Name That Pet: Thtswatshesd’s Spider

Name That Pet: Thtswatshesd & SpiderFinal name: ibite

Among the influx of new and exotic pets, some hunters are focusing on the basics: a loyal wolf, a hulking bear … or in this case, a cunning giant spider!

Thtswatshesd, a 36 orc hunter in the Outland Outrunners guild on Mok’nathal writes:

Thtswatshesd, a 36 orc hunter, was fascinated by Bloodmyst and Azuremyst Isle bestiary. So he set out to get a Ravager.

But while he was going around Bloodmyst Isle, he saw the dreaded Zarakh. He had heard stories of level 70s running away in terror from such a beast! It charged at him but he was too frozen to move. But he unsheathed his axe and killed it with a couple of blows.

He knelt down to loot the corpse when he saw that it was only a level 19 spider. He knelt in sorrow … and at the same instant an egg hatched and out another one came. It charged, but this time he was ready.

He tamed the beast and returned to Orgrimmar. But he needed a good name for it.

That is why I am asking you. I know you can think up a good name for this dreaded beast. A funny or dark-themed name would be good.

Zarakh is one of my three favorite spiders. I’m certain we can come up with some great suggestions for this unique and terrifying pet.

That’s a good one lol, first one I’ve read. I say a good name should be Anarak, or for added amusement, Eightlgsoffear if it fits! Good luck with which name you choose!

    seemefearme (see me fear me)
    atelegfreak (eight legged freak)

    Shelob (LotR spider)

    poisonmyst
    certaindeath

I suggest Widow or Matron. These both seem very hordish, spiderish names! I like uncomplicated names and not using compound words since we can’t use spaces, it looks weird.

My Tauren hunter alt’s name is Arachnophobe, and her eight-legged friend’s name is Webster. I suggest Webster, it makes me giggle >_> There’s also Anansi the spider. And a few other names that come to mind:

Asanbosan - African version of the vampire
Arachne - from Greek mythology, means spider

  6. Messyah - October 21st, 2008 @ 3:14 pm EDT

There is only one name that comes to mind and it is a name that I said I would name a spider if I had ever tamed one myself.

    “Webster”

  7. Naztheros(Syrelil)-Sentinels - October 21st, 2008 @ 3:20 pm EDT

I guess his name is supposed to be That’s what she said.. Hmm.
*Ponder* I’m stumped, but I’d like to see some silly names that go with that joke, and would fit the spider.. Bahaha. xD

  8. hyena84 - October 21st, 2008 @ 3:21 pm EDT

got one for my alt and named it briarthorn.NEVER do that if you herb or run with a herbalist.its mildly confuseing.
    perhaps name it “shesaidwhat” ?

  9. Corrado - October 21st, 2008 @ 3:41 pm EDT

I don’t know why, but your Spider made me think of T.S. Eliot’s “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock.” More specifically, the lines…

“I should have been a pair of ragged claws
Scuttling across the floors of silent seas.”

Which is funny, because your pet doesn’t really have claws, nor does it do anything across the floors of silent seas, much less scuttle.

But, I thought the word “Ragged” or “Scuttle” or something derived from those words, when I saw your pet’s picture. Happy Hunting!

If you want obscure name it Ungoliant after the giant spider that poisoned the two trees in the Simarillion. You could even just shorten it to Ungol. That fits the harsh sounding Orcish tongue quite well. FTH

  11. Gwelynora - October 21st, 2008 @ 3:49 pm EDT

Does that spider still shriek loudly during battle? I named mine Banshee because of the sounds.

  13. Sigrdrífa - October 21st, 2008 @ 4:12 pm EDT

@Corrado - LMAO at what you wrote… Oh /wipes tears from eyes, oh that was good.

@ Naztheros(Syrelil)- you on Sentinels? :) If I see ya, I will moo at ya. Is that what his name suppose to be - “That’s what she said”? Sorry, Thtswatshesd, but it makes sense now that I read it.

@ Thtswatshesd - How about “Hesdwat”? (He said what) or “Onohedient” (oh no he didnt), lol. Enjoy your new friend and good hunting to ya

  14. Featherskiss - October 21st, 2008 @ 4:17 pm EDT

Wonderful tale, and I am not much on spiders.. But.. Funny um.. How about..

    Creepykrauly (nice pun on RFK)

    Or

Kreepers, She looks like a Kreepers to me. *grins* Thank goodness I am not afraid of spiders.

  15. Mythan - October 21st, 2008 @ 4:25 pm EDT

One of my little hunter alts has this one, I named it Thorn. Because of it’s barbed look. Briar might also be good.

  16. DigitalMonitor - October 21st, 2008 @ 4:38 pm EDT

    @Thtswatshesd Great story! :D

    My suggestions:

    LilMissMuffet
    Creepers

    Voriator!

Forget what it means but thats what mine was called when I picked it up 20 levels ago, then dumped it ’cause it was crap ^^

“Lolth” is a fictional goddess in the Dungeons and Dragons fantasy role-playing game. Lolth (Lloth in the drow dialect), the Demon Queen of Spiders, is the chief goddess of drow elves.

“Spid” from a story by Ray Bradbury called The Homecoming

  21. Tashi - October 21st, 2008 @ 7:08 pm EDT

I had him for a while and kept his name Zarakh. But if I were to get it again, I’d name it “Ebony.”
Or to match your name, “Itwasher.” :P
Hope those help in throwing ideas out there! Good luck naming your Zarakh! ^__^

  22. Seveil - October 21st, 2008 @ 8:25 pm EDT

    Octavion

  23. Pepp - October 21st, 2008 @ 8:40 pm EDT

Good story, I like your RP style.
For the spider, apart “YouKilledMyMom” which is a little bit funny I would go for
PHOBIAK… a mix from Hobia (Greek word for Fear - and Zarhak)

  24. Pepp - October 21st, 2008 @ 8:41 pm EDT

from previous post, iut’s PHOBIA the Greek word… sorry for the typo.

  25. Kerub - October 21st, 2008 @ 8:59 pm EDT

since the players name is ‘thats what she said’ how about ‘irlitle’ (i am little)

  26. dishu - October 21st, 2008 @ 9:20 pm EDT

how about trenton? or redips (spider backwards)

  27. Rottingham - October 21st, 2008 @ 9:22 pm EDT

How’s “TheWidower” for dark themed? or “Webster” for silly :P?

  28. Sukulatae - October 21st, 2008 @ 9:31 pm EDT

I like the name BriarRose for that model. If you know the original fairy tale, it’s pretty dark, so it suits a big scary spider.

  29. Abbienormal - October 21st, 2008 @ 10:00 pm EDT

    Octopussy.

  30. Niabi - October 21st, 2008 @ 10:19 pm EDT

Since your hunter’s name is Thtswatshesd, why don’t you name your spider Isaid (”I said.”), Betreconiz (”Better Recognize!”), Whozshe (”Who’s she?”), or Watdshesai (”What did she say?”)?

  31. Niabi - October 21st, 2008 @ 10:30 pm EDT

Oops, just thought up of some more …

    Saiwhat (”Say what!?”)
Nuhuh or Uhhuh (”Nuh uh (no)” or “Uh huh (yes)”)
    Shiztripin (”She’s trippin’!”)

… I thought these were some pretty funny ideas :-)

  32. Sindragosa - October 21st, 2008 @ 10:33 pm EDT

    Ungoliant (The Silmarillion)

A great spider name that is so underused

  33. Dewclaws - October 21st, 2008 @ 11:40 pm EDT

Id call it ‘Cheese’ just to cause a few worried looks.

  34. Yulaw9460 - October 22nd, 2008 @ 2:11 am EDT

Well, I always find a Latin name for my pets. My lion is called Smilodon, my bat Rhinolophus, my Devilsaur Tetanuras. A spider… Xysticus, Atrax, whatever. Look up spider on Wikipedia, and you´ll get tons of different names.

  35. Rottingham - October 22nd, 2008 @ 6:47 am EDT

    Arachnattack

  36. Daikyu - October 22nd, 2008 @ 7:52 am EDT

I can’t believe this has been passed up so far: Shesgotlegs, Legs.

Some others - Orb, Charlotte, Domino, Licorice, Camel, Sunny

  37. draiggoch - October 22nd, 2008 @ 9:55 am EDT

Well I have a spiddy and the name is Incywincy.

Cute name for a nasty wee beasty.

Doubly so now it has a web which stops those rogues tearing around all over the battleground

    /grin

  38. Myth - October 22nd, 2008 @ 10:58 am EDT

maybe “YouAreSoDead”…not bad name for a spidey :D and it fits perfectly :D

  39. Myth - October 22nd, 2008 @ 10:59 am EDT

    or Phobos @_@

  40. Seryth - October 22nd, 2008 @ 11:23 am EDT

    @mania
one of your three favorite spiders? what are the other two?

    @topic:

i named my spider Anansi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anansi)

  41. Tashi - October 22nd, 2008 @ 12:00 pm EDT

I second Daikyu’s suggestion of Shesgotlegs. Hilarious! :P

  42. Selesti - October 22nd, 2008 @ 12:55 pm EDT

Mania likes spiders? Eeeeww! The first time I saw these guys I thought, “Oh God, not MORE spiders!” And these are especially creepy. Good story though.

Charlotte is a popular spider name. I do think Webster is really cute. I’ve always prefered Japanese and (with my tauren hunter) Native Amercian names. You could call it Kumo, Japanese for “spider”, or, for added meaning, Kamikumo (biting spider). I also found Amimono which means “web”, but that might be a mouthful.

    For some Native American names:
    FEMALE
DEZBA: Navajo name meaning goes to war
GALILAHI: Cherokee name meaning attractive–sort of a silly thought
KANTI: Algonquin name meaning sings–if you call their screech singing :P
    MALIA: Zuni name meaning “bitter.”
TADITA: Omaha name meaning “one who runs.”

    For a MALE:
AHIGA: Navajo name meaning “he fights.”
AKANDO: ambush (my tauren’s raptor has this name)
    GOSHEVEN: leaper
    HONOVI: strong
MEGEDAGIK: Algonquin name meaning “kills many.”–if you like longer names

Hope these help. I’ll admit to hating spiders (in real life as well), but kudos to getting a different pet. You don’t see many spiders around, and, admitedly, they are better now that they have web.

  43. Nassira - October 22nd, 2008 @ 1:00 pm EDT

Since the “That’s what she said” joke is in the same realm as “Your Mom” jokes, I’d go with

    Urmom

Or if you wanted a continuation of the TWSS joke,

    Spit
    Ilikit
    Yum

  44. Koriani - October 22nd, 2008 @ 3:37 pm EDT

    How about..

    Squishy/Squish
    Squirt

or something else amusing along the lines of what happens when you step on a spider… :)

  45. Mania - October 22nd, 2008 @ 4:11 pm EDT

    Seryth: Naraxis and Rekk’tilac.

Selesti: I like most pets. :>

  46. Seansky - October 22nd, 2008 @ 4:45 pm EDT

If you want to go with the masters name, how about any of the things you’d respond “that’s what she said” to?
    Itsnasty
    Sosore
    Moreplz

Or what have you. Personally of those I like “Sosore” I mean “So sore!” “That’s what she said!” LOL ok… revert to adult mode…

Otherwise I really like the name Ungol (shortened from Ungoliant) that’s such an obscure name, I’ve never seen it on my server in 4 years! In fact, I’d forgotten about it myself. Not that I’d use it, I distinctly dislike spiders. Especially this model. Ew flashbacks of Nax.

    Good luck on the name!

  47. Kikaku - October 22nd, 2008 @ 6:45 pm EDT

    What about “Kthxbai”? ^^

  48. zifero - October 22nd, 2008 @ 8:41 pm EDT
