Name That Pet is back today with a clever tale from Grizzlehoof, a young Tauren hunter on an RP realm.

My name is Grizzlehoof, a fledgling hunter of the Sharpmane clan. I have recently completed my trials and was granted the ability to tame a companion. I had a grand vision regarding that companion, something that would prove my worth in my elders’ eyes.
You see, not that long ago I did a favor for Maur Raincaller. He was suffering from the venomous bite of a beast called Mazzranache, and required my aid to collect the components of the cure. He told me tales of his grandfather, and how even he had been unable to defeat this dread beast. I swore then and there that I would triumph over this “Mazzranache”, if it was the last thing I did.
So, at the completion of my trials, I set off across Mulgore in search of this beast. I found it much sooner than I expected. I heard it before I saw it, a grim screeching across the hills. I readied my spirit for the bonding, and cast my will upon the creature before my courage failed me.
The sun beat down upon the plains, sweat dripped into my eyes, and the bird did its best to claw me to death. I held firm despite all of this, and after what seemed like an eternity, the beast’s spirit bonded with my own, and he became my companion.
I closed my eyes and whispered a mantra of thanks to my ancestors for passing down to me the courage and fortitude to tame this mighty beast. I wiped the sweat from my face and looked down proudly at my new companion for the first time.
I am going to be the laughingstock of the clan.

I know we’ve helped name Mazzranache before, but honestly half the fun is seeing the taming stories that hunters write. So let’s get some suggestions rolling that fit this clever young hunter and his inadvertent pink tallstrider!
I named mine LosVegas I wanted just Vegas but they wont let you use that one.

I myself tamed Mazzranache and decided to kept the name Mazzranache because the name is in tauren lore hope that helps

I named my pink flamingo “Hilary”, but it definitely not apropos on an RP server. How about “Cassowary”, the 3rd largest extant flightless bird, and the meanest, nastiest of the lot. They have a bad attitude, and can split a man in half with a single kick.

I like cassowary, i’ve always thought that’s what these things are based on. also, you could go Rhea, Moa, Kiwi, Kakapo.. all other flightless birds.

Call her Gastornis. I’ll tell you why. I did a bit of checking about and the actual birds the tallstriders are modelled on are the extinct Gastornis, a giant flightless bird that ruled the earth in a short period between the dinosaurs dying out and humankind becoming the dominant species. During that time these birds ruled the planet with an iron claw and fed off the ancestors of the modern horse.
i second Boudica’s notion of Gastornis, or some variation of it. nice checking boudica, i’ve always just thought they were modeled after cassowaries and such.

Not a suggestion, but a name that fits in with the pink theme could be Tuscadero… as in Pinky Tuscadero from Happy Days.
For RP purposes, I would see if I could figure out an appropriate name in Taurahe. It could be a word describing Mazzranache’s appearance or personality as you see it.
This was a really difficult decision, and I thank everyone for their most excellent suggestions! In the end it came down to two, Phlahmingoh because it literally made me laugh out loud, and Bane, because it’s really got some meaning to it with regard to my story. In the end, I decided on Bane, so thank you to those who suggested Maurbane and Grizzlebane, because that’s what gave me the idea! *bows*
Great idea to shorten the suggestions, since you’d end up calling him Bane anyway as a nickname! Best of luck to the three of you in your adventures! :)
Wow, first of all that was a great story. And there have been made some very good suggestions here…I particularly like Cassowary and Gastornis based on their meanings.
Personally, I tend to follow a theme when naming my pets. This go around I chose to stick with old latin names like Brutus and Acario. I just tamed Mazz after the patch and chose “Diva”, a fitting old latin name for a large pink birdie.

Mazzranamethyst = a blend of Mazzranache and amethyst

Whenever i roll a hunter I have to get mazzranache and I change the sex to female (lol) and call her Afrika. She is beautiful and it seems like a great name for her.
