Beta Build 8905: Core Hounds?!

WotLK: The KurkenMiyari, Content Manager (and apparently “Bearorcat Overlord”) from Wowhead just let me know that they found what they believe to be a new tameable pet family in today’s beta patch:

Core Hounds.

We don’t have many details yet because the servers aren’t up, but core hounds appear to be an exotic Ferocity pet. And you’d better believe that as soon as the realms are up I’ll be begging for screenshots! *grin* (Actually Miyari volunteered to send some as soon as she has them as well. Now that’s service!)

You can keep an eye on Wowhead’s data on the Core Hound pet family page.

And thank you very much to Miyari and Wowhead for the personal heads up. I really appreciate it.

[edit] (My laptop crashed while I was updating.)

Apparently the Core Hound family skill is Lava Breath. I thought BRK was kidding. (What is it with all the * Breath skills?) Oh, and they eat meat.

Lava Breath (Rank 5): Your pet breaths a double gout of molten lava at the target for 47 to 63 Fire damage and reduces the target’s casting speed by 50% for 10 sec. (25 Focus, Instant, 30 yd range, 10 sec cooldown)

[edit #2] Information is starting to come in:

  • Xardion tells us that the Spawn of Uvuros can be tamed.
  • The Kurken can be tamed and there is already a line for him in place. (Thanks to Lyonheart for the screenshot above.)
  • Hounds of Culuthas are, as expected, still demons.
  • Oddly, both Wrath Hounds and Lesser Wrath Hounds are also still demons (and cannot be tamed).
  • Uvuros can be tamed (although not by me!)

I’d really appreciate info or screenshots from anyone who can get to the Core Hounds in Molten Core. Thanks!

[edit #3] The Core Hound family is up on Petopia. Note that I don’t yet have any actual data on whether the red core hounds can be tamed or not, so they are listed as untameable only until someone corrects me. [Update: I modified my database so I can list them with an unknown state. That makes it a lot easier for people to tell what I don't have data on yet.]

And BRK already has a Core Hound movie up.

  1. OH.. MY.. GOD..
    *Speechless*
..Hydras.. I want hydras. Blizzard, now. If we can get Corehouds, I want a freaking hydra.
    MAKE IT HAPPEN D<

  2. You know, I thought 4 stable slots was going to be more than enough for us hunters … but I was wrong, I so very, very, wrong :-)

  3. Looking at that picture it looks like Photoshop work is a foot!
Look closely at the edges of the collar spikes it looks grainy to me,I could be wrong I HOPE im wrong cause if this creature is tamable when all is said and done…..ITS GOING TO BE MINE SOMEDAY!

  4. Just to add-
He has the sound for moving like a devilsaur (thump, thump!)
Also, it makes the screen shudder slightly (even after being tamed!)

Whether he will keep that attribute in final, I don’t know.

  5. @Featherkitty: No, horde won’t have a hard time at all. keep in mind this is an exotic pet. Meaning you’ll need the 51 point talent. In other words, by the time you character is leveled high enough for the talent at it’s earliest, NOTHING in Azuremyst will even touch you XD

  6. I’ll reiterate again that The Beast (http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?npc=10430), Omen (http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?npc=15467), and Magmadar (http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?npc=11982) are ALL level ?? Boss. Unless you, as a hunter, can somehow become a ?? Boss level’d character, there is absolutely no way for those to be tameable.

For some reason, wowhead lists them as tamable. So I went to wowwiki to read up on Skull type mobs. From what I’ve read there, they are considered 3 levels above the player, not that they actually are 3 levels above. So the only true way to find out is for one of the beta testers to treck through UBRS and try it themselves instead of just making speculations about it being tamable or not.

  7. Horde can get Kurken as far as I know but of course, it being an exotic pet you’ll have to be level 60 to even apply and the NPCs in the area won’t be able to put up any kind of fight to stop you.

  8. I’ve also noticed that sporadically the tamed Kurken keeps turning to look at you for a split second if you just stand around somewhere.

Maybe it’s aggroing then remembering it’s now your pet! ^.^

My Ancient Core Hound does the same. :)

  11. I know a dear hunter friend of mine who is going to squeal in joy when I tell her about this.

Looks like I finally found a replacement for my temporary kitty…and BM spec is shaping up to be completely freakin’ awesome. I’d been debating going BM spec in the expansion and now it’s a clear choice. Just for the gorgeous Kurken, I’m so there X3

All of my pets are doing this, from my cat to my devilsaur. I’ve reported it as a bug. :P
