets my vote as well, and it might work for Nelmug as well. For Ethgri I’m not so sure, Eggplant just seems a bit too silly tho (but then, does ‘too silly’ even exist for hunter pet names? ;))
p.s. I agree with Jindar about the ‘Alien’ thing, that’s why I went for an old-school one. The outland chimaeras are just a bit too weird-looking for me.
Perhaps I should have listed my suggestions differently. I didn’t mean the hunter specified shouldn’t use the suggestions for the other hunters.

So Far I’m looking at Eclipse. Babyeater, I’mWithStupid, and Zerg are all amusing names for simple pets and enjoyable. But this pet is more of a mascot, so the many lore based names are very enjoyable and I hope to see more for the next couple of days as I think these over.
i called mine “Mentos” cause of his “fresh” breath :D
So far, i’m liking Belerophon best - having a story behind the name is a big plus in my book. If only it was a bit more pronounceable.
My own search pointed me to Nehebkau, an Ancient Egyptian 2-headed snake. But i have yet to decide on anything.
Named mine Quarm. If you played EQ you will remember the name. Doesn’t look much like Quarm but the best I could come up with and I named all my pets after old EQ bosses =)
I vote Eggplant. I have the blue and white chimera from Winterspring and I named him Deuce.

I like Froststorm the most of the suggested names. For a more mythical feel I suggest Vaghar, Meraxes, or Balerion. Dragons from the GRRM epic. I like Balerion in particular, it sounds a lot like Belerophon but it’s easier to say.
Maelstrom has my vote. Like Tashi I am shocked that I missed that one, considering I’ne named that to my Dragonhawk on my one Horde Toon :P

I guess I join the purple urple club :) Found Nuramoc (lvl 70 don’t ya know) last night after camping out for her (and yes, she is a her, not a him) since this article came out. (44, 76 if you want to know about 7pm server time). Thanks for having info about Nuramoc on Petopia and for having “Name that Pet!” “I can name that pet in 3 letters, Pat”.

I named mine Yama after the Hindi Lord of Death… those black eyes, so creepy. Grats on the tame hunters, it took me 4 days to get mine.
Why don’t you do something like BillandTom or JimandTim thats sorta like what I did when i got my Chimaera
I just finally got this gal after a week of searching. So glad to have all these great suggestions on a name. I was concidering keeping Nuramoc, but will have to think on this - some nice ideas here.
If not taken already or suggested… I would go with “Bahamut” — I know he/she is not a drake, but for some reason, Nuramoc reminds me of the creature of the same name in Final fantasy. And the Outland chimeras do resemble two-headed, flying lizards/dragons…. at least to me.

Not too original I know but I have mine named well…. Nuramoc for now. I might change it eventually (love the certificate of ownership) but for now Nuramoc is one of a kind and I kept the name. Not that I don’t love the whispers telling me how cool it is that I nabbed him but I got tired of answering the “who is that” questions. I tamed this bad boy/girl (could be both.. lol) and named it Helcaraxë. This was a location from the Silmarillion (the J.R.R. Tolkien bible for Middle Earth). The Noldorian Elves had to cross this region between Valinor and Middle Earth in thier efforts to regain the Silmarils from Morgoth. The region was far north and was called the region of grinding ice and many were lost in the crossing- and so shall the opposition in pvp.. woot!!
