Hurm. Something to look into. I always hesitate with reptiles. I live in Upper MI and it gets -35 here in the winters. Granted our home stays in the 60s but still... that's kinda chilly for reptiles.

I'll think some more about it. She sure loves how they investigate us in the pet store. lol

PepsiJedi: Not at all. Bearded dragons and leopard geckoes are often recommended as first lizards because they are fairly easy to care for. Depending on what your wife is looking for in a lizard I would probably recommend one or the other. Beardeds are diurnal; leopards more nocturnal. Leopards need only a small (10 gallon) cage; beardeds need something more like a 55 gallon cage. Both eat insects, so that can be a factor if she's squeamish, but adult beardeds transition over to eating greens. I find baby beardeds more delicate and nervous, but the adults of both are fairly calm and many beardeds are downright social.

My wife REALLY likes Bearded Dragons when we see them in the store. Are they labor intensive?

That excellent Mania. Bearded Dragons are the best. Sadly, our long-time friend "Ivan" passed away not long ago after 10+ years of keeping us company.

We currently have an Adult Female Tarrentola Anulis (White Spot Gecko) and her two sons (Sadly, Dad passed away not long ago as well, he lived over 12 years and was fully grown when we got him, no idea how old he could have been then, but he wasn't young). And we recently added a Saharan Uromastyx.

Over the years we've had Tokay Geckos, Leopard Geckos, Madagasgan Ground Geckos (cute little buggers), a number of unidentfied "Pet Store" Geckos, Bearded Dragons, Rankins Dragons, and more. No Snakes though.

Nice to see a fellow herp-fan out there. Just don't get me started on my collection of Cats, lol.

Ouch, it sounds like you guys have had quite the adventure. I wish both you and your husband speedy recoveries.

Take all the time you need, Mania. We're not going anywhere. ^_^
