Beta/PTR Build 9061/9056 – Boring!
Blizzard brought down the Public Test and WotLK Beta realms last night to update them to a new build. Well, two new builds. Sort of.
I had thought that the PTR and beta were now running in sync, but somehow I downloaded PTR build 9056 into my PTR folder and beta build 9061 into my beta folder. I can log in the same PTR characters on both of them, but they are not cross-compatible. *shrug*
At any rate, so far there doesn’t seem to be much of interest in this (these) build (builds). (Okay, I’ll stop that now.) I don’t see any changes to pet skills or talents. Charge is still missing from the land-based Ferocity pets (and Ghostcrawler has confirmed that’s a bug, by the way) and ex-casters still look perfectly normal. *grin*
It’s possible that there are new pets out there for us to discover, but since I haven’t caught up with the e-mails already in my inbox about new pets I’ll leave that exploration to you guys for now. Let me know what you find!

The only change for us hunter is:
* The threat value of Growl (Rank 9 – Level 80) has been increased from 800 to 1234.
Other than that i havent found any change in this build… We’re probably entering a more stable phase with minor changes and bug fixes… The time for Wotlk is near!
:)))
Ah! I didn’t even have a Growl 9 recorded. That’s useful to know. Thanks!
And spore cloud is still broken, all hail Blizzard, champions of bug-fixing!
From what I’ve seen, these patches were simply bug fixes.
Lienna, what’s wrong with Spore Cloud?
It wont auto cast when you turn Auto cast on. and if it’s auto cast when you go into a fight you can’t even manually cast. You have to have it on manual from the start.
As a side note the ‘studder step’ for ranged pets is still broken too
I’m scared.
It seems like there are too many bugs for the patch to be going live in six days… : / Then again I’ve never paid attention to one of these before. What’s it seem like to everyone else?
Same as every Blizzard patch, e-syringe. Buggy, broken, and needing months of testing/updates to fix.
ive found the thing with sporecloud is that its set to not autocast unless there are multiple mobs around it, i try on a single target and yeah it wont pop and wont even happen if i try to force it, i leave it on autocast but pull multiples and it goes off. its weird, hope its not made like that on purpose.
With all the bugs still out there, I’m doubting the big patch will be out next week either. And to think I have this monday and tuesday off from school to play with it. :( I want my Core Hound and Silithid!
This may be right in line with the rumor that the new patch will go live next Tuesday.
But of course, it’s just a rumor…so who knows.
It sounds like Spore Cloud might be trying to use the Thunderstomp AI (which should also probably be changed now that Thunderstomp has a short cooldown).
Anyway … there are bugs with pets, and some of them are quite annoying. But seen in context of the scope of the changes, we’re actually doing pretty well I’d say. :>
The reason spore cloud and thunderstomp won’t go off on a single target, with auto-cast, is because AI is programed not to use AoE skills on one target. However it will function normally against multiple enemies. And as for manual clicking. Your pet suffers from GCD just like we do. That is why you can never seem to manually click it either. Turn off Smack/Claw/Bite/Whatever and then manually click.
Agreed with Mania. After seeing the vid of BRK going around AoEing stuff to death, I’m pretty damned impressed with our PvE abilities atm. I only hope that it’ll work that way for marks hunters….
I’m pretty positive of the patch going live Tuesday. It’s not unusual for bugs to still be in-game. Keep in mind though pets haven’t always been Blizzards forte of bug-fixing.
@Kalli
As long as you arent taking on targets that are too deadly, a marksmanship hunter can grab a tenacity pet like the gorilla and see similar results. The threat is all in the special move, and other than that BM just provides a sturdier pet.
Soooo just dont go crazy and you’ll do just fine.
The patch will for sure go live next Tuesday, even if there are bugs. The reason is that this patch is the pre-live test for WotLK coming 4 weeks later. This also means that we’ll see frequent bug fix patches along with the last WotLK beta builds during these 4 weeks.
Actually from what I’ve tested spore cloud won’t even work when its put up against groups, so its not taking thunderstomp’s targeting ability, its just plain not working. Also the auto cast thing preventing it being used at all, its not even as consistent as that, some things it will never use spore cloud on (try it on broken draenei). It comes up with a range error, seems spore cloud can’t be used in close melee range or something like that, I’m guessing the tooltip is something like “2-5 yards range”
I already reported this but my sporebat seems to also be unable to cast Spore Cloud at close range even while trying to manually cause it to activate. It just says that it is out of range target too close. This does not occur all the time so I am not sure what exactly is causing this to occur.
I hope they fix these problems cause sporebats have always been one of my favorite pets and now that they have some abilities I was looking forward to using one for my draenei hunter.
Here are the screenshots of my sporebat unable to cast Spore Cloud even though it is clearly within range on two separate occasions.

My money’s also on the 14th… I remember how buggy everything was up to the release of 2.4, so this doesn’t seem unrealistic.
Also, yay for aoe. After trying a gorilladin on the ptr I went and tamed Uhk’loc today (spawned at approximately 9:10am btw, if anyone’s looking). I can has gorilladin? :oD
Pet update. While camping out the spirit beast, one month and counting :(, i ran into the rare Devilsaur “King Krush”, he was pathing through the wasp nest at the south east corner of Sholazar Basin.I tried a couple of times to trap and tame but as i found out the hard way,hes immune to freeze traps…. So make sure to bring a healer along with you when you attempt him.
Mania,i was wondering if you knew anything more on Spirit beasts and if there were any more planned by blizzard.I and a njumber of other hunters have posted on numerous times asking if there were plans for more cats or other spirit beastsd but for some reason Blue will not comment at all on any posts that have anything to do with Spirit Beasts.
3.0.2 should come into the game already! We’ve waited way too long for it. 3.0.2 SHOULD be, AT LEAST, a month before the actual game comes out.
Do you think King Krush and the rare spirit beast are on the same spawn timer? They cannot be up together, like Humar and the speedy zhevra.
The zhevra and humar can be up at the same time, I’ve killed them both in the span of 30 seconds once (I was mad at humar for not being up on my other server where I have a hunter, I’m bad I know).
i had just completed a circuit of known spawn points of the spirit beast when i ran into King Krush.i did another circuit after i found him but no spirit beast.
Thats weird because I’ve camped Humar for well over his recommended spawn time.. no one came no one left the area… i kept seeing that dang zhevra running around.. and after someone killed him.. humar spawned.
I have seen Humar and the runner up at the same time as well…. and I have killed them just like Xenea said. Come to think of it, everytime I am by ratchet I check in to see if Humar is around. Have seen him several times in a short period. I hear his spawn time is insanely long, but I am sure i have seen him spawn within a couple hours before. Also, i have gone months without seeing him. My guess is, the spawn time isn’t on a fixed timer and is more of a random thing.
