Petopia Update: 8982 Families & Skills
Petopia has been updated for build 8982 — at least as far as pet families and skills go. (And I updated the FAQ yesterday for build 8970, and it should still be accurate.)
Note that the talent pages (including stat modifiers) still need to be updated, and I have a whole bunch of beasts (including some new skins) yet to add. That should happen tomorrow. (Well, later today.)

Woot for reorganization! Though once you get the new skins put in, could you mebbe make a post as to which families got new skins (though you don’t have to list them or anything) so no one has to go rooting through the unchanged family pages?
Still no word on tameable Hydras? 8(
On another note I will finally be ont thr PTR Tonight and am planning on running up some stats on pet families at lower levels; was wondering if the results could have a place here somewhere?
i checked hydras today after the new build, still untameable.
We should recheck all the ghostly pets in game and the cursed offsprings of Har’koa.
Is there a list of any pet changes from this patch? I see nothing here or on the usual sites (mmochamp, worldofraids, etc)… am I missing it?
The spirit owl at honor hold is still non-targettable :(
WOW!!! Thunderstomp is now only 25 focus AND it only has a 10 second cooldown! I have a feeling these will go back up before the release of Wrath, but I am hoping they stay the same. Been using my pet Gorilla a lot lately, and Thunderstomp was already great! These changes just make it amazing! Hope they keep these changes!!!
Do you think sometime you could add what pet posses the skills listed on the skills page?

Thanks for the updates! One thing I may ask, or I’m just too stupid to see it anywhere, but with the pet skills page would it be possible to label them as to which pet the skills belong to? I know some are easy - like Ravage belongs to the Ravager. But others I’m still getting a little mixed up!

It actually just occurred to me that, since Cats now have two skills, I wonder if Warp Stalkers will get a similar bit of polish. I’ve found a few bugs in the system and reported them. Rake SAYS it does bleed damage, and a bleed damage debuff, but the reality is it is doing all of it at one time, and a lot more than the tool tip says.
Darsh, so far, no real changes have been made to pets. We’re checking, but it doesn’t look like much of anything.
Rykros, Hydrae, Zhevrae, Stags, Kodo and Thunderbeasts are not tameable yet.
And, Mania, thanks for the update. I know you’re feeling rather less than healthy right now. Take care of yourself, ok :)
LOL, I just realized how badly that was structured. Rykros- no, Hydrae, Zhevrae, Stags, Kodos and Thunderstompers are not tameable yet. I certainly hope that we don’t have a Hunter running around trying to tame you.

Good to see Cats have a proper damage skill.
What i don’t like is Rake being very similar to Savage Rend (they are both bleed damage abilities) but with a much shorter cooldown.
I wonder if the Raptor possible attack power boost on critical strike actually makes up for the cooldown difference otherwise there will really be no real reason to use raptor over a cat since the latter does the same job but better.

Maybe if you skin him, you get his armor, lol. Hm…I wonder if he retains his skills when tamed? LOL. Oh well, have to laugh at my own bad grammer and spelling. It helps.
Really, though, I am running around trying to find a lot of stuff that is or isn’t there. I can report that Kyle the Frenzied is still NOT tameable. Nor is the Ghost Wolf in Mulgore. HOWEVER, what’s really odd is that he now shows up as a green blip when I track beasts. I checked a lot of the other things that are out there too. I’m trying to find Ghost Howl to see if he’s now tameable. Kurenaiyuri, my Blood Elf Hunter, is only lvl 25, so she’s a bit limited.

I don’t know if anyone’s reported any changes to Savage Rend yet. I haven’t checked either. Rake is still bugged though. I keep getting a single burst of damage rather than bleed, and the damage seems to happen randomly in that nine seconds. So, it might still be under construction.
I have a bit of a problem but I was wondering if someone out there has the guts to try this. XD We already know that we can tame those new demon wolfs that are usually considered ‘demons’. However, when I was snooping around for any other demon wolves that were considered ‘beasts’ I found this one. http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=16448, It’s a beautiful white demon wolf found only in Naxx… Which is the problem ;~; If anyone out there is willing to actually go into Naxx if it hasn’t been changed yet and try to tame him, you don’t know how much appreciation I would have to give you!
*nods at the suggestions* I had to do some quick DB reorganization because cats and spirit beasts broke my previously coded assumption that each family would have exactly one family skill. But that caused ripple effects and I decided to ditch some info temporarily so I could get the update out the door. :> Anyway, I’ll see what I can do about getting the skill info organized for easier reading once I have a chance.
But in the meantime if you click though to the skill page you can see what family has the skill. Its not as good as having it there in front of you, but if you are really stumped you can get at the info. :>
I was thinking why don’t they just add the basilisk skins and the demetridons to the croc family as new skins. Alot of them look cool and they all have 6 legs like crocs anyways. And kodos and clefthooves should be added to the new rhino family. Seeing as they have horns like the rhinoes anyways. And if they want to get really creative they could add threshers and frenzies and make them need water to stay happy =D. Just some thoughts.
would it be possible to list the dmg range and hp/armor value for each pet family also? info from an untalented pet/hunter to keep the scores base and have the info(dmg 130-248, hp 4500, armor 12000)listed with the +7%dps +0%ar -4%hp info. I originally thought all ferocity pets would have the same dmg range but sadly my wolf is still lackluster compared to other ferocity pets.
sorry to be off subject but the comment about rhinos and kodos sharing families made me think of this. werent some people griefing about having penguins in the north but i havent seen anything from those same people about having rhinos in a non tropical/subtropical habitat lol.

I got onto the PTR today, and tamed myself a Wind Serpent from the Barrens, and of course, he has bite. Now, I tested this out, and Bite has an attack hit of 54 - 76, I used it, and he hit up to 139 Physical, non-crit. I was shocked, and I think that all the other DPS moves like Bite stack with AP, Im not sure.. (Im playing and posting at the same time, Multi-talent! Yay!) But did Blizzard mention anything about the moves stacking with AP?

Stephf, keep in mind that your pet also does additional damage when happy (125% iirc), and many of the BM talents also increase pet damage. Don’t know whether you have those talents or not, though. :)
I agree, though, its nice to see pet attacks doing decent damage.
Blizzard mentioned a build or two ago that all pet skills would be scaling with the hunter’s RAP in a build or two, but I haven’t had a chance yet to test that for all skills.
