Core Hounds on Parade

Unfortunately I was a little distracted this morning, but I wanted to share some of the great Core Hound screenshots and videos that have been coming out of the beta.
First up, the header image in this post is from Miyari, the same Miyari from Wowhead that let us know about Core Hounds on Friday. In this pic, the Core Hound is using both Charge and Lava Breath at the same time. I love how you can see the back-steam from the hound, the Lava Breath effect, and the Charge effects all at once.
Miyaru also sent a great shot of the Kurken in full Bestial Wrath, looking very intimidating.
Chilljin, of the guild “Stumr und Drang” from Khaz’goroth (EU), sent me a great shot that really lets you see the size of these brutes.
Toons sent me a simple guide for taming Uvuros. (That’s him to the side, renamed Pickles.)
You need at least 2 people for this to work. First find a healer. I like druids in this case.
Pull Uvuros and spam Distracting Shot for a while to build your threat.
Once you have enough of a lead in threat from your healer, wait ’til Uvuros fears you then begin to tame him.
Done!
Cuphat posted a link to a bunch of screenshots he took of his new Ancient Core Hound in the comments of our previous Core Hound thread. My favorite: Clifford his big, BIG red dog looming over the inhabitants of Stormwind.
This is only a small sample of the great pictures I’ve been getting of core hounds! Everybody seems to love these big, drippy, lovable puppies. I apologize if you sent me a picture that I didn’t use, but feel free to post your own pics over on the forums.
[edit] Ack! I totally forgot to add other bloggers’ round-ups of Core Hound pics!
- Warcraft and Other Hooha has a lovely Kurken foursome.
- BRK has an exhausting tale of beta, plus screenshots, more screenshots and (as always) a video. (I think he likes these guys.)

I am soooo getting these if I don’t respec to Marksmanship. And Woot! First post!
Uvuros can also be tamed with just the help of another hunter with a tencaity pet. The other hunter shoots him and eats the fear then feigns death and casts roar of sacrifice on you while you tame (I did this last night with a hunter in blues that wanted Uvuros).
anyone find out if u can tame the beast in ubrs?
@Fleka: No, it’s not tameable =(
You probably can’t tame boss mobs like the Beast or Magmadar because they are “boss” or “??” level, and therefore really three levels above you. Feel free to prove me wrong of course. x)
LMAO Clifford. XD
I just posted up the story of my Kurken tame in the screenshot forum (rather than flood Mania’s email inbox with pictures).
For those of you too lazy to read it, here’s a pic of it next to a female Draenei hunter.

Like I said in another post, we don’t know if The Beast and Magmadar are tamable or not because no one has tried it yet. At least as far as we know. However wowhead list them as tamable. And according to wowwiki:
Skull type bosses are the hardest mobs to kill in WoW. Their level is not displayed as a number, but as a death’s head sign. These bosses have a “dynamic” level – when a numeric level is required for some calculation, they are considered to be 3 levels above the player character involved in that calculation. That is, if both a level 60 warrior and a level 65 druid both tank the same skull type boss, the boss will make crushing blows on the warrior as if it was 63, and on the druid as if it was 68. Similarly, the boss will resist their respective powers as a 63- and 68-level creature would.
They said considered 3 levels above, not are 3 levels above. For all we know the skull mobs might be level 1 in reality and adjust their stats to match who they’re fighting. The only true way to find out is for a beta tester to go do some field testing and go trek through UBRS to try and tame The Beast, as I’m not sure someone alone could get to Magmadar solo.
Getting there may not be that hard. Run FD, Run FD etc. . . might get you there pending FD doesn’t get resisted. And you pick a safe spot to FD. Solo’d myself through LBRS for the worg pup that way. Its kinda hard on a pet that you may take along as trash. But you’re gonna dump it to try and tame the boss. . . so no biggie.
Might be nice to take a druid to stealth along with you, for some healing, cause up against a boss, you might need it. But just maybe ;-)
By the way this is slightly off topic . . . but core hounds do fire. We’ve also got nature, and now nature/frost, and we’ve got bats and shadow dmg. Next we need something that will do arcane dmg and Phase worms are just the ticket. I think they’d make a great ferocity pet. (although they may do nature dmg . . . I can’t remember)
Maybe Mana Wyrms become tamable and do arcane damage…
Anyway the only exotics i can see implemented are Hydras, Basilisks and Mana Wyrms.

CORE HOUNDS!!! FINALLY!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooo :D
Fire core hound, and the elune hound.
Then there’s the demonic type in netherstorm.
They’ll make great pets i think.
SOMEONE GO CHECK THE HIPPOGRIPHS I WANT ONE WHEN WRATH COMES OUT!!!!
Hey i wonder has anyone tried stags (deer things) i mean seriously there just deer or how about basilisks or even pterrordax and deimetradons i mean there dinosaurs just like devilsaurs and raptors….?
If anyone knows whether blizz mite make them tamable or not not id like to know.
Can’t run through UBRS – you have to kill the trash rooms to open the door before Pyroguard Emberseer, then need to kill him (which, by the way, requires at least 2 others to click the thingy), and then have to kill Rend.
You are right, it’s a dynamic level, which means that they it is very, very unlikely that it would be tameable – and more to the point, even if it could be, it would likely be a bug that would be fixed before live. All actions against it is treated as if it is 3 levels above you – I highly doubt Tame Beast would be an exception to that rule. That’s not even taking into account how unlikely actually taming him would be either – he very often charges off at someone (which, as far as I know, would break the taming process) as well as AoE fears quite often as well – I don’t see it happening, honestly.
If I could actually get back there on beta, I wouldn’t mind trying just to dispel the rumors that he can be tamed – but that’s easier said than done, really. I could probably get my druid friend in on it, but then we’d still need one more to get past Pyroguard.
@ Rudda
You ran and FD’ed your way through LBRS? Wow. o_o; That’s some patience man, I fought my way through it all for that worg pup and the little spider. In so-so blue gear too at the time.
@ Cuphat
In that case just use the Gazzarak taming way. Bring a few paladins and stun lock him long enough for the taming to finish.
I’m fairly sure The Beast is immune to stuns. ;)
All beta testers go check the demonic core hounds in netherstorm they may be tameable also
I’m having way too much fun with the core hound/Kurken – the whole two headed dog thing is just so enjoyable, especially since I can remember being killed off by Omen at the Lunar Fest way back in the day. There’s something so satisfying about a revenge taming!
I can NOT wait for the patch to go live so I can start seeing the new pets everywhere! I’m thinking our guild is going to go insane for our hunter alts. I’m hoping for a lot of Pet Taming Parties in the future!
For the record, I checked both Azshara stags and Feralas hippogryphs not too long ago and neither were tamable.
