Petopia Updated for Patch 3.0
Patch 3.0 launches tomorrow, but I’ve gone ahead and updated Petopia early so that all us eager hunters can have the new info at our fingertips as we plan tonight.
(I apologize for any hunters who are desparately trying to find out which pet they need to tame today to learn Claw 6, but dude, just wait a day!)
In addition to Patch 3.0 information, there are some new features scattered about as well. And doubtless some bugs! So please let me know what you think and if you run across anything that isn’t working quite right.
[edit] Ack! I accidentally dropped the WotLK pet page! It’s back now, but sheesh — how did I miss that? (You can also use the Advanced Search to do more detailed searches within the WotLK pets as well.)

wow nice redo of the site mania there is a thing i foudn though some of the pet family tabs arnt workign liek devilsaur it dosnt seem to be up yet. and now i can stop camping the rare spawn spider in duskwood wait a day then get the one in terecar lol. again awsome site expesially for all thsoe rare skin pet collectors liek myself.

btw, I tamed U’cha on PTR, while waiting to see if the rare one would show up in the cave. I can’t log into PTR now (boo) to check, but his armor was 9k+ out of the box. no specs, nuthing.
went to stranglethorn and tamed King Mukla and his default armor was 11k. I didn’t take the time to note what the differences might have been - just thought it odd. as a 70, they both umped to lvl 65 and did all the self-training. If I recall the attack was close, but the armor was not.
so, am camping the King. will grind to 71, and get Tyrantus.

Its not a problem, really. Its just nice to be able to get away from things like that here. This is just….. the Arcania. It isn’t the moronfest that the forums tend to turn into, and its just a nice little escape. My apologies if I sounded like an ogre.
Well, it’s nice to see the new stuff up, but wouldn’t it have been better just to leave the old stuff up until 2am tomorrow morning? I don’t need any new pet skills, but there’s going to be a lot of people who need it, and telling them to wait another day instead of waiting to change the stuff on this site seems counter-intuitive to me. Waiting one day to change the info on this site doesn’t harm the site administrators any, but making the Hunters still looking for skills on the live servers does hurt their ability to play the game.

Haha, I parked myself in the Kurken’s cave too. Although if all the noobs tame it too and name them horrible japanese names I will have to bully my friends into taking me into MC instead. Oh well. All of this is flailing until I get my jormungar on nov. 13th anyway.

Melthrian? In just a relatively few short hours, the live realms go down to administer the update. I am sure people can live for a few hours without the exampled rank, especially considering that when live reals come back up, all of their pets will know it automatically. Just…. relax. Okay? Its not going to kill anyone to wait for a bit to get a new skill.
Palladiamors, why don’t you and the webmaster(s) relax? When this new info was published, there were a lot more hours to wait than just a few, and it wouldn’t have killed anyone to wait until the servers went down to swap out the old information for the new information. Also, if you’re going to take down the old information, you could at least have pointed people over to resources such as the Hunter Faqs on gamefaqs and the pet skills database on wowhead to look to until the new patch arrived.
There is no webmaster(s) — there is only me. :>
And I made the decision that the new information would be more valuable than the old for this evening. If you are having trouble finding anything and you need it right now, feel free to e-mail me and I would be glad to help.
Well, like I said I don’t personally need any info myself, but I think it’d be nice if links were provided on either the front page or this news page about where else to go to find info on pet skills. I used to use those resources before I found this site, but I must say, I like your site much better Mania. It’s got a lot of pretty pictures that make browsing it very fun, and I’ve always found it very well organized.
Nice to see the new stuff. I just spent like 10 mins voting on the pets. That’s fun =D Anyways glad to see the new info up. I don’t think any hunters will have a problem in the few hours to 1 day between Patch 3.0 going live (depending on where you live). If people managed to look around the site, they’d notice Mania has several links to Wowhead and Thottbot. There’s really no reason to get into a hussfuss over it.
I’d camp out Kurken, but I’m going to be getting my polar bear first thing, so Kurken has to wait til after I figure out my specs too. XD

Thanks for the update, Mania. I’m only a part-time hunter, but I love playing mine. And while I’ve been casually following what’s coming with the patch, your FAQ covering the changes looks like exactly what I want to be reading during the realm downtime tonight/tomorrow. Nicely done!
Now that I think about it, pets do need some resilience at least. No amount of health or armor will keep them from being two or three-shotted by someone geared to inflict maximum crits and maximum crit damage (which, sad to say, is everyone at or near 70/80). Make it a Pet Talent, make it a Hunter Talent, make it so they gain some from you, something, but give them some resilience.
Melthrian, you were making a fuss over Mania, who does this all by herself, changing things over less then half a day early. It really wasn’t a big deal to be making, especially not with the change over so soon.
And yes, Mitsuhide, pets need something. Resilience would definitely help.
Resilience is something they also talked about at Blizzcon. The panel said they would look into Resilience if it proves that pets are just dying too easily. They said they want pets to be good off-tanks, and would like them to not be 1-2 shotted down. However, it’s still something being tweaked as this pet system is still relatively new.
Am I so tired and addled that I just don’t see it? is there a link to a pet talent calculator anywhere?

Varsar: I don’t have my own calculator yet, but there’s a link to Wowhead’s pet talent calculator on the three talent tree pages, as well as in the FAQ. I’m afraid you’ll have to use theirs for now.

I’m parking Durana out at the silithid pit in the Thousand Needles, I hope I’ll be able to tame that gorgeous tan Silithid once I log back in. A hunter friend of mine is stationed in Un’Goro with his fingers crossed for a red devilsaur. XD
Being Australian, I’m lucky enough to be able to sleep through the server shutdown… That is assuming I’m not too excited to sleep…

@ Melthrian: I know you’ve already been replied to but my thoughts are that the majority of people will want to know what’s available in the future so they can plan ahead, instead of something that will soon be obsolete. It’s fair enough to wish at least a link elsewhere, however, that would mean Mania would be updating twice which is also counter-intuitive. The way I see it, it was easier for her update now and displease a few than be late updating when the patch is out and upset many. Just my thoughts on it.
@ Maree: For the future, afaik, this is the sort of website anyone is welcome to visit, so try not to swear. I know you’re excited though. :)
OMG the pet voting thing is soo addictive. :) I love it.
I linked it to one of my friends and she was making notes of the pets she saw while doing it that she loved. So far I’ve been lucky and anything paired against my current pet skins has been a win for my pets.
Can’t wait for it. Already at the cave, logged out near Kurken. Nobody on my server was in the zone when I logged off, so hopefully competition won’t be much.

And to be fair, I have already had several people e-mail me asking why they couldn’t, for example, tame the Kurken when Petopia clearly says that it can be tamed now. So I did cause some confusion with the early switch. Ah, well. :>

Palladiamors, this is the last thing I’ll say, but I’m not making a fuss at all, I’m just trying to help people find old pet skills until the servers go down. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that at all. In less than an hour it’ll be a completely moot point, but I think you’re the one unnecessarily being sensitive and making a fuss about this. Honestly!

Angelakane: 1) Yup — they resize before your eyes. 2) I believe that bear models now have their mouth closed when not in combat, but that’s the only such change I’ve heard about.

Any chance of seeing the stats on that voting thing? As I write, the new spirit beast is listed as #1 pick, yet I saw it only once in several hours of clicking madly on pet pictures. Looks like I’m far from the only one wasting a lot of time at this fun activity! (It was something to do during idle time at work)

Wicked job on the sight mania, <3 the vote for the best pet on the sight, can’t wait to see if paladins are really “unbeatable” as I’ve heard from beta testers…but only time can tell.
I was on the old Petopia site last night trying to find info on where that rare gorilla lives. Didn’t find the moneky, so I settleed on that lvl 55 red monkey besides to me, I like the red fur). Then went to bed at 8:30. This morning, instead of doing my morning 90 minutes of banker stuff, I hopped over to newly updated Petopia and was greatly surprised with all of the vauable reading. And it wasn’t just one little bitty page, but lots n lots n lots of pages! Thank you my dear, Mania. You are such a blessing to this world of ours.

Mania…I heard this asked before but I never heard an answer..Do the new wrog models have unique animations or sounds?
Do the regular wolves have new sounds or animations in the beta yet?

Shadowkaizen: Whoops .. I knew there was a FAQ question I misplaced.
The saber worgs seem to use a combination of wolf and worg animations. I don’t believe that there are new animations for any of the wolf family in particular, but I haven’t spent that much time looking at animations either.

ok i don`t really know if this is the right place to ask this but i don`t suppose the old petopia still exists somewhere right ? i mean pre-WotLK… if not , then can anyone help me with a link where i can find some data about the old pets and the old pet systems ?
