In unrelated but very good news, someone has hacked the WoW Model Viewer into a state where it mostly works with the new WotLK/Patch 3.0 file formats. (It still lacks particles, I believe.)
That means that I was able to get nice model pics for a bunch of pets up on Petopia last night, including our one and only spirit beast, the rhinos, and the bone spiders, among others.
Having a working model viewer is also convenient in sorting out which model goes with which pet, and indeed how many of them there are.
For example, I was having a really hard time telling how many different colors of jormungar there were because the light in the different environments can make it hard for me to distinguish subtle color variations. (And since not all jormungar can be tamed, I couldn’t just tame them and drag them somewhere neutral.)
But it turns out that the data files at this point only have one jormungar model, so … they must all be the same color!
Aww that spider looks cool maybe i’ll use him if i’m not beast spec. ^^
aww only 1 jormungar thats a bit of a disapointment though. But i gatta admit that pik of the spirit beast is nice. ^^ O i gatta ask n e one know what the spirit beast does while idle? Is it just like a normal cat or he do somethin special?

that’s kind of a shame, i was hoping for like a white jormungar skin… i’d never tame a jormungar but i like to think of others. the spirit beast thing is really sad, i was hoping for maybe a black panther-like model… but i’m glad you got the new pictures up on the site, and i don’t want to be a nuisance but there’s a few of the mini pictures on the “new pets in WotLK” that need to be changed, if you hadn’t noticed. Oh well, i get a firefly next weekend!
If undeads could be hunters (which would be weird, but epicly awesome) that bone spider would be THE PET. Although, I have to say, my belf hunter just wouldn’t suit any of the new pets. I tried the outlands pets too, but my perfect pretty is my red bat.

The deep crawler from old kingdom cannot be tamed. I think you have to go to Icecrown to get one.

Something I found seemed to indicate that the brown bone spiders were summoned, possibly by Death Knights? I can’t find it now, though, so I may be misremembering. At any rate, I have a pic of those too in case I need it later.
Is there a video out of the spirit beast in action? I’m interested in seeing its animations, particularly of its special attack.
