Name That Pet: Agrima’s Boar

Name That Pet: Agrima & BoarFinal Name: IronHead

Today’s episode of Name That Pet comes to us from Agrima, an orc hunter from Coilfang. Agrima has a pet boar and is looking for help choosing an appropriate name.

Agrima writes:

I decided that I would roll an orc female Hunter. Her name is Agrima. She is one of my characters on Coilfang (US) PvP server. Her pet is a Boar.

Now, I am a role player by nature so I came up with a back story for her.

Agrima, like most orcs, values strength and honour and is a proud member of the Horde. She is well known for her tracking skills, survivability, beast mastery, loyalty to the Horde and most importantly, honour. She is a member of the Warsong Clan and is an honoured member of both clan and the Horde. Though she is not fond of the Alliance like most orcs, she would never attack a member if he or she was defenseless.

Anyway, I’m looking for a name that an honourable character would call their pet and also something traditional to lore. I thought of one name which was Bravetusk, but it doesn’t really sound that good in my opinion.

I don’t think Bravetusk is bad at all, but perhaps we can come up with something that suits Agrima better. Let’s get those suggestions rolling!

  1. Well maybe you should just give it a name that you think sounds cool… but if you like your “names” to have meaning then you could look up old celtic names (f.ex.)
or you could name it like the orcs get their family names by their actions, looks or something that happened to them: Elfkiller, Skullcrusher, Goretusk, Blackmane, Nocturnal, Charger (hmm too christmas-y) :-P

    Real life:
Attila (Sus scrofa attila: A very large subspecies of boars ranging from Romania, hungary and transylvania) and ofc. Attila (the hun)

Freyr’s (Norse god) boar was named Gullinbursti (“Golden Mane”)
so you could find two (foreign words and put them together to give some new meaning

    Semi-silly-ideas:
    Trufflefinder or just Truffle
    Softsnout
    Grumpy

    Goodluck

  2. I’ve had several boars in the past, and my hunter’s name is actually Boarwood, and I got into the habit of naming them “Mahogany”, because it’s a kind of wood and has “hog” in it. I’ve also named a few “Hogmuffin” so that when it aggroes mobs they yell “I take this Hogmuffin in the name of the shadow council!” I came up with a technique for naming a while back, which is to get someone who doesn’t speak your language (in your case, an ally friend) and say the name of the type of beast you have in your language, then name your pet what it showed up as to them. Read more about that at the following link.

  3. I named my boar Snuffles buecause thats what they do when idle, they snuffle around in the dirt, which is the cutest animation in the game I think, along with the wolf sniffing the ground, cat streches are kinda cute to, woops I’m getting off track.

  4. I think grey boars are the best colour skin. I had a boar once, the’re great. Chooseing a name is difficult so lets see if I can come up with a few you might like. :)

    Broxigar the Red: (Lore: http://www.wowwiki.com/Broxigar)
Lantresor of the Blade: (Lore: http://www.wowwiki.com/Blademaster)
    Eitrigg: (Lore: http://www.wowwiki.com/Eitrigg)

(Bah I really could not find very many names cause I am pressed for time. However, looking up lore is always fun. I found 3 good names that have great lore behind them. If you like them then great, if not thats okay! I hope you find a good one soon.)

    Ja, Naughty

  5. i tamed the grey one that showed up near the den, stuck ontop of the cacti, near the sarkoth quest giver.then named it CactusApple.it seems like its showing up on several realms so i guess something bumped its spawn point over slightly.
other names i could think of are
    proudsnout
    greytusk
    spike
    dirthoof
    just leave it named boar(?)

and im out of sugjestions.good luck and happy hunting what ever you name the boar…

  6. Ebbe – means brave boar in Scandanavian, short form of Eberhard

If you’re looking for something more straightforward and less exotic:
    Bloodtusk
    Stouthoof
    Strongsnout

Or one of my all-time favorites:
    MrWiggles

    ;)

  7. i suggest lard, noting that that was my pet boar in real life in a dream….i had a dream my house was overrun by boars for some reason

  8. I was doing a little research on general boar mythology when I wanted a name for my boar (I actually ended up with “scruffy”, based on the latin name for “sus scrofa” also, I felt like scruffy fit the personality of my particular boar) but if you want something more noble, I really like the sound of “Varaha” which in Hindu Mythology was one of the Avatars of Lord Vishnu.

  9. Hildisvini

In Norse mythology, Hildisvíni (“battle swine”) was Freyja’s boar which she rode when not using her cat-drawn chariot.

It was also the helmet of Áli that was taken by the Swedish king Adils after the Battle on the Ice of Lake Vänern that ended with Áli’s death.

In Beowulf, it is said that a boar on the helmet was there to guard the life of the warrior wearing it.

  10. Hey everyone. This is Agrima. I have decided to call my Boar IronHead. I came up with a back story for it. “One day, when Agrima was fighting off orcs from The Shadow Council, her boar charged at a group of orcs causing them to fly Several feet back. Soon after, the boar was hit on the head with a blunt weapon which left only a bump. On that day, Agrima decided to call her boar IronHead.” I like how IronHead sounded so I decided to go with it.
