As you might imagine, the plethora of new pets in Patch 3.0 has lead to an veritable flood of Name That Pet requests. So I’m gonna cheat and double some up. Today: that sexy black devilsaur!
First up is a request from a troll hunter named Tukuta:
Hi, my name is Tukuta and my pet is a devilsaur. I’m looking for a great name. His name on the PTR was Jaws, but that was a placeholder until I can get him on the real servers. I don’t role-play but here is my devilsaurs story.
I was running in the wilderness when I spotted an elusive and crafty beast. While so large, he always snuck up on me as a young Hunter. Now it’s my turn. I spotted the huge creature’s tracks and followed him to what seemed to be where he was born, an abandoned nest.
He was desperately searching for a friend, so that’s when I learned my destiny, to put this Mighty animal to peace. We have been close ever since, defeating many foes.
I’m looking for a name thats reminds me of a troll, as they seem like dinosaur-y kinda guys. Something to strike fear into the hearts of my enemies.
Next is a troll hunter named Torthrasher from Madoran:
I caught a brand new devilsaur today. It took me a while to track it down in Un’Goro crater — it almost seemed like it was hunting me for a while. I kept getting quick glances of it before it disappeared. I’d like a fierce vicious name able to strike fear into my Alliance foes right before they feel the wrath of my pet and hear the quick twang of my bowstring. I usually play fast and take my enemies down as quickly as possible.
I usually pick my own names for all my pets. I’ve never taken anyone else’s suggestion, but I’ve racked my brain trying to think up a suitable name for this quick and fierce creature and nothing sounds just perfect.
And finally we have a simple request from a night elf hunter named Cronoras:
I’m sure since the patch you’ve been flooded with name requests for the exotic pets that are obtainable right now, but I was hoping I could get you to post my request for a name for my new Devilsaur. I’m looking for all types of names.
So let’s see … we’ve got:
- Tukuta – troll – troll-like, a name to strike fear
- Torthrasher – troll – fierce & vicious name

Troll like names.. Always thought Zulthrak sounded harsh and trolly..
Terror would be without a doubt a good name for a T-Rex.
And Twinkle, if you would like a comedic one!

Subtle/Sneaky would be pretty ironic names for this pet, which I always find amusing!
For troll names, I’d simply look through WoWiki and assemble a name from one of Blizzard’s many NPC/Boss names!

How about something voodoo-y like the war loa Carrefour for the trolls. For the night elf, I don’t know, something Darnassian, like “Tor ilisar’thera’nal!” = “Let our enemies beware!”.
I just found another Darnarssian phrase, “xaxas” = A short title with many meanings, all dire. “Chaos, “fury”, “The embodiment of elemental rage, such as found in erupting volcanos or shattering earthquakes”, “elemental fury”, “catastrophe”.
I’ve been debating on what to name mine. I really like the misspelled names of the Lich King Devilsaurs, King Krush and King Dred. I’ve been trying to come up with something similar without much luck. Right now it’s between something like Gor (Gore) or Kolosso (colossal) but I can’t make up my mind.
For a troll like name, I have a troll hunter named Zarumbai, which I think is very trollish and could work for your Rex. Also, just off the top of my head, there’s Juktala and Dokringo.

Wow wouldn’t think i’d be included into a trio or all of us would have the same devilsaur model lol still haven’t seen that perfect name yet though but I did hear a couple interesting ones thanks so far petopia and keep em coming lol.
I named mine Grimlock, after the Transformer.
Also named my gorilla Beastbox.

I also picked that kind of Devilsaur for my Tauren hunter. I thought Stompy was a fitting name. :)

For the night elf hunter of the bunch, I named my own devilsaur Aistas. It means “impact” according to a elvish-to-common online translator.

General ideas: Someone on my server named hers Ironhide, which I think is suitable. How about simply “Rex?” Doesn’t seem like a bad idea to me.
Here’s what I think for Cronoras: The night elves are a very graceful, quiet race, and for one to run around with something that goes BOOM BOOM BOOM is really all the irony you need. So I would go with serious names, such as Ishnu, Golemm, or Chronos. Something non-compound would look good, but anything that’s not “RAWRLOL” or “BIGSTEAK” or “FEEFIFOFUM” will do.
For the trolls: I’m not really an expert on troll names, but I also think that serious-themed names may be the way to go here. Thorondil’s suggestions are great. I think Thor would suit Torthrasher’s rex and Zulthrak would suit Tukuta’s rex.

My Hunters name is “Nuggiez”, and I named my devilsaur “Nugzilla”. My vote is to do the same, take the first part of your name and append “zilla” to the end. Results may vary. Good luck =P (now if we could just find a way to stop the thundering sound of their walking, we’d be getting somewhere)

I ended up calling mine Kitty for some reason. Seemed fitting.
Other than that something trollish is something with lots of Z’s… so Kraz, Zlik, Wozzik and the likes fits the bill.
People like Pepp bug me out, 1 talent point wont make a HUGE difference in dps… if you cant have fun while playing or raiding with the talents you want then you should reconsider about playing WoW.
