Gazmik Fizzwidget Needs Our Help!
So I got an e-mail this evening from Gazmik Fizzwidget, creator of such fabulous hunter add-ons as Hunter’s Helper and Feed-O-Matic (not to mention my non-hunter favorite, FactionFriend) — and he’s got an assignment for us!
I’ll let him explain:
So, you might be familiar with my Feed-O-Matic addon … [Familiar? *snort* It's the only add-on I won't run without! -ed.] … and how, by default, it emotes when you feed your pet: e.g. “Cahaal feeds MeepMeep a Smoked Talbuk Venison. Yum!”
And you might have noticed that the part on the end is randomized, and that the set of possible random phrases can include ones specific to your pet’s gender (“Good boy!”) and type (“Nice kitty!”). There’s even a couple that show up when feeding your pet specific foods. (“Kaet feeds Crab a Mystery Meat. Tastes like chicken.”)
Anyway, that feature’s been in FOM for years. I’ve always wanted to expand the set of random phrases with more fun and witty stuff, but I’ve found myself lacking time and inspiration. But seeing all the “Name That Pet” posts on your blog got me thinking I might find some creative ideas in the hunter community. Think I could enlist some help from Mania’s Arcania and its readers?
Absolutely! We love stuff like this.
So here’s the deal: the existing random phrases for the end of the FOM emotes are listed below. If you have any suggestions for new random phrases, post ‘em in the comments. Make sure you specify whether your suggestion applies to all pets, a specific pet family or a specific pet food.
Any food, any pet:
- “Yum!”
- “Mmm, good stuff.”
Genders:
Any male pet:
- “Good boy!”
Any female pet:
- “Good girl!”
Specific foods:
Zesty Clam Meat:
- “Mmm, zesty!”
Mystery Meat:
- “Tastes like chicken.”
Dragonbreath Chili:

What can we add to this list that’s cute and funny? (And keep the suggestions reasonably clean, please!) Remember to say whether your suggestion is for a particular family or food!

Actually I have a really obvious suggestion to start:
Core Hounds – “What a good little puppy!”
(Or even worse, ‘widdle puppy’.)
Mystery meat-Mmm tastes like…ewww
lol hey it’s mystery meat i’m surprized they actually eat it i know i wouldn’t.
You could actually do a series with Mystery Meat that way:
“Tastes like chicken.”
“Tastes like tallstrider!”
“Tastes like well-aged gnome!”
“Tastes like … spider?!”
How about for Mystery meat
“wow hes hungry enough to eat a horse! …and just might have.”
I ran into one of those. For some reason, I kept reading it ‘Monty is a Zangar Trout’.

That and the Gnome one made my day.
For the genders, what about ‘Ata Boy/Girl!’ too? if I spelled ‘ata’ right, lol.
For Devilsaurs; ‘Down, Dino!’, you know, how fred flintstone always yelled that at overactive and hyper purple ‘dog sauropod’, it could work with raptors too I guess, if anyone wants to be silly.
Sithilid [did I spell that right?]; ‘Good sithilid, nice sithilid…’
Since you know Sithilids are supposed to be the terror of Azeroth [kinda sorta]

I made an emote of my own for this, not realizing there was an actual addon! (goes to download it)

Opps! For my above post, I screwed up. It was supposed to be-
“Watch (pet name) make (food name) disappear!” This could also be reworked to something like, “Watch my (pet family) make (food name) disappear!”

Anyone else find it odd you can feed spiders “Crisp Spider Meat” and “Crunchy Crab Cakes”, both of which are made of spiders?
This might be tricky, but…
Any chance you could make it so if you try to feed your pet something they DON’T like, it does an emote?
Also, cats eat cats, wolves eat wolves, bears eat bears, owls eat owls…

One for cats:
(Hunter)’s Cat (pet name) looks up at (him/her) and asks “I can haz (Food name)?” Although wierded out that (his/her) pet can talk, (Hunter) pulls out (Food name) and feeds it to (pet name).
Sorry, but you know it had to be done ;P
And another one for when you’re low on food:
(Hunter) reaches deep down into (his/her) backpack, rummages around for a few seconds, then pulls out a (Food name). (He/She) flicks off some lint of the top of it, then tosses it to (Pet name).
One for Sporebats.
(Hunter) feeds (Food name) to (Pet name)… Then wonders how (his/her) pet can eat without a mouth.
I’d personally like to see a special emote for all the Pet families. It’s just a matter of thinking of something creative enough. If I can think of anything else, I’ll post it up :)
I’m not sure that Feed-O-Matic can do the long, complex emotes. I think at this point that Gazmik is just looking for the phrases to go on the end of the standard emote that FOM uses — i.e. Name feeds Pet a Food. Random Phrase.
But these are really great, everyone! Keep ‘em coming!

Although, with minipets becoming spells in 3.0.2 I’m not sure how confusing this would be. =/

Please rephrase that to the generic word AMMO; there are some hunters out there who don’t use guns, just as there are some who won’t touch a bow or crossbow.

There was an old commercial for pork, that had it declared ‘The Other White Meat’. Later on, people started making jokes about various other foods (in particular human flesh or cat) as ‘The *other* other white meat’. In other words, the other white meat that isn’t pork.

I think there’s lots of potential for signing with Gorillas, seeing as they’re the closest thing to being sentient us hunters can tame.

I’ve included several of your suggestions in the Feed-O-Matic 3.0 release, which updates the mod for the WoW 3.0 patch that’s dropping tomorrow (as well as the WotLK beta) and includes a revamped food-choosing doohickey that ought to do away with the persistent bugs of previous versions.
As Mania pointed out, for right now I can only take random emote ideas that fit the form, “Name feeds PetName a Food. Random Emote”. More complicated emotes requires more mucking with the underlying code than I want to do at the last minute before Patch Day, but I can certainly look into it again later.

I occasionally use the same emote for whatever I’m feeding Oni, my ghostsaber. “Teldra smiles fondly at Oni as she feeds him another shriveled gnome head. Good boy!”
i think when you feed your nether ray it should say “Crikey, Nether Ray!” i know…horrible.
