Ghostcrawler’s Arcania: Stomping & Prowling
Ghostcrawler had more to say on that buff to exotic pet damage we mentioned yesterday:
On the exotic pets issue, I have said before that we want to be very careful with the balance here. If the pets are immensely better, then the talent becomes a non-decision (which isn’t so bad) but the exotic pets also becomes a non-decision, which means that the tree that is supposed to be all about pets has fewer options to choose from.
At a slight dps increase, the particular pet you choose is still up for debate. On a boss where you need to go all out and the pet’s debuff isn’t imporant and survivability isn’t important, then yeah maybe you take the devilsaur or core hound. But when farming, running heroics, PvP or in other situations you still can bring which pet you want.
We did a big pass at pet dps and found that while some exotics were near the top, others were near the bottom. We made a big numbers pass to consolidate things a little better, and make sure the exotics were all near the top or at the top. Cats and other pets without a strong debuff should also do good dps as well.
He also had some news about core hounds that shake the screen when they walk:
We are going to disable the screen shake once the pet is tamed.
And perhaps the best news I have heard all day:
Now that we have a better system for introducing pets, I have no doubt we’ll add more per family and more families over time.
And while we’re here, I also wanted to mention this post from a Blizzard Tech Support Rep named Claudiog, who was responding to a hunter who is unable to stop his cat from Prowling every time it’s summoned:
Are you using addons? I would suggest resetting the game options to default and testing again. To reset your game options to default, please use the following steps. With the game at the login screen, click on the “Options” button in the lower right of the screen. A new popup will appear in the middle of the screen, click on the “Reset UI Settings” button, then click “Okay” and “Close”. This will reset the games interface and temporary files to default. Once this has been done, try the game again.
Now I had been assuming that this problem — cats that won’t stop Prowling — was related to the bug that causes Cower and Prowl to reset their auto-cast sometimes. But other posters in that thread seem to have had success in resetting their UI to default to fix this. So I wanted to ask: Are perma-Prowl and reset-auto-cast two different problems, or am I just confused?

woot! more pet fammileys!!! :D
Mania, I’m having a related problem: auto-cast isn’t casting…
See http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=11296621702&postId=112954446809&sid=1
I’m gonna try the interface reset (after backing up my addons and such)
Hey, on the subject of prowl and cower resetting their auto casts Ive had that problem as well, and i don’t use any mods. Ive gone so far as to stop using my cat altogether. Hopefully more hunters speak up about this bug because its quite bothersome. Resetting all my auto casts before every fight is a giant pain in the neck.
Mania…..try out a silithid. Have you tried them and venomous web yet? Oh my god….. that web hits for 161 every second for four seconds, AND immobolizes…. at twenty yards….. twenty eight second cooldown… just… wow…
I hope they nerf the Devilsaur stomping sound while they are at it. My raid was pissed at me last night cos of the damn noise. I’ve had to shut the sound off myself because it annoys.
Cower is turning itself on constantly and it’s getting annoying while I’m trying to quest and suddenly pulling aggro out of nowhere. If I have to summon my pet,it’s on.If I rez my pet,it’s on.If I log out, when I log back in it’s on!
Is Blizzard so far removed from our class they can’t see Cower and Growl trying to go off at the same time just might cause a few problems?!
Or do they want us to use that useless ability no one used and we paid to have removed from pets unlucky enough to have that they have forced on us with every pet and is now irremovable?
Cotytto, relax. The auto cast problem is one which has an easy workaround (just put the skills that you don’t want to autocast on your pet bar), so fixing it is naturally going to be prioritised behind other more severe problems that don’t have such simple mechanisms that will allow players to avoid them.
Also significant is the fact that nobody (neither Blizzard nor players) has so far been able to determine a reliable mechanism that always triggers the bug. Finally, the devs have stated that they don’t really like the way the current autocast system works and they’re considering ripping it out and replacing it. All of that adds up to it making a hell of a lot of sense for this to be a long way down the list of bugs to be fixed.
@Ichigo: yes, the blue posts on the topic suggest that all stomping and screen shaking effects will be removed once the affected pets have been tamed.
@Palla
Great to hear that silithids are worth picking up. I was a little afraid they would be left behind other exotics. (Im a bit of a bug fanatic when it comes to games Btw)
Still only 38 but now I have something to really look forward to, hey maybe they’ll even have my exotics buffed by the time I get there and because I’ll probably hit 60 at around the time Wrath Ships I’l be able to pick them all up without having to compete for them ^^.
On another note, since evryone else is level 70 and banging on about nothing but exotics, I thought I would say something on the behalf of one of my new faithful friends. In solo PvE? Crocolisk = WIN. I nabbed a lv 38 one last night in STV and managed to Pull and defeat 7 Level 40 Skullsplitter Trolls, never pulled aggro once. Bad attitude is made of EPIC.
in case no1 else has posted it..
The corehounds in Molten core cannot be tamed. Tried yesterday :)
I’ve done some Rampart runs with my Devilsaur (we’re both lvl 62) and no one’s complained about his thumping or his size. Actually they were amazed at how easily he was tearing things to little bitty pieces (alongside our Protection Warrior who was also destroying things with ease). Monstrous Bite + Rabid + his DPS-increasing Talents + my DPS-increasing Talents = ONE HELL OF A BIG NASTY BEAST.
My only complaint is: for god’s sake, PLEASE change his walk/run animations, he looks ridiculous waddling everywhere.
@ Kahlua, they can indeed, I myself haven’t but I’ve seen people on my server with them, do you have the 51 point BM talent? that seems to be whats confusing a lot of people currently. but yeah, as far as i know, and have seen, theyre tameable.
Also, @ Palladimors, Silithids are awesome arent they ^^ which one did you get? i initially got the Yellow one from UGC, but then, unfortunately, my akward nature got the better of me, and i decided to go for the gold one,…. and yeah, i got to bed at 4 this morning after camping the spot for approx 4-5 hours >.< (and had spent at least 3 hours the night before) but he’s worth it, now i just need to decide if i should name him Skitz, after the little dance, or after either a starship troopers reference or maybe a stranglers reference, in that “Golden Brown” was my inspiration whilst camping it :p
@Kirjava, you can name it Legion, after the giant insectoid kaiju from Gamera 2: Advent of Legion. Kumonga is a good name too, the giant spider kaiju from the Godzilla films.
Or if you want to reference the StarCraft games, name him Zergling.
I have seen no worms.. I assumed people thought they just sucked or something, but am I just beeing slow again?
I might go BM and try out the exotics for a bit of fun. (I also haven’t seen any slithids, so thats first on the list)
@Nimizar:With so many new talents to take up limited pet bar space,I now have to put one on that I will never use,is and always has been useless, and would I never have had on ANY pet if given a choice?
Oh and FYI,sometimes turning it off on the pet bar doesn’t turn it off so you HAVE to check the spellbook.Found that out the hard way as well.
well at least it’s not important that we’re doing anything right now, if you’re having trouble with things there’s no rush to get it fixed. about the silithids, i’ve tried them out but i can’t get used to having an enormous jittery bug next to me, just too much of a nuisance. i was impressed with their dps though haha. i’m glad they’re taking out the screenshake, and i agree that they need to fix the walk/run animations of some of the bigger pets (my bat before 3.0 was so annoying with his violent flapping that i abandoned him).
@Wolfington
I have to admit that every time I see ANOTHER hunter on Aszune with a Core Hound, I die a little inside, I would love to see some other exotics around but I think that most current 70’s are just too intent on getting a midget cerberus. Honestly? I won’t be getting one, purely out of stubborn ‘Must-be-somewhat-original-ism’ I will be having a Tyrant Devilsaur, the bronze Silithid a red/grey (not sure yet) worm and (eventually) Nuramoc. Oh and a Rhino.
I had a recommendation to Ghostcrawler but being in the Uk I can never post on Blizz US forums. So if anyone was able to pass this on I would be grateful.
To solve the issues with the exotic pets Beast Mastery talent and to counter the dual spec concern/hybrids role versatility vs hunter sole dps role I would like to propose the following suggestion:
Merge Bestial Wrath and The Beast Within talents into one and put them as the Tier 9 41point talent.
Bring the Beast Mastery talent down to Tier 7 31pt talent and leave the talent as is but even out the dps of Exotics to normals (as the 4 points in the Pet talents will probably give this talent the value).
Create a new talent called Beast Form for the Tier 11 51pt talent - effectively merges the pet and the hunter into one form. This could be similar to the warlock Metamorphosis but would be better if it was not a limited duration so effectively hunters could perform a Tanking Role giving them some variety in play styles (much like a feral druid). There are plenty of models for the form (Big Bad Wolf, ZG and ZA bosses etc) and Glyphs could be introduced to give alternate forms. What might also be nice would be take on either some of the pet talents, pet special abilities and pet appearance after the merge but I understand some of that might be difficult to programme!
Thanks in advance for anyone that could post this on the appropriate US Blizz hunter forums that GC might have a chance to view.
Yeah, not hot for core hounds. They were fun on PTR, but then they shrank them too much (my Gorilla is JUST as tall, HA!) and that “boom boom boom” gets old, and most importantly, EVERYONE has either that or a Devilsaur. I just can’t get past the ghetto animations of those so no thanks. I think I’ll try a Silithid or a Croc next. By the way, worms are pretty awesome! I loved mine, but I think I want to try all the pets out before I settle. With the new system, it’s so much easier to change pets at a whim! Love it!
@ Kahlua: Yeah they can, I did it. (Yes, on live).
This all sounds very interesting, and yay for more pets in the future!!!
@ Wolfington
I got myself a worm and while I haven’t leveled him that far yet, been working on my gorilla, he(or she not decided yet) seems pretty nifty. Stacking Armor debuff, that atm stacks up to 2500 armor pen is FTW.
Think most haven’t gone for them as impressive looking as the other exotics. Although I have got a number of comments on my yellow, rare spawn in Silithus, worm.
However does seem to be a bug, the Acid spit cooldown doesn’t seem to be reduced by my longevity, anyone else seen this with Acid spit or any other pet abilities?
I am absolutely loving the devilsaur! After not being able to find Nuramoc I went out and found the white one and my god do they have AP! :O But not only is it strong, he was tanking Tin head in Karazan! XD I too don’t seem to have problems with my guild saying that it’s too big or too loud, they love it!
Drina: Beast Form… I can’t see that it would ever happen, because hunters are already able to tank via pets, but… yeah, that would be cool… and there are a lot of animal/human hybrid models, as you say - makrura, nerubians, gnolls, arrakoa, quillboars, various troll animal bosses… probably only a few pets that aren’t catered for at all. Even just taking the form of the pet with enhanced melee stats would be nice.
Personally, I have no use for Cower and actually think it’s quite useless. If a hunter is a ranged fighter, why would you want your pet to lose aggro so the enemy can get in your melee range? It makes no sense to me. O_O
As far as the Prowl issue, I love Prowl, but this needs to be resolved. My cat is DRIVING ME NUTS! I never have him out unless I’m in combat. Plus, in, Org, everyone’s cat are Prowling unintentionally, so everywhere you turn there’s that stealth sound.
Make it stop! :(
@ Palladiamors: OMG! You have a silithid? I have one too, a red one from Tanaris, and I named it Jitterbug, because it dances! A pet that DANCES! It’s so cool.
I’ve noticed… is it just the Kurken who shakes the screen when it walks by? Because the other core hounds don’t seem to do it as much? Also, the Devilsaurs do look slightly ridiculous waddling everywhere.
There are clearly many issues to be resolved, but think about it, there could be other classes just as annoyed as we are. That’s what keeps me from slapping my Prowling cat. ^__^
As far as not having enough room on pet bar for spells you may want to handle casts yourself, BRK posted some handy macros you can put on your own bar, its linked in one of Mania’s posts a couple back. ex, “/cast call of the wild” “/cast roar of sacrifice”.
I’m not having the return-to autocast bug between battles, so I havent made a macro for this.. but I’d guess you could make yourself one big macro to just press between each battle.(instead of browsing the pet spellbook and clicking on/off things). This could be something like this, each on a line in the same macro:
/petautocastoff cower ; /petautocastoff prowl ; /petautocaston growl …and whatever else you want turned off and on. I’m not *positive* this works, I havent made one. just a guess, maybe it can help till they fix things?
My pet uses his auto casts whenever he needs them, but sometimes when I log in the focus dump move, growl, and cower sometimes reset their auto casts. And if anything to the new pets I’d love if we got another pet like a scorpid, but with idk..stronger poison and tank tree for sure :)
I’ve got some interesting news…I know it’s only been a few minutes since my last post, but…my pet tanked a heroic! a scorpid pet specced something like this, 3/3 in great stamina, 2/2 in natural armor, 2/2 in blood of the rino, 2/2 in pet barding, 2/2 in guard dog, 3/3 in avoidance, 1/1 last stand, and 1/1 taunt…he held his aggro quite well actually…all I needed turned on was his tank tree stuff and growl, he only lost aggro once or twice and we had a retadin with us :D sorry I thought I’d just put that out there for people that are big on the instances and stuff :P
I haven’t grabbed my Core Hound just yet, will do that as soon as I shove the cat in the stable and drop off my boar in his original homeland.
@ Tashi- Tell me about it. My furball Ruka is drivving me completely batty. I’m to the point that if I pull her out I hit P, pop the spell book and shut down Cower, bring her out of and shut down Prowl, kill Lick Your Wounds, and Heart of the Phoenix. I’ll figure out macros for these later, right now I’m just happy I can actually do dailies and farm with the kitty again.
In order to fix re-autocast after you mount or whatever, first you do your turning off and on depends on the need.
After that you MUST DISMISS THE PET ONCE AND CALL AGAIN. This seems like worked fine for me.
I found that my cat’s prowl was going off all the time, but i seem to have a *temporary* fix.
Turn your cats prowl OFF autocast
Make macro:
/cast Prowl
/petattack
This way your cat only prowls when you send it in to attack and you don’t have to worry about it spamming prowl when you don’t want him to.
Works well for me so far.
I’m really annoyed with the Heart of the Phoenix bug; rez your pet with HotP while it’s on defensive and it will immediately run to attack that which it was attacking before you wiped.
The autocasting bugs are also annoying, but they haven’t wiped a group yet.
Something I’ve noticed with Prowl is that one of my hunters’ cats constantly prowls, regardless of me turning autocast off, while all my other hunters have no problems with their cats. I have no add-ons, so I know that’s not the issue. I just hope it’s fixed soon. I haven’t been watching Cower’s autocast (which I turn off), but I will now.
@Drina: We’re ranged dps, we will never fill the rolls of tanking or melee dps. Having a “beast form”, however cool it does sound, will not go over well with alot of Hunters and will probably never happen. Again, we’re about ranged attacking, if Hunter ever had something like “feral tanking”, than Hunter’s just wouldn’t be, well, Hunters.
Autocasts, can’t say I’ve had a problem with them. I had my wolf and devilsaur out and both held aggro like crazy. Surprisingly, my wolf has become my absolute favorite pet to use, even over the DPS of the devilsaur and core hound =D In fact, I found my wolf and I topping the dps charts during several raids last night. It was fun. Gotta say, I love the new patch.
BUT OMG ARE CORE HOUNDS LOUD! Holy Jesus, I hope they tone down the sounds just a weee tad. I like the sounds and all, but when I can literally hear your core hound from across the terrokar lake, something’s wrong. And I’ll be glad when screenshake and stomp are gone, its the main reason I didn’t use a devilsaur yesterday, and half the guild wanted to kill my fellow hunters’ core hounds XD (Myself included in the killing party XD)
My biggest problem/bug right now is that Cower is autocasting every 3 seconds.
Yes, it’s a 14 second cooldown, but it’s casting every time growl does.
Even when I have it shut off in both my spellbook AND the cast bar.
Man the yanks seem to having a LOT of bother, don’t know the difference but there would appear to be no problems of this sort in the EU. (Correct me if im wrong)
and also, new families? does that mean my beloved Hydras may be on the way? <3
@ Rikaku my white core hound seems to be quiet… yep, just went and got it, aside from the whole stompy thing going on. Heard an orange one all last night while doing dailies. Took off my headphones. I pitty the other classes right now. If even the hunters are getting annoyed by Core Hounds, the rest of the classes probably want to kill us!
Well, I’m off to work! Good luck, good hunting and let’s all hope this gets fixed fast!
its really not hard to fix the autocast bug (heck its not even new (just reintroduced). as someone said before
1)put the skill you don’t wat on your bar
2)turn the skill off of autocast
3)dismiss your pet
4)resummon your pet
5)take the unwanted skill off your bar
6)put whatever you want in that empty slot, and set it how you want it
7) dismiss and resummon
8)check the spellbook to confirm the autocast status of the skill
this has worked 100% for all 5 of my pets
Tzia: I was actually in MC last night (my guild has become addicted to achievements XD). I was in there with my ghost wolf (so he has those freakish ghost-wolf-sounds), but theothers brought 1 of each core hound (Kurken, MC, and SMV). ALL of them made the loud sound. Which we Hunters are quiet used to by now (especially after Screech o_o) but the sound radius of Core Hounds is immense. I literally could hear someone with their Kurken across the lake in Terokkar up in Skettis. @_@
@Rikaku Aspect of the Beast is arguably useful when you use BW + Kill Command in the raid environment where your pet DPS should scale crazy.
Now one could counter that with using Hawk will benefit the overall DPS but I haven’t bother doing any math for that.
It’s just a possibility of its use.
I agree the stomping of the Kurken (the one Core Hound I bothered taming) was so annoying I released him before I reached the Azuremyst harbor. Shame, since I thought he looked rather pretty… oh well. After all it s a silithid I really wanted, and at 5.15 this morning I tamed the golden one from 1k needles. It was funny really, I d been camping the place since the patch came live, and this morning I logged in right on top of him (thank the gods I had my try-out pet on passive or he might have killed it).
Anyhoo, I now have 2 cunning pets, I ll never give up Dagon the serpent. For ferocity I was thinking either a green stv raptor or maybe a devilsaur if they quit it with the stomping already. Take your pick and lvl ‘em quick, it won t be long before we are drowning in lvl 70 enemies in Northrend. Happy hunting y all!
I kept having cower flick on while I was running around Nagrand grinding XP for my chimaera (and stocking up on meat, carrion feeder’s great but I don’t want to rely on it alone and I’d only had fish for my cat), but my cat’s not spontaneously stealthing (never had it on autocast to begin with). Only used my cat in a Karazhan run so far and it had growl turned off, maybe cower turning back on is tied to growl being on? I don’t think cower turned on during Kara but I wasn’t checking since it was moot if it was.
And I remember hearing that the ranged stutter bug was fixed but it’s not… My chimaera’s wasting half his dive before getting in range to zap stuff… :-(
@ all :)
I am not using add-ons because of the patch version so, when it was installed, I was clean. I tired the trick of putting both prowl and cower on the pet bar, and turning off them off. Cower stays off, whether it stays on the petbar or not. However prowl always turns on when I mount/dismount or call my pet. Doesn’t matter if it is on the petbar or not. I also tried the above and still “prowl is active”. A pain but one can live thru it.
My question still remains on why I still can’t auction non soulbound vanity pets (never used :) ). I always get a message about no charges remaining. HA! figure that one out.
As always, good hunting to all.
Hey Mania, Petopia is down:
The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request.
The script had an error or it did not produce any output. If there was an error, you should be able to see it in the error log.
Thanks, DarkWolff. My host is reporting “intermittent 500 Errors” which they say should be resolved shortly. I’m keeping an eye on it.
Weird thing, but my newly tamed Devilsaur is missing Charge in 3rd tier of his Ferocity tree, its just not there. Anyone else noticed anything like that?
My Carrion Bird still has Swoop in that position of the same talent tree.
Charge is a tenacity talent. The Devilsaur should have Dash on tier one and Swoop on tier 3.
im finding the info u have on damage for various pet skills is incorrect.for instance, gore 2 on my lvl 19 boar has 9-11dmg.petopia lists it as at lvl 17 u get rank 2 like i have but you state the damage should be 17-21 !!! wow thats a huge difference.(i wish it was 17-21!)please fix these discrepancies because we have enough problems now trying to figure out what pet will work the best since everything is new and reworked. i have a lvl 70 also and was thinking the wasp with the armor debuff(like the worm) would be best for dps(and pvp too?) but not many people on mania’s arcania are commenting on them. :(
hmm.i must be the only non raider here whos ever found the pet cower skill to be at least sort of useful.at least for those cases when it would be easyer for me to be getting hit a few times, then to have my pet die befor mend did anything.
got a mara worm (the black/blue color changer) for my exotic.havent had a chance to really test it.but its nice and quiet so far…
Charge is a tenacity talent. The Devilsaur should have Dash on tier one and Swoop on tier 3.
Charge and Swoop is the exact same move, one being for ground pets, while the other is for flying pets. And it has been confirmed that it is a bug and group Ferocity pets will get it back once it’s fixed.
And for people confused about the Core Hound’s effects, here’s the list.
The Kurken: Screen Shake, Stomping sound effect.
Green Core Hound: Stomping sound effect.
Red Core Hound: Screen Shake, Stomping sound effect, Burning sound effect.
found two apparent species bugs so far - anyone else found that:
1. Wasps pet details report significantly lower DPS than other ferocity pets (level 69 untalented wasp with untalented hunter - damage 179-208 (96.7DPS), same level same talents moth - damage 197-229 (106.4 DPS). Don’t know if this is just a reporting error or genuinely lower DPS
2. Silithid won’t eat fungus, or at least won’t eat underspore pods, which are eaten happily by other fungus-eating pets like bats, wasps etc.
Sorry for the delay, but yes, Silithids are definitely worth it. I picked up a green one from Silithus…. so cute! The thing never stops moving, and its lethal. Love it. And it was the new pet I was least excited about.
ok if GC or any other blue checks - I did what Claudiog suggested - doesn’t work. I have a lvl 36 cat who was DustStalker earlier in her life (silver elite lvl 9 cat from NE tree). When I dismiss her or mount on my ram, when I either call her back or dismount, prowl always turns on and goes back onto the pet bar (I remove it). This is on all of my toons, but the one with Duststalker is Wiebitte on Uther, Alliance. lvl 36 Dwarf Hunter.
I also did what ryan92084 suggested, no go. Now the funny thing is I don’t have a problem with Cower, just Prowl auto turning on and putting it’s self back on the pet bar. :) Thank you.
@bradagore:
I think, these underspore pods are classified as “fruits”, ain’t they? At least, some comments on WoWhead indicate so (never tested it by myself, as all my pets either est both fruits and fungi, or don’t like either).
I love my Core Hound (named him Baskerville) His dps is a tad under my cats, but he is good utility against casters. And things weak to fire dmg.
The one mechanic, which I wish they would fix is the pet’s “auto-assist” mess.
There are times when I don’t want him to attack what I’m attacking, and I don’t want to be constantly switching his “behavior”. I also think it’s created a bug for the hunter too. In an instance, I have found that I auto-target the next “in combat” mob and “auto-shot” doesn’t toggle off. So with hands off the controls, Target dies, my hunter targets “Sheeped” mob, and auto-shots. Its happened too many times to be an fluke. It almost always occurs when the tank or someone else in the party targets the next mob and with me touching nothing, my toon turns and fires at the same one. (it doesn’t have to be an in combat mob either.) once the tank just targeted at squirrel while we were in combat and when my target died, I auto-targeted the poor critter and blasted him.
This could be an addon, but I don’t believe it is. Anyone else seen this odd bug?
Growl Cower confusion. Some are reporting that “even with cower off in the spell book” it is casting everytime growl does. Not really. It is on a shared CD with growl. So it will activate the CD “look”. But it prob isn’t really casting cower. A similar example is Trinkets. They share a Global CD so you can’t use 2 at the same time. Both will look like they are on CD but you only “used” one of them.
Simply put if they are both set to “auto cast” growl and cower will not cast at the same time because of the GCD. (But it will look like they did)
regarding the prowl and cower going on auto cast when summoned back or reloading screen i have found that putting them on the pet action bar makes it not do so at all dunno if it works for others aswell and well its not as great a solution cause you can manualy chose some other spells to go of with only two spots left.
I have been having problems with cower as well. Even with it turned off in the book and on the bar, there is no clowing icon anywhere, I am still pulling aggro like mad
Make that glowing icon
@Rikaku The game is fluid however. If you look at the Blizzard definition of Paladins they are defensive holy warriors yet they have a fully powered dps role. As Blizz have said the game is a work in progress and things change. With the rise in hybrid options and the incoming dual spec the idea of the beast form is to give hunters an alternate role to match the hybrid classes options. The idea of the Beast Form was to infuse the living essence of the pet into the hunter.
It could even be a dps form if the merged pet was Ferocity/Cunning and a tanking form if the merged pet was Tenacity. Its not like we already dont have quite a few melee based talents in the survival tree so a hunter isnt JUST ranged.
@Bradagore Pets dont scale like characters at the moment so a pet will never be seriously viable tank for full raiding. Dont forget our talents now are geared towards 80 content so its not surprising they can tank in lvl70 content.
OK. Just had a look at the actual combat logs after a fight with my new bear. It appears that it is not so much that cower keeps going off, but GROWL is not going off at all. Neither one appears at all in the log. The countdown to both still appear, and those are linked, but nothing actually happens, at least according to the log.
Interesting, eh?
Hate it when that happens. Just checked “Everything”, and growl does appear, and cower does not. But I still do not now why I am pulling aggro, and not just with the new bear, which is 5 levels below me. Even my normal wolf does not keep the aggro.
Really weird.
@Rudda:I am not confused. The animation when any skill is on autocast looks different active than when it is off.I do know what shared CD looks like, this isn’t the problem.Cower IS turning itself on at random, sometimes in the middle of fights.
Also other autocasts are randomly not turning themselves on,such as Thunderstomp.
And about CG’s “We’re trying to decide whether to fix it or overhaul the whole autocast system” thing.I may be cynical but from past nonsensical dev responses to legitimate hunter issues usually not only become worse than the problem they tried to fix,we end up getting getting a nerf.
Their “solution” will likely be “Huntards are too easy to play as it is,we think pets that auto using abilities is unfair to other classes. So from now on all hunters will have to cast their pets abilities themselves.Nevermind that you have to micromanage too much as it is,L2P Huntard!LOL”
Yeah, that is cynical.Too long playing as a hunter not to be when it comes to our class and how we are thought of by devs.
awh i kinda liked the corehound stomp oh well at least i get to keep the warcry
It’s very simple to get around the cower/growl problem, and you don’t even need to reset you ui. just make a litte pet attack macro for it.
/petautocastoff cower
/petattack
And if you want to make sure cower/growl is on just use /petautocaston.
@ #8:
“@Ichigo: yes, the blue posts on the topic suggest that all stomping and screen shaking effects will be removed once the affected pets have been tamed.”
AWESOME. I hadn’t thought it possible there could be a pet effect more annoying than the frostsaber yawn/slobber sound, but in fact the BOOMBOOMBOOM of tamed devilsaurs and core hounds actually manages to be more irritating (especially goofy when you consider that an elekk in full barding continues to pad around comparatively quietly).
I’ll definitely tame these guys once they remove the stomping.
@Rove
I have one.I have to turn it off so frequently I just used /petautocastoff Cower.
My point is we shouldn’t have to worry about this, but since they made every single pet with this ability we are stuck with a useless ability we HAVE to make a macro just so our pets will function properly!
Rudda- I have had a similiar problem in instances. Mine has not had me actually *attack* mobs, but without touching, and without a mob hitting me, the game is auto-targeting new mobs for me. kind of annoying, because if i dont notice, ill accidentally shoot :(
The new pet defesive mechanics are bad and good. good for solo play, getting your dailies. pet runs in just like you want, less work. yay. but in instances, its irritating to have pet charge your should-be-getting-trapped mob. passive stops their charging in though.
