Of course you’ve read about Core Hounds already. I’ll be adding information about Core Hounds to that post instead of this one to keep everything neat.
[edit] Because of the server instabilities, I can’t stay logged in for more than about 30 seconds. So I’m calling this liveblogging post done. When and if I can get in later this evening, I’ll post what I find in a new (probably shorter and more coherent) post. [/edit]
But what else is interesting in this build? Well let’s see!
The realms aren’t exactly all the way up yet — that is, I’ve managed to log in a few times but never for more than about 60 seconds so far. So this is going to be even more disjointed than usual.
My token panel finally works! It’s a sad little token panel, though. I have 3 Badges of Justice and … nope. World server went down. Well at least I don’t have to carry those 3 Badges in my bags anymore.
Since I’m offline: WotLK Wiki is reporting the first hunter glyphs aimed at pets in this build:
- Glyph of Revive Pet: Gives your Revive Pet spell a chance to not lose casting time when you take damage.
- Glyph of Mend Pet – Your Mend Pet spell increases your pet’s happiness slightly.
- Glyph of Possessed Strength – Increases the damage your pet inflicts while using Eyes of the Beast.
[edit] Turns out Seidouyumi posted about these days ago. I really need to keep up with my own forums better!
I haven’t been able to look at these myself in-game (the servers just came up after all) so keep in mind I might have this wrong. But I am happy to see these — I’d been figuring I’d mostly ignore glyphs (the same way I mostly ignore enchantments), but that Glyph of Mend Pet looks like something I can definitely use.
Hey, I got back in on my Death Knight bank alt! I thought he might work, since he’s standing in the bank in Orgimmar.
… where all the NPCs are now hostile to him.
Oh my. I wonder what happened here. They keep pelting me with … is that rotten fruit?! And talking about holding an execution. Oh, boy. How am I going to get out of …
World server down. Whew! That’s a relief.
Seriously, though — as a bank alt he’s now somewhat screwed. I wonder if this is the pre-WotLK world event or something.
So, this is turning out to be a very boring liveblogging session! Anyone want to hear about the ant problem in my closet? *grin* (Don’t say yes to that.) Okay. I’m going to call this quits until the servers calm down a bit and let me in. Sorry for the false start!
Palla: As far as I know, despite what the Squig Herder description says on the site, Squigs have never persisted after the goblin’s death. Given the RVR emphasis of the game, it’d be appropriate to have all pets persist after their owners’ death to add a layer of complexity when choosing which target to spike down first in PVP.
I want to play a Herder just so I can use their detaunt skill, the animation for which features the herder soiling themselves loudly complete with a little puddle appearing under their feet. This is 100% winship.
And Seidouyumi: Yeah, that goes without saying, but also because the Kurken is a more, er, friendly model than the slavering, pseudo-siliconic version that you see in MC and Outland.
A final note for Hunters that want to play Herders: If you’re looking for a furry companion that you can bond with, understand the herder’s squigs are disposable living ordnance and not an actual ‘companion’ pet. You literally summon a different squig each time, you don’t ‘resurrect’ the same one. You cannot name them.
I actually kinda prefer the feel and aesthetic of the WoW hunter TBH, but that’s a stylistic thing, the herder is still a great utility RDPS class and it has three distinctly different builds that support it.
Huh, I could have sworn I remembered early closed beta people talking about it…. oh well. But thats the squig herder, not the white lion though, Infares. But I do have to agree with you, although it is probably just from years of playing WoW and only playing WAR on laggy servers for short periods of time. WAR has the potential to get you uber attached to one pet, much the way many of us find one pet that absolutely screams out to us or our characters, and keep it forever. That being said, I definitely don’t see it being for everyone. The RvR or PvP emphasis will turn many people off, though the PvE content is fun in and of itself. That, however, is a potential problem I see with it. I nearly enjoyed the public quests more then I enjoyed the RvR.
My father-in-law got a beta key for Warhammer online and gave it to my husband and I. It’s really fun, but there are still bugs and crashes. I have a White Lion, and the war lion is awesome. It even changes colors each time it’s summoned. Haven’t tried a squig herder yet…
I know a lot of people that are planning on getting an MC hound – but since beta means you can’t keep anything you work for, everyone usually focuses more on just testing the pet, seeing if everything works, that sort of thing. (I’ve already been volunteering my druid for MC Taming Parties when the patch goes live.) And I really like the orangey MC hound over the neon green one. The one thing I’ll say that’s a big plus for Kurken is that his flame/aura/smoke/whatever you call it that trails after the hound – is whiteish and almost transparent. Which will be nice if you’re not into having that effect trailing all over the place. I’m not as into the neon green flame/smoke – but I do like the MC hound’s orange effects.
Meanwhile the Death Knights are too cool. We’re going to be knee deep in them, and it will make us all crazy because they’ll be all over the place. But at the same time I’m going to encourage everyone to try the class just because the start zone quests are too much fun to miss.
I’m the other way around. I’ve no urge for the orange (( and apperently harder to get)) Core hound. I’ll be going for the neon green myself. But then I love green and he’s perfect for my green orc, who has a green Ravager and a green outlands spiky raptor. The green two headed dragondog will fit right in, in the stable. Now if we can just keep him from eating the other pets. Mmmmm Maybe a few gnome snacks now and then….
I have a question! Don’t forget my question people. “Did they shrink Devilsaurs?? In Big Red Kitty’s Core Hound video that Devilsaur wasn’t much bigger than that Troll… :-(“
Well for one Christy, keep in mind that trolls hunch over, so that they aren’t much bigger then a human. For another, the devilsaur was still much taller then the core hound. The hound just a ton more substance. That being said, I have no idea, and haven’t heard one way or the other if they have been shrunk or not.
Kristy* ….yes, yes, double for me….
Thank you Pall!
As far as i know, they shrink. They dont stay big as a building or tree in darnassus. But they’re still bigger than many other hunter pets. From screenshots I’ve seen, they are taller than the player characters by a bit. But hey, last I knew, they make a loud stompy noise when they walk! :)
One mildly amusing bit with the exotic pets is that when you first log in, they’re often their pre-taming size for a second or two before shrinking down to their normal (but still quite big) pet size.
So I happen to know that the first floor of a gnomish inn comes up to somewhere around Tyrantus’s hip bone :)
