The realms aren’t exactly all the way up yet — that is, I’ve managed to log in a few times but never for more than about 60 seconds so far. So this is going to be even more disjointed than usual.
My token panel finally works! It’s a sad little token panel, though. I have 3 Badges of Justice and … nope. World server went down. Well at least I don’t have to carry those 3 Badges in my bags anymore.
Since I’m offline: WotLK Wiki is reporting the first hunter glyphs aimed at pets in this build:
- Glyph of Revive Pet: Gives your Revive Pet spell a chance to not lose casting time when you take damage.
- Glyph of Mend Pet – Your Mend Pet spell increases your pet’s happiness slightly.
- Glyph of Possessed Strength – Increases the damage your pet inflicts while using Eyes of the Beast.

I haven’t been able to look at these myself in-game (the servers just came up after all) so keep in mind I might have this wrong. But I am happy to see these — I’d been figuring I’d mostly ignore glyphs (the same way I mostly ignore enchantments), but that Glyph of Mend Pet looks like something I can definitely use.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s part of the whole world event thing. I did add those glyphs to the form a bit ago, but they may have been updated. That one that boosts happiness is going to be in huge demand.

Yeah, if I could stay logged in more than 30 seconds now I’d head out of town. Theory on the beta boards is that turning on the event was an accident and it’s crashing the servers, but at any rate all of the world servers are coming down every minute or so right now.
It’s ok, Mania. You’re busy with work, Beta, more Beta, updating the site, and can’t always catch the posts. I just wanted to let you know that I’d grabbed them, posted them, and we discussed the Glyph of Mend Pet as an almost Must Have for any raider. I’m currently unemployed and facing the sinking realization that the only place I can work that I can walk to is Walmart. But, it’s better than nothing.

Mania, death knights are treated exactly one step above scourge in main cities it seems. I wonder if that will changed based on your rep, or if death knights will just always be the outcasts of Azeroth?

I remember Florida, if it wasn’t the ants, it was the roaches, if it wasn’t the roaches, it was the spiders, if it wasn’t the spiders, your house probably burned to the ground or was blown away by a hurricane. I don’t need to hear about it, I remember having that same problem growing up.

Bugger, should have dug around a bit more before posting. AFTER you finish ALL of your quests in Ebon hold, you’ll catch up to the time line, and be treated like anyone else. Seems like Mrs. Mania here skipped a few quests and the rest of the world still see’s her as one of Arthas’s boot lickers.
Actually it makes me want to make a death Knight and just not do the quests, somehow being attacked by my own faction’s NPCs amuses me greatly.
Palladiamors: That makes sense. I finished all the quests, but that was some weeks ago — I bet they added more since then. :>
Seidouyumi: The worst bit is when the ants get into my underwear drawer. It’s no fun putting on a bra and immediately getting bit.

As for the whole “I’m being attacked by my own people, RUN!” makes sense given that you really don’t want people skipping those quests.
I would imagine that the bra would be the least of my worries for the underwear drawer… I wouldn’t want anyone to see me walkin’ funny or nothin’

Yea, if I read right they added some new quests to the death knight starting area, but I can’t remember when…. *Laughs* This ‘attacked by your own faction’ thing was also only added this patch, so it may be feasible that they added said new quests just now, so that most people would experience that rather cool new behavior first hand.

Lava breath looks interesting. It doesn’t look to be an AoE type ability like the dragonhawks. That makes it entirely more useful in raid.
Hmm…might have to try out one of these babies. Although I’ll be grabbing the Kurken. I don’t care if he’s in alliance territory and the cave he’s in is surrounded by furlbogs. If I like a core hound, I might take it as my exotic instead of a silithid…and keep my spore bat for laughs.
I’m glad they have another ferocity pet. 2 exotics per tree is perfect imo.
I went and snagged the core hound that’s pictured in your previous entry – because I’ve always loved The Kurken and the quests over there, so it just seemed the right thing. Plus I just don’t like neon green for some reason. Now if we can ever tame those hounds in MC – oh, I have some long boring afternoons that those hounds owe me for. And how cool – I’d get to revenge tame an MC hound just like I can eventually revenge tame a devilsaur – there’s something so fun about having a pet that was once a huge annoyance.
Though I’ve given up trying to log back in – I just kept getting kicked off. Will try and actually go play with the hound tomorrow. Oh best part for me – three other people had tamed The Kurken when I showed up. And they waited for me to tame him – so I have a 4 Kurken screenshot I’ll post tomorrow. And the only sad part – all three were blood elves and my night elf was saddened to only see all the hunter chat in /say and missed out on it. We did a lot of friendly emoting though. Good times. :)

The Ancient Core Hound in MC is tamable, but only the most dedicated and non-lazy hunters will go there for one( most of them will grab Kurken or the SMV ones), makeing them a trophy for BM Hunters.
Eh, if I get the kurken it will be because I love the skin, not from any sort of laziness. I just have at thing with white pets.
Well, doesn´t have anything to do with pets, but I yust read on a german wow-page that theres a new Questline that introduzes the Deathknights into the Horde/Allianze, so maybe you have to do that one to become unhostile in the cities ;)
Sadly I wasn´t able to find out where to do this quest, yust that it has something to do with Highlord Morgraine.

And I agree with Palladiamors. I love the skin of the Kurken…I just don’t care for the “melting face” look of the others. Though if I talk my guild into going with me to MC for one, I just might grab a red one. :P
I understand, but it just feels that the ‘molten hounds” arent getting the same atention as the other two skins…and its not becouse people dont like it, its becouse most of the hunters cant tame a MC hound without a healer and would rather pick one form SMV or Azuremyst.
Oh and at the topic of the Core-Hounds… would be interresting to look if Magmadar is tameable ;-) I for myself would get me one if it´s posible xD
Coldarra (the EU beta realm) is partly playable, Kalimdor and most of the BC areas are not affected from the 30 secs reboot syndrom. So I am unsure if a DK spell or just an instance entry can corrupt the whole northrend continent. I guess they didn’t test it enough and just want to keep the community busy ;-)
Meanwhile the open beta from WAR knocks at the door (tomorrow), I am curious if there are similar char classes like the hunter with pets also. May be it makes sense to extend then Mania’s Arcania by WAR pets ;)
I doubt Mamadar can be tamed, but that doesnt stop you from getting an Ancient Core Hound.
There is a dk spell that crashes the server, and someone uses it and crashes the server…

Oh good the MC ones are tamable! I’m impressed that someone managed to do it – not that MC is hard, just that the server crashorama of late has meant that it must have taken them a while to do it.

The death knight spell Unholy Blight rank 2 is causing the servers to crash. Storm Peaks is down for the count, can’t be hot fixed up and will require a patch, and they have disabled the spell that is responsible for the crashes everywhere else, might help with the shut downs.
Peter, WAR has two direct pet classes in the War Lion and the Squig herder, and two indirect in the engineer and something dark elfy that I despise. War lions play like rogue meets hunter, with positional abilities that require you to strike from behind or the side while your pet has attention. Your war lion matures as you level, and goes from a cub to a senior looking, badass war lion. From my play time with it it requires a bit more managing then hunters on live are used to, both with your positioning and your pets, but still makes for a fun experience. Squig herders are the opposite, they tame different types of meatballs-with-teeth to do different things, from ranged combat, to AoE combat, to even having the squig herder hop into its mouth and control it directly. The squig herders themselves are ranged combatants. I know for a fact that even if the squig herder dies, the squigs will keep fighting, but I am not sure on whether or not the war lion will, or if it goes feral and just tries to eat anyone near by. Course it could just disappear, I’ve yet to die before my lion.
The other two classes are just turrent summonable pets, with each having an AoE, a long ranged, and a short ranged summons that sits beside them and attacks the nearest target.
anyone know the minimum amount of people you would need in order to get a molten core core hound?
I would gues 1-2 healers and 1-2 additional hunters for misdirection to keep the aggro on you.
@Palladia: The War Lion sounds like it would actually be really fun for me, since I enjoy micromanaging my pet in WoW to a degree most hunters probably don’t. ;) Alas I don’t think I have the brain power to manage two MMOs…
I really enjoy the war lion, and you can switch your focus around as you see fit via mastery points, or talents. One mastery puts you and your lion on equal footing as far as strength goes, buffing both master and pet in equal parts. Another focus’s on your pet being a distraction, for your sneak attacks and such, and the final one makes YOU the distraction, while your pet performs the sneak attacks. And I am at current managing WoW, LoToRO, on and off Tabula Rasa and RF online, and I just said goodbye to EVE. I am a patient person, but taking weeks on end to train up a single skill got a bit ridiculous for me in the end, especially since you can only train up on character per account at a time.
As a side note, yes I have a life. I work in sales and have a steady, loving girlfriend ((Thank god)). I also find time to write during the day, though I have been slacking on that a bit lately. Back to work for me!
Double post for earlier clarification, the AREAS of Storm Peaks and Icecrown are down and will need a patch to be fixed. I thought they meant servers, sorry about that!

I think as soon as I have a job (I’m applying to Walmart YUCK) I’m going to end up playing both games.
I’m also doing a lot of writing, and got roped into writing for a blog and making a bit of a splash already too.
Squigs don’t persist after the Herder dies, unfortunately. They need to fix that on the main site.
Kurkan will be way more common than other varieties of Core Hound.
I wish they made its lava breath be more of a mist/blizzard than actual lava though, but I’d understand if they didn’t do that and just have it be effectively a reskin of the normal CH.
I suspect that The Kurken will be more common simply because of location, especially for the Alliance, and his level.
Did they null that? Probably for the best, really. I wonder if they made it into a mastery? The goblins are hilarious, but I was having way to much fun with my sword master and war lion.
