The Public Test Realms for patch 3.0 — the mega-patch that will bring the entire World of Warcraft up to speed with the mechanics of Wrath if not the new 70+ content — are now available for testing. (Well, not for beta testers. But beta testers have the beta.)
So I need your help answering this question:
What level 70-and-under pets can be tamed now that couldn’t be tamed before?
Now I’m not talking about exotics (although there are a few of those I’m not sure about yet). But a few beta builds back, Blizzard did a pass on the beasts in Northrend and allowed hunters to tame a lot of previously untameable pets from tameable families. That’s when Emerald Skytalons, Carrion Condors, and Frost Leopards became tameable, among a bunch of others.
But it looks like Blizzard may have hit a lot of the pre-Northrend beasts at the same time. For example, a hunter from Anachronos named Bloodelfer recently let me know that King Mukla can be tamed in beta. (King Mukla is the big King Kong-like ape on Jaguero Island in Stranglethorn Vale.) And both Dakender and nobbie from World of War.de e-mailed me to say that the Terokkarantula — the enormous elite spider from Terokkar Forest — can be tamed in the beta as well. Finally, I recently noticed myself that Skittering Crawlers from Azuremyst Island can be tamed in beta.
So I am very curious about what other pre-Wrath pets we may be able to tame in Patch 3.0. Petopia currently lists 136 pets level 70 and under that are part of a tameable pet family but which cannot be tamed. (And I know I haven’t got all of them!) Now some of those are NPC’s pets and some are summoned and some are bosses, but I’m willing to bet that at least a few of them will be hunter pets after Patch 3.0.
So if you have a chance on either the 3.0 Public Test Realms or the Wrath beta to chase down some of these creatures, I’d love to know what you find! (But keep in mind that, unfortunately for beasts that are NPC pets, Beast Lore sometimes isn’t accurate and you have to actually try tossing a tame at ‘em to see what happens.)
Lol Seidouyumi and Hellshot, yes I am aware they are elites, but I was responding to Mania asking what was now tamable in the 3.0 Public Test Realms, not in Beta.
If I can manage to find enough people on the PvE PTR I will go inside UBRS to check out The Beast. So far when talked about on Wowhead in the Core Hound pages I’ve been ridiculed and treated like a piece of crap for just thinking that it and Magmadar might be tamable. They do appear as tamable in the listing of Core Hounds though, which is why I’m curious about it.
Up until now the concencus was that skull boss mobs where always 3 levels above us, but now I’m not sure if this is true or not. We have a chance to test this out, yet I’m being shut down by people, saying there’s no use in trying because it will fail. I don’t understand why people act like that. =/
I do find it strange that two skull boss mobs are appearing as tamable, though I think it might be a screw up on Blizzard’s part, and that they got flagged as tamable when they made the Core Hounds exotic pets. In which case we would need to report it to Blizzard as there would be no reason to have those two mobs being flagged as tamable if we can never be able to tame them in the first place.
Yet there’s still a slight possibility that we’ve been wrong all these years about skull boss mobs, and that they either don’t even have a level, or that they are level 1 and their stats goes up and down to match 3 levels above the players fighting them.
This is why I want to try it. I want to see it for myself, that when I use Tame Beast on either The Beast or Magmadar that I will either see a “Creature to high level.” error message, or that I’ll see little hearts floating above my head and theirs. And quite frankly, I think Mania would also like to know too if we can tame them or not.
If some of you guys on the PvE PTR want to try this out let me know. We have nothing to lose anyway. And it could also be fun running an old world instance that almost no one goes into anymore. =P
Terokkarantula is so LARGE that it doesn’t run close enough to you during the taming process. You’d have to lay the trap close enough and back up before starting the tame though for an Elite she is not as bad as most of the other things. As soon as I can get back onto the PTR I’ll get with my mom and check out a couple things in a couple instances *nods*
Going to check out the Green Carrion Bird in Terok, he might be tameable now as well (If not oh well, it was worth a shot right?)
@ Shinryu Masaki:
It sounds like a good idea, I’d sure like to go and help. I have a 70 Horde and 70 Allie transferred to the test realm by now I’d think. Unfortunately, power’s out, might not be up until next Sunday even.
But anyway…
I believe that people assume bosses are 3 levels above the max of the dungeon cap when they’re a skull is because of the resisting/dodging/etc. that they do. I highly doubt they’d be level 1 with great stats, that’s just silly. Much easier to make them a max level, slap on a ?? mask on them, and twink the stats.
But, could The Beast and Magmadar be tamable? Possibly. Sure would be fun as heck to go and try, no?
Hey everyone… In kind of the same vein as “newly tameable”, I was wondering if anyone on the PTR can check to see if some caster pets have been “normalized”, for lack of a better term… In particular I’m curious about the nether rays in either Netherstorm or Zangarmarsh (i.e. any of the ones not in an instance)… Just curious… If anyone has a chance, I’d appreciate it… Thanks again…
I tamed an elite Chimera in Feralas on the little island.
I also tamed a rock worm at the entrance to the green side of Maraudon but it looks like the Maraudon instance is down on the test realm.
Does anyone know how much attack power is added to the pet’s attacks? I believe Ghostcrawler advised that all pet attacks now scale with attack power.
Wasps are tamable — at least ones in Zangarmarsh. I tested it out on a blue & yellow one (the ones that drop the minipet), as well as Blacksting the quest wasp.
Also, fun thing to do with a Devilsaur:
Go inside one of the mines in Elwynn Forest, and set it to Aggressive.
Rawr! Stomp Stomp Stomp!
Is it just me, or did they extend the range pets will target things on Aggressive?
Korianna, I tamed a nether ray in Shadowmoon Valley and it had stats on par with other cunning pets. I am not going to say for positive, but it looks like caster pets are gone.
Okay, so, I’ve wanted that purple spider skin FOR FREAKING EVER… but a) it’s in Naxxramas, and b) Naxx is moving. How do people know that it’s tamable if it’s only tamable on the Beta but is in Naxxramas? Isn’t Naxx an 80s raid instance? How the heck can I GET one of these?!
So. . will this pre-wrath patch include the new stable slots, or will we have to wait on northrend for that? i neeed mooore :)
Yes – two more stable slots are available for purchase from any stable master.
The cost was something like 50 and 150 gold each.
Can anyone find out if the Pterrodax in Un’Goro are able to be tamed ?
Pterrordax’s are not tameable on the ptr nor are the Elites with the horns.
Palla! Thank you kindly! Got a core hound – on of the spawns of Urvous (sic). His name is now Garm. What I am finding hard is the pet talent distribution. Again, ty for telling me where to find him.
Shinryu Masaki, let me know. I’m Rikaku on the PvE server and I’d be more than happy to help out. I have a 70 hunter on the PvE and a 66 druid i can bring as well if we need it.
It’s just having the ptr not drop us thats the tricky part.
Any word on the new cat ability, Rake?
Thanks for checking Palladiamors… And a small hurray!
Ok, quick note-
3.0.2 includes everything that they are planning on putting into Wrath EXCEPT, and this is important, Northrend. This means all slots will be open, all talent trees will go up to 51, and exotics will be tameable. What is nice is that Inscription will also be activated and given to everyone even if they choose not to get Wrath.
I’m already setting up a character to be an inscriber.
Kind of off topic-
As a BM hunter I rolled Seperation Anxiety and the constantly changing animation is driving me nuts. Is it just me or does it bother anyone else. I like how it works but the animation is annoying.
It drives me nuts too Morgon, though I find my pets lag when walking alot. It’s hard to say if its a bug or just severe lag though. The PTR is crowded more than ever, and it’s down 50% of the time XD
Stabled Panthers Rapters & Naranches in Nagrand are still untameable on ptr
Morgon and Rikaku,
I put it down as a bug in the beta :) that constant flashes of light and noise is making folks point and stare at me :( and I am all ready to find the smallest darkest hole and crawl into it… Everyone I keep inspecting has purples. I’m here in greens and some basic blues….
But I did find a core hound and it’s heavy feet is disturbing. Has anyone notice that when you sic your pets on a mob and call them back before they hit or aggro, the mob attacks you?
Harakeke: I’ve noticed that too. Only I noticed it a patch or 2 ago.
someone check the corrupted sabers in felwood i doubt it but just in case ;]
http://petopia.brashendeavors.net/html/mobs/mob_corruptedsaber.php
I actually like the Corehound steps, it’s quite “awe” ing. But I’ve noticed that my pet isn’t gaining happiness when Bloodthristy goes off. Does my pet have to be in the not happiest food mood? XD
*Laughs* Sorry Barnes, those only spawn during a very specific horde quest, and aren’t flagged for either side, so no luck with that.
“Any word on the new cat ability, Rake?”
My good ol’ Ghost Saber still has Prowl, and Prowl only. No rake as of yet… :(
Tamed Uvuros, and it seems he only does the stomping sound, while Kurken does the stomping and groundshaking effect. anyone else get this effect as well?
Some of these new tamable beasts seem a bit strange. For example, Gammerita is a quest beast, but there are regular turtles that look just the same. Why make him tamable then?
Rotgrip of Maruadon still untameable.
I tried to tame one of the Twilight Serpents – they’re still untamable however, even for beast masters.
Also, the Ancient Grimtotem Spirit Guide’s moving animation is still bugged although it shares the same model with the new shaman Ghost Wolves, which are fine. I really hope someone in the beta posts regarding this issue, it completely ruins the otherwise amazing wolf.
Stabled pets in Nagrand not tameable (horde might be able to tame Kurenai stabled animals, but doubt it since ally can’t tame theirs)
Great Cat spirit and Great Bear Spirit not tameable
Hm. I’ll go check out the beast if I could get a hand. PvE PTR server, Horde side :P
Naztheros.
..Heck, I can’t even find it so help is greatly appreciated X3
Sorry for double posting, but I’ll help AFTER class.. XD;
Around 2-4ish Eastern time.
Any word on Kodos and Clefthooves though? :/
The 2 Hyena’s in EPL labelled as Blighthounds are flagged not tameable.
The scarlet hounds in EPl were flagged Tamable, however I did not teset the “pet of npc cant be tamed” issue.
Just a little tiny thought on the Terrokarantula. When the original beastie died, I recall it had a different death animation to standard spiders – instead of leaping up and landing on its back, it just collapsed onto its belly (which looks better on an enormous spider). It’s a bit of a grisly “special” but I wonder if the tamed version retains this?
Anyone tried Roar in Kara? Ok so it would take a lot of effort and have to hope get Oz at the opera event. But Roar is a beast and so the possibility is there that he is tameable. Would be kinda cool to have, also as far as I know is some other bosses with same model, Tigons I think they are called, not sure who though.
When i went to un’goro after i got on the PTR you would be lucky to find a devilsaur XD lucky for me one walked right into me and i started taming it and another hunter trapped it to stop its knockback. When i went to get the kurken people had actually formed a line in the cave waiting to tame him by the time i left it stretched all the way outside XD. I really like the wasps for their idle animations to the sound they make Blacksting just looks awesome as a pet. I havnt been able to do any exstensive testing on worms or silithids yet.
plz, check hippogryphs, wyverns, El Pollo Grande and gryphons!
Bactris – the original models were the transformed shapes for two bosses in Zul’gurub, the tiger and the panther bosses respectively. Their regular forms were trolls. They weren’t beasts, though. Also, there was a set of magic items of some kind (rings probably) that had a chance of transforming a PC into that form.
Bradagore -
Just had to correct ya : it was a set of fist weapons :)
@Syrelil: Clefthooves remain untameable.
is Snowpaw http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?npc=27119 and Daggercap Hawk http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?npc=24172 realy tameable?
@21 “Angered Arakkoa Protector – Beast Lore says this is tamable, but when you try to tame it, you get an error that says the creature is already controlled.. :(”
Try finding a mage to tag along with you and sheep the handler, thats what I had to do in Bot to get a black and red dragonhawk. The handler needs to be alive but unable to comand the pet – i.e. sheep the sucker!!!!! :P
Might it be possible to trap the handler then?
Think I’m gonna give that a try…
Rikaku on both the PvE and PvP server (Alliance side) is up for helping anyone with Beast if they desire. Though, you’ll need the seal of ascension as I still never got one D=
Della in Emerald Sanctuary is still untameable
Zhevras are still untameable
