As you might imagine, the plethora of new pets in Patch 3.0 has lead to an veritable flood of Name That Pet requests. So I’m gonna cheat and double some up. Today: that sexy black devilsaur!
First up is a request from a troll hunter named Tukuta:
Hi, my name is Tukuta and my pet is a devilsaur. I’m looking for a great name. His name on the PTR was Jaws, but that was a placeholder until I can get him on the real servers. I don’t role-play but here is my devilsaurs story.
I was running in the wilderness when I spotted an elusive and crafty beast. While so large, he always snuck up on me as a young Hunter. Now it’s my turn. I spotted the huge creature’s tracks and followed him to what seemed to be where he was born, an abandoned nest.
He was desperately searching for a friend, so that’s when I learned my destiny, to put this Mighty animal to peace. We have been close ever since, defeating many foes.
I’m looking for a name thats reminds me of a troll, as they seem like dinosaur-y kinda guys. Something to strike fear into the hearts of my enemies.
Next is a troll hunter named Torthrasher from Madoran:
I caught a brand new devilsaur today. It took me a while to track it down in Un’Goro crater — it almost seemed like it was hunting me for a while. I kept getting quick glances of it before it disappeared. I’d like a fierce vicious name able to strike fear into my Alliance foes right before they feel the wrath of my pet and hear the quick twang of my bowstring. I usually play fast and take my enemies down as quickly as possible.
I usually pick my own names for all my pets. I’ve never taken anyone else’s suggestion, but I’ve racked my brain trying to think up a suitable name for this quick and fierce creature and nothing sounds just perfect.
And finally we have a simple request from a night elf hunter named Cronoras:
I’m sure since the patch you’ve been flooded with name requests for the exotic pets that are obtainable right now, but I was hoping I could get you to post my request for a name for my new Devilsaur. I’m looking for all types of names.
So let’s see … we’ve got:

Dialga, as in the pokemon from Pearl(yes, I’m a geek like that >_<), Tethyr(forgot where I got it from, but it sounds kinda cool), Zashrash, Bure(means twist in japanese, sounds sorta sweet)
I named mine Thunderthigh cause he makes that loud boom boom sound as he walks =o
i love to have silly names for my pets. so when i got my albino dino, i immediately named him Pickles. :D
my silithid is Peepers, my new gorilladin is Puddles, my lynx is Pumpkin and well, my boar is Deliverance. :D
How about Gankosaurus? That’s what I named mine, and what I’ve been calling them for months. Ever since my first trip to Un’goro Crater.
I would’ve gone for GankosaurusRex, but I don’t think it quite fit in the space we’ve got.
i named mine nanotyrannus means (“tiny tyrant”) i think it fits her well :P

nice names mayby Palkia from pokemon or Shiva from Hindu religion (destroyer of the world) or Ragnorok (dont think i spelled that right) for rthe norse religion of destruction
I usually don’t go for silly names, but I also named mine “Stompy”. After 5 minutes of having it stomp around, it just seemed to fit. Perhaps if they had a sound file attached to their idle animation (stick their tongue out and scream), I would have found a different name appropriate. Also:

[something to do with blue eyes, Sapphire?]

I love Yv’s suggestion of Rhox. That gets my vote! ;D
Another name you could use is Jaws. Kind of cliche, but it fits with their huge mouths and the fact that when they are swimming only one spike on their back is above the water. :) It looks like a shark fin, lol.

I named my Devilsaur Charles. Was the first name tha came to mind on the PTR, and when it went live I’d grown to love it =D

I named my Devilsaur to Chirano his name is from a series called Genshi shonen Ryu can’t remember if i spelled his name correct
I named my Tyrant Devilsaur “Tiny”, which makes me chuckle every time I hit Bestial Wrath after he gets his 3 grows in.

Hey gang, I might have showed up late to the party, but I’ve wanted to tame a Devilsaur ever since the first time I got eated by one on my level 48 night elf moonkin in Un’Goro crater. :D
Two years later, I finally ended up with a level 70 orc hunter and the ability to tame the bastards! The day the patch came out, I spent an hour spelunking through the wilds of Un’goro tracking down the white/purple one, since I have a “white” theme for all my characters going into Northrend (white hair, white pets, white mounts, etc.)
Funnily enough, I didn’t give any thought to what to name him beforehand. But as soon as I finally found my albino and tamed him, I cobbled together what I thought was a temporary, throwaway name:

Yes, that is a reference to BRK’s experimental DrMooPhD he made for Sharvan (God bless her family). I was in their guild for a period of time on Alliance side and felt that it would be a nice homage to them until I settled on a real name.
Go figure, Dr. Rawr has really grown on everyone in the guild. He’s now his very own honorary guild member and everybody loves to hug and get their pictures taken with the Doctoral Instructor of Death. :)

I tend to pick my names for my pets to be short catchy, go with either the type of pet tamed or the hunter’s name, for example this first suggestion goes with my Tauren hunter named “Joyride”

3) Snake – “Endgame”
4) Rhino – “GravyTrain”
5) Boar – “HogWild”
6) Corehound – “DoubleHeader”
